Rejection in the Bible: 3 People Who Were Rejected

Those who have experienced rejection know they are not alone. At some time in their lives, many people in the Bible felt the same way. So let’s take a look at three of them and see what we can glean about rejection from their experiences.

1. Jesus Was Rejected

  1. After being rejected by those close to you, and having suffered as a result, it’s easy to forget that Jesus’ own followers rejected him as well.
  2. He went to his own people, and they, too, turned their backs on him.
  3. John 1:11 (New Living Translation) It is easy to make the error of underestimating what Jesus went through.
  4. Because, well, it’s Jesus, after all.

However, the fact that He was rejected indicates that He understands precisely how you feel.″If the world hates you, remember that it hated me before it hated you.″ ″If the world hates you, remember that it hated me before it hated you.″ 15:18 (John 15:18) (CSB) In fact, when Jesus first began His ministry, He had to deal with this from members of His own family, who believed He was insane and rejected Him.When his family learned what was going on, they attempted to remove him from the situation.″He’s completely out of his mind,″ they declared.Discuss how it feels to be misunderstood and rejected in Mark 3:21 (NLT).

So, what did Jesus do in response? And he started to tell them that it was necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, including rejection by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, death by beheading, and resurrection after three days, before he could be glorified. He was forthright in his discussion of it.Mark 8:31-32a (King James Version) (CSB) Jesus was well aware of and accepted the fact that He would be rejected.

  1. Then he pursued and accomplished God’s mission for him in the most unwavering and unyielding manner possible.
  2. Takeaway: Recognize and accept that you will not be loved and accepted by everyone.
  3. Fortunately, Jesus loves and welcomes you despite your shortcomings.
  4. Then continue to accomplish what God has called you to do, regardless of the outcome.

  1. And when it comes to familial rejection, does the Bible provide a more powerful illustration of this than Joseph’s story?
  2. Jealousy and a dream are the starting points in Genesis 37.
  3. In fact, Joseph’s brothers despised him so much that they devised a plan to have him murdered.
  4. Talk about being rejected by one’s family.

So let’s murder him and put him into one of the holes, shall we?And we shall see what happens to his dreams after that, since we will state that he has been consumed by a ferocious creature.37:20 (Genesis 37:20) (ESV) Fortunately, common sense prevailed and they were able to sell him into slavery in Egypt rather than execute him.Unfortunately, Joseph spent the next many years as a slave, and later in jail after being wrongly convicted of a crime, which led to his death. He was rejected again again, this time by the master whom he had served so devotedly in the previous years.

And Joseph’s master grabbed him and placed him in the jail, which was the location where the king’s captives were housed, and he remained in prison for the rest of his life.Nevertheless, who do you know who did not reject or desert Joseph?Genesis 39:20 (ESV) However, the Lord was there with Joseph in jail and demonstrated his unfailing love for him.And the Lord blessed Joseph by making him a favorite of the jail warden.

  1. Genesis 39:21 (NASB) (NLT) What to Take Away: Your sentiments and actions do not have to be dictated by your current circumstances.

  2. People, on the other hand, may reject you based on your own actions at times.

Her narrative begins in Genesis 16 when her mistress, Sarai, comes up with the ingenious notion of pressing God’s plan for her husband, Abram, to have a late-in-life heir. From a mile out, you can see the train accident on the horizon. And he entered Hagar’s house, and she became pregnant. And when she realized she was pregnant, she turned her back on her mistress, her face contemptuous.Genesis 16:4 (NIV) (ESV) Hagar’s newfound authority as a mother of children got the better of her, and she began to overstep her bounds.

And Sarai wasn’t having it, so she punished Hagar as a result of her disapproval.Apparently, things became so terrible — or Hagar had a temper tantrum, we’re not sure which — that pregnant Hagar fled into the desert to seek refuge. It was in this situation that God reached out to her, when she was feeling rejected and alone.During a journey through the wilderness on the way to Shur, an angel of the Lord came across Hagar at a stream of water.

  1. As a result, if you were Hagar, wouldn’t you be prepared to hear how your opponent is an idiot for failing to see how magnificent you are?
  2. Genesis 16:7 (NLT) That, however, was not what the angel had stated at all.
  3. This isn’t even close.
  4. In response to her plea, the angel of the Lord responded, ″Return to your master and submit yourself to her authority.″ Genesis 16:9 is a verse that describes the beginning of a new day (NLT)
Wait, what? No, “You go, girl, you’ve got this!”?
  1. See, even in the midst of her feelings of rejection, Hagar didn’t require that kind of treatment.
  2. In addition to terrible behavior, she made the mistake of fleeing on her own initiative, which made matters worse.
  3. No, Hagar didn’t want a pep talk; rather, she required the truth to be told.
  4. Which simply meant that she needed to do the right thing and be a good person all the time.

