Being charitable on the Sabbath is thus permissible.″ ″On the Sabbath, it is permissible to do good and assist an animal or a person.
According to Luke 6:9, ″Jesus answered to them, ″I’ll ask you one question: Is it permissible on the Sabbath to do good or evil, to save lives or to destroy lives?″″ Jesus is implying that we can do good on the Sabbath and even save a life while we are fasting.

We may then pay a visit to someone who is ill and make a supper for them as a result.You are permitted to feed your animals on the Sabbath.Luke 13:14-16 (NASB): ″The ruler of the synagogue reacted angrily, claiming that Jesus had healed people on the Sabbath…Afterwards, the Lord spoke to him and said, ″You’re a hypocrite!Are you not all responsible for removing your animal from its stall and leading it somewhere else to be watered on the Sabbath?″ In the same way, shouldn’t this lady, who is a daughter of Abraham and has been bound by Satan for eighteen years (think about it), be freed from her shackles on the Sabbath?″ Jesus is implying that you are permitted to wash and feed your animals on Saturday and Sunday.Jesus is also implying that the healing that He performed on the Sabbath represents release from the shackles of Satan.

You are permitted to walk on the Sabbath.
5:5-9 (John 5:5-9 NASB): ″Now there was a specific guy present who had been suffering from an ailment for thirty-eight years.
Jesus approached him as he lay there, and knowing that he had been in that state for a long time, He asked him, ″Do you want to be made well?″ He replied affirmatively.
In response, the sick man stated, ″Sir, I have no one who can drop me into the pool when the water is churned up; but, as I am approaching, someone steps down in front of me.″ His response to Jesus was, ″Rise, pick up your bed, and walk.″ And the guy was instantly made well, he took up his bed, and he began to walk.
And that particular day happened to be the Sabbath.″ The bed that Jesus is referring to is not a large wooden bed, but rather something more akin to a bed roll or a sleeping bag.
Carrying light burdens and going for a stroll on the Sabbath are both perfectly acceptable.

That the Bible reports seven miracles on the Sabbath is rather noteworthy.

The number ″seven″ represents completion and fulfillment in all aspects of life.
Each hue of the rainbow has seven colors, and each note in a musical scale has seven notes.
In terms of time, it informs us of the Sabbath and marks the beginning of a seven-day week.
Symbolizing a sort of perfection and completion, the seven Sabbath miracles are performed.

Therefore, the Jews told him who had been cured, ″It is the Sabbath; it is not permissible for you to transport your bed.″ His response was, ″He who restored my health spoke to me, ‘Take up your bed and go for a walk’.″ He was then confronted with the question, ″Who is the Man who told you to get out of bed and walk?″ However, the person who was healed was unaware of who had performed the healing because Jesus had withdrew due to the large number of people present.After that, Jesus tracked him down in the temple and told him, ″See, you have been healed.″ ″Do not sin any longer, lest a worse thing happen to you.″ The guy left and informed the Jews that it was Jesus who had cured him of his ailments.Therefore, because Jesus had done these things while on the Sabbath, the Jews harassed Him and attempted to put Him to death as a result of His actions.″My Father has been working until now, and I have also been working,″ Jesus responded to their questions.

As a result, the Jews became even more determined to assassinate Him since he not only violated the Sabbath, but also claimed that God was his Father, thereby elevating himself to the status of God (John 5:1-18.) Take note at this point that Jesus only healed one person out of the large number of sick individuals who were present (Verse 3.) Take note of the fact that Jesus instructed the man to perform three actions: ″Rise, take up your bed, and walk″ (Vs.8.) The guy was healed by Jesus, and he was able to stand up and walk around like a normal human being.The cured man was instructed to pick up his bedding (bedroll) and not to leave it by the Pool of Bethesda, and he was also instructed to walk back to his residence.What was the destination of the man’s walk?He walked to the Temple, and it’s likely that he went there to express his gratitude to God for curing him after thirty-eight years of infirmity.While the man was travelling, other Jews noticed him carrying his bed and told him, ″It is the Sabbath; it is not permissible for you to carry your bed.″ Mishnah is the term used to refer to the Jewish ″oral law,″ which was eventually written down and is still in use today.

