Earlier in the chapter, Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” In Zacharias’ ultimate aim as a Christian apologist and evangelist, this passage has become the cornerstone of his ultimate objective: to present and defend the truth of Jesus Christ so that others may come to know and believe in Him.

Millions of people in more than 70 nations, including on the campuses of some of the world’s most famous colleges, have benefited from his presentation of the gospel truth framework.

As a result of this need, Zacharias founded Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) in 1984, which was based in Toronto, Canada, until it relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1985.

  1. After years of planning, the Zacharias Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, became a reality in 2017.
  2. A total of fifteen RZIM offices may be found across the world in the following countries: the United States; Canada; Peru; Kenya; South Africa; the United Kingdom; Austria; Spain; Romania; Macedonia; Turkey; Singapore; Hong Kong; India; and the Middle East.
  3. Spiritual Disciplines: Through our books, group studies, and scriptural resources, RZIM seeks to model and develop Christ-like character in our readers and participants.
  4. They are aimed to train and equip those who wish to effectively argue for a Christian worldview in their own countries.
  5. Zacharias has spent the past 45 years praising the Christian religion and addressing the major existential problems of life’s origin, meaning, morality, and destiny with eloquence and grace, and he continues to do so.
  6. Throughout his career, he has written or edited more than 25 publications in the subjects of theology, apologetics, comparative religion, and philosophical studies.

In addition to having three adult children, Zacharias and his wife, Margie, have been married for 45 years and have three grandchildren. They currently reside in Atlanta.

In my quest of the truth, I swear that I will leave no stone unturned. It was the words of Jesus in John 14:19 that changed the direction of Ravi Zacharias’ life permanently. He was a previous skeptic and seventeen-year-old when he heard the words, “Because I live, you will also live.” “I will not leave any stone unturned in my search of truth,” Zacharias pledged after being pushed to the edge of suicide by the truth of Scripture.

  1. Earlier in the chapter, Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.
  2. His commitment to representing the gospel of Jesus Christ via historical, intellectual, and moral underpinnings, and to defending it against opponents with grace, clarity, and coherence, has not wavered even at the age of 71 years.
  3. During his early years of ministry, Zacharias noticed a significant need for Christian apologetics ministry—both in terms of leading nonbelievers to Christ and training and equipping Christians to effectively share the gospel.
  4. As a result of this need, Zacharias founded Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) in 1984, which was based in Toronto, Canada, until it relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1985.
  5. The Zacharias Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, was established in 2017 to fulfill his aim of establishing an apologetics training center in the United States with worldwide reach.

With a global team of speakers and more than 200 employees worldwide, RZIM seeks to influence the heart and intellect among society’s thinkers and influencers through the following activities: Evangelism: RZIM shares the gospel through its global team of over 80 speakers and experts, as well as its radio and television programs, podcasts, and publications that reach listeners and readers all over the world.

  • In the area of apologetics, a team of evangelists and trained RZIM speakers participate in open forums, speaking engagements, panels, and debates to gently and respectfully respond to arguments to Christian faith.
  • Programs and courses are offered in the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Singapore, and online.
  • Wellspring International, a humanitarian branch of RZIM, discovers and financially supports existing groups that assist women and children at danger, as well as providing individual scholarships to help with education, healthcare, and basic living expenses.
  • Even the most severe criticisms and philosophical assaults do not deter him from his firm belief in the reality of Jesus Christ.

Theologians, apologists, comparative religion scholars, and philosophers have benefited from his writings and editing. In addition to having three adult children, Zacharias and his wife, Margie, have been married 45 years. They are currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Ravi Zacharias on the New Age Movement

Ravi Zacharias is the author of this piece. It was around Christmas time that I first came across Ravi, who I discovered by viewing some of his YouTube videos and followed up on some of my husband’s more difficult inquiries. Ravi is a modern-day equivalent of C.S. Lewis. With the same zeal, stolid forthrightness, and acceptance that the truth is just the truth, whether or not you agree with it, whether or not it is convenient for you, he embodies the same qualities as you. In addition to his courageous and unapologetically pursuing and proclaiming the truth, Ravi never comes off as self-righteous, and there is a thread of kindness and love that runs through both his method of speaking and his message.

What is the significance of Jesus?

It is the emphasis of Why Jesus that spirituality and the contemporary blend of custom-made faiths, which are mostly promoted in the Western world, are brought into sharp light.

In the beginning of the book, Ravi says something that made me uncomfortable and brought back memories of my adolescent years when I left the fundamentalist church of my upbringing for something that was substantially less judgemental.

His thesis is one that we have all heard before: how the media has the ability to affect us, and how the narrative of well-crafted fiction can have a lasting effect on our perspective of the actual world, as well as our worldview and associated moral compass Obviously this is a valid issue, however I believe there are varying degrees of involvement with the material, as well as intent behind its production, aim behind its use, and the gullibility or desperation of the individual.

  • Not everything, in my opinion, is enlightening, but not everything is destructive, as well.
  • It’s possible that I respond in this way because what I’m hearing isn’t something I want to hear.
  • In contrast to this, Ravi never takes the road of full rejection (although we get a sense that this may be his underlying personal feeling), but he does warn that there is a lot going on in the background.
  • Ravi moves the remainder of Why Jesus away from the generic and into the specific, focusing mostly on Oprah and Deepak Chopra (although other media and spirituality personalities, such as Dan Brown and the Dalai Lama, do receive some screen time).
  • He describes how Oprah, who was once a staunch Christian during her years of poverty, has evolved into something more ambiguous – that is, into a nebulous spiritual platform that borrows elements from many of the world’s oldest and most significant religions.
  • The point is that power corrupts, and the higher we soar, the more we believe that we, rather than God, are deserving of all the acclaim.
  • Ravi’s reasoning and examples are well-organized and persuasive, and you will never look at daytime broadcasters, particularly the legendary Oprah, in the same way again.