Despite the fact that her circumstances are less than perfect.Remember that even when you feel rejected, God will always give you the truth in love, no matter how hard you try. What you do with that information is entirely up to you.Hagar, on the other hand, came to her senses and returned to the place where she belonged. But she always kept in mind that God was there for her when she felt abandoned by the world.

Following that, Hagar referred to the Lord by a different name than the one she had used to address him when he talked to her.It seemed as though she was saying, ″You are the God who sees me.″ ″Have I actually seen the One who sees me?″ she said at another point.Genesis 16:13 is a verse that says (NLT)

Jesus was Rejected by His Own John 6:41-71 Bible Study with Commentary

  • Jesus informs the crowds that He has descended from Heaven.
  • A succinct summary of the ″Communion″
  • Hundreds of thousands of Jesus’ followers have turned their backs on Him.

Rejected by His Own

6:41-71 (John 6:41-71) Bible Study on a Verse by Verse Basis Verse 41 and 42: As a result, the Jews were dissatisfied with him since he claimed to be ″the bread that came down from heaven.″ Then they replied, ″Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we are familiar with, the one we are looking at?What does he say today when he says, ″I have descended from heaven″?″ The people did not recognize Jesus’ claim to be God, nor did they believe that He had descended from Heaven. They were expressing themselves as follows: ″We’ve known Him and his family for the most of his life.

How can He claim to have descended from the heavens?″ They were correct in claiming that they had known Jesus and His family throughout His life. With the exception that they were not present when the angel ″Gabriel″ appeared to Mary, and they were also not present when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, paid a visit to Elizabeth, who was at the time pregnant with ″John the Baptist.″ The same could not be said for when the Spirit in John the Baptist’s womb, although still in Elizabeth’s pregnancy, jumped when He recognized Jesus in the womb of Mary, who was still in Elizabeth’s womb.(From his conception, John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit.) ″And you will be filled with joy and gladness, and many people will celebrate at his birth, 15 because he will be exalted in the sight of the Lord. And he must abstain from the consumption of alcoholic beverages of any kind, or he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even while still in his mother’s womb.″ (Luke 1:14-15).

In addition, where were they when the shepherds were visited by the angels?Saying unto you that a Savior has been born to you in the city of David.Where were they when Jesus, speaking of God His Father, informed His parents at the age of twelve, ″Know ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?″ And what did you think when the Voice from Heaven declared, ″This is my Son in whom I am well pleased″?

  • There are more allusions, but the point is that these folks were not familiar with Jesus’ teachings.
  • As opposed to offering an explanation, Jesus just scolded their complaining.
  • Verse 43-44: ″Jesus responded by saying, ″Do not be dissatisfied among yourselves.
  • No one can come to me unless he is drawn to me by the Father who sent me.
  • And on the final day, I will bring him to his feet.″ God does not desire His people to be in a state of dissatisfaction.
  • If you recall, He had threatened to kill the people who had reacted negatively to Moses’ words.

In response, Jesus stated that if they were in the proper connection with the Father, then they would have recognized Him.Those who do not recognize Him are those who do not know their heavenly Father.Verse 45 reads as follows: ″’And they will all be instructed by God,’ it is stated in the Prophets.

The Father calls on everyone who has heard and learnt from him to come to me—″ ″All your children shall be taught by the LORD,″ Jesus was quoting from Isaiah 54:13, which says, ″All your children shall be taught by the LORD.″ These were the youngsters, by the way.Because of their relationship with God, they should have been in a position to receive the spiritual revelation necessary to comprehend His Words.God had dispatched John the Baptist to clear the way for Jesus since the people were not spiritually prepared to receive Jesus as their Messiah.46-47: ″Not that anybody has seen the Father save he who is from God; he has seen the Father.″ ″Not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God.″ God has only been seen by Jesus!Verse 48 and 49: ″I am the source of all nourishment.

