When Jesus Is My Portion

What does it mean to say that God is my portion?

QuestionAnswer “LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you ensure that my lot is safe,” David declares (Psalm 16:5). Among the other verses in the Bible where God is referred to as “my portion” are Psalm 73:26, Psalm 142:5, and Lamentations 3:24. The Hebrew word for “portion” has something to do with rationing or dividing something into parts. In Psalm 16:5, the Hebrew word for “portion” is translated as “inheritance” according to the New Living Translation. The wordportion is linked to the concept of inheritance in the New American Standard: “The LORD is a portion of my inheritance.” The phrase “inheritance” refers to the allotment of land granted to Israel when they crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land (Numbers 26:52–56; Joshua 14:1–5, respectively).

In the Torah, God reveals that He has given the land to His offspring, the people of Israel, and it is stipulated that each family’s allotment of land shall remain in the family (Numbers 36:7).

Numbers 27:8 states that if there were no sons, the property was divided among the daughters, under the stipulation that they did not marry outside of their tribe (Numbers 36:6ff).

As long as no one married the widow, the inheritance remained with the widow until she died, at which point it was passed on to the next of kin (Numbers 27:9–11).

  • A land inheritance was not given to the priestly tribe of Levi: “Levi has neither a share nor an inheritance among his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, just as the LORD your God promised him” (Deuteronomy 10:9, NKJV).
  • He would take care of all of their requirements.
  • Additionally, it has theological importance.
  • The notion of inheritance is very prevalent in the New Testament, and it is associated with the person and activity of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament.
  • Believers are adopted as children of God and are co-heirs with Christ as a result of Christ’s redeeming work on the cross (Romans 8:17; Galatians 4:7).
  • All Christians, whether Jews and Gentiles, will receive a part or inheritance from the Lord (Ephesians 3:6).
  • It is entirely a gift of God’s sovereign grace on our behalf.
  • In the words of the Son of God, “My grace is sufficient for you, because my power is made perfect in your weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  • When a biblical author says, “God is my portion,” he is referring to the fact that God is the source of his contentment and blessing.
  • He has been blessed with the most wonderful inheritance possible and does not seek any material possessions or consolation from sources other than God.
  • “Even though my flesh and my heart fail, God is the strength of my heart, and he will be my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26, NASB).

The fact that God is our portion means that we don’t require anything else. Questions regarding the Psalms (return to top of page) In what sense does it make sense to declare that God is my portion?

His Eye is on the Sparrow – Lyrics, Hymn Meaning and Story

Civilla Martin is a woman who works in the civil service. Throughout our lives, we may experience feelings of discouragement and depression. But constantly keep in mind that He is at our side and is keeping an eye on us through everything. Remember that He is with us in whatever we do, just as the lyrics of the song ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow’ remind us. And your heart will be touched when you hear the story of how this well-known hymn came to be composed. Be at ease because we have the King of kings on our side.

Why should I be disheartened, why should the shadows appear, why should I be depressed?

He is a constant companion of mine: His eye is on the sparrow, and I am aware that He is keeping an eye on me.His eye is on the sparrow, and I am aware that He is keeping an eye on me.

“Do not allow your heart to be worried,” I hear His compassionate words say.

Despite the fact that I can only see one step on the route He directs; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He is watching me; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He is watching me The reason I sing is because I’m joyful and free, because His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He’s keeping an eye on me, as well.

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He is watching me.

The Story Behind His Eye is on the Sparrow

Civilla Martin was born in the province of Nova Scotia in the year 1866. Her husband worked as an evangelist, traveling all across the United States to spread the gospel. She accompanied him on stage, and the two of them collaborated on the majority of the musical arrangements that were performed. In 1904, Civilla was paying a visit to a sick and bedridden acquaintance. Despite being dejected and ill, her companion remembered that God, her heavenly Father, was looking over each and every sparrow, and that he would undoubtedly keep an eye on her as well.

  • Your Father will ensure that none of them falls to the ground while not under his care.
  • So don’t be worried; you are more valuable than a whole flock of sparrows.” As a poet, Mrs.
  • Taking notes, she finished “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” by late in the day.
  • In little churches and large crusades, his beautiful music has spread the message of Christ all across the world.

