Where in the Bible does it say that Jesus is God?

In a number of instances, the Bible teaches that Jesus is God. There is, however, no place in the Bible where the precise three words ″Jesus is God″ appear. However, we do not require those precise words to establish that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh because the Scriptures announce Jesus’ divinity in a variety of ways. There are several texts in the Bible that teach this. ″In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God,″ says John 1:14, ″and the Word was God.″ And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw His glory, such as we had never seen before, glory as befitting the only born Son of God, full of love and truth.″ John 5:18 says, ″For this reason, the Jews were wanting all the more to murder Him, since He not only was violating the Sabbath, but He was also calling God His own Father, therefore declaring Himself to be equal with God.″ The Bible says in John 8:24, ″I stated thus to you: ″I told you that you would die in your sins,″ because ″unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.″ (The Greek language does not have the pronoun ″he.″ Compare Exodus 3:14 with John 8:58
John 8:58 with Exodus 3:14. The Bible says in John 8:58, ″Jesus responded to them, ″Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the one who existed before Abraham was born.″ The Bible says in Exodus 3:14, ″And God said to Moses, ″I AM WHO I AM,″ and He also instructed Moses to tell the sons of Israel, ″The I AM has sent me to you.″ The Bible says in John 20:28, ″Thomas responded and exclaimed to Him, ‘My Lord and my God!’″ The book of Colossians 2:9 says, ″For in Him all the whole of Deity lives in bodily form.″ Have this attitude in yourself that was also demonstrated in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming willing to die—even death on a cross.
Heb. 1:8, ″However, of the Son, He says, ″Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the upright scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.″

As a result, it should be abundantly evident that the writers of the New Testament thought Jesus to be divine in nature.

Did Jesus Say He Was God

QUESTION: Did Jesus declare himself to be God?
A:The gospel of John, which shows Jesus Christ as fully deified, is frequently referred to as the ″I AM″ book because of the way in which He is presented.
In the book of John, Jesus declares, ″I AM.″ This is repeated again and over again.

This statement ″I AM″ held a great deal of significance for the knowledgeable Jew.
It was a declaration by Jesus that He is the Son of God.
Why?
When God called Moses to lead the country of Israel out of Egypt in the Old Testament, He instructed Moses to inform the people of the nation that ″I AM″ had sent him (Exodus 3:13-15).
Jehovah is the covenant God of Israel, and his name means ″I AM.″ Consequently, God’s name for the nation of Israel is the big ″I AM,″ and Jesus’ remark ″I AM″ is a strong indicator that He was stating, ″I AM God.
Is it true that Jesus claimed to be God?

Jesus claimed to be on an equal footing with God the Father ″They asked Jesus what he meant by this.He replied, ″My Father is always at work, and I am working as well.″ The Jews worked even harder to put him to death since he was not only violating the Sabbath, but he was also referring to God as his own Father, so elevating himself to the status of God ″ (John 5:17-18).″Jesus then screamed out, while still speaking in the temple courts, ‘Yes, you recognize me, and you understand whence I come from.’ I did not come to this place on my own, but the one who sent me is genuine.You may not be familiar with him, but I am familiar with him since I am from him and he sent me.’″ (See John 7:28-29.) ″Afterwards, they inquired as to his whereabouts: ‘Where is your father?’ ‘You don’t know who I am or who my Father is,’ Jesus responded.’If you knew me, you would know my Father as well,’ says the narrator.″ (See also John 8:19) ″’I tell you the truth,’ Jesus responded, ‘I am the one who existed before Abraham was born!’″ (See also John 8:58.) ″I and the Father are one,″ says the Son (John 10:30).

As a result, the Jews were undoubtedly aware that Jesus was claiming to be God, and they attempted to have Him killed as a result of His claims.
″ ‘But what about the one whom the Father chose as his own and sent into the world?’ As a result, why are you accusing me of blasphemy because I stated, ″I am God’s Son″?
Do not trust me until I demonstrate what my Father demonstrates.
Although you may be skeptical, accept the miracles, even if they are performed by me, in order to know and comprehend that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.’ They attempted to apprehend him once more, but he managed to elude them.″ (See also John 10:36-39.) This is only one instance in which the Jewish authorities attempted to arrest or stone Jesus, but He managed to evade capture or execution since His time had not yet arrived to be executed (John 8:20).
Jesus further confirmed to the disciples that He is the Son of God.

″You would be familiar with my Father if you were to get to know me.From this point forward, you will be considered to know him and to have seen him.’ ‘Lord, show us the Father, and that will be sufficient for us,’ Philip answered.In response, Jesus said, ‘Don’t you recognize me, Philip, even after all this time that I have been among you?Anyone who has seen me has also seen the Father, and vice versa.

