Jesus Said It Is Finished What Does That Mean?

What did Jesus mean when He said, “It is finished”?

Answer to the question ″It is finished,″ says Christ on the cross, and there is no other phrase that is more vital or more dramatic than this one.The Greek phrase istetelestai, which is translated as ″it is done,″ is used exclusively in the Gospel of John and is an accounting term that implies ″paid in full.″ As soon as Jesus spoke those words, He was proclaiming that the debt owed to His Father had been entirely and permanently discharged. But it wasn’t so much that Jesus took away any obligation that He owed to the Father as it was that Jesus erased the debt that people owed to the Father—the debt of sin.

Immediately prior to His arrest by the Romans, Jesus performed His final public prayer, imploring the Father to honor Him in the same way that He had glorified the Father on earth, having ″completed the task you have given me to accomplish″ (John 17:4).According to Luke 19:10, the mission of Jesus was to ″seek and rescue that which is lost,″ to atone for the sins of those who would ever believe in Him (Romans 3:23-25), and to bring sinful humanity back into right relationship with a holy God.″All of this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and entrusted us with the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself through Christ, and that God was not counting men’s sins against them.″ As well as the message of reconciliation, Jesus has dedicated himself to us″ (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).

No one else except God in the flesh was capable of accomplishing such a feat. The fulfillment of all Old Testament prophesies, symbolism, and foreshadowings of the future Messiah was also accomplished at this time as well.Throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Malachi, there are over 300 specific prophesies that point to the arrival of the Anointed One, all of which were fulfilled by Jesus. All prophecies of Jesus’ life, ministry, and death were fulfilled and completed at the cross, beginning with the ″seed″ who would crush the serpent’s head in Genesis 3:15, continuing with the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53, and concluding with the prediction of the ″messenger of the Lord″ (John the Baptist) who would ″prepare the way″ for the Messiah (Luke 1:35).Despite the fact that the redemption of mankind is the most essential completed work, the cross also completed a number of other tasks.

The trials and tribulations that Jesus faced while on earth, and especially during His last hours, were finally finished.God’s desire for Jesus was carried out via His flawless obedience to the Father in the person of Jesus (John 5:30; 6:38).Most significantly, the power of sin and Satan had been extinguished for all time. The ″flaming arrows of the wicked one″ would no longer be a threat to mankind’s survival (Ephesians 6:16).We may live as new creations in Christ by placing our trust in the One who accomplished the work of redemption and salvation, and by doing so, we can raise the ″shield of faith.″ Those who were formerly ″dead in trespasses and sins″ but have now been made ″alive with Christ″ might thank Jesus for his accomplished work on the cross, which marked the beginning of their new life (Ephesians 2:1, 5).Return to the previous page: Do you have any questions about John?

What is the Meaning and Significance of ″It is Finished″? Jesus’ Words in John 19:30

In John 19:30, one of the very last words said by Jesus on the cross is ″It is finished.″ It is one of the most profound and emotional statements ever spoken.John 19:30 is the only place where the phrase ″It is completed″ may be found. The Greek phrase for ″it is done″ is tetelestai, which is an accounting term that means ″it has been paid in full.″ In the words ″It is completed,″ Jesus is stating that the debt due by man to his Creator as a result of Adam’s transgression has been fully and permanently discharged.

With the words ″it is finished,″ Jesus is stating that not only does He take away man’s sin, but that He has now removed it as far as the east is from the west, because it has been completed, completed, signed, and sealed because of the blood of Jesus.

None But Jesus Can Say It Is Finished

Prior to His arrest by the Romans, Jesus recited His final public prayer, in which He requested the Father to honor Him in the same way that He had glorified the Father before His imprisonment. He prayed for the ability to ″complete the task you have given me to perform″ (John 17:4).The job of Jesus is to seek and rescue those who are lost (Luke 19:10), as well as to give atonement for sinners who have been reconciled to God by his death on the cross (Romans 3:23-25; 2 Corinthians 5:18-19).

″It is completed,″ says the God-Man with the authority of the God-Man, for no one else but the Lord God could complete the task (John 19:30).

The Meaning if ″It is Finished″

Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophesy of the Old Testament. With the words ″It is completed″ (John 19:30), Jesus brought all of the Old Testament prophesies, symbolism, and foreshadowings about Himself to a successful conclusion. It is written in the Bible that from the beginning of Genesis to the conclusion of Malachi, there are 300 specific predictions regarding the Anointed One Jesus, all of which are fulfilled by Him.

Throughout Scripture, from the ″seed″ who would crush the serpent’s head in Genesis 3:15, through the Suffering Servant, there is a theme of suffering (Isaiah 53).Even the prophecy of the messenger of the Lord was fulfilled by John the Baptist, who would clear the way for the arrival of Jesus on the scene. The Lord Jesus’ life, ministry, and death fulfilled and completed all of the prophesies that had been spoken about him.

