Why Did Jesus Ask Who Touched Me

Who Touched Me?

Pontius Pilate, who was unsure about what to do next, brought Jesus before him. The followers of Jesus constituted a small minority, and the people demanded that Jesus be crucified on their behalf. Jesus was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate (Pilate’s decision). A beating and crucification were inflicted upon him. Jesus’ tomb was discovered to be empty three days after he died. Jesus’ followers believe that they experienced visions of Jesus rising from the grave throughout the next 40 days in the tradition of Moses and other great Jewish prophets.

The idea that Jesus was the Messiah was rejected by the vast majority of Jews.

When Paul of Tarsus arrived, everything changed.

There were many individuals in the region who were impoverished and destitute who found consolation in the concepts of a loving deity and an afterlife.

But this same scenario happened to Jesus too.

Who was it that touched me? The following is the question that Jesus asked when he found himself in the center of a large throng with numerous individuals touching him at the same time. One intriguing point is that he asked this question, indicating that just one individual had actually impacted him at that particular moment.

But how is that true?

Indeed, he must have been aware of everyone touching him at the time, and yet just one person touched him and received something from him. This is a significant achievement for us. When we come into contact with Jesus, we are touched by him. This is what distinguished this particular touch from the rest of the characters in the novel. It was a lady who reached out and touched him, and as a result of her act of trust, Jesus reached out and touched her back. This is amazing since he does not respond to every touch in the same way.

  1. You know, this lady was under the impression that if she touched him, she would receive something from him.
  2. When our expectancy is alive, it testifies to the fact that our faith is also alive.
  3. Many Christ followers have low expectations as a result of what has happened, or perhaps more accurately, what has not happened, in their lives.
  4. As a result, when we try to touch him, it does not establish a connection with him.
  5. Luke 8:43-46 tells the tale of this incident.
  6. She walked up behind Jesus and caressed the hem of his garment as she passed.
  7. ‘Who has touched me?’ Jesus inquired.
  8. We also know that she stated, “If I get the opportunity to touch him, I will see that he is made whole.” As a result, she developed a real trust in Jesus as a result of her bodily contact with him.
  9. The typical individual has between 12,000 and 60,000 thoughts every day, depending on their gender.

Negative ideas account for 80% of all thoughts, while repeated thoughts account for 95% of all thoughts. This implies that our faith in Jesus may be assailed on a regular basis by negative thoughts, which, if we’re being honest, is something that we all experience.

But, there is good news.

We may speak the word of God to ourselves and drown out negative ideas, allowing our faith to flourish and expand so that we might receive from him. “If I can only get a hold of him, I’m going to be healed,” this lady convinced herself. As an alternative, what if we did the same thing? This is what it would sound like. “I’m confident that I’ll receive a response when I pray today. I’m going to be at ease when I worship him, I know it. When I go to church today, I have a feeling that something nice will happen to me.

  1. God will provide a way for me if I do what’s right and love people,” I believe.
  2. As a result, when I speak to myself about what the Bible says, my expectation may flourish!
  3. In order to make your anticipation come alive, I encourage you to speak what the Bible says to yourself today and feed your expectation with it.
  4. Make a connection with God via praying, worshiping him, obeying him, becoming a member of a local church, contributing to him, loving him, and other activities.
  5. This is exactly what this lady did, and it is exactly what we can do as well.

How is your expectation today? What are you telling yourself?

If you feel like you’re fighting a losing struggle to believe that God can do anything, take heart: he is with you. He is not rejecting you, nor is he ignoring you; rather, he is reaching out to you with love and kindness. Reach out in faith and make contact with him. Not a flawless touch, but rather an intentional touch, and you have what it takes to deliver it to him successfully. Whatever you’re dealing with today, Jesus has the ability to help you overcome it. As a result, I want to intentionally touch him in such a way that he turns around and asks, “Who touched me?” Your God is with you, and you’re right in the thick of a miracle!

Who Touched Me?