What do you mean when you say, ″Show us the Father″?Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me, and that the Father is in the Father?You should know that the words I speak to you are not solely mine.Instead, it is the Father, who is present in me, who is carrying out his mission.Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or at the very least believe me on the basis of the proof provided by the miracles.

That day will come when you will comprehend that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and you are in me.’ I am in my Father.’″ (See also John 14:7-11 and 20.) The prayer of Jesus Christ, who served as the high priest, is recorded in the seventeenth chapter of John.″After saying this, Jesus raised his eyes to the heavens and prayed: ‘Father, the hour has come.Make your Son a source of honor so that your Son may make you a source of honor.Because you delegated authority to him over all people in order for him to be able to bestow eternal life to all those whom you have given him.This is everlasting life: that they may come to know you, the one and only true God, as well as Jesus Christ, whom you have sent to save them.

Jesus states the following in this beautiful prayer: ″My prayers aren’t only for them, either.I pray also for those who may come to believe in me as a result of their message, Father, that they may all become one in the same way that you are in me and I am in you.May they be in us as well, so that the world would believe that you have sent me to them ″ (John 17:20-21).

Did Jesus say He is God?

Answer to the question It is true that Jesus never spoke the precise words, ″I am God,″ but he did say something similar.
He did, however, assert His divine status in a variety of ways, and those who heard Him understood exactly what He was saying.
″I and the Father are one,″ Jesus declared in John 10:30, for example.

When the Jews who heard Him make that speech realized He was claiming to be God, their reaction was as follows: ″His Jewish opponents grabbed up stones to stone him″ (John 10:31).
The reason they were attempting to stone Him was blasphemy, they said.
″Because you, a mere man, claim to be God,″ they stated when He inquired as to their motivation (John 10:33).
The punishment for blasphemy was death by stoning (Leviticus 24:16), and the Jews accused Jesus of claiming to be God in no uncertain terms.
″Very honestly I tell you,…
before Abraham was born, I am!″ Jesus said in another remark, claiming to be God: ″Very genuinely I tell you,…

before Abraham was born, I am!″ (See also John 8:58.) When the Jews heard Him, they immediately realized that He was claiming preexistence and, more importantly, that He was Yahweh, the great ″I AM″ of Exodus 3:14.They attempted to stone Him for blasphemy on this occasion, as they had on the previous one.This is how Jesus’ divinity is shown in the Gospel of John, which opens with this statement: ″In the beginning, God created the Word; then God became the Word, and the Word became God″ (John 1:1, emphasis added).According to verse 14, the Word is identified as follows: ″The Word became human and made his abode among us.″ ″We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.″ ″We have seen the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.″ John is saying that the Word (Jesus) is God, and that He left heaven to come to earth in the shape of a man in order to live among mankind and demonstrate the glory of God the Father.John is also affirming that the Word (Jesus) is God.

The disciples of Jesus were there when Jesus declared His divinity to them.
The doubting disciple Thomas came to believe in Jesus’ divinity after His resurrection, proclaiming Him to be ″my Lord and my God″ (John 20:28).
If Jesus had not been the Son of God and the Son of Man, He would have corrected Thomas, but He did not; Thomas proclaimed the truth in his statement.
After witnessing Jesus walking on the water, His followers fell on their knees in reverence (Matthew 14:33).
When He came to them after the resurrection, they prostrated themselves at His feet and worshipped Him, as Scripture says (Matthew 28:9).

The disciples were well aware of the consequences of blasphemy under the Mosaic Law, but they continued to worship Jesus as God, and Jesus welcomed their devotion.Jesus never reprimanded anyone for worshiping Him, and He regarded their adoration as good and legitimate in every way.The divinity of Jesus is acknowledged throughout the New Testament.Timothy 2:13 reminds us that Paul was anxiously awaiting ″the manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,″ and he encourages us to do the same.

Despite the fact that both Paul and John claimed that Jesus created the cosmos (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16–17), Genesis 1:1 plainly states that God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).This can only imply that Jesus is the Son of God.The Father, too, referred to Jesus as God: ″About the Son, he declares, ‘Your throne, O God, will remain forever and ever,’″ the Bible states (Hebrews 1:8, quoting Psalm 45:6).Is it true that Jesus claimed to be God?Yes, in a variety of ways, including by appropriating the titles and qualities of God for his own.

″Jesus is Lord″ (Greek: o, kyrios Iesous) is the shortest credal affirmation found in the New Testament, and it is one of numerous somewhat more elaborate versions of the theme found elsewhere in the Bible.
Among Christians, it serves as a declaration of faith for the vast majority who believe that Jesus is both completely human and fully divine.