Shirley Ceasar – His Eye Is On The Sparrow lyrics

Is it really necessary for me to be disheartened and to see shadows? Is it really necessary for my heart to be lonely and to crave for heaven and home, when Jesus is my portion? He is a constant companion of mine: His eye is on the sparrow, and I am aware that He is keeping an eye on me.His eye is on the sparrow, and I am aware that He is keeping an eye on me. (An alternate opening verse is provided.) Why should I be disheartened, why should the darkness fall on my shoulders? Why should my heart be worried when everything except hope has been lost?

His attention is focused on the Sparrow, and I am aware that He is keeping an eye on me.

Refrain I sing because I’m joyful, I sing because I’m free, I sing because I’m in love.

“Do not allow your heart to be worried,” I hear His compassionate words say.

Despite the fact that I can only see one step on the route He directs; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He is watching me; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He is watching me I come closer to Him every time I am tempted, every time clouds appear, every time songs give way to sighing, every time hope inside me fades; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He is watching me; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He is watching me Refrain

  1. READING FROM THE SCRIPTURE: Psalm 119:57-58, 62-64, and 132-133 The Lord has pledged to be my portion, and I have promised to abide by your commands.
  2. I rise at twelve o’clock in the morning to express my gratitude for your just rules.
  3. Dear Lord, the planet is overflowing with your love; teach me your decrees!
  4. Father, I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for everything you have done for me.
  5. I am in awe of all He is, as well as of how much He loves and cares for me!
  6. Immediately, my thoughts fly to Psalm 23:1, where King David declares, “The Lord is my shepherd, and I need nothing.” I am overjoyed that praying today’s Scripture will assist me in living in my wonderful Portion of the world.
  7. I am a friend to all who fear Him and follow His precepts.

I pray these things in the name of the Most High God. Amen.

What is meant by saying ‘God is my portion’?

In Psalm 16:5, King David refers to God as his portion, saying, “The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you are the one who holds my lot.” In Psalm 142:5, he restated the same attitude that he had expressed earlier. “God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever,” Asaph wrote in Psalm 73:26, referring to God as “the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” “‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.'” Lamentations 3:24 states, “‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul.

  1. The word “portion” is sometimes translated as “inheritance” in the original language.
  2. When we say that God is our portion, we are referring to the fact that He is our all-sufficient One, the source of all we might ever require.
  3. This land was part of their family’s heritage, which had been passed down from one generation to another (Numbers 36:7).
  4. “Levi does not share a part or inherit anything from his siblings.
  5. Furthermore, the New Testament refers to Christians as co-heirs with Christ, the Son of God, since we have been grafted into God’s family via Christ’s death and resurrection.
  6. Our “everlasting inheritance” is ensured by the presence of the Holy Spirit in our life because of the gift of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:14; Hebrews 9:15).
  7. What is the nature of the inheritance?

However, this does not imply that the life of a Christian is simple; rather, it implies that we have the grace of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives to assist us as we travel through life, and that we have been promised eternal life with Jesus in heaven.

“My grace is sufficient for you, because my power is made perfect in weakness,” Jesus declares in the Gospel of Matthew (2 Corinthians 12:9).

He is the sole heir to the estate who is important.

When God is our portion, we have nothing to worry about because we have an endless supply of hope (Lamentations 3:24).

What does it mean for God to look at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7) to determine a person’s character?

What exactly does it mean to be the apple of God’s eye? What is God’s method of demonstrating His love for us? What is the reason for God’s love for us? What exactly are God’s qualities, and what do they mean? Return to the Truth about God page.

His Eye Is on the Sparrow

Is it really necessary for me to be disheartened, why should the shadows fall, why should my heart be lonely, and yearn for heav’n and home, when Jesus is my portion? The sparrow has his eye on me, and I know he is watching me. The sparrow has his eye on me, and I know he is watching me. My constant companion is he. Finally, I sing because I’m glad and free; For his eye is on the sparrow, and I know he is keeping an eye on me. 2 My heart is soothed by his kind words, and as I rest my mind on his goodness, I am free of my doubts and anxieties.

