What did Jesus mean when He said ″I AM″?

When Jesus spoke the statement ″I AM,″ He revealed detailed information about His own identity and character to the disciples.These revelations made it clear to everyone that Jesus was claiming to be much more than a rabbi or prophet; He was claiming to be the Messiah, who was God manifested in the form of a human being.In the Gospel of John, Jesus refers to himself seven times using the phrase ″I am.″ This list includes the following items: In the words of Jesus, ″I am the bread of life; whomever comes to me will not hunger″ (John 6:35).″I am the brightest light in the universe.Anyone who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will instead have the light of life shining in their hearts ″ (John 8:12).

″I am the entrance.Anyone who comes through me will be saved, and he will be able to walk in and out and find pasture ″ (John 10:9).″I am the good shepherd, and I am here to help you.The excellent shepherd is willing to lay down his life for his flock ″ (John 10:11).″I am the resurrected one and the living one, says Jesus.Whoever believes in me will live even if he dies, because I am the living God ″ (John 11:25).

″I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one else can give them these things.No one else can bring you to the Father but through me ″ (John 14:6).I am the actual vine, and my Father is the one who tends the vine (John 15:1).We come to know Jesus as One who satisfies (the bread of life), One who provides life (the light), One who offers redemption (the gate), One who dies for us (the good shepherd), the resurrection and the life, the way, the truth, and the life, and the true (authentic, legitimate) vine (John 15:5).Thus, Jesus fulfills the Old Testament’s predictions regarding the Messiah, predicts His resurrection, and portrays Himself as the one and only means of redemption available to mankind.

• The Gospel of John has one more ″I am″ passage that provides a clearer picture of Christ’s true identity.
• During the course of John 8:58, Christ responds to the religious authorities by saying: ″Truly, truly, I declare to you that before Abraham was born, I was born.″ God revealed His name to Moses as ″I AM″ in Exodus 3:14, and this was an obvious allusion to that passage.
• The religious authorities wanted to assassinate Jesus because He claimed to be God, and this was the basis for their desire.
• Some doubters now say that Jesus never claimed to be God in the Bible, which they believe is incorrect.
• They propagate the claim that Jesus was elevated to the status of God by a church council hundreds of years later in ways that are not supported by Scripture or historical evidence.

7 Times Jesus said ″I Am″

A crucial statement said by Jesus is repeated seven times throughout the Gospel of John, making it the most essential phrase in the whole book.Jesus says the words ″I am″ over and over again.His character is shown in its entirety through this repetition.The Source of All Life And Jesus responded to them by saying, ″I am the source of all nourishment.He who comes to Me will never go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never thirst, because I am the bread of life.″ -Matthew 6:35 After spending a peaceful night alone in the wilderness, Jesus spoke these words.

He escaped to this desert after performing a miracle by feeding 5,000 men (as well as a large number of women and children) with only five loaves of bread and two fish.In spite of this miracle and these words, the people were still looking for a sign that they could put their faith in Jesus, according to some accounts.After all, they reasoned, their forefathers had manna in their possession.Jesus reassured them that, despite the fact that their forefathers had been fed manna, they were no longer alive.He gave the type of Bread that would ensure that people who consumed it would never die.Jesus, in his role as the Bread of Life, extends to everyone of us the gift of everlasting life.

″Light of the World″ is a euphemism for ″Light of the World.″ Then Jesus spoke to them once more, this time saying, ″I am the brightest light in the universe.He who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life shining in his heart and on his face.″ -John 8:12 (KJV) These comments were spoken by Jesus to a gathering of people who had just seen an astonishing event.A woman who had been caught in adultery was brought before Jesus while he was teaching in the temple.During an effort by the accusers to deceive Jesus by asking if He believed the lady should be stoned, Jesus remained silent and scribbled in the sand.The accusers vanished, and the humiliated lady was let free with a promise of forgiveness and an advice to stay away from the darkness in the future.

