9 Teaching Methods of Jesus

Jesus was regarded as the ultimate teacher.Thousands would congregate to listen intently to his every word.A large number of people went long distances only to hear him speak.

The principles he imparted spread like wildfire and had a profound impact on the globe.In our preaching and teaching, if there is anyone we should look up to as pastors, it is Jesus!Right?So, what method did Jesus use to teach?Here are nine strategies that Jesus utilized and that we might put into practice:

Jesus Spoke by His Authority

Other professors cited credible teachers or teachings in order to draw authority from these sources.″You have heard this, but I tell you…″ Jesus, on the other hand, asserted emphatically.(Matthew 5:22, 28, 32, 34, 39, 44; Mark 10:22, 28).

They were astonished because, in contrast to previous professors, He taught as if he were in a position of power (Mark 1:22, Matthew 7:28-29).Because he is the Word, Jesus is the only one who could do this (John 1).He has been given complete sovereignty over both Heaven and Earth (Matthew 28:18).Application: We are unable to preach on our own authority, but that is OK with us.Jesus offers us his as a gift.

Preach the Word of God.Christ is the source of all of our power and authority.

Jesus Told Stories

As you are aware, Jesus spoke in parables on a number of occasions.He drew spiritual truths from the midst of ordinary existence.It wasn’t only that these anecdotes made his instruction more remembered, but they also made a far more meaningful connection with the audience.

Let us consider the story of the Prodigal Son.″God loves you so much that He will welcome you back no matter how wicked your life has been,″ Jesus may have said in his teaching.Instead, Jesus narrates the tale of a young boy who had abandoned his family and spent his inheritance recklessly before returning home to plead for forgiveness, only to be greeted with open arms by his father, who had been waiting for him on a daily basis.Which is the most potent of the two?Tell stories as an example of application.

There are a lot of them.Use the experiences of ordinary life to impart significant spiritual truths.

Jesus Shocked People

Jesus employed exaggeration and hyperbole frequently.For the sake of grabbing your attention, he utilized outlandish instances, exaggerations, and alarming assertions.Although none of these comments were meant to be taken literally, they were effective in conveying the message.

Jesus did not actually mean that we should pluck out our eyes and amputate our hands since they were responsible for our sin (Matthew 5:29-30), because then all Christians would be blind amputees.He also didn’t want to imply that the folks with whom he was conversing had logs lodged in their eyes (Matthew 7:3-5).He was trying to make a point.Jesus said things that surprised people, and he exaggerated the facts in order to make his point more effectively.Application: Surprise and wow people.

Exaggerate just a tiny bit.Spout outlandish phrases that aren’t meant to be taken literally, but that will get people’s attention and deliver the idea clearly.

Jesus Crafted Memorable Sayings

Jesus used lyrical language.He utilized creative phrases and wordplay to get his point through.This isn’t always obvious in English translations, though.

In the original language, Jesus, on the other hand, made it much simpler for his audience to recall what he had to say.Consider the words of Jesus, who famously declared, ″Judge not, and you shall not be judged; condemn not, and you shall not be condemned; forgive, and you shall get forgiveness,″ as well as ″give, and it shall be given to you.″ (Luke 6:37-38a, English Standard Version).The Golden Rule is yet another excellent example (Luke 6:31).Make sticky remarks as a part of your presentation.In the words of Andy Stanley, ″Memorable is transportable.″ You may be confident that your followers will remember the lesson and bring it with them wherever they go.

Jesus Asked Questions

To guide his listeners to conclusions rather than just telling them the solution, Jesus asked a number of probing questions throughout the sermon.Examples include Matthew 16:26 and 22:20-21, as well as this excellent resource: Jesus Asked a Total of 173 Questions.Questioning is an extremely effective teaching strategy, especially when educating to antagonistic individuals (like unbelievers).

Critical thinking is stimulated by questions.Good questions compel the audience to demand that the questions be answered.Application: Be persistent in your inquiries.It is important not to underestimate the impact of a well-phrased query.