Background

It was a courtesy title for social superiors in antiquity, but its fundamental meaning was ″ruler″ during the time of its widespread use.
Because kings all across the world were addressed as ″Lord″ and were frequently regarded celestial creatures, the title ″Lord″ came to have religious connotations.
Kurios was substituted for adonai, a special form of the Hebrew adon = ″lord,″ when the Hebrew Bible, which was written at least two centuries before Christianity, was translated into Greek in the Septuagint.

The divine tetragrammaton YHVH was no longer read aloud and was replaced with adonai instead.
When the Roman Emperor Octavian was given the title ″Augustus″ in 27 BC, it had religious undertones, implying a particular link with the realm of the gods, which was symbolised by the cult of the Emperor’s ″genius,″ a disguised kind of emperor-worship that survived until the early Christian era.
Refusing to respect the national gods was disloyal and similar to sabotage, as was the decision to do so.

Kelly points out statements that seem like creeds that are credited to Paul the Apostle, despite the fact that they never constituted a set, uniform creed.
The most common and shortest was ″Jesus is Lord,″ which can be found in 1 Corinthians 12:3 and Romans 10:9, and which was probably used in the baptisms referred to in Acts 8:16, 19:5, and 1 Cor 6:11, since their being described as ″in the name of the Lord Jesus″ certainly seems to imply that ″the formula ‘Jesus is Lord’ had a place in the rite.″ The phrase ″Jesus Christ is Lord″ might be expanded to read ″Jesus Christ is Lord,″ as in Philippians 2:11.
In the early days, the same formula ″Jesus is the Christ″ was discovered, but it sank into obscurity as its original Messianic significance was forgotten, and the formula itself became obsolete.
The assertion that ″Jesus is the Son of God″ had a longer-term impact was of greater consequence.
These were elucidated by passages such as 1 Corinthians 15:3–7 and Romans 1:3–4, which describe Christ’s work of salvation and the existence of witnesses to his resurrection, and he goes on to list another ten examples of passages in which the name of Jesus is attached to ″selected incidents in the redemptive story″ in the following pages of the book of Revelation.

Search the Scriptures: Why do you call Him Lord?

Christians have always referred to the man Jesus as ″the Lord Jesus Christ,″ and they have done so since the commencement of the Christian faith.
On the day of Pentecost, as Peter delivered the complete Gospel for the first time, he concluded his sermon with the stirring words, ″Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you killed.″ (Acts 2:36; English Standard Version) Following then, the phrase appears around 80 more times in the New Testament.
The title Christ, which means ″anointed″ in Greek and is identical with the Hebrew word ″messiah,″ alludes to Christ’s selection by God Himself as the Messiah.

In the Old Testament, priests and kings alike were anointed with oil to indicate God’s favor upon them, and this practice continued till the present day.
Jesus is both King and Priest for His people, and He has been anointed by God with the Holy Spirit, and He has been chosen to be His vehicle of salvation for those who believe.
(See Luke 4:18 and Acts 10:38 for examples.) The question is, why should Christians address Jesus as ″Lord?″ What exactly is the importance of this?
The English term ″Lord″ refers to a person who possesses great power and authority, particularly in reference to himself or herself.
The name derives from an Old English word that means ″bread-keeper″ or ″bread-seller.″ That is, one’s Lord was the person who provided one with food and protection for one’s own well-being and survival.
As a result, in the English language, it is a title of nobility that has survived from the feudal era and is given to one’s lord or ruler.

The Greek term ″kurion,″ which is translated as ″Lord″ in the Bible, has a similar meaning to the English word ″Lord,″ however it comes from a different root and signifies a person in a position of power.It was often used in a slang sense to signify ″sir,″ but it was most appropriately used to denote possession and authority.To put it another way, to address someone as ″kurion″ was to accept their ownership over one’s own self as a result of their higher power.As Christians, we refer to Jesus as Lord because He is superior to ourselves and because He is the ultimate authority in our life.A Christian is a member of Christ’s body.

As a result, the term ″Lord″ should not be used lightly; rather, it should represent the central place that Christ occupies in our lives, in our priorities, and in our decision-making.
He should be the most significant person we know, in every sense of the word.
This renown is His, and he has earned it.
It belongs to Him since He is the Son of God, our Creator, and the sustainer of all life on the face of the planet.

Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide (JILCW), also known as Jesus Is Lord Church (JIL), is a Christian megachurch established in the Philippines that is affiliated with the Jesus Is Lord Movement.
In 2018, it claimed 5 million members in 60 countries, describing itself as a Full Gospel, Christ-centered, and Bible-based church.
The majority of our members who live abroad are overseas Filipino workers and their dependents.

