What Jesus Himself Teaches About Salvation

Following solely Jesus’ own words, this lecture discusses the principles of salvation that the Lord Himself taught about. 28min Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teachings of Christ does not have God; nevertheless, the one who abides in the teachings has both the Father and the Son; anyone who does not abide in the teachings does not have God. – II – 1 John 1:9 (New International Version) The most essential conversation we can ever have with someone is the one that deals with the question of salvation – specifically, how does one become a Christian.

Even within Christianity, not all adherents believe in the same thing when it comes to the nature of redemption.

Due to the fact that not everyone believes the same thing about salvation, let us study what Jesus Himself teaches about salvation using just His words spoken on the subject in order to clarify the matter in our own thoughts and therefore speak with one voice and one message.

That was uttered by Jesus.

One must come to Him for salvation

The first and most important thing that one must do in order to be saved is to turn to Christ; no other person or object can achieve this for them. At the end of Acts 4:12, Peter affirms the exclusivity of the Christian religion, stating that there is no space for anybody other but Jesus Christ. The only other person who can provide us with salvation is Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among mankind by which we must be saved.” As a result, no one else in history has ever done for mankind what Christ has done in terms of salvation and redemption.

No one else has promised his followers a conscious, joyous, guaranteed, and eternal existence, and no one else has performed miracles to back up those claims more than Jesus Christ.

That was uttered by Jesus.

Faith is necessary for salvation

9His followers started to interrogate Him about the significance of this tale. tenAnd He added, “To you, it has been permitted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God; nevertheless, to the rest, it has been revealed in parables, so that they may not see and hear and understand.11″Now the parable is as follows: the seed represents the word of God. 12 These are the people who have received the word; yet, the devil comes and snatches the word away from their hearts, so that they will not believe and be saved.- Luke 8:9-12 As soon as we know that salvation is found only in Christ and that it can be obtained only through Him, we must trust that everything He says is correct.

Jesus shows us the utmost respect as human beings by enabling us to use our free choice in matters of salvation, and by including faith as one of the requirements for salvation (You need free will to believe).

God the Son achieved everything on the cross, yet the Divinity of God gives opportunity for our faith to bring it to a successful conclusion.

The act of saying “yes” to the Eternal God is not difficult, yet without that “yes,” the plan, the preparation, and the redeeming work of Christ are all for nothing. Jesus declares that in order to be saved, we must first believe! That was uttered by Jesus.

Repentance is necessary for salvation

Upon reaching the location, Jesus raised his eyes to him and said, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must remain at your house,” in a commanding tone. 6And he hurriedly hastened down to meet Him and welcomed Him with open arms. They all began to murmur when they saw what had happened. They said, “He has gone to be the guest of a guy who is a sinner.” 8Zaccheus came to a complete halt and addressed the Lord, saying, “Behold, Lord, half of my wealth will be given to the needy, and if I have deceived anybody of anything, I will repay them four times as much.” 9And Jesus responded to him by saying, “Because he, too, is a descendant of Abraham, salvation has come to this household today, as well.

  • 10For the Son of Man has come to seek and to rescue those who have been separated from God.” – Luke 19:5-10 (KJV) Rather than using the term repentance, the author portrays the attitude of true repentance in the narrative.
  • When we repent, we go from being lovers of ourselves, sin, and the things of this world to becoming lovers of God, righteousness, and the lost in this world.
  • In Mark 8:34-35, Jesus summarizes the mindset of the people.
  • Although difficult, repentance is the beautiful experience of watching our old life fade away as we wish more and more to know, do, and be solely what Christ wants us to know, do, and be as he desires us to know, do, and become.
  • What is referred to call faith is nothing more than a sham religious observance.

You must be baptized for salvation

It is only those who have believed and been baptized who will be saved; however, those who have disbelieved will be damned. – Matthew 16:16 Self-denial begins with immersion in the waters of baptism, which is the first step. Baptism is required for salvation for a variety of reasons, including the following:

  • Our sins are forgiven when we are baptized. -Acts 2:38
  • We receive the Holy Spirit at the time of baptism. -Acts 2:38
  • When we are baptized, we are welcomed into the church. -Acts 2:47
  • We put on Christ when we are baptized. The Bible says that we are saved at baptism (Galatians 3:26). The Bible says this in I Peter 3:21.

For the sake of simple logic, it follows that in order to be saved, one must first be forgiven and then receive the Holy Spirit, become a member of the church, and finally, be in Christ. If all of these things occur at baptism, then baptism is required for salvation because these things do not occur without baptism and we cannot be saved unless these things occur. However, the most important reason why baptism is required for salvation is that Jesus mandates it, and He commands it in conjunction with one’s own personal salvation in the first place.

While it is true that we are saved by faith, that faith must be expressed via our will, and Jesus teaches that this manifestation of our will / our faith is done by baptism.

Jesus, not the church or theologians, is the one who determines where the boundary is drawn. Jesus stated that this was necessary in order to be saved.

