The film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical was released in 1973, and it is still in theaters today. In the event that you were unaware of this, you would most likely find it out very fast. Things get increasingly bad for him, and his supporters are pushed to the final test as his destiny is sealed.
The journey to the cross is made a little easier by a visit to King Herod (Josh Mostel), which occurs during one of the film’s most famous musical pieces.
Additionally, they are able to subdue him when the very presence of Jesus causes him to lose control and throw a bread roll.
However, to reject it as “light-hearted” in the same manner that Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is dismissed as “light-hearted” would be incorrect.
That would be far too simple.
That is why it has survived the test of time.
In JCS, we see the difficult journey of faith, as well as the price that must inevitably be paid along the way. Anyone who watches this film and continues to believe that religious belief is equivalent with believing in Santa Claus should be ashamed of themselves on a deep level.