At that moment, Jesus became aware that his healing power had been channeled away from him. He turned around amid the throng and said, “Who touched my robe?” Make a note of 5:30 p.m. When Jesus encountered the Gerasene demoniac in the preceding part of Mark, he acted in ways that were perplexing, if not downright upsetting, to those who observed him. When the Gospel of Mark moves on to the following episode, which is a double-healing account that moves into uncharted terrain since one of the healings is really a resurrection, the puzzlement only grows more complicated and frustrating.

  • Jesus agreed to accompany the leader, and the two of them set off towards his house, with a big throng trailing after them.
  • In fact, she was instantaneously restored to health.
  • My favorite reaction to the disciples, who took Jesus’ words literally and felt he was making a joke out of them.
  • So what’s the point of asking, “Who touched my robe?” Although the lady who had been cured could not understand why Jesus was asking this question, both Jesus and the woman understood the answer.
  • We don’t know anything about the woman’s motivation for wanting to get cured in secret.
  • This is not something that should be done to a Jewish holy man, in my opinion.
  • Upon falling before Jesus, trembling with terror in her heart, the woman confessed what she had done.

“Your agony has come to an end.” There is no hint of filthiness.

Nothing except positive reinforcement and excellent news.

In part, he was attempting to soothe her by addressing her as “Daughter,” which was a more personal address.

And, in part, he wanted everyone to know that she had been healed and returned to her rightful place as a contributing member of their society.

QUESTIONS FOR THOUGHT APPLICATION: Are there any times when you’ve felt like the woman in this narrative, desperate to reach out to Jesus in desperation.

What exactly happened?

PRAYER: As I read this narrative, a part of me recognizes myself in the characters of the disciples.

I’m sure I’ve put my foot in my mouth hundreds of times when talking with you.

Thank you very much!

Despite the fact that I have never been in her identical circumstance, there have been several occasions when I have cried out to you in despair.

Thank you for being my Savior, my healer, and my ray of hope in this dark world.

You’ve asked for a lot more than I anticipated.

You have brought me back to life.

I’ve been given a picture of wholeness that much exceeds my own. All honor and glory are due to you, merciful Lord, for your incredible generosity toward me. Amen. Why did Jesus not know who touched him in Luke 8 :45?

Why did Jesus not recognize the person who had touched him? Luke 8:45 (NIV) “Who is the one who has touched Me?” Jesus inquired. In the midst of everyone’s denial, Peter exclaimed, “Master, the people are swarming about You and pushing in on You.” Jesus was a finite, mortal human being who depended on God for everything – his miracles, his words, his decisions, and his plans – and was completely dependent on God for everything. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature as time went on. Luk2 2:52 (Luke 2:52) I have not spoken on My own initiative; rather, the Father who sent Me has given Me specific instructions on what to say and how to say it.

  • Even after being raised from the dead and pulled up to the Father’s presence in heaven, he is still not privy to everything, as the Father continues to tell him what he needs to know.
  • However, as things stand, you are attempting to assassinate Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I received from God; this was not something Abraham did.
  • In the event that he was God and all-knowing, he would be unable to hear from God unless he was God.
  • One of the hundreds of verses in the Bible that states he wasn’t is Luke 8:45.

Questions Jesus Asked: “Who Touched Me?”

Mark 5:22-43 (KJV) In response to a question from a friend, Isidor Rabi, a Nobel Prize laureate in physics, shared his story of how he became a scientist. Rabi responded by saying that every day after school, his mother would sit down with him and chat about his day. Instead of asking him what he had learned that day, she would always ask, “Did you ask a nice question today?” she said. “Asking smart questions,” Rabi explains, “helped me to become a scientific researcher.” Unknown as to where this information came from The life of Jesus is a study in paradoxes, and one of the things that emerges is that Jesus was a master at asking the appropriate question at the appropriate moment.