With their ″oral law,″ the Jews had constructed a barrier around the Sabbath, in which they attempted not to violate the prohibition against breaking the Sabbath.
There were two primary reasons for doing so.
Their disobedience to God had resulted in their being taken into captivity by the Babylonians for seventy years because they had profaned God’s Sabbaths and worshipped idols some years before (Ezekiel 20:23-24, Jeremiah 25:11.) Following the Babylonian captivity, the Jews became extremely stringent and forbade the practice of idol worship from that point forward.

On the Sabbath, it was illegal to carry your bed and to go more than a Sabbath’s day’s distance on foot.Jesus cured the lame man on the Sabbath, and He did it in blatant defiance of the Jewish regulations that had been established at the time of his healing.This was done by Jesus in order to broaden our understanding of the Sabbath.In contrast to a set of stringent Pharisaical legal restrictions that would convert the Sabbath into a yoke of servitude, the Sabbath is meant to be joyful and positive, a time to ″do good.″ The Sabbath is a symbol of freedom.The lame man was healed by Jesus, who also granted him independence and liberation from his disability and misery.

Take note of the following in Verse 16: ″As a result, the Jews attacked Jesus and attempted to assassinate Him because He had done these things on the Sabbath,″ the Bible says.The Pharisees, chief priests, and scribes despised Jesus because He was ″doing good,″ and they were right to do so.″As a result, the Jews became even more determined to assassinate Him since he not only violated the Sabbath, but he also claimed that God was His Father, thereby elevating himself to the status of God,″ says verse 18.Jesus did not violate the Sabbath in any way!He obeyed God’s rule and was without sin (Hebrews 4:15), and He observed the Sabbath in the manner in which it should have been observed.

The ″oral law″ of the Jews, complete with all of its prohibitions, was the law that was breached.
The Jewish religious establishment despised Jesus because He claimed that God was His Father, which they considered heresy.
An evil spirit is cast out by Jesus.
″ Then they traveled to Capernaum, where He entered the synagogue and began teaching directly on the Sabbath.

And they were taken aback by His teaching, since He delivered it as if He were in a position of authority rather than as the scribes.
There was now a guy in their congregation who had an unclean spirit, and they had to expel him.
Suddenly he screamed out, ″Let us be alone!″ I’m not sure what we have to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth.
Is it possible that You came to annihilate us?

I am aware of Your identity as the Holy One of God!″ But Jesus reprimanded him, saying, ″Be quiet, and come out of him!″ (Be quiet, and come out of him!) And it was only after the unclean spirit had convulsed him and shouted out in a loud voice that he was expelled from him.Then they were all taken aback, to the point where they began to wonder aloud, ″What is this?″ What exactly is this new doctrine?Because He orders even the unclean spirits with authority, and they submit to His commandments.″ Instantaneously, His fame spread over all of Galilee and the surrounding region (Mark 1:21-28.) What did Jesus accomplish on the seventh day of the week?

He went into the synagogue and began to teach.It is important to Jesus to observe the Sabbath since He is the Lord and Master of it.And He (Jesus) told them, ″The Sabbath was designed for man, not man for the Sabbath.″ ″The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath,″ He replied.As a result, the Son of Man is also known as the Lord of the Sabbath″ (Mark 2:27-28.) It is important to note that the Sabbath was created for all people, not only Jews.Jesus claimed to be the creator of all things (John 1:1-3), and He established the Sabbath and declared it to be sacred (Genesis 2:2-3.) The term ″authority″ is important in this verse.
Testimony, being an expert, having influence and power, being in command, and working for a government agency are all examples of authority.
Jesus embodies each of these characteristics.
God’s Word, according to his witness, is that He is the Word of God (John 1:1-3.) Because Jesus is the creator of the universe, He is an expert in all fields of knowledge.
In this verse, Jesus demonstrated that He possessed authority and control over the filthy wicked demonic spirit that resided within the man.
The wicked spirit was reprimanded by Jesus, who ordered, ″Be silent, and come out of him!″ The evil spirit complied.

