Merle Haggard – One Day At A Time Lyrics

  1. ″One Day at a Time″ is all I can say because I’m only human.
  2. I’m simply a regular guy.
  3. Help me to believe in myself and all that I am capable of becoming.
  4. Lord, please show me the stairs that I must climb and, for my own good, educate me to take things one day at a time.
  5. One day at a time, precious Jesus, that is all I am asking of you.

Please give me the strength to accomplish what I have to do each and every day.Yesterday is gone, lovely Jesus, and tomorrow may or may not come to me.So please, for my own good, educate me to live one day at a time.Do you recall the first time you stepped among men?Well, Jesus, you know that if you look underneath the surface, it’s much worse now than it was then.

My thoughts are being pushed and shoved about in my head.So please, for my own good, educate me to live one day at a time. One day at a time, precious Jesus, that is all I am asking of you. Please give me the strength to accomplish what I have to do each and every day.Yesterday is gone, lovely Jesus, and tomorrow may or may not come to me.

  1. So please, for my own good, educate me to live one day at a time.
  2. Yes, please, for my own good, educate me to take things one day at a time.
  3. Thank you to Laureen Gerard for pointing out the errors in these lyrics.

One Day At A Time (Marijohn Wilkin & Kris Kristofferson) Story

  1. On many occasions, it is difficult to see the road ahead.
  2. We can only take things one day at a time, and that is all we can do.
  3. Marijohn Wilkin wrote the song ″One Day at a Time″ when she was fifty-three years old, and it has since become a classic.
  4. As a songwriter for country music, she had achieved tremendous success by this point in her career.
  5. She had, however, experienced a great deal of grief and loss.

Her first spouse was a fighter pilot who was killed in action during World War II.Later in life, she suffered with drinking as well as despair. For all of her accomplishments, Wilkin admitted that she was miserable. She sought the assistance of a local clergyman, who was unclear of the best way to assist her. After all, she was driving a Cadillac and decked up in a full-length fur coat and a slew of diamonds.

″Have you ever considered about thanking God for your problems?″ the preacher inquired at some point in the conversation. She left the home and returned to find it completely deserted.Sitting down to the keyboard, she sang out the whole chorus to the song ″One Day at a Time.″ She understood that the song was a prayer and that it would go on to become a hit.A day or two later, she pulled out an envelope and began writing as quickly as she possibly could. The words for what would become the second verse came quickly to mind.

  1. She hadn’t been to church in a long time and was wondering whether God had forgotten about her.
  2. Wilkin felt she needed to get the song off to a good start.
  3. Kris Kristofferson, a friend of hers, was called.
  4. The first stanza was composed in around 20 minutes, thanks to the efforts of the group.

I make an effort The song has been covered by a slew of artists and has reached No.1 on several charts.Marijohn Wilkin has released a number of albums.

The first single, I Have Returned, held the top spot on the charts for One Day at a Time. This was her public declaration of faith, announcing to the world that she had returned to Christ.Since then, she has composed hundreds of gospel songs and has been honored with a Dove Award, which she received in 1975.Top Songs to Choose and Share:

How One Day at a Time Assembled a Latinx Supergroup, Led by Gloria Estefan

The likelihood of sparks flying between Rita Moreno and Gloria Estefan is high when the two are in the same room.Certainly the case with Netflix’s One Day at a Time revival, which utilized its Season 3 opener to introduce Estefan as Mirtha, Lydia’s estranged sister, in the first episode of Season 3.(Moreno).Melissa Fumero and Stephanie Beatriz, Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars with their own fan bases, were also cast in the half-hour sitcom, but each acknowledged to being star struck by Estefan and Moreno.

It was showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett who said it best: ″The entire week on set was nothing short of miracle.″ We were all acutely aware that we were participating in something unique as a group, and this served to elevate the experience for everyone involved.″ Season 3 begins with a tragic event: Ta Ofelia has passed away.It takes the Alvarez family a minute to figure out who Ta Ofelia is, so her death primarily means that they’ll have to spend her funeral navigating a series of ancient family feuds—such as Lydia and Mirtha’s years-long battle over a priceless lost mantilla—that have been raging for generations in their family.Estrellita is played by Fumero, who is the daughter of Mirtha and the cousin of Penelope (Justina Machado), with whom she used to be closest friends before their moms’ dispute caused a disastrous gap between them.As Ta Pilar, Beatriz portrays Elena (Isabella Gomez), Penelope’s daughter, who is anxious to bond with her only homosexual relative, Ta Pilar (Beatriz Aguilera).