  1. His inquiries had the potential to disclose the motivations of his adversaries, disarm those who were attempting to destroy his credibility, convey the meaning of a parable, and demonstrate that he possessed knowledge much beyond that of the average person.
  2. The Lord is aware of our difficulties, struggles, and failures.
  3. He wishes to assist us in navigating through the maze of all of the many elements that comprise life.
  4. He is interested about every aspect of our lives.
  5. Jesus’ mission is not just concerned with attempting to guide people to a heavenly residence.
  6. If you pay attention, you will see that Jesus is attempting to persuade us to live out God’s Kingdom right here on the planet Earth.
  7. So when I tell you that Jesus is interested about your soul, I am referring to the fact that Jesus is concerned about your entire life, every single day, and not only about whether or not you will end up in paradise or hell after death.

We do, however, have physical, social, economical, and emotional demands as well as other requirements.

When one of these components is out of balance, it might have an impact on the others as well.

Mark narrates the tale of Jairus, the governor of the Synagogue, who came to Jesus and pleaded with him to come to his house because his baby daughter was on the verge of death.

After making their way through the streets of the city, where people press against Jesus, he comes to a complete halt and inquires, “Who touched my clothes?” According to Jairus, this must appear to be a crazy inquiry and a complete waste of his time.

There are obviously a lot of people pressing up against Jesus, and he comes to a halt and inquires, “Who touched my clothes?” Consider the following scenario: you are a family member who is following an ambulance that has a loved one inside on its route to the hospital.

The driver gets out of the vehicle and is directed to a person who is laying on the road.

While the driver’s sensitivity ought to be commended, how do you feel about his decision to drive this way?

When Jesus inquired as to who had touched him, the disciples responded as follows:31 “You can see the people swarming around you, yet you may still question yourself, ‘Who touched me?'” 32 Nevertheless, Jesus continued glancing around to discover who had done it.

As previously said, we know why Jesus came to a complete halt and posed the question.

As a result, this has become much more of a concern than it has previously been.

They have most certainly prescribed several unpleasant therapies, and instead of helping her get better, they have likely made her situation worse for her.

Because this type of condition would have rendered her unclean, she would have had to either remain separated from others or keep her problem a secret, which would have violated the spiritual tenets of her religion.

This ailment would have also prevented her from becoming pregnant, which would undoubtedly have resulted in significant social and mental distress.

She thinks that Jesus has the ability to cure her.

So she pushed her way through the crowd, breaking her religious rules in the process, in order to get to Jesus.

She had an instantaneous realization that she had been freed from her agony.

Jesus felt as though he were losing control of his body.

If that’s the case, why did he pose the question?

It’s not like she can walk around and show everyone evidence of her healing, but some individuals were aware of her reasons for living in seclusion.

She was being singled out right now.

Jesus might have gone on for a little longer.

He was more concerned with the soul of this lady than with any other aspect of her well-being – including her emotional, financial, social, sexual, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Yours is, too.

Every week, I come across someone who is living with agony that I was completely unaware of.

Jesus is aware of your suffering and is concerned about you.

Jesus is concerned about where you will spend eternity.

If, on the other hand, I stand here and tell you every Sunday that Jesus wants you to go to paradise while failing to tell you how much Jesus cares about your trip, I am misrepresenting the gospel of Christ.

Yes, Jesus is speaking about everlasting life, but he is also speaking of the life that we live every day, which is what we call “earthly life.” One method to bring people to paradise is to demonstrate to them how we have come to know a God who is capable of repairing the brokenness in our lives.

  • When she arrived, she collapsed at his feet, shivering with terror, and told him the full thing.
  • Jesus already knows the truth about us, but we can only benefit from being completely honest with God as part of our healing process.
  • You may depart in tranquillity, free of your anguish.” God has the ability to cure us in a moment, but healing is most typically found via the journey.
  • It occurs as a result of confession.
  • It happens while we go through the process of grieving.
  • It occurs as a result of learning to let go of feelings of guilt, shame, wrath, and pride.
  • It occurs as we allow the Holy Spirit to have greater and greater access to our life.

An significant man, a synagogue boss, had his plans put on wait as Jesus responded to the needs of a lady who many would have regarded as considerably less important.

There was no longer a need to bother the teacher in any way.

He does not allow the mob to proceed any further into the home at this time.