As ″King of kings and Lord of lords,″ Jesus will be the leader of the earth’s governmental agency in the future, as prophesied by the Bible (Revelation 17:14.) Take note of the fact that the crowds were taken aback by Jesus’ power in Verse 27.
According to Ephesians 3:9, Jesus has complete dominion over everything, including the earthly elements of wind, water, and storms (Matthew 8:27.) In Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24, Jesus is identified as our healer, and he has dominion over our physical and spiritual well-being, including disease, fever, and evil spirits.
The devil is under the authority of Jesus, who is likewise under his authority.
When Jesus walked into the desert for forty days and was tempted by the devil three times, He rebuked the demon and ordered him to leave Him immediately.
The devil complied and left Him instantly (Matthew 4:1-11.) Peter’s mother-in-law is healed by Jesus.

An Incurable Deformity in a Man’s Hand ″And He (Jesus) entered the synagogue again, and there was a man there who had a withered hand,″ the Bible says.As a result, they were keeping a careful eye on Him to see whether He would cure him on the Sabbath, so that they might blame Him.In response, He instructed the man who had the withered hand to ″take a step forward.″ When they inquired, He said, ″Is it permissible on the Sabbath to do good or evil, to preserve life or to kill?″ They, on the other hand, remained mute.Then, when He had gazed about at them with rage, pained by the hardness of their hearts, He turned to the man and said, ″Stretch out your hand.″ After that, he stretched his hand out, and his hand was returned to its full strength.

Afterwards, the Pharisees walked out and immediately began plotting against Him with the Herodians in order to bring Him to His knees (Mark 3:1-6.) The Pharisees, chief priests, and scribes ″kept a tight eye on Him,″ as the saying goes.They were expecting Jesus to heal this man, and they were eager to bring charges against Him.It is difficult to comprehend their strict fundamental legal prohibition against ″doing good″ on the Sabbath.

The Jews felt a greater affection for their animals than they did for people who were suffering from life-threatening illnesses, afflictions, and infirmities.In Luke 13:15 and Luke 14:5, the Jews would water their animals and help them out of a ditch on the Sabbath, but they despised Jesus for helping humans ″out of a ditch″ by healing them of some sort of ailment.In verse 4, Jesus inquired as to whether it was permissible to perform good or evil on the Sabbath, to save life or to murder.By ″doing good″ to your neighbor, Jesus is demonstrating that the Sabbath is a day to love God as well as to love and serve your fellow human beings.

According to the Jewish religious authorities, religion consisted of performing rituals and following established laws and regulations.
Consider what Jesus said in verse 5, where he stated that their hearts were hard and that he looked at them with wrath because of this.
This was justified authoritarian rage on the part of the authorities.
Jesus didn’t get angry very often, but when He did, He was able to keep it under control (Mark 10:14.) ‘Jesus Heals a Blind Man’ was written in the New Testament.
Jesus happened to see a guy who had been blind since birth as He went by.
Afterwards, His followers came to Him and questioned Him, ″Rabbi, who is to blame, this guy or his parents, for the fact that he was born blind?″ ″Neither this man nor his parents have sinned, but it is necessary that the works of God should be shown in him,″ Jesus said.

I must carry out the works of Him who sent Me while it is still daylight; otherwise, the night will come when no one will be able to work.″ ″As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world,″ Jesus says.When He had finished speaking, He spat on the ground and used the saliva to make clay, which He then used to anoint the blind man’s eyes with.Afterwards, He instructed him to ″go wash in the lake of Siloam″ (which is translated, Sent).So he went and washed his hands, and then came back to see.

The neighbors and others who had previously seen that he was blind exclaimed, ″Isn’t this he who sat and begged?″ as a result.″This is him,″ some have speculated.Others remarked, ″He’s a lot like him.″ ″I am him,″ he asserted.

