Does the Bible Give a Time Frame for the Second Coming?

The most contentious issue in Christian eschatology is the precise date of the Second Coming of Christ. Is it more likely that Christ will return to Earth before or after the Millennium? Premillennialists are those who think that Jesus will return before the Millennium and personally preside over the 1,000 years of peace that will follow. “Postmillennialists” are those who think that Christ will return only after his Church has established a Golden Age on Earth have come to this conclusion. Premillennialism Makes a Big Comeback

For over 1,500 years, Augustine’s symbolic interpretation of the Second Coming controlled the Church, but then along came a 19th-century preacher called John Nelson Darby and changed everything. The Irish reformer was certain that the Church was in ruins and that the end of the world was near. He was right. Darby discovered that God’s creation was split into seven separate years or “dispensations,” the last of which was the Millennium, based on a literal reading of the Bible’s apocalyptic prophecies, according to Darby.

Darby was known for his fiery premillennial teaching.

Darby’s imaginative interpretation of the Second Coming and the end of the world became known as “premillennial dispensationalism,” and it eventually came to dominate evangelical Christianity’s apocalyptic outlook.

According to Hal Lindsey, who wrote the book, it was one of the first to clearly relate biblical predictions of the Second Coming to contemporary world events such as the end of the Cold War and the restoration of the Jewish state of Israel.

The other extreme: Where is the promise of His coming?

When bogus preachers forecast specific dates for the end of the world on a consistent basis, it only serves to increase the amusement and cynicism of many people. We should not let the fact that we do not know when Jesus will come diminish our sense of urgency and purpose. Preparing for the second coming

So, what can we do to make the most of the time we have left until Jesus Christ returns? Here are a some of the things He instructs us to carry out:

Allowing society’s lawlessness to undermine our love for God, His law, and other people (12 And since lawlessness will flourish, many people’s love for God and His law will become chilly

Suffer through trials and persecutions to the end (13 But he who endures to the end will be saved

Contribute to the endeavor to proclaim the good news of God’s Kingdom in the latter days (14). It will be proclaimed in every nation as a witness to all peoples, and then the end will come. Why has Jesus’ return taken so long?

What has caused Christ’s return to be so late in coming? Why have generations of Christians waited patiently yet have not yet gotten the fulfillment of their hopes and dreams? It is, according to Peter, because of God’s love. It is said, “The Lord is not slack about His promise, as some regard slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all come to repentance. ” (9 When it comes to His promise, the Lord is not slack as some would have us believe, but is longsuffering toward us, not wishing for any to perish but rather that all come to repentance.

[2 Peter 3:9]”> God is putting His great, everlasting plan into action.
It is his desire that those of us who are joyfully anticipating Christ’s second coming spread the good news of the Kingdom of God to people who are living in these last times.
No, we don’t have a date for when Jesus is going to return.
Moreover, He will deliver His magnificent Kingdom on our planet.

Why Christians Stopped Talking About Jesus’ Second Coming

This past Sunday marked the beginning of the season of Advent. However, while the season is widely seen as a period of preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth on Christmas, traditionally, the emphasis has been on the Second Coming of Christ. In Christian theology, the notion of Jesus’ Second Coming has historically been a primary focal point: it has served as a motivating factor for missions, a source of hope for Christians who are suffering, and a framework for Christian worship. Christians, particularly evangelical Christians in the United States, have been affected by discussions of Jesus’ return.

Beginning with Hal Lindsey’sLate Great Planet Earth in the 1970s and continuing through the Left Behind novels of the 1990s, Baby Boomer evangelicalism has been particularly fixated on the End Times.

Quick to Listen this week focused on why that would be the case and how having a firm grasp of the Second Coming might be beneficial as we manage the pandemic and other crises.

Vince Bacote is an assistant professor of theology at Wheaton College, where he also serves as the director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics.