Further Commentary on John 19:30

John Gills explains: ″He stated that it was completed.″ ″that is, the entire will of God, such as that he should become incarnate, be exposed to shame and reproach, suffer greatly, and die; the entire work his Father assigned him to do, which was to preach the Gospel, work miracles, and obtain eternal salvation for his people, all of which had been completed, or was nearly completed; the entire righteousness of the law had been fulfilled, a holy nature assumed, perfect obedience yielded to it, and the penalty of death endured; and thus a perfect righteousness had as well as redemption from its curse and condemnation were obtained; sin was put to an end, as well as full atonement and satisfaction for it; complete pardon was procured, peace was established, and redemption from all iniquity obtained; all enemies were defeated; all types, promises, and prophecies were fulfilled, as well as his own course of life came to an end: It was because all this was on the verge of being completed, and was as good as finished; and it was certain, certain, and so complete that nothing needed, or could be added to it; and it was done entirely without the assistance of man, and cannot be undone; all of which has since been more clearly revealed by Christ’s resurrection from the dead, entrance into heaven, session at God’s right hand, declaration of the Gospel, and application of salvation.a.″

What John 19:30 Means for Us

Jesus’ words of completion on the cross indicate that He has provided the sole remedy to man’s sin as well as the only road to God via His sacrifice on the cross (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).The death of Christ is the sole means by which Christians may put their sins to death and put on the righteousness of Christ (Colossians 3:5-14).Christians are not expected to subdue sin in a weekend (Romans 7:13-25), but rather to despise and fight it, employing the God-given resources of grace to do so (Romans 12:1-8).

Because of their oneness with Christ, even when the people of God fail, they are not subject to judgment as a result (Romans 8:1-4).Although this is the case, they must confess their wrongdoing to Jesus, who is trustworthy and righteous in forgiving them and restoring their connection with Him (1 John 1:9).Christians should not be concerned about bodily or eternal death (Hebrews 2:14-15).

Because Jesus’ work is complete, the Kingdom of Jesus has triumphed over the Kingdom of Satan. As recorded in Luke 11:21-22 and Revelation 20:1-2, Jesus has chained the strong man and looted his home, creating a route to heaven, where He is currently preparing a place for His followers (John 14:1-3).

Jesus’ Victory over Death is Final

Jesus vanquished death in principle via His death and resurrection, and with His conclusive victory over death, He has now triumphed over death and the tomb.Despite this, bodily and spiritual death are prevalent, which is why the people of God lament until the Lord releases creation from its shackles of rot and decaying (Romans 8:18-24).While there is a great deal to say about Jesus’ accomplished work, it is vital to point out a couple of additional points.

The pain that Jesus underwent while on earth was finally brought to an end when He exclaimed, ″It is finished.″ Because of Jesus’ absolute obedience to the Father, the Father’s desire for him was fully fulfilled on the cross (John 5:30; 6:38).The power of sin and Satan was defeated at the time of Jesus’ declaration, ″It is done.″ Having accomplished our redemption, the Lord who completed our redemption now empowers His people to live as new creations in Him by raising the ″shield of faith.″ In Christ, everyone who were previously ″dead″ because of their trespasses and sins are now ″alive with Christ″ as a result of His accomplished work on the cross (Ephesians 2:13).(Ephesians 2:5).

The Crucifixion of Jesus — His Last Words on the Cross

During Jesus’ mission, a large number of Jews came to believe that He was the Son of God.The Jewish authorities were terrified of Jesus, and the Roman troops apprehended him with the assistance of Judas Iscariot.Jesus was then placed on trial for claiming to be the Jewish monarch, which resulted in his execution.

Death by crucifixion was the punishment for rebelling against Caesar under Roman law in the first century AD.At the time of Jesus’ arrest, Pontius Pilate served as the governor.Pilate was apprehensive when it came to punishing Jesus since he could find nothing wrong with Him.

Nonetheless, in order to appease the populace and prevent the outbreak of a riot, Pilate gave the people what they desired, namely, the murder of Jesus. After washing his hands in front of the assembled audience, Pilate said that he was not responsible for the bloodshed that had taken place. When Jesus refused to submit, Pilate ordered that he be beaten and lashed instead.Jesus was beaten and forced to carry the cross to Golgotha, the location of the skull, where He died.A crown of thorns was placed on His head, and He was forced to die.

Thousands of people gathered to Golgotha to witness Jesus’ death.Jesus was put on a cross between two criminals and wounded by a sword while on the cross.Even when Jesus was being ridiculed, one of the convicts approached Jesus and requested him to remember him (Luke 23:42), and Jesus obliged (Luke 23:43).Jesus then raised his eyes to the heavens, pleading with God to ″forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing″ (Luke 23:34).After taking his final breath, Jesus exclaimed, ″Father, into your hands I submit my soul; it is accomplished″ (Luke 23:46).

The Last 7 Words of Jesus

1.″Father, pardon them, for they are completely unaware of what they are doing″ (Luke 23:34).2.

″Truly, I tell to you, today you shall be with me in paradise,″ the narrator states (Luke 23:43).3.″Women, have a look at your son.

″Look, son, there’s your mother″ (John 19:26-27).″My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?″ says the narrator. It is written in the Bible (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34).5.″I’m a thirsty person″ (John 19:28).

6.″It has been completed″ (John 19:30).When he finished speaking, Jesus exclaimed with a resounding voice: ″Father, into your hands I submit my spirit!″ As soon as he finished speaking, he passed away (Luke 23:46).iStock/Getty Images Plus/mbolina is credited with this image Dave Jenkins and his wife, Sarah Jenkins, are in a happy marriage. He is a writer, editor, and public speaker who resides in the lovely state of Oregon.

