There isn’t a single song on that album that isn’t good; they are all excellent.

All of the back covers of the original “His Hand in Mine” CD had the phrase “Jesus Knows What I Need,” also known as “Jesus Knows What I Need.” Throughout the years, it was printed as “He Knows What I Need” on the majority of the vinyl record labels for the “His Hand in Mine” album.

HE KNOWS JUST WHAT I NEED

Life may be really difficult at times. There are moments when the burdens feel nearly too much to bear. You may feel as if you are sinking and that you require someone to raise you up, but no one will do so. Sometimes you might get depressed and in need of assistance, but no one appears to understand or care about you. Friends appear to have forgotten about you, and even you may be unsure of what you require. However, there is One who is concerned, One who understands exactly what you require, often much better than you yourself understand what you require.

  1. And it is this fact that is expressed in this week’s music selection.

  7. He’s our rock and our savior at the same time.

What more could we possibly ask for?

He understands your requirements even better than you do.

He does, in fact, know just what you require.

He Knows Just What I Need – Thomas Mosie Lister

He was a 34-year-old Southerner who lived in Atlanta (you can see the city’s seal here) and had been involved in music since he was a youngster, mostly as a vocalist, but his approach had evolved only a few years before that. It’s possible that Thomas Mosie Lister’s adjustment in his music life contributed to the creation of “He Knows Just What I Need,” which he created in 1955, despite the fact that the beliefs and musical abilities had no doubt previously been gestating in his being. Was there anything in what he wrote that had been waiting to be spoken, something he’d been experiencing but hadn’t been able to articulate?

Perhaps it was the increased emphasis placed on one’s musical ability that prompted the creation of this song.

After singing in numerous Southern Gospel quartets for more than a decade in the mid-20th century, Mosie Lister moved on to a different musical position in the 1950s, which inspired the lyrics he would compose a year later in 1955.

His own music publishing company, which he founded in 1953 as an extension of his musical avocation, allowed him to create and arrange as well as publish his own music.

What was his experience like at the time, given that he and his family were residing in Atlanta at the time?

Was Mosie making a personal admission with this statement?

Mosie and his family were probably also churchgoers, which meant that he might have witnessed the heartaches of spiritual family members as well as his own.

He was well aware, either directly or vicariously, that this inner conflict was widespread, but he also understood how to approach a heart that was famished for connection.

Consider how he opens two of the lines with some crucial words – “My Jesus knows” and “My Jesus knows.” Even while he admits that the human situation might leave one feeling empty, he does not dwell in it.

Mosie must have been self-assured to write in this manner, convinced that God, maybe even via those in his immediate vicinity, might provide assistance. Even if you don’t have any proof, you should believe he’s engaged. It’s referred to as faith.