Your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they perished as a result of their actions.″ In this passage, Jesus returns to the subject of bread.″Heavenly Bread,″ he explains, is greater because it provides eternal life, and he invites them to partake.Verse 50 and 51: ″This is the bread that has been sent down from heaven in order for people to be able to eat it and not perish.″I am the living bread that has been given to you from on high.″ If somebody consumes this loaf of bread, he will live indefinitely. Also, my flesh will be the bread that I will offer for the sake of the world’s survival.″ According to some, the moment we put this body down, we transform into ″nothingness.″ The Bible, on the other hand, teaches that the unsaved will perish twice: first, in the lake of fire, and second, in the lake of fire.1: The death of the body at the end of one’s physical existence on this planet (the death we are all aware of).

2: The spiritual death that occurs on the Day of Judgment (where they are totally and eternally separated from God). These individuals, who are born again, or, as Jesus put it, ″eaters of this bread,″ will only experience the death of their physical bodies before spending the rest of their lives with Christ in his eternal kingdom. Our lives do not vanish, and we do not die just to return back to life zillions of years later, as some people believe.

  1. Those who believe in Jesus, according to this Scripture, ″will live eternally,″ and that those who do not believe will perish.
  2. When our current body runs out, we shall travel to where He is and, in His timing, we will be given a new body that will be similar to His Glorified Body.
  3. By referring to Himself as the ″living food″ throughout this study, Jesus has been creating a clear distinction between himself and the manna in the desert.
  4. It was misconstrued by the people when the word ″flesh″ was used to allude to Jesus’ human life on earth.
  5. Possibly, in our day, He would say something along the lines of ″I have come from Heaven to deliver you the gift of Eternal Life.″ I’m going to make up for it with my own flesh and blood.

″The Jews then argued among themselves, asking, ‘How can this man offer us his flesh to eat?’″ says verse 52.″ It seemed as though they were taking His words literally. This time was characterized by intellectualism and civilized living. The Romans regarded themselves to be a civilized people who abhorred cannibalism, which was occasionally performed by various cults and barbarians.Because they were unaware that consuming the blood of the Lord was a symbolic figure of speech, they concluded that Christians were just another cult that practiced cannibalism, and so they persecuted and killed anyone who did not believe in Christ.

This helps to understand why the Christians were so despised by the Romans in the first place.A first-century Roman Emperor named ″Nero″ is credited with having martyred Christian bodies burned in his courtyard for the purpose of entertaining his subjects. Now, returning to the Jewish people: It’s impossible to see how they could have failed to see the figurative significance of what Jesus was saying in their minds. The author of the book of Hebrews said something similar: ″About this, we have a lot to say, yet it is difficult to explain since you have grown deaf,″ which means ″deaf″ (Heb:5:11).In addition to being deafeningly quiet, the Jews believed that because they were God’s chosen people, they were the only ones who mattered to Him.However, John 3:16 informs us that God sent Jesus because He ″so loved the World.″ ″And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiffnecked people: Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of thee a great nation,″ God said after the Jews had built a golden calf idol.

  1. If it hadn’t been for Moses, God would have destroyed the entire nation (Deut 9:13-14).
  2. God revealed himself much later, saying: ″″Go and tell these people that they can hear but not comprehend, and that they can see but not see.″ Make the people’s hearts swell and their eyelids get heavy with fatigue.
  3. to prevent them from seeing and hearing with their eyes and hearing with their ears in order to convert and get cured″ (See Isaiah 6:9-10 for more information.) And here’s a passage from Scripture: ″This group of people has brought the prophesy of Isaiah to fruition, which states that by hearing you will hear but not comprehend, and by seeing you will see but not discern.

For this reason, these people’s hearts have become foul, their ears have become dull of hearing, and their eyes have been closed in case they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and comprehend with their hearts at any point in the future, and I should heal them.″ (Matthew 13:14, NIV) As far as we know, these Scriptures, which were penned hundreds of years ago, were still in effect.Verse 53 reads, ″I am the Lord’s servant.″ ″After that, he spoke to the crowd: ″Truly and truly, I say to you, you will have no life in you until you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood.″ This was viewed as a forceful and unique statement by the Jewish community. They were unable to comprehend that the new ″Passover Lamb of God″ was speaking in a metaphorical manner. There was no way for them to comprehend or accept the fact that these words were coming from God’s Son, the One whom John had identified as ″The Word″ in John 1.″In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.″ God the Father sent the ″Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.″ ″(″His Son″) to the surface of the planet.