″It Is Finished″: True Meaning of 7 Last Words of Jesus on the Cross

Every Christian is aware that the Lord Jesus declared, ″It is finished,″ when He was hanging on the cross, but what exactly did He mean when He said ″It is completed″ remains unclear. Some brothers and sisters believe that the Lord’s words ″It is finished″ demonstrate that God’s work to save mankind has been completed and that He will no longer perform any work of salvation; however, there are some brothers and sisters who believe that the Lord’s words ″It is finished″ only demonstrate that His great work of redemption has been completed, and not that God will no longer perform any work of salvation after that…Let’s have a look at what the genuine meaning of the words ″It is completed″ stated by the Lord Jesus actually is today and examine it together.

Everyone knows that, toward the conclusion of the Age of Law, because mankind was becoming increasingly corrupted by Satan and unable to uphold the law, they were all in risk of being put to death by the government. As part of His plan to rescue mankind from sin, the Lord Jesus took on flesh, cured the sick and drove out devils, and bestowed on mankind an unending supply of grace. He was ultimately killed for the sins of mankind, He offered His holy body as a sin sacrifice, and He redeemed mankind from his or her sins.

Afterwards, as long as we had faith in the Lord and confessed our faults to Him, our sins would be forgiven, and we would be able to benefit from the grace that the Lord had lavished upon us.Humanity was also no longer to be put to death by the law, and we were given the opportunity to continue living.″It is completed,″ stated the Lord Jesus, in reference to the completion of His work on the cross. One thing that is undeniable is that, despite the fact that we have accepted the Lord Jesus’ salvation and that our sins have been forgiven, our sinful nature still exists, and we continue to live in a cycle of daily sin and nightly repentance in which we are completely incapable of breaking free from the bonds of sin.Examples include the fact that we frequently tell lies and commit sins, that we have greedy desires and wicked thoughts, that we can be jealous of and hate others, that our hearts are filled with arrogance, deceit and deception, and that we are even capable of following worldly trends, lusting after riches and coveting vanity, and that when we experience trials and tribulations, we even blame God, and so on.

″For the wages of sin is death,″ according to the Bible (Romans 6:23).″Without holiness, no one will see the Lord,″ says the Bible (Hebrews 12:14).″Truly, truly, I say to you, whomever commits sin is a servant of sin,″ the Lord Jesus declared to his followers.″And the servant does not remain in the home forever, but the son remains in the house forever″ (John 8:34–35).″You must understand the sort of people I want; those who are unclean are not permitted to join the kingdom, and those who are impure are not authorized to bring dishonor upon the sacred land,″ God says.Despite the fact that you may have put in a lot of effort and worked for many years, if you are still deplorably filthy at the end of the day, it will be unacceptable to the law of Heaven that you attempt to join My kingdom!

  1. From the beginning of time to the present day, I have never granted easy admission to My realm to those who have earned My favor via their actions.
  2. Everyone must follow the rules of God’s kingdom; no one can breach them!″ God is holy, and His disposition is just; no dirty individuals are permitted to join His kingdom.
  3. In other words, if we have just had our crimes forgiven, if our wicked nature has not been uprooted, and if we are still capable of committing sins and fighting God, we shall be deemed ineligible to meet with God or to come into His kingdom, as determined by God’s righteous disposition.
  4. In the beginning, the humanity that God created was pure and unblemished.
  5. They lived in the Garden of Eden, they listened to God’s instructions, and they adored the Creator of the universe.
  6. When Adam and Eve were tricked by the snake and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they were corrupted by Satan, who used them as tools in his wicked plot.
  • So that man may be saved from the realm of Satan and be enabled to separate themselves from sin and be purified, God devised a plan to save humanity and began working to save man, one stage at a time, from the domain of Satan.
  • As an example, God gave mankind the law by means of Moses, and He guided them throughout their lives on earth so that they would understand what sin was and how to make sacrifices; later, in response to the needs of corrupt mankind, God began the Age of Grace, the Lord Jesus took on flesh, He revealed to man the way of repentance, and He was crucified for man’s sake, thereby redeeming man from sin.
  • In spite of this, our sinful nature continues to persist, and we continue to live in an endless loop of sinning and confessing, unable to break free.
  • In the absence of cleansing, we are unworthy of entering God’s kingdom, and we still require God to complete a further stage of redemption on our behalf.
  • ″I still have many things to say to you, but you are unable to handle them at this time,″ the Lord Jesus predicted.
  • ″However, when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak of Himself, but whatever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.″ ″However, when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth, for He shall not speak of Himself, but whatever He shall hear, that shall He speak.″ (See also John 16:12–13.) ″And if any man hears My words and does not believe them, I will not condemn him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.″ When someone turns their backs on Me and refuses to listen to My words, he has one who judges him: ″The word that I have spoken will condemn him in the final day,″ Jesus says in John 12:47–48.
  • The Bible foretold that ″the hour has come for judgment to begin at the home of God,″ which means ″the house of God.″ Peter (4:17) explains what he means by this.

We can see clearly from these predictions that, when the Lord returns in the end days, He will speak the truth and begin the process of judgment at God’s home, which will be the first place He will visit. That is, He will come to completely purify and save man; He will uproot the sin that exists inside man and provide the means for man to put off sin and be purified, allowing us to achieve real salvation and enter God’s kingdom. All of God’s management plan’s job will be completed only when this occurs. This exactly corresponds to the prophecy contained in the Book of Revelation: ″It has been completed.