Its headquarters are in Manila, but it currently has offices at Ortigas Center, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila, Greenhills, San Juan, and Bocaue, Bulacan, among other locations.

History

The 39th Anniversary of JIL was celebrated at Luneta.
It was at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, when Eddie Villanueva, a former atheist and activist who had also worked as a professor, convened 15 Bible study participants in 1978 to start The Jesus Is Lord Church (JIL) (then known as Philippine College of Commerce).
Villanueva was a professor of economics and finance at the university, and he used his position to preach the Gospel to his pupils.

After starting with 15 students, JIL has expanded to more than 5 million members and has built churches all throughout the Philippines, as well as in neighboring Asian nations and in Europe, Australasia, North and South America, the Middle East, and Africa, among other places.
ICare, JIL Christian Schools/JIL Colleges Foundation Inc., and the JIL JIL Church Worldwide have all reached many more millions of people through their media ministries, which include television and radio broadcasts, literature and video productions.
The JIL JIL Church Worldwide celebrated its 39th anniversary on October 27, 2017 at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila, with the theme ″Know Your God.″

In recognition of the truth that the life of the church is its people, the Life Group Network (LGN) is an arm of the JIL ministry that exists to help people connect with one another.
Lifegroups are small groups that give both formal and non-formal means to ministering and equipping to those in their community.
Eventually, these small organizations would coalesce into networks that would cater to the needs of various age groups: the Children’s Net, the Kristiyanong Kabataan para sa Bayan (Christian Youth for the Nations), the Young Adults Network, the Men’s Net, and the Women’s Net, among others.

The Kristiyanong Kabataan para sa Bayan – Christian Youth for the Nation Movement (KKB-CYN) is the name of the organization’s youth ministry, which includes members ranging in age from 13 to 22 years. It is involved in campus evangelism and is primarily concerned with communicating with college students. Senator Joel Villanueva, who was elected in 2016, serves as the organization’s leader.

JIL Worship

Jehovah’s Witnesses for Israel (JIL Worship), commonly known as Musikatha, is an international Christian recording ministry and the primary music arm of the Jesus Is Lord Church, dedicated to publishing and producing inspirational and life-transforming praise and worship songs.
It all started in 1996 with the help of JIL’s in-house musicians, vocalists, and composers.
Banal Mong Tahanan, Be Unto You, Pupurihin Ka Sa Awit, Harana sa Hari, Pagsambang Wagas, Wildfire, and Speechless are some of the more well-known and extensively utilized praise and worship CDs, including special albums for children, youth, and just about any God-seeking person among them.

How Early Church Leaders Downplayed Mary Magdalene’s Influence by Calling Her a Whore

She was Mary of Magdala, one of Jesus of Nazareth’s early disciples, and she was one of the most famous women in the world.
It is said that she journeyed with him, witnessed his Crucifixion, and was one of those who were informed of his Resurrection, all according to the Scriptures.
Everybody, from early church officials and historians to authors and filmmakers, has contributed to the revision and expansion of the tale of Mary Magdalene throughout history.

On the one hand, they downplayed her significance by stating she was a prostitute, a wrecked woman who repented and was rescued by Christ’s teachings.
On the other hand, they emphasized her value by claiming she was a prostitute, a ruined woman who repented and was saved by Christ’s teachings.
Mary Magdalene, on the other hand, is represented in several early Christian scriptures as more than just a mere follower; she is also depicted as Jesus’ close companion—which some have taken to suggest his wife.
Which begs the question: is there any truth to either of these tales?

What the Bible Says About Mary Magdalene

However, only the Gospel of Luke discussed Mary Magdalene’s role in Jesus’ life and ministry, listing her among ″some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities″ (Luke 8:1–3).
All four canonical gospels of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) noted Mary Magdalene’s presence at Jesus’ Crucifixion, but only the Gospel of Luke discussed her role in his life and ministry.
According to Luke, when Jesus drove out seven devils from her, Mary joined a group of women who went with him and his twelve disciples/apostles, ″proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.″ They were ″proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.″ However, although Magdalene is not a surname, it is associated with the city of Magdala, which is located in Galilee, in the northernmost area of ancient Palestine, and from whence Mary hailed (now northern Israel).