As a result, they inquired of him, ″How did your eyes get open?″ He responded by saying, ″A Man named Jesus produced clay and anointed my eyes, then told me to go to the lake of Siloam and wash.’″ After that, I went to wash and was blessed with sight.″ Then they turned to him and exclaimed, ″Where has He gone?″ ″I’m not sure,″ he said.They brought him to the Pharisees, despite the fact that he was previously blind.It was now the Sabbath when Jesus sculpted the clay and first opened his eyes.Then the Pharisees came up to him and demanded to know how he had gained his sight.

″He put clay on my eyes, and I washed them, and now I can see,″ he explained to them.
As a result, some of the Pharisees declared, ″This Man is not from God because He does not observe the Sabbath.″ ″How can a guy who is a sinner do such miracles?″ some people wondered.
And there was a schism among them as well (John 9:1-16.) As far as we can tell, this is the only miracle in the gospels in which the individual who is suffering is claimed to have been afflicted from his conception.
When Jesus healed the beggar, it was widely believed that sin was the cause of his illness.
However, take note of what Jesus stated was the true reason for the beggar’s blindness: ″but that the works of God should be displayed in him.″ What was the purpose of Jesus making clay with his saliva?

In order to irritate the Jewish religious authorities, he most likely did it on the Sabbath, knowing that they would believe Him to be working.
He enjoyed getting in their faces and pointing out their flaws and hypocrisy, as well as labeling them hypocrites (Matthew 23.) When we sing ″Stand up for Jesus″ in our hymnal, we are referring to exactly what the cured blind man was doing when he was witnessing for Jesus.
″Jesus Heals a Woman Who Is Paralyzed″ He was now giving a Sabbath sermon in one of the synagogues in the area.
When I looked up, there stood a woman who had been infirm for eighteen years and who was stooped over and unable to lift herself up on her own.
After seeing her, Jesus called her to Him and told her, ″Woman, you have been set free from your infirmity.″ And He laid His hands on her, and she was immediately made straight, and she exalted God as a result.
In response, the governor of the synagogue expressed his displeasure, claiming that Jesus had cured people on the Sabbath.

He then said to the assembled throng, ″There are six days on which men should work; therefore, come to be healed on those days, and not on the Sabbath day.″ ″Hypocrite!″ said the Lord as he was being addressed.Are you not all of you responsible for removing your ox or donkey from the stable and leading it away to water them on the Sabbath?In that case, shouldn’t this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham and has been bound by Satan for eighteen years (think about it), be freed from her shackles on the Sabbath?″ Moreover, when he said these things, all of His opponents were put to shame, and the entire crowd exulted in the splendor of all that He had accomplished (Luke 13:10-17.) Consider the fact that Satan had bound this woman with her affliction for eighteen years, and that it was Jesus who had mercy on her, freed her from Satan’s shackles, and restored her health.

This chapter serves as another another illustration of how Jewish religious officials cherished their animals more than their fellow sons and daughters of Abraham (Vs.16.) Jesus Heals a Man Suffering from Dropsy ″Now it happened that when He walked into the house of one of the Pharisees’ ruling elders to eat bread on the Sabbath, they kept a careful eye on Him.And behold, there was a specific man in front of Him who was suffering from dropsy.

″Is it permissible to heal on the Sabbath?″ Jesus inquired of the lawyers and Pharisees in response.
″Is it permissible to heal on the Sabbath?″ They, on the other hand, remained mute.
And He took him, healed him, and then released him from his bonds.
Then He asked them, ″Which among you, if you had a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a hole, will not promptly take him out on the Sabbath?″ He then went on to explain, And they were unable to provide Him with an explanation about these matters (Luke 14:1-6.) What was the purpose of the Pharisee’s invitation to Jesus for a Sabbath meal?
It is said in verse 1 that this was done so that they may ″watch Him attentively.″ They wished to bring charges against Him.
Their hate for Him was so intense that they intended to destroy Him (Mark 3:1-6), and through false accusations and an unlawful trial, they were able to have Him crucified and die on the cross (Matthew 27:51-53).