Jesus Used Visual Illustrations

Jesus frequently utilized object teachings to impart real truth to his audience, and he did it frequently.He bathed the disciples’ feet in order to educate them about servant leadership (John 13:3–17).Matthew 18:1–4 describes how he summoned a tiny kid to him to talk about childlike faith.

After witnessing a widow drop two tiny pennies into the temple offering (Mark 12:41–44), he emphasized the virtue of selflessness in giving.There is a high likelihood that he was standing near a field when he recounted the parable of the sower at the time.Truth that is visually expressed is significantly more powerful than truth that is merely uttered.Application: Objects and visual examples should be used.Schedule time for you to be creative and think of innovative methods to deliver your idea graphically.

Jesus Used Repetition

In order for his audience to learn and retain his teachings, Jesus used regular repetition to assist them do so.He repeated the same key ideas over and over again in his classes.If we look at Mark 8:31, 9:31, and 10:33–34, we see that Jesus spoke about his death and resurrection several times, yet His Disciples still didn’t understand what he was talking about.

Sometimes individuals need to hear something a number of times before they really get it.Furthermore, lessons that are repeated are more likely to be remembered.Application: Repeat, repeat, and repeat.The repetition of a concept increases its significance and helps it stick in the mind.What is said over and over again is remembered.

Find the most important message in your message and repeat it over and over.

Jesus Created Experiences

His lessons weren’t enough, and people needed to do more than just listen.Jesus gave them instructions and called on them to follow through with what he stated.For example, he did not only instruct the disciples on what to do; he then sent them out to carry out his instructions and report back when they were finished (Luke 9:1–6, 10).

The teachings of Jesus compelled people to take action.However, not everyone could deal with it, such as the wealthy young ruler (Luke 18:18-23).Our life experiences put our faith to the test and educate us more than any sermon could ever teach us.It is not sufficient to merely instruct them on what to accomplish.Make it possible for them to do so by providing opportunities.

Create opportunities to put the learning into practice.″How might I assist my listeners in truly living this out?″ you might wonder.

Jesus Practiced What He Preached

When it comes to preachers obeying their own teachings, there is no greater example than Jesus.Jesus did not only preach about prayer; he also took time out to pray on a regular basis (Luke 5:16).Jesus didn’t simply preach about loving sinners; he also invited them to supper (Matthew 9:10-12).

Jesus demonstrated what he preached.He didn’t simply speak the talk; he lived the walk, even if it meant dying on a cross for the sake of others.Application: Put into action what you teach.The most important lessons we teach come from our lives, not from what we say.

What are the basics of Jesus’ teaching?

Answer to the question Even a young kid can grasp the fundamentals of Jesus’ teaching because they are profound but simple; they are spiritual but still applicable to everyday life.For the most part, Jesus preached that He was the fulfillment of messianic prophecy, that God needs more than exterior conformity to rules, that redemption comes to those who believe in Christ, and that punishment is coming to those who do not believe and do not repent.Jesus Christ taught that everyone is in need of redemption and that a person’s station in life has no influence on his or her worth in God’s eyes; Christ came to save people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Anyone’s previous transgressions had no bearing on his capacity to accept forgiveness, and Jesus taught His disciples to forgive others in the same manner (Matthew 18:21–35; Luke 7:47).Luke 19:7 tells the story of Zacchaeus, a wealthy tax collector who was unquestionably detested by everyone in his city.Despite this, Jesus spent time with him.″Today, salvation has come to this house,″ Jesus declared emphatically (Luke 19:9).What is the explanation behind this?

By repenting of his past crimes and committing himself to a life of charity, Zacchaeus indicated that he had faith in Jesus (Luke 19:8).″For the Son of Man has come to seek and to rescue the lost,″ Jesus said to the onlookers who were skeptical of him (Luke 19:10).He didn’t care who that ″lost″ person was, whether he was rich or poor, male or female, a beggar or a king; he just wanted to find him.Everyone must be reborn at some point in their lives (John 3:3).In addition, Jesus taught that the only route to God is via faith, not through good works.

