Seeking My Identity in Christ

It’s no surprise that we ask ourselves, “Who am I in Christ?” in which our world is saturated with appealing advertising, shows, personalities, and messages, as well as media that makes it difficult for us to discern who we truly are The organization is attempting to establish a claim on our identity and seize a piece of us. Every single outlet has distinguishing characteristics, such as:

  • Our occupations
  • Political affiliations
  • Education
  • Religious affiliations
  • Marital and single statuses

Professional careers; political affiliations; educational attainment; religious affiliations; marital or single status

Tactics That Cause Us to Doubt:

Our occupations; political affiliations; education; religious affiliations; marital and single status;

Tactic1: Distractions.

Identifying who I am in Christ vs being distracted by other things: Because of these diversions, we believe that our identity may be discovered in the number of friends we have, the type of automobile we drive, the location in which we reside, the job title we have, or the amount of money we earn. Distractions can cause us to question our own identities and cause us to lose sight of our genuine selves, as well as our true selves. How often do you lose sight of who you are and become distracted by the things that are going on around you?

Tactic2: Confusion.

Confusion vs. Who Am I in Christ: Confusion drives us to wonder and question our own identity. The world tells us over and over again that we must become (fill in the blank) in order to be successful (blank). For example, you should strive to become:

  • Popular on Facebook is to be well-known and recognized
  • Attractive means to be noticed
  • Successful means to be affluent.

We are constantly being given images of what is beautiful, popular, and successful from a variety of sources. All of it is appealing, and we think to ourselves, “Yes, I really need this.” That’s exactly what I need to do in order to achieve this.” Consequently, we are tempted to join in and hustle our way through this society in the hopes of becoming what the world has deemed us to be as individuals. It invariably results in uncertainty when we accomplish everything that is necessary and yet do not make the cut, and it ultimately results in doubt and disappointment as a result.

Tactic3: Criticism.

Who I Am in Christ in Relation to Criticism: Criticism, whether it is self-imposed or derived from unfavorable ideas, drives us to question our own identity. We get into comparison traps and silently criticize ourselves in areas where we differ from the person next to us. Alternatively, we may have negative ideas and images of ourselves because we just do not measure up to the world’s expectations. The message is clear: “You are not enough.” The world does not have to say it explicitly, but the message is clear: “You are not enough.” After a while, we accept it as a part of our own personal identity.

Tactic4: Busyness.

Who I Am in Christ vs. How Busy I Am: When we are always on the move and preoccupied with our daily lives, our priorities become jumbled and our sense of ourselves is marginalized. We’re too busy becoming, trying, racing, and seeking for the next greatest thing to stop and think about what we’re missing. It’s no surprise that we have questions about or altogether forget who we are! Associated Post:How to De-Stress in a Fast-paced World These are very real methods, and each one of them has the potential to induce us to wonder and question our own identities and who we are as people.

I want to bring out here – and perhaps you have already observed this – that the world, in stark contrast to God, takes the initiative. It makes an attempt to grab what God has generously provided. Christ is the only one who can give us our genuine identity.