Both Beatriz and Fumero relished the opportunity to appear in a multi-camera sitcom in front of a live audience, which is the closest thing television has to a theatrical experience.“ Finally, Rita Moreno and Gloria frickin’ Estefan appeared on the scene, and Fumero learned that Gloria would be playing her mother.″It was the icing on top of everything,″ Fumero remarked in a recent interview. In order to show up, I had to do a lot of mental preparation, including telling myself to ‘Be cool, be regular.’″ Simply put, ″be professional, do your task, and don’t be a complete jerk.″ The actress, who spoke to Beatriz separately, added, ″I studied Rita like a hawk that whole week, and what I adore about her is that she starts out so sort of gentle and delicate.″ When she goes to rehearsals, she dresses in all of this lovely cashmere, and she always wears a hat because it gets quite chilly on those stages.″ On day one, ″she’s got this very sweet voice, and she’s slowly making her way about,″ Beatriz said.

  1. I couldn’t take my gaze away from her after that.
  2. ″Then it becomes a little more intense on day two, and by day three, she’s beginning to let everything go and getting loose with her material and finding out her timing, and it’s…
  3. I couldn’t take my gaze away from her.″ Additionally, both actors reminisced about how hospitable Moreno was on set, with each of them recalling a specific instance on the first day of filming when Moreno invited them into her dressing room.
  4. Beatriz’s palms began to sweat almost immediately after waking up.

Stephenie thought to herself, ″Try to remember every second of this because this woman is being really generous with you.″ Inviting you into her personal space and introducing you to the work on this program is her way of saying hello.″It’s a true gift,″ Beatriz expressed her gratitude.″That’s what distinguishes a star from a regular person.

  1. And that is exactly what she is.″ In the room, Fumero added, ″she has all of these mementos from her professional life.″ In response, she said, ‘I love to nest,’ and she said that she ″always makes her dressing room really homely, since she wants to feel calm in here and be reminded of pleasant memories in her personal and professional career.″ Fumero spent some time looking through old images and chatting with Moreno before the actress retired for a little nap.
  2. ″She has that energy of being larger-than-life, but at the same time she is very nice, open, and grounded,″ Fumero said of the actress.
  3. Moreno has been a regular on One Day at a Time since the show’s relaunch, but Estefan’s guest appearance on the show had been planned for several years.
  4. Despite the fact that the singer performs the show’s theme song, Calderón Kellett explained that she is ″an worldwide superstar—so she’s a little bit busy.″ This season, scheduling issues were finally resolved, allowing Estefan to appear with Moreno, Beatriz, Fumero, and other guest star Liz Torres, of stage and Gilmore Girls fame—a notable group of Latinx talent—for the first time in years.
  5. The opportunity to work with Estefan was particularly significant for Fumero, who recalls her mother sitting her down as a youngster and forcing her to listen to ″Mi Tierra,″ an emotive song adapted to the rhythm of classic Cuban dance music about the sorrow of missing a hometown from which one cannot return.
  6. ″This song brings back memories of my childhood.

This song brings back memories of what it was like back then. With tears in her eyes, her mother told her that the song ″reminds me of everything I love about Cuba.″ ″I’d like to point out that Emilio Estefan is the only celebrity I’ve ever approached for an autograph,″ Fumero continued.Calderón Kellett was particularly pleased to witness how Moreno and Estefan complemented one another’s comic timing: ″They were really funny together,″ she said.

  • It seems like they were continuously working on something.
  • They had a dynamic similar to that of siblings, and they leaped into the arms of these specific women with such enthusiasm.
  • ″I believe that since they are both such nice people in real life, they were drawn to the concept of becoming a little bit devilish.″ Adding to the amusement, Calderón Kellett said, ″the whole affair was a hoot.″ The two of them were cracking each other up.
  • Making us laugh is a good thing.
  • Rita hardly ever takes a break.