He extolled the virtue of faith (Luke 7:9) and chastised those who put their trust in their own efforts (Matthew 7:22–28).″Good Teacher, what must I do in order to obtain eternal life?″ a wealthy young ruler once inquired of Jesus.(See Mark 10:17.) ″Why do you call me good?,″ Jesus said in response to the query.Except for God, there is no one who is good″ (Mark 10:18).

Despite the fact that Christ was not denigrating Himself or His own goodness, He was well aware that this young guy did not accept Jesus as the Messiah.While posing the question, Jesus was emphasizing the point that whatever this guy believed made someone ″good″ was untrue, because no one can make himself ″good″ enough to receive eternal life (John 14:6).Religious authorities in the Jewish community around Jesus supported the young ruler’s point of view, teaching that following God’s Law may make one acceptable to him in God’s eyes.There are still a large number of individuals who are under the impression that their ″good″ life and ″good″ activities would be sufficient to get entrance into paradise.Jesus instructed this young wealthy guy that he must give up all of his possessions and follow Him (Mark 10:21).

Jesus did not say this because generosity makes one virtuous, but because He knew the young man’s god was money, and He did not want him to be wronged.
The young man merely felt he was doing the right thing; greed proved to be his downfall.
In his despair, he turned away from Jesus, explaining that ″he possessed valuable goods″ (Mark 10:22).
Christ taught that He is the only source of eternal life and that no one else can provide it.
It is only by following and worshiping Christ alone that one can be granted eternal life (John 6:45–51, 8:31, 10:27, and 15, among other places in the Bible).

To Jesus’ teaching is centrally located the good news about the arrival of God’s Kingdom on earth.In the Gospels, the Kingdom of God is referenced more than fifty times.Matthew 13:3–9, 13:24–30, 13:31–32, and Matthew 13:33 are among the parables in which Jesus speaks of the Kingdom.In reality, Jesus stated that He had been sent for the purpose of proclaiming the advent of the Kingdom (Luke 4:43).Jesus taught that the beginning of the Kingdom of God had occurred on earth as a result of His work.

The evidence was clear: in accordance of prophesy, the blind were restored to sight, the dead were risen from the grave, and crimes were pardoned.
However, Jesus also taught that there is a component of the Kingdom that has not yet been shown to us (Luke 9:27).
His Kingdom is expanding and will be manifestly evident at some point in the future (Luke 13:18–21).
In what is often referred to as ″The Lord’s Prayer,″ Christ instructed his followers to pray for the establishment of God’s Kingdom (Matthew 6:10).
In His teachings, Jesus reminded His disciples of their mission: they are agents of God’s favor, spreading the good news of Christ’s arrival.

The teaching mode of the Savior was varied.

One of His favorite pastimes was telling stories.These kind of stories are referred to as parables.Jesus utilized parables to communicate with people on a variety of levels.

Jesus utilized stories to keep His audience’s focus on Him on several occasions.Following the telling of the story, it was widely explained.Other times, He utilized them to prevent individuals who did not come with sincere intentions from learning things that He may have desired to preserve spiritual in nature alone.

10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

As did Jesus Christ, clergy now impart knowledge to their congregations via sermons.
As He taught, He would collect those who came to hear Him, or a small group of people at a time, and teach them essential truths through a variety of methods—stories, speaking, instruction, cautions, and promises, for example.
During these sermons, he never ducked the truth or avoided it altogether.

Jesus also taught in an informal setting, either spontaneously or via the arrangement of a teaching moment.
For example, when He came across the lady who had been taken in adultery, He was able to impart a valuable lesson in a single remark when He advised that the person who was without sin be the first to stone this woman for her own transgression.
The word was received by the guys, who were ashamed of themselves and fled the scene.