You must endure to the end

Because of My name, you will be despised by everyone, but it is the one who has persevered to the end who will be rewarded with salvation. The Bible says in Matthew 10:22 Throughout this text (as well as Matthew 24:33; Mark 13:3-23), Jesus is instructing His followers on two apocalyptic catastrophes that occurred:

  • Apocalyptic events such as the destruction of Jerusalem, which would occur within their lifetimes His second coming, which may occur at any time
  • And his resurrection.

The lesson for both occurrences, however, was the same: only those who remained faithful until the end would be rescued, regardless of the circumstances. He attempted to prepare them for what was to come by revealing some of the hardships they would have to experience in these chapters. His disciples will be subjected to the following:

  • Persecution, brutality, and suffering
  • Family disintegration
  • False instructors and hypocrites are around. Unrest in the social and environmental spheres
  • Many members of the church have demonstrated unfaithfulness and a lack of love.

These things, however, are not legitimate reasons for drifting away (as many believe, believing that God would overlook their unfaithfulness because they have a good justification – No, these things are and always will be hurdles we must conquer in order to achieve the goal). It is only those who complete the Christian race who are saved.

Why this sermon?

My guess is that the majority of those in attendance today were aware of what I had to say, but I wanted to double-check three things:

  1. Ensuring that everyone is completely convinced of what Jesus Himself has to say about redemption – both for their own souls and for the souls of others with whom they will come into contact ensure that our congregation and any those who come to visit us are aware of our fundamental teachings on this fundamental topic, so order to avoid any misunderstandings about our theology
  2. And As a method of pushing individuals present today to examine themselves and determine whether or not they have been saved, and if they have not, to take steps to rectify the situation

Believe in Christ and confess His name if you haven’t. Repent of your sins if you haven’t. Be baptized (immersed in water) if you haven’t. Be faithful, or return to being faithful if you haven’t. Finally, I add one last reason for this lesson and that is to encourage anyone here to ask for prayer if they need the help of the church or identify with this congregation if they wish to extend the hand of fellowship to us. 1″I am the genuine vine, and my Father is the gardener,” says the Son of David. That is one of the reasons why the rest of the world despises you.

If they harassed me, it is likely that they will persecute you as well.

21They will treat you in this manner because of my name, since they do not know who sent me to tell you this.

23Whoever hates me also hates my Father, and vice versa.

As things are, they have witnessed, and yet they continue to despise both me and my Father.

You, as well, must testify, because you have been with me since the beginning of this journey.

What Did Jesus Say about Salvation?

Who is it that Jesus claims to be the source of his salvation? “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” Christ declared in John 14:6, referring to himself. “There is no other way to the Father but through Me.” John 6:63b confirms that Jesus’ words are both spirit and life: “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” According to Jesus, what is required for someone to be saved is as follows: The following is what Jesus said in Luke 9:23–26: “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” In other words, whomever seeks to preserve his or her life will lose it, but whoever loses his or her life for My cause will gain it back.

To what end does it serve a man to obtain the entire world while simultaneously being destroyed or lost himself?

According to Christ’s declaration in John 8:58, “I tell to you with absolute certainty that before Abraham was, I AM.” The following is what Jesus said in Matthew 10:32–33: “Therefore, whomever confesses Me before men, him I will likewise confess before My Father who is in heaven.” Nevertheless, whomever denies Me in front of mankind, I will also deny before My heavenly Father.” In Luke 5:32, Jesus declared, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” (cf.

Matt 9:13; 18:11; Luke 19:9–10; John 3:17; 12:47).

“I tell you, no,” Christ said (Luke 13:3, 5).

What did Jesus have to say about being addressed as “Lord” and about salvation?

The following is what Jesus said in Mark 7:20–23: “What comes out of a person defiles a person.” Because evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deception, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and folly all spring from within and out of the hearts of people, according to the Bible.

The following is what Jesus revealed in Matthew 7:13–14: “Enter by the narrow gate; because wide is the gate and broad is the path that goes to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.” Because the entrance to life is small and the road to life is tough, and only a select few are fortunate enough to find it.” When someone asked Jesus, “Lord, are there just a few who are saved?” Jesus answered in Luke 13:23–24, “Lord, are there only a few who are saved?” In response, He replied to them, “Make every effort to enter through the small gate; for many will desire to enter but will be unable.” What will happen to those who have lost their way yet continue to commit evil?

  1. “The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, as well as those who practice lawlessness, and they will toss them into the furnace of fire,” Jesus stated in Matthew 13:41–42.

What Did Jesus Teach about Salvation?

No one occurrence of Christ use the wordSavioras in reference to Himself has been recorded in the Scriptures. It is recorded in the Gospels that He used the wordsalvation only on two occasions: once, when speaking to a Samaritan woman, He said to her, “salvation is from the Jews,” by which He most clearly meant that, according to God’s plan, it was the Jewish people who would bring the Messiah Savior; and once, when speaking to Zacchaeus, He said to him, “Today is salvation come to this house.” Nevertheless, while it is true that He never used the word Savior and that we only have records of His use of the word salvation on two separate occasions, the verb to save was a word that He used on a consistent basis, both in the material and moral domains.