She was laughing a lot because she was being so humorous, and the whole thing was just a great delight for the people in the audience.″ ″

‘One Day at a Time’ Theme Song Is Gone, and What Else to Expect as It Moves to Pop TV

″One Day at a Time″ will be moving to Pop TV without its appealing theme music, and that will be the end of it.The revamped, Cuban-flavored version of the ″One Day at a Time″ theme was recorded by pop star Gloria Estefan for the Netflix production, and it served as the opening theme for the show’s first three seasons. However, in order to go to commercial television, where episodes must fit within a 21-minute time slot, something had to be sacrificed, and that meant reducing the opening credits to a basic title card.During the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, executive producer Gloria Calderón Kellett told reporters, ″It’s OK, it’s on YouTube.″ ″Gloria Estefan is going to be OK,″ says a source.

We’ll inform folks that it’s available, and we’ll continue to tweet about it.The performance requires that 50 seconds, but we don’t have that time available.″ Mike Royce, a fellow executive producer, proposed that viewers who miss the opening credits should push the stop button, play the theme tune, and then start watching the program to catch up.As ″One Day at a Time″ transitions to Pop TV for its fourth season, one notable difference is that episodes will now run on a weekly basis rather than being published all at once, as was the case previously.″We’re looking forward to coming on once a week,″ Royce remarked.

″We’re going to purchase every home in America a watercooler,″ says the president.Calderón Kellett said she was always amazed at how rapidly people would binge-watch ″One Day at a Time,″ and then not have any more episodes to view for another year after they finished watching.″It took such a long time to put it together!″ she said. The show’s creators now feel like they can ″sit in the deliciousness of each episode and have a dialogue about that.″ Our fan base is mostly built on social media, which allows us to communicate with them on a weekly basis.″ Commercial act breaks and a somewhat shorter run time are among the new additions to the program, according to Royce, ″but I don’t believe we’ll want to change the ability to let it breathe every now and then.″ The program will continue to feature a mix of family-friendly comedy and socially concerned tales in addition to this.

  1. Cast member Justina Machado described the experience of working on the show’s scripts as ″like a dream come true for an actress.″ ″I feel secure with whatever screenplay comes our way,″ said Todd Grinnell, who portrays Schneider: ″I feel safe with anything comes our way.″ The fact that they can confront these subjects while still having a poignant moment and then a laugh at the same time is astounding to me.″ As a result of Netflix’s decision not to proceed with a fourth season of ″One Day at a Time,″ the program’s future was in doubt — notably owing to difficult licensing concerns that precluded the show from being transferred to another streaming service.
  2. Finally, Sony Pictures Television negotiated a deal for a new season that featured an initial run on Pop TV as well as a secondary window on the CBS network.
  3. In the words of Pop TV’s top star, Brad Schwartz, ″our choice was reinforced by an extraordinarily devoted following.″ ″It’s still a ground-breaking series today, just as it was a generation ago, and that’s where Pop TV shines the brightest.″ It’s deeply personal for those who can relate to it, but it’s also instantly universal for the rest of us.″ In the words of Brent Miller, co-founder of Act III Prods.
  4. together with Norman Lear, ″One of the advantages of being with Sony is that they worked their asses off to make sure they didn’t give up on this program.″ ″They performed an incredible job.″ In addition to Lear, Rita Moreno, and Stephen Tobolowsky, the following people were on the panel: According to Moreno, ″I can’t believe what a ridiculous course this outrageous career has gone.″ Royce went on to say that one more thing has changed as a result of the show’s shift to Pop TV: ″One Day at a Time″ will now be measured by Nielsen ratings.

Because Netflix does not share ratings, he was pleased to announce that his show was the highest-rated series on the streaming service.″It’s a conundrum.″

One Day at a Time: A Cristy Lane Hit from Kris Kristofferson

Kris Kristofferson and Marijohn Wilkin were the authors of the song, to be more specific. From the moment this gospel song was launched, it immediately became the most popular song on the radio.Churches began to play it on a regular basis. It’s possible that your mothers sang it to you when you were younger.