Jesus, on the other hand, was not through with his teaching.He then had a conversation with the woman.He assured her that He did not judge her, sending a vital message about her value in the eyes of God.After then, He urged her to repent of her misdeeds.Whenever Martha and Mary had Jesus as a guest in their house, Martha slaved away in the kitchen, whipping up a special feast for their distinguished guest.She felt irritated because her sister, instead of assisting, chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to the gospel being taught.

Jesus was called upon by Martha to interfere, and He most likely surprised her by indicating that at this precise time, Mary was choosing the better part.
He was not disparaging the importance of feeding people or caring for one’s house.
He was delivering a lecture on prioritizing your activities based on the current situation.
Jesus couldn’t have cared less about a fine dining experience.
He tended to live a simple life.
These life-changing teachings were offered spontaneously, when the opportunity presented itself.

Using his example, he emphasizes to us the significance of being prepared to teach at a moment’s notice and taking advantage of the opportunities that present themselves.The lessons Jesus taught through example may have been the most powerful of all of Jesus’ teachings.He made it a point to live in the manner in which He want us to live.It was He who reminded them that everyone needed to be baptized when they questioned why He would be baptized given that He was flawless.He never claimed to be immune from the ordinary requirements of the gospel.

Because Jesus had been working hard all day, when a group of youngsters were brought to meet the Savior at the end of the day, the apostles wished to dismiss them because Jesus was exhausted.The Savior, on the other hand, summoned them to Himself and spent significant time with them, blessing and encouraging them.He emphasized through his actions that children were important, and that a parent or a teacher, no matter how exhausted or busy he or she might be, needed to find the time to spend with the children, and most importantly, needed to find the time to teach them the gospel of Jesus Christ.Jesus also taught through miracles, which was another method of instruction.His miracles not only revealed that He was indeed sent by God, but they also frequently served to teach a lesson.

He was able to heal folks that no one else seemed to care about or respect.He was able to treat lepers who had been isolated from the rest of society.He provided healing for the blind, who were previously condemned to begging in those days.He was able to heal both the impoverished and the wealthy.

He showed us how to respect others via these healings of persons who were deemed inconsequential by society.He made us realize that our obligation extends not only to people in our social circle or economic level, but to everyone on the planet as a whole.It was through this that He bestowed respect and significance to people who are all too frequently forgotten.

Many of the teaching approaches demonstrated here are ones that we may use to teach others in our own lives.Jesus was the ultimate teacher, and His life and teachings are made available to us so that we might learn from His example.

10 Life Lessons from Jesus

When Jesus Christ demolished many of the Jewish people’s customs, the Jewish people and religious authorities were taken completely by surprise.
As recorded in Mark 7:9, Jesus replied to several religious leaders, ″You know well well that you disregard the law of God in order to maintain your tradition.″ As the Son of God, Jesus imparted numerous lessons that can assist us in living triumphant lives.
Let’s take a look at ten life lessons that we might take away from the life of Jesus.

1 Love God with all that you are

According to Matthew 22:36-38, ″’Teacher, which of the commandments is the greatest commandment in the law?″ The Lord spoke to him and said, ″You shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your soul, and with all of your mind.″ ‘This is the first and greatest commandment,’″ says the Bible.
If we love God with all of our hearts, minds, and souls, everything else will fall into place.
When we love other things or people more than we love God, we put ourselves in a precarious position.

Nobody or anything deserves your love more than you deserve God’s love.

2 Love others

Following that, Jesus instructed his disciples to follow the second greatest commandment, which said, ″You should love your neighbor as yourself″ (Matthew 22:39).
To tell the truth, we really do adore ourselves!
Every day, we do a variety of activities for ourselves; in the same way, we love others by putting them before ourselves.

This is a tough mandate for our self-centered flesh to follow, yet it is a necessary one.
In Luke 6:27, Jesus goes even farther in his love for others: ″On the other hand, I say to those who hear: Love your enemies and do good to those who despise you.″ True enough, according to the Son of God, we are even expected to love our adversaries!