Jesus is sensitive to the fact that there is sadness in this home.

He does, however, pose an unusual question.

“In fact, the youngster is not dead, but rather sleepy.” The people who had gathered at the house to mourn and pay their respects to the family made light of him and laughed at him.

This is the sound of nervous laughter.

Jesus understands that the death of a child implies the end of a relationship.

Her death, on the other hand, did not result in her being cut off from God or from other believers.

What are your thoughts?

Jesus has the ability to bring back to life our complete selves, everything that makes us who we are, at any point along the path, from the present to the grave.

During his description of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead in 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul stated that Jesus is the firstfruits of those who have died and gone to heaven.

In this verse, Paul uses the word is to suggest that their state is not permanent, just as our slumber is not permanent when we wake up.

We shall be lifted to a new level of existence.

But when is all of this going to take place?

The reason behind this is as follows.

How can both of these statements be correct?

You may compare it to those nights when you get a really good night’s sleep if you haven’t had that experience before.

When you close your eyes, the next level of consciousness you experience is that of being awake.

I think that death and resurrection take place in this manner.

When we die, we will have no idea of time since we will have lost all sense of it.

The resurrection and the state of being in heaven are the next states of awareness for people who have been redeemed by Christ after death.

All I have to do now is put my trust in Jesus Christ.

“Don’t be terrified of anything.

They were both believers in Jesus.

“Can you tell me who touched me?” Jesus was the one who inquired.

Jesus will cure your soul if you would reach out to him in trust, if you will come before him and humble yourself before him.

He will restore you to wholeness, and this completeness will be with you for the duration of your trip as well as for the ages to follow.

The Lord is concerned about you and the anguish you are experiencing just as much as he was concerned about the widow and the synagogue ruler.

As you do so, remember to convey your suffering to Jesus.

He is concerned about your soul–that is, he is concerned about you as a whole, about everything that contributes to making your existence whole and meaningful. Make the decision now to allow him to begin the healing process in your life.

Who Touched Me? A Brief Meditation on the Reality of Faith

In the Gospel of Luke, there is a rare moment in which Jesus poses a question that we, as individuals, should eventually answer for ourselves. And as Jesus made his way through the crowds, he was mobbed. And a lady who had been suffering from an issue of blood for twelve years, and who had spent all of her money on physicians but had been unable to be treated by any of them, came up behind him and touched the border of his garment, and the issue of her blood stanched instantly. And Jesus responded, “Who has touched me?” And when they all denied it, Peter and those who were with him exclaimed, “Master, the masses press upon thee and throng upon thee, and yet you say who touched me?” they said.

And he replied to her, “Daughter, thy faith hath healed thee; depart in tranquillity.” (See Luke 8:42-50 for further information.) It’s important to note the inquiry, “Who touched me?” Take note of how uncomfortable the disciples appear to be with the question, as they are quick to deny that it was them that asked it.

  1. Eventually, Peter adds (I paraphrase) in a rather annoyed tone, “Lord, you see that hundreds of people are rubbing up against you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me!?'” Peter is referring to the Lord.
  2. Only one woman, though, had a genuine impact on him.
  3. It is one thing to come into bodily contact with the Lord, and quite another to have a spiritual encounter with him.
  4. Astonished – The disciples appear to believe that Jesus is upset by being touched by the disciples.
  5. Someone has truly touched him, and it was a faith-filled touch that he received.
  6. Hundreds of people may have come into contact with him, but this is the first time someone has really touched him.
  7. She possesses genuine faith, the kind of faith that heals and saves: “Daughter, thy faith hath healed thee; depart in peace!” Who was it that touched me?

Have you ever had a personal encounter with Jesus?

Everyone who has participated in the Eucharist has had some interaction with him, if not direct contact with him.

Are you one of the hundreds of people that rub up against Jesus during Mass, or have you really touched him?

Having a genuine faith encounter with the Lord results in being healed: seeing sins put to death and grace brought to life.

Have you had a personal encounter with the Lord?

People place more trust in Tylenol than they do in the Eucharist, according to many.