• Then, turning to face the remaining members of the audience, Jesus informs them that He is the Light of the world.
• When it comes to choosing between sin and a life in His presence, Jesus, as the Light of the World, gives us two options: sin or a life in His presence.

Jesus is that Door, and He is the only one who can lead a person to redemption.Shepherd, the Lord is with you.″I am the good shepherd, and I am here to help you.The good shepherd is willing to lay down His life for the flock.″ -John 10:11 (KJV) Jesus is the Door, but he is also much more than that.

He is the Shepherd; he is the One whose voice the sheep recognize and recognize as theirs.The Shepherd will go to any length to defend and rescue his flock of sheep.Jesus, in his role as the Good Shepherd, gave his life in order to save everyone of us.The Resurrection and the Gift of Life Jesus addressed her by saying, ″I am the resurrected one and the living one, says Jesus.He who believes in Me will live, even if he dies as a result of his faith.And whomever lives and believes in Me will never perish from the earth.

Do you believe what I’m saying?″ -John 11:25, 26 (NIV).Mary and Martha, two of Jesus’ closest companions, are upset.It is too late for Jesus to save their brother Lazarus, who has passed away.After hearing Him declare, ″Your brother will rise again,″ the heartbroken Martha answers with faith, stating that he will rise in the last days.Jesus, on the other hand, has other, more urgent intentions for Lazarus’s recovery.

In the end days, Jesus, the Resurrection and the Life, will resurrect those who trust in Him, just as He raised Lazarus from the dead.The Way, the Truth, and the Life are all the same thing.Jesus responded to him by saying, ″I am the way, the truth, and the life.

No one else can do these things for you.No one else can bring you to the Father but through Me.″ -John 14:6 (KJV) Thomas and the rest of Jesus’ followers were unable to grasp His departure from their midst.He warned them several times, but they refused to listen or heed his warnings.They were struggling with this when Jesus assisted them in seeing the Father and understanding that they were one with him.Jesus, in his role as the Way, the Truth, and the Life, is God, and he is the only one who can save us.The Vine is a plant that grows on vines.

• ″I’m the vine, and you’re the branches on the tree.
• Because you can’t accomplish anything without Me, the one who abides in Me, and I in him, yields a great deal of fruit.″ -John 15:5 (KJV) As Jesus spoke, the vines hung heavy with matured fruit throughout the region, signaling the beginning of the harvest season.
• His audience grasped the significance of the vine as well as the dependence the branches had on the source of nutrients and water that he was describing.
• Our life is derived from Jesus, who, as the Vine, is the source of all life—both today and forever.

What did Jesus mean when He said, “I am the Light of the World” (John 8:12)?

We light a candle and place it in a dark room to alleviate the gloom.Additionally, the Light of Jesus Christ must be brought into the darkness of sin that engulfs the souls and lives of people who do not believe and follow in His footsteps.That is the prerequisite for possessing this Light—that we must follow Him in all things.Unless we follow Him, we will not have access to this light, this truth, and this eternal life that He offers.Physical light is required for the continuation of physical life.

• If there was no longer any sunshine, the earth’s climate would very probably alter very quickly.
• There is virtually little plant life on the ground in a forest full of trees with extremely thick canopies of leaves far above, with the exception of moss and lichen, which require minimal sunshine.
• Plants will never move away from the light; in fact, they are considered to be positively phototropic, meaning that they are driven to the light by the light.
• In the same manner, spiritual light is required for spiritual life, and this may serve as a helpful litmus test for our spiritual maturity and position in Christ.
• The believer will always have a preference for spiritual things; he will always have a preference for fellowship, prayer, the Word of God, and other such things.

As John 1:5 and 3:19–20 point us, the unbeliever constantly acts the polar opposite because light reveals his wickedness, and he despises the light.Indeed, no one can enter the genuine spiritual light of Jesus Christ unless he is empowered to do so by the Holy Spirit (John 6:37).Two promises in John 8:12 are conditional on the believer’s obedience to Jesus.