As a result, the majority of us were familiar with it.Please join us in singing along with the lyrics if you haven’t already.

One day at a time, Sweet Jesus!

The Songstress

″One Day at a Time″ is a country song written by Cristy Lane.Despite the fact that she was not the first to record it, her 1980 version became a hit in the United States. Its prominence continued to grow during the following decade. To this day, it is one of the most popular churches in the world.

Eleanor Johnston of Peoria, Illinois, gave birth to Cristy Lane, who became known as Cristy Lane.Country music was a big passion for her husband, Lee Stoller, who adored it.As a result, she was convinced to perform country music under the management of Stoller.Several of her songs charted in the top ten of the country music charts.

″Let Me Down Easy,″ ″I’m Gonna Love You Anyhow,″ ″Penny Arcade,″ and ″I Just Can’t Stay Married To You″ were among the songs that were performed. In 1979, she was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, a distinction she has held since. One Day at a Time, on the other hand, was her very first No.1.

  1. Her record label, United Artists Records, believed it was a terrible decision based on the same reasoning that gospel music don’t sell.
  2. Imagine how surprised everyone was when it turned out to be a multimillion-selling hit a short time later.
  3. Stoller attempted to publish Cristy Lane’s biography under the same title, perhaps as a result of the success of the first book.
  4. Unfortunately, they were turned down.

Stoller eventually published the biography, which was well received by its readers!During the mid-1980s, the book became a best-seller.

IMPACT

The consequences were far-reaching, with an impact on people all across the world. As a consequence, other musicians who used it to record their own music were able to benefit from it. Besides being a hit in the United States with Cristy Lane’s rendition, One Day at a Time was also a hit in the United Kingdom (1978) and Ireland (1979). (1979).

At the End of My Rope: ″One Day at a Time″

CBN.com As long as thou livest, so shall thou be strong. Many of the songs that are valuable to Christians were conceived as a result of human affliction.Considering the circumstances surrounding the composition of the song ″One Day at a Time,″ that is an understatement. While Marijohn Wilkin’s journey from one mountaintop of joy and success to another was filled with excruciating mental suffering, the valleys in between were filled with even greater joy and success.

Ernest and Karla Melson had just one kid, Marijohn, who was born to them in Kemp, Texas, in 1920.Ernest and Karla Melson had only one child.Ernest played the violin, the piano, or led the singing at the First Baptist Church of Sanger, Texas, and Marijohn quickly followed in her father’s musical footsteps.Ernest passed away in 2011.

Her father taught her how to play the piano when she was five years old, and one year later, when her hands had grown a little larger, she was able to immediately repeat the songs she had heard him play.A straight-forward approach Marijohn began working at the family company, Melson’s Veribest Bread, when his father, Ernest, was diagnosed with cancer when he was fourteen years old, while still in school. She was responsible for a wide range of tasks, from store deliveries to work in the plant.Just before his death three years later, which came as a devastating blow to Marijohn, Ernest was able to win a dual pledge from her: that she would continue her music studies at college, and that she would look after her ailing mother.

  1. Marijohn graduated as salutatorian of her high school class, despite the fact that she worked long hours in the bakery.
  2. Combined with her outstanding musical abilities, she was offered a scholarship to Baylor University.
  3. She accepted the offer.
  4. She attended Baylor for a brief period of time before deciding to attend a lesser university, Hardin-Simmons University, where she was also awarded a full scholarship.

She was the first female member of the University Cowboy Band when she attended Hardin-Simmons, and she remains the only female member to this day. With her musical and vocal abilities, she excelled at the college level, earning her numerous unusual opportunities to travel the country and perform with the Cowboy Band.Marijohn’s husband, Bedford Russell, whom she had married two months after graduation, was killed in action during World War II in South Africa, where he was serving as a pilot.