As a result, when people take Tylenol, they anticipate some sort of reaction.

Perhaps it is only a rite of passage for them.

This is genuine faith, faith that has a personal connection with Jesus. Faith that expects to be healed and to see results Who was it that touched me? . Have you had any contact with him?

Luke 8:45 Who touched me?

There was a large crowd assembled around Jesus and the disciples at the time. They all wanted to see what was going on, hear what was being said, and feel like they were a part of the action, so to speak, so they gathered around the perimeter. It was a tense and packed situation, with people pushing and shoving one other. According to the Bible (Luke 8:42), he was surrounded by a crowd. Master, the multitudes swarm thee and push againstthee, Peter exclaimed (Luke 8:45). They couldn’t comprehend why, after virtually everyone had touched him, Jesus would ask, “Who touched me?” Peter and his followers couldn’t figure out what he was talking about.

  • When this woman came into contact with Jesus, there was something distinct and unique about it.
  • Allow me to get right to work on my application.
  • Every every corner has a church on it.
  • But don’t be fooled by the appearance.
  • It’s possible that you’re just one of many people in the throng.
  • The difference is that if you’ve ever touched the hem of his garment (Matthew 9:20), you’ll know there’s something unusual going on on the inside of his garment.
  • He claimed (Luke 8:46) that “someone has touched me,” because “I see that virtue has been sucked out of me.” Now, I don’t think for a second that Jesus didn’t recognize the person who had approached him.

He is well-versed in every subject.

In reality, the book of Mark states (Mark 5:32) that he glanced around to see who was responsible for this incident.

And the Bible states (Luke 8:47) that the lady realized she had not been hidden.

(See also Luke 8:47.) She arrived (Mark 5:33) with fear and trembling in her step.

You are aware of this.

You are his masterwork, his crown of jubilation, his joyous crown.

You are the light of the world, according to Matthew 5:14.

Notice that the Bible states (Luke 8:47) “She revealed unto him in the presence of all the people.” There is just one location where this might be accomplished now.

Amen.

If you wish to make a declaration to Christ, you should do it in front of his body.

It is impossible to separate the head from the rest of the body.

Ignoring his body is equivalent to ignoring his headship.

And we know that Jesus informed John that the seven candlesticks he saw represent the seven churches (Revelation 1:20).

Consequently, it appears to me that if you wish to make a declaration to Christ, you’ll have to do it in front of his body, the church.

You cannot become a part of the body without informing the rest of the body of your presence.

No.

And Christ has established a method by which this should be accomplished.

And this is a fundamental concept of the Baptist Church.

And you are received into the local assembly after being baptized.

Baptism is a public confession of your acceptance of Christ as your Savior.

(See Luke 8:47.) She explained to him in front of the entire congregation for what reason she had touched him and how she had been cured immediately.

And what exactly did he do to help you?

“Verily I say vnto you, whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever ye shall release on earth shall be loosed in heaven,” Jesus declared in Matthew 18:18.

(See Luke 8:48.) His words to her were as follows: “Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” Three things are said by Jesus in this passage.

And, if you’ve been rescued, this is what happened to you after that.

Your faith has restored you to health.

and depart in peace. You will not be saved or restored to wholeness via baptism; only faith can achieve that. However, you will never be comfortable in Christian service, and you will never be at peace if you do not participate.

A few final thoughts…

(See Mark 5:18-19 for further information.) And as he was brought onto the ship, the man who had been possessed by the devil appealed to him, pleading for him to accompany him on his journey. 19 However, Jesus does not show him mercy, but rather instructs him to return home and tell his friends about the wonderful things the Lord has done for him and how he has shown compassion on him. Jesus did not put up with him. He wants us to follow him, but first and foremost, things must be put in order.

  1. 16 Allow your light to shine brightly before men so that they may notice your good deeds and honor your heavenly Father.
  2. Men, on the other hand, do not.
  3. (Psalm 1:5).
  4. I express my gratitude to God and bless his holy name for granting me a position in the congregation of the just.
  5. And it is only by his mercy that I am able to claim such a position.
  6. Thank you for your prayers that we will not be embarrassed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, nor that we would disrespect the head by disregarding the body.
  7. The church, of course!
  8. The church, of course!