I am the beginning and the end, the beginning and the end.I will give freely to anybody who is thirsty for the drink of life from the spring of life. That which is gained by victory will be passed on to the next generation; I will be his God, and he will be my son.Revelation 21:6–8 states that ″the fearful and unbelieving, as well as the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, as well as sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their share in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, this is the second death″ (Revelation 21:6–8; 22:6).God will ultimately guide all those who have endured judgment and punishment, as well as those who have repented of their sins and gained purity, into His kingdom, where they will receive eternal benefits from the Almighty.

  • Those who have not been purified by God’s work of judgment, however, and who are still utterly filthy and corrupt, who are still filled with the corrupt dispositions of Satan, and who are capable of resisting God, will be weeded out and destroyed, and their bodies will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where they will burn forever.
  • After that, and only then, can the words ″It is done″ be fully realized.
  • As the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, God’s knowledge and understanding much outweigh our own.
  • How can we humans comprehend His creation?
  • When confronted with God’s work, we as created creatures should do nothing more than accept and follow it.

Because the Pharisees stuck to their own misunderstandings and refused to recognize the Lord Jesus’ work in those early days, they ended up forfeiting their opportunity to be redeemed by God.The Pharisees were right in their assumptions, and if we continue to rely on our misconceptions and fantasies and believe that, by saying ″It is finished,″ the Lord Jesus meant that God’s salvation work was completely completed and that we don’t need to accept God’s work of judgment, which will begin in God’s house during these final days, we will be following in their footsteps.Because of this, we will not be able to greet the Lord’s coming, and we will be completely shut out of God’s salvation in the final days.In addition, we will be weeded out and abandoned.″Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you,″ the Lord Jesus once said to his disciples (Matthew 7:7).

  1. ″Blessed are the poor in spirit, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven,″ the Bible says (Matthew 5:3).
  2. The Lord is loyal and just, and He does not favor anyone; He bestows His benefits on those who seek Him with an open mind and who concentrate on listening to His voice, and He does not favor anyone.
  3. Our only hope of receiving the Lord’s enlightenment and direction is to let go of our own preconceptions about topics we don’t fully comprehend while also praying and seeking additional information.
  4. Only in this way will we be able to embrace the Lord’s second coming.

12 Reasons Why Jesus Meant It When He Said, “It Is Finished” — Beautiful Christian Life

Christians should never believe that their good deeds or efforts contribute in any manner to their justification or salvation. The good news is that there are twelve compelling reasons why Jesus truly meant it when he stated, ″It is finished″ (John 19:30).

1. Jesus—being true God and true human—was the perfect, once for all sacrifice for sin.

And the Word became man and lived among us, and we have beheld his glory, glory befitting the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth, as we have witnessed his incarnation.(See also John 1:14) Because Christ has entered into heaven itself, not into holy sanctuaries constructed by human hands that are mere replicas of the actual things, but into heaven itself in order to appear before God on our behalf. Not only was it not possible for him to give himself repeatedly, as the high priest accesses the sacred places every year using other people’s blood, but it was also not possible since he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the beginning of time.

However, as things stand, he has appeared once and for all at the end of the centuries to atone for sin by offering himself as a sacrifice.(9:24-26; Hebrews 9:24-26)

2. Only Jesus kept the law fully—he was the true Son of Israel who loved God and his neighbor perfectly.

The Prophets and the Law were not abolished by Jesus; rather, they were fulfilled by him.″Do not believe that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.″ (Matthew 5:17; Mark 1:17) So that we could become the righteousness of God in him, he turned him into sin who had no knowledge of sin for our own benefit. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 that Because we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but rather one who has been tempted in every way we are, but has come out unscathed.

(See also Hebrews 4:15)

3. There is nothing we can add to Jesus’ finished work on our behalf.

He is not required to give sacrifices on a regular basis, first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people, as were those high priests, because he completed this task once and for all when he offered himself as a sacrifice.(See also Hebrews 7:27) However, once Christ had given a single sacrifice for all time, he was seated at the right side of the Father, awaiting judgment.(See also Hebrews 10:12) ″Therefore, when you have completed all that you were instructed, you should declare, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only carried out our responsibilities.’″ (See also Luke 17:10)

4. Salvation is God’s gift to us—and so is our faith.

However, the free gift is not the same as the trespass.Since many perished as a result of one man’s wrongdoing, God’s grace and the free gift provided by the grace of that one man, Jesus Christ, have multiplied for countless more.(See also Romans 5:15.) Because you have been rescued by grace through your faith, And this is not your own doing; it is a gift from God, not a result of your efforts, so that no one can take credit for what you have accomplished.

The Bible says (Ephesians 2:8-9)

5. We could not keep the law perfectly because of our sin.

Because we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, we are all condemned.(See also Romans 3:23.) Because God has accomplished what the law, weakened by the flesh, was unable to do.By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, God condemned sin in the flesh, allowing the righteous requirement of the law to be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ.