  1. He died three years after Marijohn graduated from college.
  2. Marijohn was able to rise beyond her grief and continue working as a schoolteacher and singing as an alto soloist in her church choir.
  3. She also attempted to create songs, but she was so dissatisfied with her attempts that she threw away the manuscripts she had written.
  4. In 1977, at the age of thirty-seven, she relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where she rose to prominence as one of the most prolific songwriters in the country music industry and went on to form Buckhorn Music Publishers.
  5. During this period, she had remarried and was the mother of a young son named John Buck.
  6. She penned more than four hundred country songs, several of which reached the top of the country music charts after being released.

In addition to Mel Tillis and Johnny Cash, she has worked with Charlie Pride, Patsy Cline and Glen Campbell, among a long list of other notable performers.Kris Kristofferson worked as a writer for her while she was with Buckhorn Music.More than seventy-five of his songs were published by her.

  • Marijohn stopped going to church in the midst of the fame, money, and success she was experiencing as a country music songwriter, and she eventually became addicted to alcohol.
  • She tried suicide on more than one occasion during her life.
  • God, on the other hand, was merciful and spared her life.
  • Marijohn wrote her most famous song, ″One Day at a Time,″ when she was fifty-three years old.
  • Following is the narrative behind the song, as revealed to me by the singer: ″I couldn’t understand why I was experiencing so much success in the country music industry at the time.″ Despite the fact that I had gotten quite a rush from being a country writer, I had reached the end of my rope.

I had a strong sense that I had been called to be a gospel writer, but I couldn’t seem to make the transition successfully. In Nashville, I was immersed in the music culture to the point of exhaustion.I was present wherever anything was ‘happening,’ assisting in making it happen.Nonetheless, I felt dissatisfied!″I’d had enough!″ A young preacher agreed to let me speak with him when I approached him at a little church where I had stopped.

Later on, I discovered that I was the very first person he had advised.I arrived in my brand new midnight blue Cadillac, decked up in a full-length mink coat, glittering jewelry, and my cowboy boots, which I had purchased recently.’I’m having all kinds of issues,’ I explained.

He took one glance at me and stated, ‘You don’t appear to be experiencing any financial difficulties.’ ‘No, I don’t,’ I said.’I’m sorry.’ ‘You appear to be in good health,’ he replied.’Well, I guess I am,’ I explained.

  • ‘Can you tell me about your primary problem?’ he inquired.
  • ‘I’m not sure,’ I admitted.
  • ″He didn’t appear to know what to say next to me.″ At that moment in our chat, he said something amusing, but it didn’t matter since it was effective.
  • ‘Have you ever considered giving thanks to God for your difficulties?’ he inquired.
  • (See also Ephesians 5:20.) ″I drove back to my house after leaving his office.″ The home was deserted when I got there, which was a relief for me.
  • I sat down at the piano and proceeded to play and sing along with the whole chorus of ‘One Day at a Time’ in front of the audience.
  • ‘All I ask is for You to do that for me.
  • ‘Please give me the strength to do what I have to do every day,’ I pray.
  • It just slid into my heart without any effort.
  • Afterwards, my ‘Nashville mind’ exclaimed, ‘Wait, that’s a hit!’ after I had finished singing.
  • That’s the first thing that sprang to me when I thought about it.
  • ″I suddenly realized that the song was a prayer, and I felt a sense of comfort.″ I scribbled the chorus on the back of an envelope as quickly as my fingers could move.
  • ‘Do You remember when You walked among men?’ I sang as I continued to sing.
  1. As far as I’m aware, if Jesus is watching down, the situation is far worse now than it was then.’ I wasn’t entirely confident that the Lord was aware of my whereabouts.
  2. I’d never stopped believing in Him, but I was in Nashville, and God was in heaven, and the two of us would never again be together.
  3. Really, I wasn’t sure whether God was aware of my whereabouts at the time.
  4. ″I understand that some people may not accept this, but it was my situation at the time.″ The next morning, my thoughts returned to the music I had heard the night before.
  5. I got the second verse and the chorus written out, but I couldn’t seem to get the music to start correctly for some reason.
  6. They were in town because Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge, who were married at the time, were in town to perform.
  • They had recently scored a great success with ‘Why Me, Lord?’ penned by Kris, and they were riding high.
  • Their recording had garnered them a Dove Award nomination.
  • I dialed Kris’ number and asked him to assist me with the first verse of the song.
  • My firm, Buckhorn Music, was the publisher of several of his tunes, and we’d had some really huge singles as a result of his work.″ As soon as I showed him how I started the song, he exclaimed, ″I’m just a mortal….″ ‘Why don’t you just say, ″I’m only human, I’m just a man…″ he said, looking at me and saying.
  • ‘Way to go!’ I said.

