In the New Testament, there are some excellent questions. Francis W. Dixon is the author of this piece (Scripture Reference: Acts 16:30) For this study, we should read Acts 16:14-34, which has three conversion stories: (1) Lydia (vs. 14-15); (2) a slave girl (vs. 16-18); and (3) the jailor in Philippi (vs. 19-34). (vs. 25-34). We may infer from these occurrences that the gospel is applicable to and appropriate for individuals of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. Lydia was considerably different from the slave girl, and both were quite different from the jailor, yet the gospel fulfilled the needs of each of these people in unique ways (Romans 10:12-14).

Lydia was most likely a well-educated woman who chose to become a Christian in a low-key manner.

1. THE JAILOR’S CONVICTION

Nobody ever comes to the Lord for salvation unless he or she realizes that they are in desperate need of salvation. The reason many people do not come to Christ is because they do not perceive a need for Him in their lives. In a similar vein, we only visit the doctor when we are sick. Certain events transpired in this man’s life that caused him to see his need for the Saviour, which resulted in a strong sense of conviction in his heart.

(1)He was convinced of the existence of divine things by Paul and Silas’s adoration for them. Although Paul and Silas were suffering physically and emotionally (see verses 22-24), we are told in verse 25 that they were still praising God and praying for one another. The fact that these individuals were worshiping God in the middle of their trial had a significant impact on the jailor. Unbelievers are tremendously impacted when Christians respond to pain in the proper way (Philippians 1:12). (2)The earthquake and the dread that it instilled in the jailor prompted him to reflect on God and his own spiritual need (verses 26-27). Here was a guy who had been irresponsible, inconsiderate, and irreligious, who had been jolted by an earthquake and was facing certain death. All of this jolted him up to the reality of his predicament: he was staring into eternity and was completely unprepared to die. It is possible that some people today may require an earthquake before they will see their need for Jesus, and He will frequently generously allow one to shake them out of their complacency, causing them to realize how severely they need Jesus to rescue their lives. (3)Paul and Silas’ demeanor following the earthquake persuaded the jailor that these guys were genuine Christians. Paul and Silas were still there, according to verses 27 and 28, when the jailor anticipated them to have escaped with the other inmates. However, Paul and Silas were still there, ready to be of service to this guy and bring him into the kingdom, according to verses 27 and 28. Prisoners were really assisting their own jailor in this instance! Here were some fine gentlemen

From what we can see, the jailor was led to a profound feeling of conviction about his own need for redemption. His despair could be heard as he shouted out, “What do I have to do to be saved?” Do you have a strong desire to do so?

In the absence of Christ, you are lost (Luke 19:10), dead (Ephesians 2:1), and the wrath of God is upon you (Matthew 5:23). (John 3:36). Take note that the jailor was not only convinced of His need, but he was also gloriously transformed as a result of his conviction.

2. THE JAILOR’S CONVERSION

What exactly do we mean when we say “conversion”? Simply by placing his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the jailor had a total transformation (verse 31). At one time he had been hopelessly disillusioned, afraid, and on the verge of taking his own life when he was miraculously saved and began to rejoice in the Lord, praise him for His kindness, and acknowledge him in baptism.

The extent of his conversion was astounding. Every genuine conversion culminates in a total transformation of one’s life (2 Corinthians 5:17). In fact, according to verse 33, the guy even cleaned the wounds of Paul and Silas (verse 33). What a beautiful display of grace! (2)His conversion happened all of a sudden. You may come to the conclusion after reading this study that you have not been converted
But, you may be converted right now by placing your confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour. It is plain and easy to understand — just read up Romans 10:13. (3)His conversion was inspired by the Bible. The only way to be converted is through the process outlined in Scripture, which is summarized in verse 31. Why is it necessary for us to place our faith in Jesus? Because He is the only one who can save us (Isaiah 45:22
John 14:6)

The jailor was led to a great sense of conviction, which prompted him to seek the Lord and pose the question, “What must I do to be saved?”

3. THE JAILOR’S CONFESSION

Take note of verse 32. Teaching evangelism was something Paul and Silas were involved in. This is something that is desperately needed right now. It is not enough to just tell them that they must come to Jesus and believe in Him; simple and solid guidance must be given, as happened in the instance of the jailor, who was prompted to confess his Lord immediately after receiving instruction, even though it was midnight. It is possible that he revealed his newfound faith in one of three ways:-

(1)He confessed to the police via word of mouth (verses 33-34). See Matthew 10:32-33 and Romans 10:9-10 for examples. (2)By his obedience at baptism, he confessed his faith (verse 33). They didn’t have time to waste and there were no excuses
It appeared that Paul had spoken to the jailor about Matthew 28:19, informing him that this was the Lord’s way for every believer. (3)He confessed by engaging in Christian company with other believers (verse 34). Then he gathered his family and friends around him so that they might all partake in his blessing. In fellowship, worship, and service, a real Christian proclaims Christ by uniting with others in the name of the Lord.

