Despite the fact that these representations are aesthetically pleasing, they are not biblically accurate. Most scholars and historians agree that Mary was between the ages of 12 and 16 years old when she gave birth to Jesus, despite the fact that many contemporary images of her bearing Jesus portray her as an attractive young lady in her early 20s. Although this appears to be a very young age to us now, under Jewish norms at the time, it was normal for ladies to get betrothed (engaged) to a man at a very young age, often as young as 12. While the images of Mary cradling the newborn Jesus that we see now frequently depict her as being in her early twenties, it appears that she was substantially younger than this at the time. This idea is founded only on the fact that Jewish ladies (and boys) were frequently married at a young age throughout biblical times. Even if the exact age varied from person to person, it was often in the very early adolescent years (and even at 12).

However, I do not believe that there is anything in our knowledge, or at least nothing that I am aware of in holy tradition, that would support this as being factual; however, this is not something that I have looked into in depth.