(Matthew 27:35.) In conclusion, Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, and as a result, the Sabbath is truly the ″Lord’s Day″ for Christians.
Jesus is teaching us how to observe the Sabbath by performing these seven miracles on the seventh day of the week.
During his healing and ″doing good″ activities on the Sabbath, Jesus highlighted the humanitarian elements of mercy, compassion, and loving-kindness.
When it comes to the Sabbath, Christ demonstrated to us that we are not to be ″hard hearted″ like the Pharisees, as they were.

Why did Jesus heal on the Sabbath?

Jesus was well aware of the Pharisees’ restrictions about the Sabbath, so why did He chose that particular day to cure people?
It is vital to highlight that when Jesus healed on the Sabbath, He was not in violation of God’s rule.

Jesus and the Sabbath – What is the Sabbath

Jesus and the religious elites of his day were at odds over a variety of problems, including religious traditions, mingling with sinners, spiritual authority, and other matters.Jesus’ acts were meticulously scrutinized by these authorities on one particular subject, that of the Sabbath day.In recognition of the fact that the Sabbath was a sacred day set apart (Exodus 20:8 – 11), the Ten Commandments forbade working on it.

In the same way that the Israelites were told to give a portion of their profits to God, they were also instructed to give him a portion of their time.
Breaking the Sabbath was a serious offense, since God’s commandment mandated that people who disobeyed it would be put to death (Exodus 31:14 – 15).

What activities constitute “work?”

In the years after the rebuilding of the temple following the exile (515 BC – AD 70), scribes and rabbis examined the words of Scripture, delving into every detail to find meaning.Within the confines of the Law, what kind of work could be permitted on the Sabbath?For example, according to the Law, no work was allowed to be done on the Sabbath, which meant that burdens were not allowed to be carried on that particular day.

As a result, researchers disagreed over what constituted a ″burden.″ It appears that there were legitimate concerns about people accidentally breaking the Law, which led to the scribes’ meticulous interpretation of the text of the Law.
Their interpretations, on the other hand, became increasingly concerned with exterior conformity to the Law rather than creating an attitude of surrender before the Almighty.
Following their own interpretations became a source of pride, rather than an expression of love for God, as a result of their actions.
It was by Jesus’ day that religious authorities had grown so severe that they accused Jesus’ followers of violating the Sabbath because they picked some grain and ate it as they strolled through a field on the Sabbath (Luke 6:1–2), which they denied.
Healings performed by Jesus on the Sabbath infuriated the religious leaders, who considered healing to be ″work″ and hence outlawed it on the Sabbath (Deuteronomy 5:15).

He exposed the hypocrisy of the rabbis with his remark.″Look, why are they doing what is prohibited on the Sabbath?″ the Pharisees demanded.″Have you never read what David did when he and his comrades were hungry and in need?″ he responded.

Suggested Lesson Development

A youngster should be invited to say the opening prayer. To conclude the week, invite those youngsters who would want to share their experiences of showing love and serving others to share their stories. Encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings.

You may choose to utilize one or more of the following exercises at any point throughout the lesson, or as a review, summary, or challenge at the end.

Examine Doctrine and Covenants 59:9–23 with the children, and have them make a list of some of the things the Lord has required us to do on the Sabbath, as well as the rewards that he has given us for following those commandments.
Ask the youngsters to list various things they have witnessed others participating in on Saturday and Sunday. Determine whether or not the following activities are acceptable for the Sabbath by asking yourself the following questions: Is it assisting me in my efforts to respect Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ? ″We encourage all Latter-day Saints to set this sacred day aside from the activities of the world and consecrate themselves by entering into a spirit of worship, thankfulness, service, and family-centered activities suitable to the Sabbath,″ said the First Presidency. ″ The Ensign published an article in January 1993 stating that ″when Church members strive to make their Sabbath activities congruent with the purpose and Spirit of the Lord, their lives will be filled with pleasure and serenity.″
Provide youngsters with a piece of paper on which they may write the words I will keep the Sabbath day sacred and color it with crayons or markers.