(Romans 8:3-4; Romans 8:3) Although we understand that a person is not justified by works of the law, but rather by faith in Jesus Christ, we have also placed our faith in Christ Jesus, so that we may receive our justification through faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because no one will be justified by works of the law.In Galatians 2:16, the apostle Paul says,

6. Any necessary works of ours would nullify the grace of God.

However, if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise, grace would cease to be grace and become something else. (See also Romans 11:6) I do not consider God’s grace to be invalidated, since if righteousness could only be obtained by the law, then Christ died in vain. Paul writes in Galatians 2:21 that

7. It is Jesus’ obedience that saves us, not our own.

As a result, just as one act of transgression resulted in the condemnation of all men, so one act of goodness results in the justification and salvation of all mankind.Because, just as many people were made sinners because of one man’s disobedience, many people will be made righteous because of one man’s faithfulness.(See Romans 5:18-19 for more information.) Now it is clear that no one can be justified before God by the law, because the Bible states that ″the righteous shall live by faith.″ Paul writes in Galatians 3:11.

8. Jesus paid our debts in full.

″Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you will really be set free.″ (See also John 8:36) We were all dead in our trespasses and the uncircumcision of our flesh before God raised us up with him, having forgiven us all of our transgressions and annulled the record of debt that stood against us with its legal claims. It was this that he removed from the scene and nailed on the cross.(See Colossians 2:13-14 for further information.)

9. All believers stand justified before God in Jesus Christ alone.

It is also said that trust in the one who does not work, but believes in him who justifies the wicked, is reckoned as righteousness for him.(Romans 4:5).(Romans 4:5).

As a result, because we have been justified by faith, we have been granted peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have also gained access to this grace through trust in him, and we are rejoicing in the prospect of God’s glory as a result of this.(Rom.

5:1-2, emphasis added.) I was crucified with Christ, and I am no longer alive.Instead of me, it is Christ who now lives in me and gives me life.My trust in Jesus Christ, who loved me and gave himself up for me, allows me to live the life I am currently living in the body.Paul writes in Galatians 2:20 that

10. Believers are free from condemnation forever.

Therefore, people who believe in Jesus Christ are no longer under any condemnation whatsoever. You have been set free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death, because the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death.(Rom.

8:1-2, NASB) And I am certain in this: he who began a good work in you will see it through to completion on the day of Jesus Christ, I am certain. In Philippians 1:6, the Bible says It is for this reason that he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified by the giving of a single sacrifice.(See also Hebrews 10:14.)

11. Our fruit is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives, not our own faithfulness.

Stay with me, and I will stay with you.As the branch cannot give fruit on its own unless it is rooted in the vine, neither can you bear fruit on your own unless you are rooted in me.I’m the vine, and you’re the branches on which I grow.

Because you can do nothing apart from me, whomever abides in me and I in him is the one who yields great fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.(See also John 15:4-5.) Moreover, it is not only the creation that groans inwardly, but also we ourselves, who are the firstfruits of the Spirit, who eagerly await our adoption as sons and the redemption of our bodies….Because of his foreknowledge, God also predestined those who would follow in his footsteps to be molded to the image of his Son, in order that he may be the firstborn among many brethren.

(See Romans 8:23 and 29.) Then there’ll be the comment, ″You have faith, and I have works.″ Show me your faith separate from your deeds, and I will demonstrate my faith by my deeds to you.(James 2:18; cf.

12. God has promised to justify—and glorify—every person he has predestined and called.

He also predetermined those who would believe, and those who believed were also justified, and those who were justifiably justified were also praised by God.(1 Corinthians 8:6).(Romans 8:30) And as we all gaze upon the Lord’s glory with an open face, we are converted into the same image, progressing from one degree of splendor to another, as we are transformed into the same image.

Because this comes from the Lord, who is also known as the Spirit.Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 3:18 that

What Did Jesus Mean by “It is Finished?”

This is something I received from a Protestant Christian the other day, and I would think that practically any Catholic who witnesses to his Faith has heard something along these lines. Our Lord on the cross, when he declared, ″It is finished,″ you Catholics refuse to even take into consideration his words in John 19:30, when he stated, ″It is finished.″ In those few words, Jesus affirmed for all time that he had completed on the cross all that was necessary for our redemption. It has been completed!

For our part, all that is required of us is that we put our faith in what he has done for us.Our Lord’s simple words are rendered ineffective by the Catholic Church, which adds to them a priesthood, sacrifice, good deeds, and all the other things that Catholics believe we must do in order to be saved. In response, I would want to emphasize three critical points: First, when it comes to the adequacy of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, the Catholic should agree with his Protestant opponent, according to tradition.

Jesus’ sacrifice, and alone Christ’s sacrifice, is considered infinitely valuable by the Catholic Church, which means that it is capable of appeasing the infinite justice of God by its appeasement of his infinite justice.Another way of putting it is as St.John says:…we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the expiation for our sins, not only for our sins but also for the sins of all people everywhere (I John 2:1-2).The essential question is how God intended for the rewards of that supremely merited sacrifice to be conveyed and applied to the lives of his people.

This is the central question.By divine design, this entails more than just Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.More on that farther down the page: For the second time, the notion that Jesus ″accomplished everything that was necessary for our redemption on the cross,″ at least in a literal sense, is contrary to what is taught by John 19:30 and the Bible as a whole. We can see, for example, that Jesus had already defined precisely what he claimed to have ″completed″ in the circumstances preceding up to this remark of our Lord.Christ’s famous high priestly prayer to the Father for all of humanity was delivered on Holy Thursday, the day before he was to be crucified. He prayed: ″I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work which you gave me to do; and now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory which I had with you before the world was made″ (John 17:4-5).