Last thought…

He made the following statement: Daughter… God the Father could say (Luke 3:22) “Thou is my beloved Son, in thee I am well delighted” when Jesus was baptized because the heavens were torn open during Jesus’ baptism. So it is not only us who are announcing to God and all that He has done for us, but it is also God who is declaring to the person and all of his children that a new cherished child of God has been welcomed into the fold and that we have been granted a wonderful position in Christ.

“Who touched me?” – Sermons & Writings of Victor Shepherd

Luke 8:45 (NIV) — — — — — “To see and be seen,” explained my ninth-grade geography instructor, “is why people go to tourist beaches, ski resorts, and churches; to see and be seen.” “To see and be seen,” he continued. Perhaps he was correct many years ago. Possibly, there was a time when some individuals attended to church just for this purpose. They desired to see, i.e., to catch up on the latest gossip. They wanted to be seen, which meant they wanted to maintain their reputation in the neighborhood and even be able to conduct business on Monday.

  1. This is no longer a motive for people to attend church nowadays.
  2. Curiosity could attract a few people to church, but if curiosity brought them here, it would never keep them here, because there isn’t much in church for curiosity seekers to look at or learn about.
  3. What the church is in the business of selling happens to be straightforward, transparent, and very repeated.
  4. I’m persuaded that individuals nowadays attend church mostly for the same reasons that the woman in our passage stood in a throng with a big number of others: to be among others.
  5. In those days, there were numerous reports regarding Jesus.
  6. Several accounts of Jesus described him as sympathetic, which explains why people continued to bring their sick and troubled to him.
  7. A single reason why people came to him, stayed with him, and eventually swore themselves to him was because, while in his company, they became different, their lives changed, the world changed, and everything changed.
  8. They’ve heard rumors regarding Jesus’ whereabouts.

When people are astonished to realize that they were unable to predict how they would react to blows, irruptions, and interruptions, they are said to be “shaken up.” We all strive to predict our reactions when something like this or that happens to us, and we all hope that we are successful in doing so.

  • It was almost impossible to predict how we would respond because our actions had nothing to do with our expectations.
  • Unconsciously, the younger individual, even the younger adult, believes that he or she is invulnerable to danger.
  • Nonetheless, what he accepts with his conscious, reflective mind, he hasn’t accepted with his unconscious mind as of this writing.
  • Then, one day, something happens to him that brings to the forefront of his consciousness what he’d always known intellectually but never felt in his heart: life is delicate, life is risky, life is fleeting, and life is susceptible to vulnerabilities that can never be completely eliminated.
  • We are in command of ourselves (of course); not only of ourselves, but also of our family, of our coworkers, and of a substantial portion of our global environment as well.
  • And we’re not even convinced we’re in command of our own lives at this point.
  • Then comes sadness, which is fueled by a genuine realization that our own junk stinks, which leads to guilt.

One day, though, we come to recognize that our difficulty is not life’s meaninglessness, but rather life’s meanings: there are so many of them, so many of them that are contradictory, and in any event, there is no one, true, trustworthy, everlasting meaning.

In first-century Palestine, males wore their talith, or prayer shawl, like an undershirt below their outer shirt.

The desperate lady believed that by holding these she was establishing contact withhim, and that this would be adequate compensation for her desire.

There would be no need to recite long and winding introductions or provide lengthy explanations.

Furthermore, she was suffering from a condition that caused people in the society to shun her; it would be best not to say anything and to simply behave confidently and see what happens.

The four tassels also represented the reality that the Word of God is spread over the entire world.

Let us not delude ourselves about this.

This group of people has gathered because they have heard rumors about Jesus Christ, and they have been told that this building and this institution have something to do with him and may even be able to assist them in making touch with him.

And I’m confident that it’s no different with those of us who have been attending church for a long time and intend on continuing to do so.

The reality is, however, that all of these issues are intertwined with the process of contacting him.