3 Nothing is more important than the Kingdom of God

What is the Kingdom of God, and how does it work?
First and foremost, it is not a physical kingdom—at least not yet.
Someday, King Jesus will establish His Kingdom on the earth in its entirety, but for the time being, it is a spiritual kingdom that is beginning to make its way into the physical realm.

Religious leaders enquired as to when God’s Kingdom will come into being (thinking God would wipe out the Romans who were ruling over them).
In Luke 17:20-21, Jesus ″answered them and said, ‘The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ″See here!″ or ″See there!″ for, indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.’″ ″The kingdom of God does not come with observation,″ Jesus says.
″However, if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, it is certain that the kingdom of God has arrived upon you,″ Jesus declared in Matthew 12:28.

In addition, according to Luke 9:1-2, ″Then He gathered His twelve disciples together and granted them authority and power over all demons, as well as the ability to cure sicknesses.″ It was he who dispatched them to preach and heal the gospel of God’s kingdom.″ (See also Luke 10:9 for more information.) Clearly, the Kingdom of God is characterized by liberation from oppression, healing and wholeness, hope, peace, and joy, among other things!″But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,″ Jesus taught in Matthew 6:33, ″and all these things will be added to you.″ Instead of chasing after things we believe we need or desire, we should be pursuing God’s Kingdom, certain that He will provide for all of our needs and wants in His time.

4 Don’t love money

Money in and of itself is not harmful, but a desire for money will always result in disaster.
When asked if he could serve two masters, Jesus responded, ″No one can serve two masters because either he would hate the one and love the other, or else he will be faithful to the one and detest the other.″ ″You cannot serve God and mammon at the same time.″ (Mammon is a slang term that refers to money.) Jesus was well aware of the influence that money might have on the human heart.
Remember, when we love something or someone more than God, we elevate that person or thing to the position of ″god″ on the throne of our hearts, which is considered idolatry.

When we keep our desire of money at bay, on the other hand, we may undoubtedly accomplish a great deal of good in the world.
The goal is to maintain control over your finances rather than allowing them to dominate you.

5 Don’t worry about earthly needs—trust God to provide

Because God is worried about us, it’s easy for us to become anxious about the things we need.
However, God urges us to put our faith in Him to provide for us instead of being anxious.
Matthew 6:24 tells us that we should not be concerned about our lives, such as what we will eat or drink; nor should we be concerned about our bodies, such as what we will put on.

″Doesn’t life consist of more than food, and the body consist of more than clothing?″ God is a loving Father who will never fail to provide for us!

6 Spiritual greatness is achieved through serving others and being humble

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day believed that being holy or spiritual required praying loudly so that everyone could hear you, giving money so that everyone could see you, and staying away from people who were sinners.
As Jesus stated in Matthew 23:11-12, ″But the greatest among you will be your servant.″ ″And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted,″ says the Prophet.
Serving others in the name of Christ with humility is the most telling sign of one’s spirituality, according to many.

7 Losing your soul to gain the world isn’t worth it

The question Jesus posed in Matthew 16:26 was, ″For what worth is it to a man if he wins the entire world but forfeits his own soul?″ The option is clear: if we pick the world, we will lose our soul; but if we choose Jesus, we will receive eternal life!
However, accepting Jesus necessitates that we live in a way that is distinct from the rest of the world: It says, ″Enter via the small gate; because wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to disaster, and there are many who enter through it.″ Because the entrance to life is small and the road to life is tough, and only a select few are fortunate enough to find it″ (Matthew 7:13-14).
Living narrowly implies that we think, talk, and behave in ways that are distinct from the rest of the world.

It also means that we live differently than the rest of the world (non-believers).
We must not blend in, but rather distinguish ourselves in order to glorify Christ.