Every Jewish adherent of the Law in the ancient world was well aware of one important fact: you don’t work on Saturday and Sunday.Never.Ever.

There will be no excuses.
Nobody in Israel dared to labor on the Sabbath, which was set apart by God.
And this takes us to the question of why Jesus performed miracles on the Sabbath.
It’s possible that the Pharisees were the only ones who were aware of some subtleties in the Law.
This, however, was not one of them.

This was something that EVERYONE was aware of.But what about the Pharisees?Every Sabbath was a huge day for them to put on a performance.

Every nuance of the Law was well known by them, and they delighted in making sure that everyone was aware of it.They went to law school six days a week for two years.On the seventh day, they would come out for Sabbath observances and demonstrate what a Pharisee looked like to the rest of the world.I’m sure a lot of the other Sabbath keepers were quite impressed with your performance.However, there was one person who was not impressed.

His name was recognized as Jesus of Nazareth, and everyone knew who he was.He was easily identified by his Galilean dialect.The Lordship of Jesus over the Sabbath is unquestionable.What was it about the Pharisees’ amazing display of erudition and pride that didn’t impress him?

The solution is literally as close as your Bible.

How Many Times Did Jesus Heal on the Sabbath?

Only seven miraculous healings are recorded on the Sabbath, despite the fact that Christ performed a large number of miracles (a total of 37 miracles, according to this reckoning) before to his execution.As a matter of fact, the number 7 represents God’s full completion, and its importance can be found on multiple times throughout the Bible, from Genesis to the Book of Revelation.But who was it that Jesus healed on the Sabbath, and how did he do it?

Mark 1:21-22, English Standard Version At the end of verse 24, the devil addresses Jesus by name and proclaims him to be ″the Holy One of God″!
In other words, not only did Jesus declare himself to be God (and you can read more about Jesus’ Blatant Claims to be God here), but demons and humans have also claimed him to be the Son of God.
There were also several miracles to add to the mix.

2. Jesus Heals Peter’s Mother-In-Law

Matthew 8:14-15; Mark 1:29-31; Luke 8:14-15; Luke 4:38-39 (KJV) The Messiah performs a miracle on the Sabbath in which the fever leaves the body of Peter’s mother-in-law, and this miracle is recorded in all three of the synoptic Gospels.All he does is rebuke the fever, and it quickly leaves her.However, word spreads quickly.

The next thing you know, the entire town has converged on their doorstep.
(See 1:33 in Mark.) That day, Jesus cured a large number of people and drove out a large number of devils.
In Mark 1:34, Jesus says that he would not allow the devils to speak since they were aware of his presence.

3. Christ Restores the Withered Hand of a Man

It is found in the following passages: Matthew 12:9-13 Mark 3:1-6 Luke 6:6-11 (KJV) Christ was dissatisfied with the hardness of the Pharisees’ hearts, and he challenged them by asking them if it was permissible to do good on the Sabbath, which they answered in the affirmative. As a consequence, our Lord and Savior healed a man who had lost the use of his hand.

4. Jesus Heals an Invalid Man at Bethesda

John 5:1-17 is where you’ll find it.It was on the Sabbath that this miracle occurred in Jerusalem, which incensed the Jews, who then plotted to assassinate Jesus.When the cured man, who had been an invalid for 38 years, was seen carrying his bed on the Sabbath in full view of the Pharisees, he was stoned to death by them.

The Pharisees were more concerned with upholding their unscriptural Sabbath Laws than they were with seeing a miraculous miracle that demonstrated that they were in the presence of Greatness.

5. Jesus Restores a Blind Man’s Vision

Found in the following passage: John 9:1-12 According to the Gospel of Mark, it appears that this is the first miracle Sabbath healing that Christ has ever done on someone who was born with a specific illness, in this case, blindness.

