‘Bible,’ ‘Son of God’ star Diogo Morgado ‘freaked out’ about playing Jesus

Few, if any, acting jobs come with bigger audience expectations than Diogo Morgado’s role in the History Channel miniseries “The Bible,” which he played. As he stated on TODAY Tuesday morning, when he originally considered playing Jesus, he felt a pang of fear. “I had a nervous breakdown!” Morgado, who plays the role again in the film adaptation “Son of God,” confessed as much. “I was completely taken aback; I was in a state of fear because I realized I was responsible. I mean, I traveled to Jerusalem and, when I was there, I was struck with the significance of the tale on my own.

The Bible (TV Mini Series 2013)

For me, as a Christian who was born and raised in China, it is extremely difficult to maintain my faith in a country where Christianity is seen by the majority as superstition or a collection of fairy tales. Consequently, I was overjoyed to have the opportunity to review these thought-provoking stories that may perhaps assist to enhance my trust in God. I looked forward to it. In the first few of episodes, I was completely drawn into the world of Genesis and Exodus because of the narrative approach used and the visual effects used.

To top it all off, from episode 6 onward, the portrayal of Jesus Christ is the most accurate I’ve ever seen when compared to other titles with a similar subject matter.

For example, the history of some of the old prophets such as Samuel, Nathan, and Jeremiah, as well as one of my favorite stories – Jonah’s disobedience to God’s instruction – are all included in the book.
Despite the fact that I appreciate that the program’s restricted duration and budget make it difficult to incorporate every detail, taking a step back and looking at the show as a whole, I still believe that it is missing something vital.
In other words, I believe that this performance merely explains two-thirds of the doctrine of the Trinity.

As you might expect, the film presents the well-known account of Christ’s 40 days in the desert, with the interesting twist that Ewan McGregor appears as both Jesus and the devil at the same time.

He was already a great celebrity, and he’d kept himself busy with a number of important parts in the film industry.

He also portrays Christopher Robin — yes, the stuffed animal’s best friend — in a 2018 film depicting a grown-up version of the character reconnecting with his old animal buddies in the Hundred Acre Wood, which was released in 2018.

The Jesus actors who are no longer with us

Sadly, some of the most prominent Jesus actors are no longer with us, in addition to the numerous living actors we’ve been able to track down. R. Henderson Bland (left), who played Jesus in the 1912 film From the Manger to the Cross, is credited as being the world’s first cinematic Jesus. Bland passed suddenly in 1941, after a handful of extra acting credits had been collected. H.B. Warner (center-left) was a leading man in Cecil B. DeMille’s King of Kings, which premiered in 1927. According to TCM, Warner was compelled to sign a contract promising to live a “exemplary life” for the following year, which may have contributed to his issue with alcoholism in the first place.

He was later apprehended and condemned to hard labor, and he lived the remainder of his years of freedom in poverty.

He died in 1969, at the age of forty-nine.

Finally, in Mel Brooks’History of the World: Part I, the great actor John Hurt (right) played the role of Jesus. Hurt went on to act in the cinematic adaptation of George Orwell’s novel 1984 and most recently appeared as the “War Doctor” on the BBC’s Doctor Who. Hurt passed away in January 2017.