That is exactly what I require.’ After about twenty minutes, we were finished with the first verse.″The lines just flitted out of each of our mouths.″ Originally recorded by Marilyn Sellers, the song went on to become the number one hit in a number of categories after being released. It was first a smash on the country charts in this nation before making its way onto the pop charts. There were other nations where it was among the top 10, including England, Ireland, and two other countries where it was the number one pop hit. Each recording has been made by a separate artist from the nation in which it was made.

It has long ago reached the six hundred mark in terms of artist records, and it has made its way into the Southern Gospel Music genre as well. The vocalist Marijohn Wilkin went on to create four fantastic albums for Word Music, which are still in print today. The song ″One Day at a Time″ appeared on her debut studio album, which was named I Have Return. It was Marijohn’s way of informing the rest of the world that she had returned to the Lord. She is now a contented, alcohol-free Christian who has written approximately three hundred gospel songs in her life so far.In 1975, she was recognized once more, this time with a Dove Award, which she accepted.

She shared the stage with other award winners, including Brock Speer and James Blackwood, both of whom are well-known in the world of Southern Gospel Music. She has remained in Nashville as her permanent residence.Reflection Even though each day of our life might present us with apparently insurmountable obstacles, we must constantly remember that God has said that He would never abandon us or forsake us.Allow yourself to be at ease in His presence today.

One Day At A Time by Lena Martell – Songfacts

  • Helen Thompson was given the name Lena Martell when she was born near Glasgow. She began singing with her brother’s band when she was 11 years old, and four years later, she was found on the talent program Find The Singer. Over a ten-year period in the 1970s and 1980s, she hosted primetime television series for the BBC Television Network. Martell was 39 years old when this cover of a country classic written by Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson reached three weeks at the top of the UK singles and albums chart. As far as we know, this is the only UK1 to feature the name Kris Kristofferson
  • the song is taken from Lena Martell’s album, Hello Misty Morning. She expressed herself as follows: ″That song is one of my favorites since the lyrics are straightforward but convey a powerful message. Individuals who are ill, have recently lost a loved one, or are going through a divorce will find it appealing. Time does ultimately heal when you take life one hour at a time, then one day at a time.″
  • ″One Day at a Time″ ″Marilyn Sellars recorded the original version of this song in 1974. Sellars was born in Minnesota and worked as an airline hostess before relocating to Nashville in 1973. This single, which reached number 37 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1975, was her biggest hit and earned her the Dove Award for best song from the Gospel Music Association (GMA). For many country fans, the most well-known version is the one recorded by Cristy Lane, which reached number one on the US Country chart in 1980. ″One Day at a Time″ was recorded by Lane after Lena Martell’s version of the song was successful in the United Kingdom. Though Kris Kristofferson is credited as a co-writer, he claims he did not write the gospel-influenced song. In the book 1000 UK1 Hits: The Complete Collection, Kristoffersen admits that he was a liar ″I never sing the song since I didn’t create it, thus I never perform it. For the Good Times’ and ‘Darby’s Castle’ were published by Marijohn Wilkin, who was the first publisher I worked for. She was also my first boss. ‘One Day At A Time’ was written by her, and I was present while she was composing it, and I believe I may have offered her a phrase or two to incorporate into the song. If I looked closely at the lyrics, I might be able to identify a phrase that I wrote, but I believe she wrote the entire song, and I recall her singing it to me. Her method of expressing ‘Thank you’ for the songs I had written for her was to pay me back for some of the songs I had written for her. It’s something I’ve done myself. I’ve given pieces of my songs to a lot of folks who have never written a single word in their lives.″