6. Christ Heals a Crippled Woman

Luke 13:10-17 is where you’ll find it.In this passage, Christ frees a lady from Satan’s hold after she had been afflicted by a crippled spirit for 18 years.On the Sabbath, he brands the synagogue’s rulers hypocrites because they are watering their donkeys and oxen, yet they have the arrogance to be concerned about Jesus’ healing on the Sabbath.

″You hypocrites!″ says the author.
Every one of you does not take his or her ox or donkey out of the manger on the Sabbath and lead it somewhere else to water it?″ Luke 13:15 (New International Version)

7. Christ Heals a Man with a Dropsy

Luke 14:1-6 is where you’ll find it.The seventh miracle performed by Jesus on the Sabbath is recorded in Luke 14:1-6, in which he heals a man suffering from dropsy (a form of edema).Christ also made a point of putting the Pharisees on the defensive by questioning them whether or not they would assist their kid if he fell into a well on a Saturday.

This takes us to the reason why he healed on the Sabbath day in question.

Why Did Jesus Heal on the Sabbath?

One of the key reasons that Jesus healed on the Sabbath was to expose the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, and this was clearly one of the primary reasons.
They accused him of violating the Sabbath legislation while carrying out personal tasks on this particular day.
People often inquire as to who was responsible for shifting the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday.
Is there a reason we go to church on Sunday rather than Saturday?

Is it possible that the Catholic Church changed the Sabbath?
What is the significance of Jesus being referred to be the Son of David?
When the religious leaders were dissatisfied with Jesus’ casting out of a debilitating spirit from a woman, he used this example to expose their hypocrisy: The Pharisees clearly had a mistaken understanding of the importance of keeping the Sabbath holy, since they had already injected their own human regulations and restrictions into the practice of Sabbath observance by the time Jesus arrived.

Therefore, Christ challenged them with the following words: ″Is it permissible on the Sabbath to do good or damage, is it lawful on the Sabbath to preserve life or is it lawful to kill?″ ESV translation of Mark 3:4.
What’s more, guess what?
They were all deafeningly quiet.
Be mindful of the fact that Jesus was only violating the Pharisees’ erroneous interpretation of the law when he healed on the Sabbath, and not the laws of God.

It was the man-made traditions and modifications to the Ten Commandments that distinguished Christ’s healing as a type of labor in comparison to the original Ten Commandments granted by God (See Exodus 20).
It was for this reason that the religious authorities of the day despised Christ, since he was shining a light on their perverted interpretation of God’s law.
That’s why Christ said in Matthew 5:17, ″Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to complete them.″ ″Do not suppose that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.″ Matthew 5:17 (New International Version) In a sense, Jesus’ healing of the sick, the oppressed spiritually, and the diseased allowed them to enjoy a true Sabbath rest in the same way that he cured the sick, oppressed spiritually, and the diseased physically.

Christ makes it clear to everyone.
The healing of people on the Sabbath not only highlighted the hypocrisy of his opponents, but it also demonstrated that he is God manifested in the flesh, fulfilling prophecy at the same time that his opponents’ hate for him ultimately led to his death.
He was traveling through the grainfields one Sabbath, and as they made their way through the fields, his followers began to pluck heads of grain from the ground.
24 And the Pharisees were yelling at him, ″Look, why are they doing things that are not permitted on the Sabbath?″ they said.
26 ″Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, both for himself and for those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, during the time of Abiathar, the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for anyone other than priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?″ he asked.

And he told them, ″The Sabbath was created for man, not man for the Sabbath.28 As a result, the Son of Man is master even of the Sabbath.″ From Mark 2:23 to Mark 2:28

Who Did Jesus Heal on the Sabbath?

According to the Bible, Jesus cured a total of seven people on the Sabbath (5 men and 2 women), much to the displeasure of the Pharisees and their followers. Here is a list of each individual who was cured, as well as where and how they were healed, along with the accompanying verses from the Holy Scriptures:

1. A Man with an Unclean Spirit

Capernaum’s synagogue was the setting for this story.