First and foremost, His disciples will never walk in the dark, which is a reference to the certainty of salvation that we have as Christians.Those who are true followers of the Light will never follow in sin’s footsteps or continue to sin continuously (see 1 John 1:5–7; 2 Corinthians 6:14–15).Rather, we repent of our sins in order to remain in close proximity to the Light of the world, Jesus Christ.Second, we have promised to radiate the Light of Life to others around us.

In the same way that He came to be the Light of the world, He commanded us to be ″lights″ as well.As described in Matthew 5:14–16, believers are referred to as ″the light of the world.″ Believers are called to reflect Christ’s Light in order for others to perceive it in us in the same way that the moon does not have its own light, but rather reflects the light of the sun.The good actions we accomplish in faith and by the power of the Holy Spirit make the Light visible to others around us.We are the Light to others.Here, the emphasis is on maintaining an unmistakable and credible witness in the world, one that demonstrates our commitment to being faithful, God-honoring, dependable, sincere, earnest, and honest in everything we do.Aside from that, we should constantly be prepared to give an account of the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15), for the gospel Light that we have is not to be hidden, but should be made plain for all to see and benefit from, in order for others to be drawn out of darkness and into the Light as well.

What did Jesus mean when He said ‘I AM’?

Answer to the question According to Jesus’ response to the Pharisees’ enquiry about his identity, ″Who do you think you are?″ he responded, ″’Your father Abraham delighted at the prospect of seeing my day; he saw it and rejoiced.″ His Jewish contemporaries remarked: ‘You are not yet fifty years old, and yet you have seen Abraham!’ ‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus responded, ‘I am the one who existed before Abraham was born!’ Immediately after that, they began gathering stones to stone him; however, Jesus managed to escape away from the temple grounds″ (See also John 8:56–59.) According to the Jewish community’s violent response to Jesus’ ″I AM″ declaration, they clearly understood what He was declaring: that He was the eternal God manifested in human form.Jesus was equating Himself with the title ″I AM″ that God gave Himself in Exodus 3:14, which means ″I am that I am.″ Jesus might have added, ″Before Abraham was,″ if He had simply wished to assert that He existed before Abraham’s time.The Greek words for ″was″ in the case of Abraham and ″am″ in the case of Jesus are diametrically opposed to one another in meaning.The Spirit’s use of language makes it plain that Abraham was ″brought into existence,″ but Jesus has existed from the beginning of time (see John 1:1).Because they picked up stones to murder Him for declaring Himself to be on an equal footing with God, there is no doubt that the Jews grasped what He was trying to express (John 5:18).

The punishment for blasphemy under the Mosaic Law was death if a remark like this was not truthful (Leviticus 24:11–14), and the punishment stipulated by the Torah was death.However, Jesus did not commit blasphemy since He was and continues to be God, the second Person of the Godhead, and is thus equal to the Father in every aspect.Jesus used the words ″I AM″ seven times in seven different assertions about Himself.The I AM is combined with magnificent analogies to describe His rescuing connection with the world in all seven.He is the source of all seven.All of these characters appear in the book of John.

Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life”

″I am the resurrection and the life,″ Jesus declares.Even though they die, the one who believes in me will continue to live; and the one who lives by believing in me will never die.″Do you believe what I’m saying?″ (See also John 11:25–26.) These words were spoken by Jesus to a lady called Martha following the death of her brother Lazarus, who happened to be one of Jesus’ closest companions.His assurance that ″your brother shall rise again″ was intended to console Martha during her time of loss (11:23).The resurrection of the dead at the end of time was what Martha felt Jesus was alluding to, and she said, ″I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day″ (v.