  1. Jesus claims to have ″completed″ all of the tasks assigned to him by the Father while on earth.
  2. He in no way implied or stated that there was or is nothing left for him or for mankind to do in order to save themselves.
  3. Third, when Jesus stated, ″It is finished,″ the Bible presents a litany of evidence indicating both Jesus and we have much more to achieve for our salvation than we realize.
  4. Jesus had a greater role to play.
  5. St.
  6. Paul evidently did not feel that Jesus had accomplished everything that needed to be done for our salvation/justification after the cross since he wrote in Romans 4:25 that Jesus ″was put to death for our transgressions and rose for our justification.″ As far as we can tell, Jesus had not yet been ″raised″ from the grave when he declared, ″it is done.″ Hebrews says that Christ will continue to ″rescue those who come close to God″ until the end of time through his high priestly ministry at the right side of the Father, as revealed to us by the inspired author of the book of Hebrews: But he maintains his priesthood in perpetuity because he exists in perpetuity.
  • Therefore, he has the ability to save individuals who come to God through him at any point in the future, since he is always alive to intercede on their behalf with the Father (7:24-25; see also Heb.
  • 8:3; I Tim.
  • 2:5).
  • Moreover, it is undeniable that Jesus had to send the Holy Spirit in order for the entire world to be rescued.
  • As the scripture says, ″Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water,″ and such will be the case for anybody who believes in me.
  • Because Jesus had not yet been glorified, he stated this concerning the Spirit, which people who trusted in him would receive.
  • However, the Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified (John 7:38-39).

″However, when the Holy Spirit has descended upon you, you will acquire power…″ And as soon as he finished speaking, he was hoisted up into the air and carried away by a cloud, out of sight from their perspective (Acts 1:8-9).When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all gathered together in one location…They were all infused with the Holy Spirit at the same time…(See Acts 2:1-4 for further information.) You, too, who have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and have placed your faith in him, have been sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who serves as a guarantee of our inheritance until we are able to take possession of it to the glory of God, as a result of your faith in him (Eph.

1:13-14).Rather than relying on our good works to save us, he saved us on the basis of his own mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, which he lavishly bestowed on us through Jesus Christ our Savior, in order that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs with the hope of eternal life (Titus 3:5-7).There is more work to be done.In case you didn’t notice, I was cautious to point out that Christ did not, in a strict sense, achieve all necessary for man’s redemption on the cross. It is true that Christians can be said to be saved/justified by grace alone according to the Bible and the Catholic Church, in the sense that it is God alone, and consequently God’s grace alone, that is the initial cause of our salvation/justification (cf.

  • Titus 3:5-7; Eph.
  • 2:8-9).
  • And so we may say ″Jesus accomplished it all for us,″ but not just via his death on the cross, but also during his entire life and ministry at the right side of the Father, through his burial and resurrection, and his priestly ministry at the right hand of the Father (cf.
  • CCC 517).
  • In terms of applying those merits to the lives of real human beings, however, the Bible makes it very plain that we are also ″justified by deeds,″ ″obedience,″ our ″words,″ our ″faithfulness,″ and other such actions as the Bible describes.

To be meritorious before God, all of this on the part of man must be empowered by God’s grace, but by looking at just a few of the texts we might study below, we shall discover in Scripture exactly what we see in CCC 2010: ″ No one can earn the initial grace of forgiveness and justification at the beginning of conversion since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, and no one can merit this favor. We can thus deserve for ourselves and for others the graces that are required for our sanctification, for the expansion of grace and charity, and for the goal of everlasting life, provided we are moved by the Holy Spirit and charitable intentions. In this brief piece, we shall discuss the concept of ″merit for oneself.″ ″Merit…for others″ will be addressed at a later date and in another thread. We must make a contribution to our own justification in God’s eyes.

  1. You may see that a person is justified by his or her deeds rather than by faith alone (James 2:24).
  2. Isn’t it true that if you submit yourself to someone as obedient slaves, you become slaves of the one whom you obey, whether that is a slave of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness (Greek: eis dikaiosunein, meaning ″leads to justification″).
  3. On the day of judgment, I tell you, men will give an account for every careless word they speak; because it is by your words that you will be justified, and it is by your words that you will be condemned″ (Romans 6:16).
  4. (Matt.
  5. 12:36-37).
  6. Because it is not the hearers of the law who will be justified before God, but rather it is the doers of the law who will be justified before God (Romans 2:14).

We Must Be Faithful to Christ and Follow His Commands…For the sake of my name, you will be despised by everyone. Those who persevere to the end, however, shall be rescued (Matt.10:22).I will reward you with the crown of life if you remain faithful until the end (Rev.2:10).

If we, on the other hand, walk in the light, as he is in the light, we will have communion with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son will purify us from all sin.As long as we confess our sins to God, we may be confident that he will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:7-9).And do not be afraid of those who murder the body but are unable to kill the soul; rather, be afraid of him who, in hell, can destroy both the soul and the body…

  1. So everyone who acknowledges me in front of men, I will acknowledge in front of my Father in heaven; but, anyone who rejects me in front of men, I will deny in front of my Father in heaven (Matt.
  2. 10:28-33).
  3. We are unable to mention the vast number of biblical verses that mandate a plethora of actions on our part in order to be saved because of space constraints.
  4. The Bible commands us to ″repent″ (Acts 2:38; 3:19; Mark 1:15; II Cor.
  5. 7:8-10), be baptized (John 3:3-5; Romans 6:3-4; I Peter 3:21; Acts 22:16; Mark 16:16), persist in obedience (Galatians 6:7-9; Romans 2:6-7; Acts 5:32; Heb.
  6. 5:8-9; II Timothy 2:12; John 15:1-6), keep the In fact, in Matt.