  1. -1 What can I do if I’m feeling down?
  2. What can I do to avoid feeling alone in the midst of suffering?
  3. The journey to Christ continues unabated, and every one of his bondadespor has always had something to give, and every one of his bondadespor has always had something to give.

Civilla Durfee, Martin, Civilla Durfee (Jordan Falls, Nova Scotia, August 21, 1866-March 9, 1948, Atlanta, Georgia). Holden, Irene (Harding) Holden’s daughter, was born in New York City. She tied the knot with Rev. John F. Geddes, a Congregational preacher from Coventryvillee, New York, on May 19, 1891, at Jordan Falls Methodist Church in Shelbourne County, Nova Scotia. So yet, there is no information regarding their marriage or how it came to an end. Soon after, she married Baptist pastor Walter Stillman Martin and joined him on evangelistic trips around the country.

However, due to her deteriorating health, she was constrained to spend the most of her time at home.

They joined the Christian Church in 1916 and have been members ever since (Disciples of Christ). A.G. Martin was the couple’s only child. In her work, she solely used her first and last names. Go to the person’s profile page.

My Portion (feat. Zac Hicks), by Advent Birmingham

I’d drank my way to the bottom of every cistern, but I still wanted more, I really needed more. However, these fleeting pleasures never satisfy me; I want nothing more, I want nothing more. You’re my share of the pie. And you are sufficient. You’re my share of the pie. And you are sufficient. Please help me believe it. That you are sufficient Be my bread and my cup forever and ever. I looked for every remedy for all of my aches and pains; I wanted more, I wanted more. However, these luxuries will never be able to cure my pain; I want nothing more, I want nothing more; I want nothing more, I want nothing more.

  1. And you are sufficient.
  2. And you are sufficient.
  3. That you are sufficient Be my bread and my cup forever and ever.
  4. Let Jesus take up my portion; Jesus, take up my portion.
  5. Let Jesus take up my portion; Jesus, take up my portion.
  6. Let Jesus take up my portion; Jesus, take up my portion.

Let Jesus take up my portion; Jesus, take up my portion. You’re my share of the pie. And you are sufficient. You’re my share of the pie. And you are sufficient. Please assist me in believing that you are sufficient. Be my bread and my cup forever and ever.

Jesus Is My Portion

Will you be able to assist me in some way? Fill a cup with water, no matter where you are. After that, squeeze it in your hand for 30 seconds. What does it feel like? Most likely, it will not be that hefty. Now, attempt to hold the same cup for an hour straight. I am confident that you will not take such a drastic step. I get what you’re saying. I wouldn’t do that either. In the unlikely event that I asked you to keep that cup in your hand for two days without putting it down, you would think I was insane.

This artwork was shared during a Student Ministers’ Conference last week, which I attended.

Then one day might stretch into several days, and before we realize it, months or even years have gone by.

I’m completely spent and depleted.

As Christians, we use phrases like “Jesus is more than enough” and “Jesus is my portion” to express our faith.

If Jesus is our share, He is sufficient to deal with any and all of our difficulties.

If Jesus is our portion, He has the ability to transform our lives.

If Jesus is our remedy, then He provides us with the ability to conquer sin.

As long as Jesus is our portion, He will provide opportunities for us to show forgiveness to others.

If Jesus is our portion, He has the ability to offer us patience and joy even in the most difficult of circumstances.

If Jesus is our portion, I will gladly lay down my life in order to serve Him and His kingdom.

If Jesus is our portion, then He is also my recompense in this life.

“Although my flesh and my heart may fail, God is the strength of my heart and the portion of my inheritance forever.” When I asked you to hold the cup for an extended amount of time before, you may have thought I was crazy since it seemed silly.

As a matter of fact, it is absurd to believe that we can continue to carry the weight of our problems and baggage without it having an impact on our lives.

Jesus urges us to hand our burdens over to Him and let Him take care of them.

“Cast your weight upon the Lord, and He will maintain you; He will never allow the upright to be shaken,” says Psalm 55:22.

He brings freedom and hope to those who believe in him. He is close at hand. Jesus is more than sufficient. “Jesus is my portion,” I will purposefully say and demonstrate in my life. Will you do it?