24).Jesus, on the other hand, had something more urgent in mind.Similarly, Martha regarded the future resurrection as something far away and incomprehensible.She, on the other hand, was entirely blind to the reality that the genuine source of life and resurrection was standing there in front of her the entire time.″I am the resurrection and the life,″ Jesus declares with confidence!After graduating from seminary, I was invited to speak at the burial of Frank Nelson, who happened to be the father of a great friend of mine.

I accepted the invitation and spoke at the funeral.I had never given a funeral speech before, so I chose this chapter from John’s gospel to share my thoughts.During the course of preparing my talk, I learned that Jesus is actually making two key assertions, albeit they are intimately tied to one another….all else that makes us who we are, whether we call it our spirit, soul, or personality, will survive.His initial claim is that ″I am the resurrection,″ which he clarifies by adding that ″the one who believes in me will live, even if they die.″ He then goes on to state that ″the one who believes in me will live, even if they die.″ Many individuals nowadays think that once they die, they will continue to exist as disembodied spirits for the rest of their lives.

• However, such concept originates in ancient Greek culture rather than in the Bible.
• I informed people in attendance at Frank Nelson’s funeral that, despite the fact that he had passed away, he would one day be raised from the grave, and his body and soul would be reunited for all time.
• In contrast to his former body, which was prone to deterioration, sickness, weakness and death, his new body would be impervious to these effects as well as to them.
• The apostle Paul says that ″the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality″ in order to survive (1 Corinthians 15:53).
• Our existing physical bodies are not suitable for eternal life.

Our resurrection bodies, on the other hand, will be immortal and indestructible.According to Jesus, the second of his claims is that he is ″the life,″ which he clarifies by saying, ″Whoever lives by trusting in me will never perish.″ The assurance made by Jesus that people who trust in him will never die must have seemed empty, if not cruel, to those who were present at the burial that day.In spite of the fact that Frank Nelson had professed faith in Jesus, he had died and was laying in a casket directly in front of us.

The assertion made by Jesus, however, was not that those who believe in him will never die physically.Our bodies will, without a doubt, perish and will need to be revived from the dead.instead of this, Jesus was concentrating on the moment of death, the time when we take our last breath and then pass away.I’ve often wondered what it would be like to be in that situation, and to be honest, it’s a little terrifying to think about.

In the words of my father-in-law, who is now gone, ″Everyone wants to get to paradise, but no one wants to die in the process of getting there.″ I completely agree!The second claim made by Jesus is that he is ″the life.″ However, Jesus provides us with a heads-up on what we may expect, and his words are brimming with reassurance and hope.Even while our physical bodies will die at that ultimate moment, everything else that makes us who we are—whether we call it our spirit, soul, or personality—will not perish.Instead, we shall make the journey from this world to the next by passing through a state of transition.And, in a very essential sense, we will never have to face the prospect of death.In the words of a well-known preacher who lived during the Victorian era, ″Someday you will read in the newspapers that D.

L.Moody of East Northfield has passed away.″ You should not believe a word of it!″At that point, I will be more alive than I am at the moment.″ 4 While speaking at Lazarus’ burial, Jesus demonstrated that he was more than just a claim to be ″the resurrection and the life.″ He went to the tomb where his friend’s body had lain for four days and requested that the stone that had been blocking the entrance to the burial cave be taken down.Then Jesus raised his eyes to the heavens and said, ″Father, I thank you that you have heard my prayer.″ I was aware that you were constantly listening, but I stated it for the benefit of the others who were present, so that they would believe that you had sent me.’ The moment he had finished speaking, Jesus said with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out!’ The body of the deceased was brought out, his hands and feet wrapped in strips of linen, and a cloth wrapped around his mouth.He told them, ″Take off the burial garments and let him go,″ according to John 11:41–44.

Jesus is the Great ″I AM″

The Lord of “What Is”

What ″is″ is just what it is.One astute author has observed that it is crazy to try to change what has already happened.What is does not change as a result of our wishes or desires.Praying can influence what will happen in the future, but it has no effect on what is happening right now.The overwhelming presence of significant negative emotions such as guilt, shame, fear, and worry can make it difficult to function normally.