5:44-45, Jesus expresses this point about as clearly as it is possible: Rather, I urge you to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be adopted as sons of your heavenly Father. It is necessary to do something, such as ″love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,″ not just to indicate that you are ″a son of your Father,″ but also ″so that you may be,″ or ″so that you may become (Gr.– genesthe),″ a son of your Father, according to Jesus. One thing is very clear: when Jesus stated the famous words ″it is done,″ he did not imply that there was nothing further necessary for salvation. So let’s get to work and ″work out salvation with dread and trembling″ as they say.

(Philippians 2:12)

True Meaning of Jesus Saying “It Is Finished” on the Cross

Editor’s note: When Jesus said ″It is finished″ when nailed to the cross, he was referring to the fact that all of God’s work had been completed at that point. In other words, God will not undertake any new projects. Is this, however, an accurate interpretation?

Is the phrase ″It is completed,″ said by the Lord Jesus, a reference to the conclusion of the work of redemption?Greetings, Sister Wang.According to what you write in your letter, ″I believe that when the Lord Jesus stated ‘It is finished’ seconds before He breathed His last breath, it indicated that the work of salvation had been completed by God, and that God would not undertake any more work.″ When it comes to this particular subject, I’d want to share my own personal knowledge with you.

The Lord Jesus’ words on the cross, ″It is finished,″ merely meant that His job of being crucified had been completed, for the fundamental purpose of the Lord Jesus’ being incarnated was to be crucified (Matthew 27:46).His spotless and holy body was nailed on the cross as a sin sacrifice, rescuing mankind from Satan’s grasp and atoning for our transgressions against God.In other words, the Lord Jesus was fulfilling one stage of God’s plan for salvation when he died on the cross for us.Furthermore, at this part of the labor, the Lord Jesus promised that He would have more work to accomplish in the future, which was fulfilled.Consequently, we may reasonably conclude that the Lord Jesus’ statement ″It is done″ while on the cross did not imply that the work of God’s salvation of people had been completed at that time.

We are widely aware that when mankind was corrupted by Satan, God began His job of rescuing his creation.Him rescuing us from Satan’s control and restoring us to the likeness of those first humans He created is His ultimate goal in this life.As soon as mankind has totally escaped Satan’s power and our sins have been cleaned, God’s task will be accomplished, and both God and mankind will be able to rest peacefully in their respective places of rest.In order for God to complete this task, He must labor in accordance with the phases of growth experienced by humans. His management plan for preserving mankind is being finished in stages and phases, one for each epoch of the universe’s history.God employed Moses to give the rules, and he commanded that everyone follow them throughout the first step of the process.

  1. God’s rules were intended to instruct mankind on how to live on this planet as well as what sin was.
  2. Then, in accordance with mankind’s requirements, God brought the Age of Law to a close and usher in the Age of Grace, during which the Lord Jesus took on human flesh to perform His work of healing the sick, driving out devils, and bestowing unending grace.
  3. When it was all said and done, He was nailed on the cross and offered as a sin sacrifice in order to save mankind from sin.
  4. After then, all that was required was for individuals to believe in the Lord and confess their sins before the Lord, and their sins would be forgiven.
  5. Despite the fact that our crimes have been forgiven, our sinful nature continues to live, and we remain slaves to the cycle of sinning during the day and confessing our sins at night.
  6. We will never be able to free ourselves from the bonds of sin.
  • As Paul put it, ″because to wish is present with me; but how to accomplish that which is good I do not discover″ (Romans 7:18).
  • The Bible also states that one should pursue peace with all people and holiness in order to see the Lord: ″Without holiness, no one shall see the Lord″ (Hebrews 12:14).
  • Still, we continue to live in sin, and we are filthy and depraved from the inside out.
  • We are not eligible to enter God’s kingdom since we are not worthy.
  • In the Bible it says, ″Who saved us from such a tremendous death, and continues to deliver: in whom we have our confidence that he will yet deliver us″ (2 Corinthians 1:10).
  • In the words of Paul, ″Who are maintained by the power of God through faith in salvation, waiting to be revealed in the end time″ (1 Peter 1:5).
  • ″As a result, Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and to those who seek him, he will appear a second time, without sin, and bring them to salvation″ (Hebrews 9:28).

We can see from these few passages that, in order to entirely deliver us from Satan’s tyranny, the God of the end days has a stage of work to finish in order to make us worthy of His rescue. It is important to understand that when the Lord Jesus stated, ″It is finished,″ He didn’t mean that the work of salvation had already been completed, but rather that the task of redeeming people throughout the Age of Grace had been completed. We may infer from this that God’s job of rescuing all of people is not yet completed. We require God to enter into our lives and perform the process of purification and transformation on our behalf; otherwise, we will not be worthy to see God, much alone be rescued by Him.