  1. The One who had previously been known as ″Spirit″ had come to earth to experience life under the confines and limitations of a human body.
  2. His Message was being sent by the ″One,″ whose methods are higher than our ways and whose thoughts are higher than our ideas, in an attempt to reach them.
  3. The message stated that ″they could not have eternal life unless He came into their lives.″ ″Whoever eats on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the final day,″ says John the Baptist in verse 54.
  4. According to Exodus 12:8, eating the Passover Lamb was mandatory.
  5. Soon, Jesus would be crucified and His blood would be shed in the name of the Father.
  6. All who believe would be welcomed into the New Covenant of Christ, and they would be given the gift of eternal life as a result.

Verse 55 and 56: ″Because my flesh is real food and my blood is true drink, I am a true man.Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood becomes one with me, and I become one with him.″ Jesus talked about the sacrifice of His flesh and the pouring of His blood on a number of different occasions. When it comes to eating and drinking, faith in who Jesus is and what He was about to do on the cross is powerfully depicted.Jesus spoke of the sacrificial offering of His body and the shedding of His blood on a number of occasions. The following is a synopsis of the ″Communion:″ Note: The ″Last Supper″ and ″Communion″ are both mentioned in the synoptic Gospels, but they are not included in this one.

This summary is meant to assist you in understanding the communion to the greatest extent feasible. As part of the Old Covenant, Israelites feasted on the ″Passover Lamb,″ and they drank the ″blood of the grape″ as a representation of the blood of the Passover Lamb.Jesus, the ″Lamb of God,″ is now known as the ″Sacrificial Lamb″ under the terms of the New Covenant.

In Luke 22:19, Jesus and His followers gathered for the Passover feast, the final meal they would have together before His execution on the cross.Christ established the ″New Covenant″ at this meal and instructed His followers to partake of the ″Communion″ in His memory.A small cracker or unleavened bread is eaten during the ″communion,″ symbolizing Jesus’ body, and then the grapefruit is taken, symbolizing Jesus’ blood, during the ″communion.″ Ultimately, this is done to affirm one’s complete trust and dedication to Jesus’ New Covenant.

  1. The Old Covenant has been abolished and is no longer valid.
  2. It has been superseded by the ″New Covenant″ established by Jesus.
  3. ″As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me will also live because of me,″ says Jesus in verse 57.
  4. God the Father sent Jesus, and He lives because of the Father, and whomever feeds on Jesus will live, according to the Scriptures (have eternal life).

Verse 58 reads, ″ ″Instead of eating and dying from the food the ancestors ate, we are eating the bread that came down from the sky.Anyone who consumes this bread will live indefinitely.″ The bread that fell down from heaven represents the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. The sort of bread the Israelites ate in the desert, which led to their deaths later. This ″Bread from Heaven″ is actually the ″Son of God,″ who is the one who gives the invitation to eternal life.Who could possibly say no to that?″Jesus stated these things in the synagogue when he was teaching at Capernaum,″ says verse 59.

Jesus is giving a sermon from the Synagogue in Capernaum, which is believed to be just next door to Peter’s house. The ″Words of Eternal Life″ are extended further in this section of the study by Jesus.Verse 60 reads, ″I am the Lord’s servant.″ ″A large number of his followers were taken aback by the statement, saying, ″This is a difficult word; who can listen to it?″ According to the Scriptures quoted above, many people, including Jesus’ disciples, regarded Jesus’ claims to be incomprehensible and difficult to believe.″But Jesus, seeing that his followers were dissatisfied with this, asked them, ″Do you take offense at this?″ (verse 61).″ After all of the marvels you have witnessed, is this going to be a stumbling barrier for you?

He could have said something like that.Being aware of his own knowledge: This refers to Jesus’ miraculous capacity to understand what is going on in the minds of men.Do you feel offended, dissatisfied, shocked, or scandalized by what you’ve read?Is it possible that you would be so insulted that this will become a stumbling block for you?Jesus was saying.

