Sit Upon the Lord?
Well, that’s what my phone auto corrected my text to say! I was trying to message encouragement from the song based on Isaiah 40:31, “Strength will rise as we WAIT upon the Lord”. After laughing my head off when rereading my text, I paused to consider what God tells us to do in Isaiah . . . WAIT! I despise waiting! Why? Just like you, I am a busy woman who has places to go and people to see. Waiting is inefficient and wastes time. After all, I could be using that time productively working on my ever present “To Do” list!
However, God has taught me that there IS purpose when He asks me to WAIT on Him. What might that purpose be? Isaiah 40:31 gives a glimpse. God tells us, “But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, they run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind” (The Message).
Curiosity led me to Google what it means to soar like an eagle. I discovered that eagles have large wings that take lots of energy to flap. When eagles are flying long distances, especially on migration, they soar on thermals to cover the longest distance using the smallest amount of energy. http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/eagle/EagleFlightLesson.html God is saying that when we wait on Him, He creates conditions that allow us to accomplish His work on our long, earthly migration called life using the smallest amount of energy. No wonder we get fresh strength, run without tiring and walk without lagging behind. God is carrying us! The condition is that we must wait for Him to show us the right time to spread our wings. If we choose NOT to wait, we will waste a lot of time flapping our wings and wearing ourselves out with little Kingdom profit.
So what do we do while we’re waiting for Him to show us it’s time to soar?
BE STILL and KNOW He IS God. (Psalm 46:10)
- BE STRONG and let our hearts TAKE COURAGE. (Psalm 27:14)
- PRAY, knowing that God is always working even when we don’t SEE what He’s doing. (John 5:17)
- CONFIDENTLY TRUST that He is GOOD and is FOR you! (Romans 8:28)
So, Leader, WAIT upon the Lord!