In the words of Robert Cargill, an associate professor of classical and religious studies at the University of Iowa who is also the editor of the Biblical Archaeology Review, ″Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ early supporters.″ ″She was mentioned in the Gospels, which indicates that she was significant.
There were hundreds, if not thousands, of followers of Jesus, but we don’t know the names of the majority of them, according to what we know.
As a result, the fact that she has been identified is significant.″ Mary Magdalene had an important role in the tale of the Resurrection, which took place after Jesus’ crucifixion, which she observed from the foot of the cross with many other women, and after all of Jesus’ male disciples had fled from the scene.
In accordance with the gospels, Mary went to Jesus’ tomb on Easter Sunday, either alone herself (according to the Gospel of John) or in company with several women, and discovered that the tomb was vacant.
The ladies are the ones who go to the disciples and inform them what has happened, as Cargill points out.
That’s crucial since they were the ones who found that Jesus had resurrected from the dead.

Mary Magdalene as sinner

Because of Mary Magdalene’s obvious significance in the Bible—or maybe because of it—some early Western church leaders attempted to minimize her power by presenting her as a sinner, notably as a prostitute, according to the Bible.
In Cargill’s words, ″There are many academics who think that because Jesus empowered women to such a great extent early in his career, it made some of the males who would govern the early church uncomfortable later on.″ In response to this, there were two different reactions.
She was to be turned into a prostitute, for example.″ Early church leaders conflated Mary with other women mentioned in the Bible in order to portray her as the original repentant whore.

These women included an unnamed woman, identified in the Gospel of Luke as a sinner, who bathes Jesus’ feet with her tears, dries them, and applies ointment to them (Luke 7:37-38), as well as another Mary, Mary of Bethany, who also appears in Luke.
Pope Gregory the Great clarified this confusion in a sermon in 591 A.D., saying, ″We think that the Mary, whom Luke names the wicked woman and whom John calls Mary, is the Mary from whom seven demons were evicted according to Mark.″ ‘By becoming a prostitute, she has diminished in importance.’ It has a negative impact on her in some manner.
Look at what she did for a job, and you can see why she couldn’t have been a leader,″ Cargill adds.
″Of course, the second option was to advance Mary to the next level.
Some believe she was actually Jesus’ wife or friend, rather than his mother.

Is there any further evidence?

Mary Magdalene as Jesus’s wife

While some early Christians wanted to downplay Mary’s influence, others sought to emphasize her as a source of inspiration.
Several centuries after Jesus’ death, the Gospel of Mary, a document dating from the second century A.D.
that was discovered in Egypt in 1896, ranked Mary Magdalene higher in wisdom and influence than Jesus’ male disciples.

She was also extensively featured in the so-called Gnostic Gospels, a collection of books thought to have been authored by early Christians as far back as the second century A.D.
but which were not discovered until 1945, near the Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi, and which were written in Greek.
According to one of these manuscripts, referred to Mary Magdalene as Jesus’ friend and said that Jesus loved her more than the other disciples.
This document is known as the Gospel of Philip.
Possibly the most contentious statement in the scripture was that Jesus used to kiss Mary ″frequently on her.″ Damage to the writing rendered the final word illegible, while some scholars have substituted the word ″mouth″ for the unreadable term.
In the years after its publication, Dan Brown’s enormously popular mystery The Da Vinci Code has been consumed by tens of millions of readers worldwide.

The premise of the novel revolves around the long-held belief that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had children together.This concept was also at the heart of The Last Temptation of Christ, a novel written by Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis in 1955 that was subsequently made into a film directed by Martin Scorsese, as well as the cinematic adaptation of the novel.And then there was the discovery of a previously unknown papyrus fragment in 2012 that was considered to be a copy of a second-century narrative in which Jesus refers to Mary Magdalene as ″my wife,″ according to Karen King, a professor at Harvard Divinity School.She ultimately changed her mind after being bombarded with criticism and concluded that the so-called ″Gospel of Jesus’s Wife″ was most likely a fake after defending the document’s validity.

Mary Magdalene as trusted disciple

The Bible, on the other hand, provided no indication that Mary Magdalene was Jesus’ wife.
One can’t get a sense of that type of connection from any of the four canonical gospels, despite the fact that they include the women who travel with Jesus and, in some cases, their husbands’ names as well.
The depiction of Mary Magdalene as a prostitute endured for decades after Pope Gregory the Great declared it official in his sixth-century sermon, though neither Orthodoxy nor Protestantism embraced it once their respective religions separated from the Catholic Church later in the sixth century.

At long last, in 1969, the Church acknowledged that the text of the Bible did not support such interpretation..
Mary Magdalene is now venerated as a saint by the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran churches, and her feast day is observed on July 22nd in all four of these denominations.
According to Cargill’s conclusion, ″Mary appears to have been a disciple of Jesus.″ ″What’s noteworthy is that Jesus had both male and female disciples in his ministry, which was not often the case at the time,″ says the author.
