Athletes in Action Basketball’s Director of Development and Training Morris Michalski recently shared this verse with me during an in-person conversation.
He informed me that the verse goes far beyond the common interpretation, which is particularly true among people involved in sports.
We compared that to something I read about the Ohio State Buckeyes, who were the NCAA football national champions, having inscribed on all of their wristbands: E plus R equals O.

It is an acronym that stands for ″Event + Response = Outcome.″ This equation, which is based on Philippians 4:13, says that no matter what circumstances (the event) I am faced with, I can respond with the power that Christ provides.This does not just imply that I am capable of overcoming misfortune; it also implies that I have peace in the midst of difficulties and hope in the face of despair, both of which can only come from one source: Jesus.It is always God’s glory when we respond to the circumstances of our life with Christ at the center of our thoughts and actions.I certainly fall short of this, and I frequently react to circumstances based on my emotions rather than on the teachings of Christ.