  1. ″But what if you were to witness the Son of Man rising to the place where he had been before?″ says verse 62.
  2. What they had witnessed up to this point was little in comparison to what was to come; He would shortly be crucified, die, rise from the tomb, and ascend to Heaven, where He had previously been for a period of time greater than they could comprehend.
  3. Verse 63 is a proverbial ″aha″ moment ″The Spirit is the source of life; the flesh is of no assistance at all.
  4. The words I’ve spoken to you are full of energy and vitality, just like you are.″ He was referring to the gift of the Holy Spirit when he said this.
  • The phrase ″The Words I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life″ refers to the contrast between the Spirit and the flesh that Jesus was making.
  • The flesh, or natural man, is completely worthless and of no assistance.
  • The answer can be found in the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the source of everlasting life. Many of the Jewish interpreters were masters of metaphorical interpretation, as was the case with many of the other interpreters.Unbelievably, they fail to grasp the significance of His words, ″The Words I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life?″ ″However, there are some of you who do not believe,″ says verse 64.(Because Jesus knew from the beginning who those who would not believe were, and he also knew who those who would betray him were.) ″Some people back then were like our modern-day mind readers, and they were referred to as ″wonder workers.″ Some individuals believed that they could read the minds or hearts of others.Only God was the ″Searcher of Hearts,″ the only One who had access to the innermost thoughts and feelings of all people.Judas Iscariot, one of the disciples whom Jesus had personally hand-picked, was the one who would betray Him, and Jesus was aware of this in advance.

  • ″And he replied, ″This is why I told you that no one can approach to me unless he has been granted permission by the Father.″ Verse 65: ″And he said, As in the previous instance, Jesus recognizes that their trust is lacking and emphasizes the Father’s action.
  • Salvation is a gift given to those who believe in and trust in Jesus, and no one can come to Him unless the Father allows them permission to do so.
  • ″As a result of this, many of his disciples went back and no longer walked with him,″ says verse 66.
  • They had been isolated from the actual Believers at this point in time.
  1. According to certain Bible passages, the departure of these disciples was an act of apostasy, which means ″abandoning what one has believed (as in a faith).″ Although we are not given a particular number, it is probable that hundreds, if not thousands, of people rejected Jesus and declared that they would no longer walk with Him.
  2. At an earlier point in this research, He had fed thousands of these same individuals, many of whom had gone on to become Followers.
  3. Believers are said to have abandoned their faith in Jesus at this point, which is the sole instance of this occurring in the New Testament.
  4. They turned their backs on Him because of His doctrine.

Jesus didn’t chase after them or urge them to come back to him.He simply walked away from them.If there is a place in Scripture where Jesus chased after, begged with, or demanded people to follow and believe in Him, I am not aware of it.″I’m pleased they rejected Him because they didn’t deserve Him,″ a part of me thinks, while another part of me acknowledges that I, too, am undeserving.Following that, there is a stark contrast between the faith of the twelve and the faith of those who have abandoned it.

″Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, ″Do you want to go away with me as well?″ The original twelve chosen by hand were not among those who turned their backs on Him.When Jesus addresses His followers as a group, He probes their faith and inquires as to whether they, too, will be leaving.″Lord, to whom shall we go?″ said Simon Peter in response to his question.

  • You have the words of eternal life in your possession.″ The twelve, through the intercession of Simon Peter, express their complete and total confidence in Jesus.
  • ″And we have believed in you, and we have come to know that you are the Holy One of God,″ says verse 69.
  • The phrase ″Holy One of God″ positively identifies Jesus as the Son of God (God the Son).
  • Demons, who were well aware of Jesus’ identity, once used this exact phrase when speaking to him (Mark 1:24 and Luke 4:34).
  • ″We have believed, and we know, that you are the Messiah,″ Peter declares to Jesus.″ Verse 70 and 71: ″Jesus said, ″Did I not chose you, the Twelve?″ he inquired.
  • Despite this, one of you is a demon.″ He was referring to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon Iscariot, because he was one of the Twelve who was about to betray him.″ The previous day, Jesus had stated that ″there are those of you who do not believe.″ Peter’s use of the term ″we″ is qualified by the fact that ″one of you is a demon,″ according to Jesus.
  • JUDAS, the disciple who rejected and betrayed Jesus, was one of the original Twelve, having been personally chosen by Jesus himself as a member of His inner circle.
  • The twelve disciples had seen and heard enough to be convinced that Jesus was who He claimed to be.
  • But they still had some questions.
  • They were expressing themselves as follows: ″Where could we possible move from here?
  • There is no one else who can fulfill the role of ″Deliver.″ We may not fully comprehend everything you are saying, but we are convinced that you are the Messiah, and we will not abandon you.″ This brings us to the conclusion of our study of ″Jesus is Rejected by His Own.″ The following is the subject of our next study: The Home Page of the Trusting in Jesus website has been rejected by His own.