8 If you want forgiveness, first you must give it

It’s a wonderful feeling to be forgiven for a mistake you’ve done to someone else.
However, in order to gain forgiveness in the Kingdom of God, you must first demonstrate your willingness to forgive others.
When it comes to forgiveness, Jesus taught in Matthew 6:14-15, ″If you forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.″ Nevertheless, if you do not forgive men their transgressions, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.″ Forgiveness does not imply that what someone did to you was OK, but rather that you are freeing them from the obligation of compensating you for the injustice (which they will very certainly be unable to ″repay″ anyway).

You will be able to appreciate your life more if you are able to release them.

9 Religion alone doesn’t make you holy

Religious people in Jesus’ day were concerned with the task of adhering to rules and laws that were difficult to adhere to.
They were fascinated with their external appearances and with seeming attractive to others.
However, according to Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 15:11, ″It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth that defiles a man.″ Considering that Jesus was questioning the notion that it wasn’t particular ″bad″ foods that polluted individuals, but rather the things that came from within them that rendered them unclean, this was a revolutionary concept at the time (like lust, pride, hatred, and jealousy which led them to do evil things).

Religion and ideas are useless if they do not result in a transformation of the heart.

10 Following Christ means denying ourselves

Jesus was well aware that living selfishly is not the best way to live one’s life.
This was exemplified by Jesus Himself when He denied Himself and offered His life on the cross in order to rescue and preserve humanity.
The Bible states in Matthew 16:24-25:″Then Jesus said to His disciples: ″If anyone chooses to follow Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.’″ For whomever seeks to save his or her life will lose it, but whoever loses his or her life for My sake will get it.″ Denying oneself implies that we choose what God says, not what we or others say; we choose God’s ways, not our ways; we choose what is right, not what is easy or convenient; we choose what is right, not what is easy or comfortable.

In the process of denying ourselves, we may experience a loss of relationships or opportunity; yet, we will experience actual life in Christ.

How did Jesus teach? – The Mystical Teachings of Jesus

Kim Michaels contributed to this article. Previously, we learned that the scribes and Pharisees used an approach to knowledge that was contrary to Jesus’ beliefs and values. It follows that He cannot have been teaching in the same manner that they were: by passing on factual, intellectual knowledge, which to the scribes and Pharisees meant their set interpretation of the scriptures. This is emphasized by the next comment, which says: And they were taken aback by his message, which he delivered as if he were in a position of authority rather than as the scribes. (See Mark 1:22 for further information.) Similar to how today’s scientists reference other scientists, the scribes were continually referencing scripture and their own tradition to support their arguments. As a result, they were basing their teaching on a certain interpretation of the existing scriptures that was outward, linear, intellectual, and literal in nature. Of course, Jesus drew on the texts, but he was also ready to go beyond them and speak from a greater authority, an authority that was not included within the outer scriptures. In fact, one might argue that Jesus was always striving to assist people in seeing beyond a literal understanding of the texts in order for them to comprehend a deeper meaning. Here’s only one illustration: 15. And he lectured in their synagogues, where he was exalted above all others. In Nazareth, where he had grown up, he entered the synagogue on the sabbath day and stood up for the reading, as was his usual. 17. And he received the book of the prophet Esaias, which was handed to him. And as he opened the book, he discovered the spot where it had been written, 18. I am filled with the Spirit of the Lord, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor
he has dispatched me to heal the brokenhearted, proclaim deliverance to the captives, and sight restoration to the blind, to set at liberty those who have been bruised, and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. 20. Then he closed the book and handed it back to the minister, before sitting himself down. And all of the people in the synagogue were staring at him with their eyes wide open. 21. And he started to speak to them, saying, ″This day is the fulfillment of this scripture in your ears.″ What method did Jesus want his students to take to scripture? In the next statement, in which Jesus is addressing the scribes and Pharisees for the second time, we can deduce something significant: 7. You hypocrites, Esaias accurately predicted your fate, saying, 8. This people draws near to me with their tongue, and honours me with their lips, but their hearts are distant from me. 9.