  • This reality is slightly obscured by our translations.
  • Indeed, the term “salvation” is imprinted on the pages of all of the accounts of Jesus’ life and teaching; He was continually preaching of the necessity of salvation.
  • We talk about the need of preserving property; he never did.
  • As an illustration, we will use the story of Zacchaeus as a starting point.
  • The fact that the guy was exposed as “a son of Abraham” served as evidence that redemption had arrived.
  • Christ said that salvation had arrived at the house.
  • Jesus did not realize his sonship until he performed the actions that were the result of his confidence in the Father.
  • Christ stated of this guy, who had given up ill-gotten possessions and returned to the path of righteousness; who had been morally reformed, and who had demonstrated his moral reconstruction with a good act, “That is a son of Abraham.” This house has been visited by salvation today.
  • Then, according to the teachings of Christ, salvation is the total transformation from one state to its polar opposite.

Those who succumb to sin will perish both physically and eternally, but Christians are guaranteed of eternal life in the presence of Christ. In other words, wages imply that the punishment for sin is based on what one has earned and deserves. When it comes to following God’s commands, the Philippians have done so before (cf. Christ’s obedience, Phil. 2:8) and should continue to do so as they work out their salvation with dread and trepidation. They cannot rest on their laurels from the past, but must exhibit their faith on a daily basis as they work to strengthen their connection with God. Despite the fact that God’s justice is a source of sobriety (“fear and trembling”), Paul does not intend for the Philippians to be concerned that they will never be good enough to deserve God’s favor.

Jesus’ claim to be the only way to the Father is fulfilled by the Old Testament symbols and teachings that demonstrate the exclusivity of God’s claim, such as the curtain (Ex. 26:33) that barred access to God’s presence from all but the Levitical high priest (Lev. 16), the rejection of human inventions as means of approaching God (Lev. 10:2), and the selection of Aaron alone to represent Israel before God in his sanctuary (Lev. 10:3). It is for this reason that Paul is so enthusiastic about preaching the gospel everywhere: the gospel is the saving power of God, and it is through the gospel that the righteousness of God is revealed. Christians may be inclined to feel ashamed of the Christian message because of their small stature, lack of recognition, and lack of respect in the Roman halls of power and influence, and this is understandable. However, according to Paul, there is nothing to be embarrassed of because it is in reality a message sent by the power of God that draws people to redemption.

The Jews’ place in Romans is a big issue, as seen by the discussion in Romans chapters 9–11, which is particularly poignant. The term “Greek” does not apply to only persons from Greece, but rather to all Gentiles.

5. John 1:12–13

Receive him does not imply only intellectual agreement with specific facts about Jesus, but rather the welcoming and submission of one’s own self to him in an intimate personal connection. “Believed in” (Gk.pisteu eis) is a term that denotes personal confidence. “His name” refers to all that is true about him and, as a result, to the entirety of his personality. The phrase “Born, not of blood., but of God” makes it plain that neither physical birth nor ethnic ancestry nor human effort can make humans children of God; only God’s miraculous action can do this (John 8:41–47; see also John 3:16–17).

In the Bible, the term “sealed” can refer to either the fact that the Holy Spirit protects and preserves Christians until they reach their inheritance (see Ephesians 4:30; 2 Corinthians 1:22; 1 Peter 1:5; and Rev. 7:2–3) or the fact that he “certifies” the authenticity of their acceptance by God as genuine—they bear the “royal seal” of approval (see John 3:33; Acts 10:44, 47). The first view appears to be the most appropriate in this case, yet both interpretations are biblically correct. Due to God’s mighty work in redemption, he pours forth his Holy Spirit on everyone of his children in order to guarantee (or to offer a “down payment” on) their portion in his eternal kingdom (also known as a “down payment”).

With this exposition of the necessity for spiritual rebirth, John builds on his earlier references to “children of God” who are “born of God” (John 1:12–13; compare. also John 8:39–58; John 11:51–52; Luke 1:35–36). In John 3:5, the phrase “born of water and the Spirit” alludes to spiritual birth, which cleanses the individual from sin and brings about spiritual change and regeneration in the individual’s life. It seems unlikely that the water in this passage relates to the water of physical birth, nor that it alludes to the water of baptism.

Due to God’s great love for the world, he sent his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. In other words, God did not bring his Son into the world in order to condemn the world, but in order that the world may be rescued by him and his sacrifice. 9. Titus 2:11–14

The reason why Christians should live in this manner is because (or because of) the grace of God that saves also educates those who receive it to live in a new way. Someone who is a true beneficiary of saving grace must also be a student of “training grace” in order to be considered fully saved. Because of the atonement (Titus 2:14) and the prospect of Christ’s return, this change in way of life is anchored in the gospel of grace (Titus 2:13). Some people interpret the phrase “bringing salvation” to all people to indicate that all people will be saved.

  1. However, such an interpretation is not required here and is in direct contradiction to other passages of Scripture.
  2. Saving grace teaches those who receive it to say “no” to sin and “yes” to holiness in their lives.
  3. It also establishes an allusion to Christ’s future return, which will be discussed later (Titus 2:13).