To illustrate this, let us consider a couple of verses from God’s Word: The fact that man has been redeemed and cleansed of his crimes can only be interpreted as God not remembering and treating man in line with his faults.″ However, if man, who resides in a fleshly body, has not been set free from sin, he can only continue to sin, therefore displaying his corrupt demonic nature in an unending cycle of sin. This is the life that man leads, a never-ending loop of sinning and being forgiven by his Creator.People sin throughout the day and confess their sins at night, according to statistics. The sin sacrifice will not be able to redeem man from sin in this manner, despite the fact that it will be effective for all time for man.Because man continues to have a wicked disposition, only half of the work of redemption has been performed.″ The process of judgment and chastisement remained unfinished after that step had been completed,″ says the author.

  • The purpose of this stage is to purify man via the use of the word and to provide him with a route to follow.
  • Continuing this stage after the casting out of demons would be fruitless and meaningless since it would fail to extinguish man’s wicked nature, and man would come to a complete halt at the forgiveness of his sins, which would be a waste of time.
  • Man has been forgiven his sins as a result of the sin sacrifice, because the work of the crucifixion has already been completed and God has triumphed over Satan.
  • However, because of the corrupt tendency of man that still exists within him, man might continue to sin and reject God, and God has not secured victory over people.
  • As a result, throughout this stage of the job, God utilizes the word to expose man’s corrupt disposition, prompting him to exercise in line with the correct way.

For the first time, the word is directly supplying man’s life and enabling him to have his disposition entirely regenerated; this is a considerably more extensive stage of operation than the previous one.As a result, the incarnation in the last days has brought the importance of God’s incarnation to a close and has completed God’s management plan for man’s redemption.” From God’s words, we can see that if we desire to be cleansed and saved, as well as taken into God’s kingdom to receive the inheritance of God, we must embrace God’s work of judgment in the end days in order to obtain the inheritance of God.That which is declared in the Bible, when ″because the time has come that judgment must begin in the house of God,″ is being confirmed is being confirmed (1 Peter 4:17).To assist us realize the fact that we have been corrupted by Satan, God employs the judgements of His words to uncover and dissect our corrupt substance, which He does via the employment of His words.

  1. When this happens, we will begin to despise evil and turn our backs on Satan, and we will put our trust in God to gradually cleanse us of our corrupt dispositions and cleanse us of our sins, transforming us into people who obey and love God.
  2. This is how God will unite a group of individuals who are all of one heart and thought with Him, and His 6,000-year plan to completely redeem mankind will be carried out to its logical conclusion.
  3. God’s magnificent job will have been completed at that point.
  4. In accordance with the Book of Revelation: ″And He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I create all things new.″ And he instructed me to write because these words are true and trustworthy.
  5. And he told me that it was completed.
  6. I am the beginning and the end, the beginning and the end.

Those who are thirsty for the fountain of life’s water will receive it at no cost from me″ (Revelation 21:5-6).When man’s corrupt disposition is completely removed, resulting in the birth of a new man, God’s job of rescuing mankind is fully completed.Without the work of the Lord Jesus, our sins would not have been forgiven, and mankind would not have progressed to the point where we are today; without the work of God’s judgment and chastisement in the last days, we would never be able to rid ourselves of our corrupt dispositions, let alone be purified by the Lord.Every step, every level of God’s work is vital for mankind, and each stage is implemented in accordance with the degree to which we have been corrupted by the devil. It is impossible to overlook a single step in God’s work since every step is incredibly vital. As a result, assuming that the Lord Jesus’ words ″It is done″ while on the cross signifies that God’s work is completely completed is a stretch of the imagination.

Following in God’s footsteps and accepting God’s work in the end days is the only way we may be completely cleaned and rescued from our sins.People that attain this level of success are among the most fortunate members of the human race!Sister Wang, please accept my heartfelt greetings.

It Is Finished. The Last Words of Jesus.

This is the fourth and final lesson in the Last Words sermonlink series. This lesson is also available in a children’s version.Any person’s final words have value; nevertheless, the words of Jesus have a special significance that cannot be overstated.

Christ’s last words were ″it is finished,″ which he spoke just before taking his last breath.Advertisement – The rest of the story is below. When Jesus realized that his mission was complete, he declared, in accordance with the Scripture, ″I am thirsty.″ Because there was a container of sour wine nearby, they wet a sponge in it and placed it on a hyssop branch, which they then brought up to his lips.

When Jesus had finished tasting it, he exclaimed, ″It is completed!″ After then, he bent his head and surrendered his spirit.John 19:28-30 (KJV) Actually, the term ″tetelestai″ is a translation of a single word from the original language of the Bible, ″tetelestai.″ And this rich and finely selected word is brimming with profound significance.Let’s take a look at some of the different aspects of this word’s meaning.

Tetelestai – The Sacrifice Is Accomplished

There would have been no doubt in the minds of any Jewish person present that this word was the English translation of a Hebrew phrase that was employed in the Old Testament sacrifice system.During the Jewish festival of The Day of Atonement, the High Priest would enter the temple and offer a unique sacrifice in atonement for the sins of the whole nation of Israel. The priest would emerge from the site of sacrifice as soon as the animal had been slaughtered and proclaim to the waiting throng in Hebrew that ″it is completed.″ All of Israel’s sins were symbolically imputed to the lamb, which was then slaughtered and punished in their place, as part of this sacrifice.

The Bible, on the other hand, teaches that this sacrificial system was never truly completed or completed since the sacrifice of that lamb was faulty and only temporarily effective. However, when Jesus died on the cross, he was recognized as the one acceptable and ultimate sacrifice for all sin.T
