In our journey through Matthew, we shall reach this third passage at Redemption Church, and it will be at that point that we will all begin to observe Lent together. When it comes to Lent, we don’t normally do much here, but just as Advent is tied to Christmas, so Lent is tied to the Passion of Christ and the celebration of Resurrection Day. It is a period of preparation, and we will be encouraging everyone to walk through that season with some intentionality, knowing that at the end of the road there is a bleeding cross and our Saviour, who rose from the tomb and is God with us.

Let us remember that for any of Jesus’ claims to be real, such as being the Christ, the Messiah, or the Savior, He had to go through the agony of death.

We pray that we would prepare ourselves on purpose to answer the call for His glory and our delight, as we discover that there is abundant grace and restoration available for all of us as we lean into the brokenness and muck that lies before us.

The Bible says in Psalm 119:6 that “then I shall not be ashamed, for my eyes are set on all Your commands” (ESV).

In other words, it’s doing what Paul said in Philippians 4:8 when he said: “Finally, brothers, think about whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure; whatever is lovely; whatever is commendable; whether there is anything exceptional; whether there is anything deserving of praise.” It is the process of replacing negative ideas with God’s truth (rather than the “power of positive thinking”).

It’s the decision to make a list of everything we’re grateful for, even when we don’t feel very grateful.

It is replacing our fleshly, human viewpoint (which is based on erroneous sensations) with a heavenly-or kingdom-centered-perspective, understanding that God is good, with the awareness that God is good.

Knowing that God is on our side and has a good plan for our life is a comfort. Trusting and surrendering ourselves to Jesus is an act of faith. Fixing your gaze on God is neither a sort of denial or a belief system that is abstract in nature. Keeping our gaze fixed on God does not imply that we should ignore or pretend that issues do not exist. On the contrary, relying on God when in the midst of a conflict provides us with greater strength. Consequently, have no fear, because I am with you; have no need to be discouraged, for I am your God. Lessons From Daniel’s Prayer Life

While writing this piece, the globe is facing a pandemic that threatens domestic peace and, for many, dashes all hope for a better future in the not-to-distant future. I’m ending up a study of Daniel, and one particular element from his epic journey has struck a very poignant chord with me this season. At the same time, our relationship with God and our capacity to remain steadfast are dependent on our continuing to practice life-giving spiritual practices in the same manner as before!

Making room in our life for margin is critical if we are to safeguard our general health and well-being. Enforcing spiritual discipline on oneself will bring alignment, regardless of whether you are prone to relying only on your own power and burning out in times of protracted stress, or to disconnect and go numb. God wants you to be completely honest with him. Bring your exhausted, your poverty, your desire for freedom to breathe(1), and encourage God to come up in a fervent way to meet your needs!

Jesus Walks on Water, Peter Sinks

During Jesus’ baptism in Matthew 14, Peter thought to himself, “If Jesus can do it, maybe I can too.” However, there was yet another storm with winds and waves and the tiny boat was being thrown around.