Few people are aware that these emotions entail living in either the past or the future at the same time.However, the gospel is a compelling summons to stay in the present moment, since the great ″I AM″ is in control of all that is and has ever existed.Regardless of how difficult our current circumstances are, they comprise ″what is″…whether we are dealing in a horrible relationship, battling disease, or struggling with an addiction.No matter whether we are correct or incorrect, whether we want to be there or not, the fact remains that we are simply present.

Our Journey

A journey is frequently used to describe the Christian life.Starting at the beginning or continuing from the point where we left off the previous night, the only place we can begin a journey is from where we are currently standing.Being lost means that we have no idea where we are.Starting a journey without knowing where we are going will result in us becoming even more disoriented than we were before starting the journey.Guilt and shame are a result of our past experiences.

They are a result of things we have done or failed to do, as well as things that have been done to or against us.The source of fear and anxiety is the unknown.We imagine a negative outcome in the future and then act as if that negative outcome is already a reality in the present.When we begin in the past or in the future, we are beginning in the incorrect location of the universe.

God’s Rest

″I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation,″ says the apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 6:2.We never experience anything, including salvation, unless we are in the present moment, in the present moment.Even while we may recall events from the past and predict events in the future, we can only truly experience things in the present.Remember how you felt the first time you saw a photo of a malnourished child?Do you remember what you thought?

Guilty?Are you feeling guilty for not having done enough?Are you afraid and anxious that responding will sap all of your energy and resources?We are paralyzed by feelings of guilt, shame, fear, and anxiety.We will never be able to respond to life in a meaningful way until we can move over them.Everything who are weary and burdened should come to Jesus, the great ″I AM″ and the Lord of all that is, who said, ″Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.″ (Matthew 11:28; Luke 11:28).

This rest is for the time being, and it is from here that we will begin.

″It’s all about their Father’s business,″ they say.The Ensign, August 2008, pp.66–68 At the time of his journey to Jerusalem with his parents, Jesus was 12 years old.Although Joseph and Mary were on their way back to Nazareth, they saw that Jesus was not ″with his relatives and acquaintance.″ Upon their return to Jerusalem, they saw Jesus in the temple ″seated in the middle of the physicians, and they were listening to what he had to say and asking him questions,″ according to the Joseph Smith Translation of Luke 2:44–46.When asked about His absence, Jesus said, ″Did you not realize that I had to attend to my Father’s business?″ He had been completely dedicated to the work of His Father.

We learn that upon His return to Nazareth, He ″grew in wisdom and stature, as well as in favor with God and man″ (Luke 2:49, 52).Many of our Aaronic Priesthood young men today are also deeply involved in their ″Father’s business,″ as they say.They are gaining favor with the Lord as a result of their study of the scriptures, their observance of the commandments, and their preparation to be worthy of the temple and of missionary service.The Book of Mormon tells us of other young men who were blessed by the Lord because of their faith and adherence to his commands (see Alma 56:19).Helaman’s 2,000 stripling warriors were on display here.It was true that they were all young men, and they were extremely brave in terms of courage, as well as in terms of strength and activity; but behold, this was not all—they were men who were faithful at all times in whatever it was that they were entrusted.

Prayer is the means by which we communicate with God. It is also the method by which He communicates with us at times. He has given us the order to pray. The information that follows can assist you in learning how to pray.

Prayer Has Four Simple Steps

A prayer may be broken down into four easy steps. They are clearly expressed in the Lord’s prayer, which can be found in Matthew 6:9-13:

1. Greetings from Heavenly Father
3. God’s blessings are to be acknowledged.
4. Inquire of Him for benefits
6. In the name of Jesus Christ, I close this document.

Step 1: Address Heavenly Father

Step 3: Ask Heavenly Father

Praying in a Group

• When praying in front of a group of people, only the person who is saying the prayer is allowed to talk.
