Who am I in Christ?

QuestionAnswer “If anybody is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old has passed away, and the new has arrived!” says 2 Corinthians 5:17. It is possible to find two Greek terms in the Bible that are translated as “new.” The first term, neos, refers to anything that has only recently been created, although there are already many others that are similar to it in existence. The Greek word for “new” in this verse is kainos, which literally translates as “something that has just been created and is unlike everything else that exists.” In Christ, we are transformed into a completely new creature, just as God created the heavens and the earth from nothing at the beginning of time—He created them out of nothing, and God does the same with us.

  1. In Christ, we are “partakers of the divine nature,” which means that we have a share in the divine essence (2 Peter 1:4 KJV).
  2. Christ is in us, and we are in Christ.
  3. The new nature has a close relationship with God, submits to His will, and is committed to His work.
  4. The old nature is no longer alive in relation to the things of the Spirit and cannot be revived.
  5. Christ bestows upon us a fully new and holy nature, as well as an incorruptible existence.

If we belong to Christ, we are united to Him and no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:5-6); we are made alive with Him (Ephesians 2:5); we are conformed to His image (Romans 8:29); we are free from condemnation and walking not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit (Romans 8:1); and we are a member of the body of Christ, along with other believers (Ephesians 4:16).

  • In accordance with Ezekiel 11:19, the believer now has a new heart and has been endowed “with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:3).
  • We could question why we don’t live in the manner stated so often, despite the fact that we have devoted our lives to Christ and are certain in our eternal salvation.
  • Although the old nature is no longer alive, the new nature nevertheless needs to contend with the old “tent” in which it now resides.
  • In Christ, we now have the ability to choose to resist sin, whereas the old nature was unable to do so.
  • The option is ours.
  • We are loved, forgiven, and safe because of Christ.

Because of Christ, we have triumphed, we have been filled with pleasure and serenity, and we have been given genuine purpose in life. What a beautiful Savior we have in Jesus! Questions concerning the Christian Life (return to top of page) Who am I as a believer in Christ?

Who I Am in Christ: 10 Life-Changing Bible Verses

Are you fed up with questioning your abilities or feeling like a failure? See the 10 “Who I Am in Christ”Bible texts for a fresh perspective on your identity! My kid told me a few weeks ago that a few guys were picking on him at recess, and I was shocked to hear it. They were apparently calling him names, which made him feel depressed. As his mother, I despise the fact that he has to go through this. But I also recognize that it is a normal part of growing up, and that it is my responsibility as his mother — not to remove all of the bullies from his life, but to educate him how to deal with them in a mature manner.

  1. “No…” “No!
  2. Just because someone says something does not imply that it is correct.
  3. And, I’m not sure about you, but I couldn’t care less about what cruel, bad, bullies have to say, could I?” Of course, as adults, it’s rather simple for us to see when other people are being bullies to us and when we shouldn’t pay attention to them.
  4. Remember that the MEANEST persons most women face these days are, according to my observations, themselves.
  5. Check read my post, How to Capture Every Thought (It’s Easier Than You Think!) for more information.
  6. I’m confident that you’ll identify some of those deceptions in your own life.
  7. The two most effective methods of accomplishing this are to form the habit of reading your Bible on a regular basis and to learn how to study your Bible for yourself.
  8. It’s because, as we all know, we don’t pay attention to cruel, unjust bullies–even when those bullies are ourselves.
  9. It is not important what the rest of the world thinks of us.
  10. Whenever I’m up against a bully, even if that bully is looking me in the eyes, I keep my attention on who I am as a child of God.

It’s important to gently (or more sternly if necessary!) remind myself that “I am who God has declared me to be.” And understanding who you are in Christ – truly knowing who you are – and discovering your identity in Christ? Everything changes as a result of this.