The term “new age” is a strange one, having first gained popularity in the 1960s for the most part.

It is true that the majority of it is fairly ancient, with plainly traceable roots in religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, among others.

Enter a man by the name of Deepak Chopra.

Ravi provides some background information (although those of us who are completely unaware, such as yours me, require even more) and then devotes the remainder of Why Jesus to rebutting Chopra’s commercialized religious Franken-monster.

It’s a main Ravi theme here and in other books AND in his talks that all religions, as their basic tenant, claim exclusivity, so none of that “all roads lead to God” talk is based in reality.

No hypocrite, Ravi takes the time to address Christian televangelists and other individuals who, through their own self-interest and desire for personal wealth, have essentially ruined God’s message in the world around them.

When it comes to Christianity’s track record, Ravi is the first to admit that it does not have a perfect record, and this is something that he spends some time further investigating and discussing, resulting in a well-rounded and complete argument that preemptively addresses many questions in the process.

It gives much food for thought, as well as an examination of the present popularity of “new age” faiths, as well as the reasons why people ultimately want something, or someone, to worship, and how Christ can best provide that fundamental need via his sacrifice.

Why Jesus?: Rediscovering His Truth in an Age of Mass Marketed Spirituality (Paperback)

Devi Zacharias is the author. It was around Christmas time that I first came across Ravi, who I discovered through some of his YouTube videos and through following up on some of my husband’s more difficult inquiries. Ravi is a modern-day C.S. Lewis in the best sense of the phrase. He possesses the same vigor – a stolid forthrightness – and an understanding that the truth is just the truth, whether or not you agree with it, whether or not it is convenient for you to believe it. In addition to his boldly and unapologetically pursuing and proclaiming the truth, Ravi never comes off as self-righteous, and there is a thread of kindness and love that runs through both his manner of speaking and his message.

  • The reason for Jesus’s existence is that It was among my purchases that I came across Rediscovering His Truth in an Age of Mass Marked Spirituality.
  • It is at this point when the long subtitle comes in.
  • Obviously, Ravi begins with the ills of television and the entertainment industry in general, as one might expect.
  • I believe that not everything is enlightening, but not everything is also detrimental.
  • Possibly, my reaction is due to the fact that the information is not what I wanted to hear.
  • Even if we have a sense that this may be his underlying personal feeling, Ravi never goes down the road of utter rejection, but he does warn us that there is a lot going on in the background.
  • Following that, Ravi delves into the specifics of Why Jesus, concentrating on Oprah and Deepak Chopra (but other media and spirituality luminaries, such as Dan Brown and Dalai Lama, are also featured).

He describes how Oprah, who was once a staunch Christian during her years of poverty, has evolved into something more ambiguous – that is, into a nebulous spiritual platform that borrows elements from many of the world’s oldest and most influential religions.

The idea is that power corrupts, and the higher we soar, the more we believe that we, rather than God, are deserving of praise.

Ravi’s reasoning and examples are well-organized and persuasive, and you will never look at daytime hosts, particularly the legendary Oprah, in the same way again.

A strange term, new age was first used in the 1960s and has only recently regained popular usage.

Indeed, the majority of it is fairly ancient, with plainly traceable roots in religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, among others, as well as other traditions.

Deepak Chopra is the individual in question.

For those of us who are completely unaware, such as yourself, Ravi provides some background information before devoting the remainder of Why Jesus to rebutting Chopra’s commercialized religious Frankenstein (which, admittedly, we really need).

It’s a main Ravi theme here and in other books AND in his talks that all religions, as their basic tenant, claim exclusivity, so none of that “all roads lead to God” talk is based in reality.

No hypocrite, Ravi takes the time to address Christian televangelists and other individuals who, through their own self-interest and pursuit of personal wealth, have essentially undermined God’s message.

When it comes to Christianity’s track record, Ravi is the first to admit that it does not have a perfect record, and this is something that he spends some time further investigating and discussing, resulting in a well-rounded and complete argument that preemptively answers many questions in the book.

In addition to providing much food for thought, it also presents an examination of the current popularity of “new age” faiths as well as the reasons why individuals must ultimately seek something, or someone, to worship and how Christ may best fulfill that innate need.

Description

As a result of movements such as New Age spirituality and society’s obsession with human potential, the author believes that, over the past forty years, a “perfect storm” has occurred, redefining for popular culture what has been for centuries the classic biblical definitions of the person, work, and teaching of Jesus Christ. In Why Jesus?, Ravi Zacharias examines the ramifications of this “storm” by examining the 1960s to 1970s “Age of Aquarius,” actor Shirley MacLaine’s book and television seriesOut On a Limb, author James Redfield (The Celestine Prophecy), Rhonda Byrne (The Secret), Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code), and other books by Eckart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, the Dali Lama In particular, the impact of Oprah Winfrey’s media platform in transforming society through the introduction and promotion of certain books and authors will be discussed in depth.

The following major new age and human potential tenets will be discussed: the belief that we are all gods and must discover our divinity; the belief that Jesus was only a good teacher; the belief that Christianity is only one of many paths to eternal life; the belief that reincarnation is real; the belief that Jesus was married; the belief that truth is relative; the belief that there is no sin; and the belief that perfection is possible.

When it comes to defending Jesus’ statements about himself and Christianity, the validity of and justifications for his physical resurrection will be emphasized as the most crucial argument.