What did she expect that simply touching our Lord would do for her, to paraphrase the woman in our passage once more?

It’s possible that there was.

He would not have permitted her to continue pawing at him mechanically as if voodoo-like superstition could ever be a replacement for spiritual development in his opinion.

James and John’s mother requested that their two boys be given places of prominence.

Of course, he would anticipate a level of dread about him that went beyond simply touching the fringes of his prayer shawl.

For our Lord is well aware of something that we must never forget: that in order for us to begin to develop, we must first be born.

And the difference between taking no action and taking the first action is a quantum leap.

One temptation is to expect ourselves and others to demonstrate remarkable spiritual growth before we have had a personal encounter with our Lord.

They swim around for a while, repeating formulae they don’t comprehend and pursuing a road they believe is meaningless, until one day they give up on the whole thing and we never see them again at church.

Third: — The lady comes up to Jesus and touches him.

“I’ve been touched by someone.

Who is it that has affected him?

The question is just ridiculous.

“Someone has had an impact on me,” Jesus maintains.

Consider the heinousness that Marxism created in its wake.

Everything is based on the group’s efforts.

The individual’s worth is determined solely by his or her position in the larger group of people.

You don’t need me to tell you about Stalin’s forced labor camps in Siberia and the Gulag system, or about Stalin’s deliberate starvation of twelve million people in the Ukraine, or about the 30 to 60 million people who were killed by the secret police throughout the Cold War.

It was something I personally witnessed.

People walk around her or step over her, but they don’t stop to assist her in any way.

To offer help is to disobey what the gods have decreed and, as a result, is to invite the gods’ wrath and anger.

A dog had been dead for several days when I arrived in India, and I came across it on my first day there.

It had an unbearable odor about it.

After all, the gods had decreed that the dog should die in that posture and be left there until he expired.

Using the most cutting-edge medical technology, he was kept alive, and he was given a heart transplant after undergoing a slew of more procedures until his chest and belly resembled a quilt.

It was necessary for him to have his gall bladder removed during his recuperation from the heart transplant.

“He isn’t worth it,” no one ever said about him, and he never was.

What is it about him that makes him so special?

“Please let him go.” This was never even mentioned in hushed tones.

As I’ve stated on several occasions, the individual is meaningless within the framework of a Marxist collectivity.

In this context, the individual is useless because the individual is not a person; the individual is only a gear in a massive machine, and any cog may be replaced by any other cog.

Ancient Greek philosophy, strictly speaking, was aware of the individual; it did not, however, recognize the individual.

The distinction is that an individual is an individual in and of herself, but a person is always a person in relation to others.

It is never the same as existing as a person when attempting to exist as an individual.

The church, on the other hand, was well aware of the distinction and insisted that every human being is a person.

They don’t appear to have any friends.

They appear to have been abandoned or abandoned.

We must make certain that we understand the woman in our story in the proper context.

Others, though, did not.

Do such folks exist anymore?

Every human being is regarded as a person in his presence as a result of his embrace.

The arms of the crucified not only ensure that individuals are individuals rather than faceless cogs in a cosmic machine; the arms of the crucified also ensure that no one is finally abandoned, no one is left without that “other” who ensures that all individuals are, more profoundly still, persons; and the arms of the crucified ensure that no one is finally abandoned, no one is left without that “other” who ensures that all individuals are, more profoundly still, persons.

Although the church has given the world a magnificent gift at this location, nowadays most of the world is unaware of who has given it to the world.

Personally, I believe that if the church continues to hold up the direct illumination of the gospel, the indirect illumination that currently illuminates our society will continue to exist.

This morning, you and I are both attending church for a variety of reasons.

Centuries ago, a desperate lady, a daring woman, stretched out and clutched the tassels of his prayer shawl, hoping that by doing so, she would discover in him what she was looking for.

She had done so.

We in the church are well aware of this. By meeting here today, we hope to bring this reality to the attention of the wider public, should our society lose sight of it and therefore endanger everyone. Victor Shepherd, M.D. In the month of March 2003,