Scripture references: Matthew 8:14-15; Mark 1:29-31 Luke 4:38-39 (KJV) 14 And when Jesus entered Peter’s home, he discovered his mother-in-law, who was ill with a fever and lying in bed.
She rose and proceeded to serve him as soon as he touched her hand, and the fever left her.
Matthew 8:14-15, English Standard Version This is the first of the two women who were healed by Jesus, and in this instance, all that was required of him to restore her health was to rebuke the fever she had been suffering from at the time of his healing.

3. A Man with a Withered Hand

Where: A synagogue, most likely in Capernaum, according to the Bible Scriptures: Mt. 12:9-13; Mark 3:1-6 Luke 6:6-11 (KJV) The fact that Christ can miraculously cure anybody, wherever, at any time, is another another amazing proof of his power to demonstrate his divinity. In order to restore the man’s hand, Jesus only had to say ″Stretch out your hand,″ and he was instantly restored.

4. A Lame Man

In Jerusalem, in a pool known as Bethesda, according to the Bible (John 5:1-18).
The ill man was merely ordered to ″get up, pick up your bed, and walk″ in this instance by Jesus.
18 This was one of the reasons why the Jews were attempting to assassinate him even more, since not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was also addressing God as his own Father, thereby elevating himself to the status of God.

However, the fact that the guy was carrying his bed on the Sabbath was all that the Pharisees cared about.

5. A Woman with a Disabling Spirit

Where: An undisclosed synagogue in a remote place Text from the Bible: Luke 13:10-17 There was this woman who had a hunchback for 18 years as a result of a ghost that was crippling her. And Christ just lay his hands on her, and the lady was instantly straightened upright, and she exalted God as a result of his touch.

6. A Man with Dropsy

Specifically, the following Bible passages: Luke 14:1-6 Jesus used the healing of this man suffering from dropsy as an illustration of how hypocritical the Pharisees were.
In case you’re wondering, dropsy is a kind of edema that is defined by the accumulation of watery fluid in the tissues or cavities of the body, as opposed to swelling.
The Pharisees were keeping a close eye on him on one particular Sabbath, when he went to eat at the home of a Pharisee leader.
2 And behold, there was a man in front of him who was suffering from dropsy.

Moreover, in response to the lawyers and Pharisees, Jesus said, ″Is it permissible to heal on the Sabbath, or is it not?″ 4 However, they remained deafeningly silent.
Then he whisked him away, cured him, and sent him on his way to his destination.
And he told them, ″Which among you, if you have a kid or an animal who has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not instantly bring him out?″ he asked.

6 And they were unable to respond to these things.

7. A Man Blind Since Birth

The location is Jerusalem, and the Bible reading is John 9:1-7.
This particular incident is particularly noteworthy since Christ healed a man who had been born blind during a time when people believed that sin was the root cause of health problems.
However, because this man was born in this manner, the disciples inquired of the Lord as to whether it was the guy or his parents who had sinned.
It was a striking response from Jesus: ″It was not because this guy sinned, nor did his parents sin, but so that the works of God would be exhibited in him.″ This was also the only time that Jesus performed a miracle healing on someone who had been born with a sickness.

What Did Jesus Say About Healing on the Sabbath?

Here are some of the greatest instances of what Jesus had to say to the Pharisees and Jews who were upset about him healing on the Sabbath: In Matthew 12:10, the Pharisees question Jesus about whether or not it is permissible to heal on the Sabbath.
The following two verses include Jesus’ response, which reads as follows: ″Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a hole on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and raise it out?″ he asked them.
″Which one of you who has a sheep will not grab hold of it and hoist it out?″ he asked.

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath: Summary

So, did Jesus perform miracles on the Sabbath day? He did, in fact. Is it possible that Jesus violated God’s Sabbath law? No, he didn’t do it. It was only because of the faulty interpretation of the law by the Pharisees, which was full of man-made traditions and norms, that Jesus was imprisoned.
