Joseph Scriven was born in the Irish capital of Dublin in 1819. He grew up in Dublin and went on to study at Trinity College, which is located there. When he was a young guy, he was the victim of tragedy. On the night before their wedding in 1845, he had become engaged to a lovely young woman, but she drowned in an accident the night before their wedding. Scriven left his home in England and traveled to Ontario, Canada, where he found solace.