How do you see yourself fitting into this picture? What has happened to you that has caused you to be greatly convicted and convinced of your need for the Lord Jesus Christ? You’ve put your faith in Him, haven’t you? Have you confessed Him to others via the power of the Holy Spirit, through baptism, and by joining in company with other Christians?

What must we do to be saved?

What actions do we need to take in order to be saved? “What shall we do, that we may carry out the works of God?” the people of Capernaum inquired of Jesus. (See also John 6:28.) “What should I do in order to inherit eternal life?” a lawyer inquired of Him. (See Luke 10:25.) “What should I do in order to inherit eternal life?” a wealthy young king inquired of Him. (See Mark 10:17.) “What are we going to do?” the people wondered on Pentecost. (See Acts 2:37.) “What do I have to do to be saved?” the Philippian prisoner said.

A frequent argument nowadays, especially among evangelicals, is that you are under no obligation to do anything.
“Not everyone who calls to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father will enter the kingdom of heaven,” Jesus stated.
People who hear these words of Mine but do not act on them will be like a stupid guy who built his home on the sand, and then the rain plummeted, floods arrived, and winds blew and pounded on that building, and it crumbled to the ground.
As a result, in order to enter God’s kingdom, we must do the Father’s will.
When evangelicals assert that salvation is not contingent on one’s actions, they are in direct opposition to Jesus.
(See also John 6:28.) “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him who sent me,” Jesus said (John 6:29).
According to John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whomever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

The truth, on the other hand, brings his works into the light, so that his actions may be plainly seen as having been done in the name of God” (John 3:19-21).

A sinful man can only be saved by faith in Christ: “There is no salvation in any other, because there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Christ “died once and for all” (2 Corinthians 5:15).

“He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not just for ours, but also for the sins of the whole world,” says the Bible (1 John 2:2).

The way a person reacts to God’s promise of salvation determines whether or not he or she will be saved.

It is necessary to confess one’s religion.

Nevertheless, whomever refuses Me in front of mankind, that person I will also deny in front of My heavenly Father” (Matthew 10:32, 33).

(See Luke 10:25.) In response to Jesus’ own question, he stated, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,'” as well as “‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27).

When the lawyer attempted to justify himself by asking, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus responded by citing the parable of the Good Samaritan and instructing him to “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:29-37).

However, faith alone is meaningless without love: “Faith without love is worthless.” “Even if I had all faith in the world, such that I could move mountains, if I do not have love, I am nothing” (1 Corinthians13:2).

In order to be saved, we must follow God’s instructions.

“If you love Me, you will obey My commands,” Jesus stated (John 14:15).

In the same way that I have obeyed MyFather’s commandments and abided in His love, you will abide in My love if you keep Mycommandments (John 15:10).

When the rich young ruler informed Jesus that he had followed the commandments, Jesus said, “You are still lacking one thing.” All you need to do is sell all you have and give it to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; and come, follow Me” (Luke 18:22).

He had no choice but to repent and follow Jesus.

The following statement was made by Jesus in reference to persons who had died as a result of their sins: “Do you imagine that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they experienced such things?” “I tell you, no; but unless you repent, you will all die as well,” says the Lord (Luke 13:2, 3).

To be saved, we must throw away everything that separates us from God and follow Christ’s teachings and example.
Is there anything more that needs to be completed?
“The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; nevertheless, the person who does not believe will be punished” (Mark 16:15, 16).
That’s what Jesus has to say.

“However, when the kindness and love of Godour Savior toward man appeared, it was not through our works of righteousness that we were saved, but through His mercy that we were saved, through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on usabundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that we might be justified by His grace and become heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:4-7).

What is the means through which God saves us?

The faith of people who preach that “your salvation does not rely on what you do or do not do” has something wrong with it.

As far as salvation is concerned, they are unbelievers in the sense that they do not accept what Jesus says concerning salvation.

They also do not believe what the Holy Spirit says through James: “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:20); “You see, therefore, that a man is justified by works, and not alone by faith” (James 2:17); “You see, then, that a man is justified by works, and not only by faith” (James 2:18).

People who believe in salvation only on the basis of faith do not possess a saving faith.

When the Philippian jailor inquired, “What must I do to be saved?” the response was succinct.

In the morning, he picked them up at the same time of night and cleaned their stripes.

He then brought them into his home and served them food, and he was overjoyed because he had come to believe in God with all of his family” (Acts 15:31-34).

“What shall we do?” the people questioned on the Day of Pentecost, and Peter’s response was, “What shall we do?” (See Acts 2:37.) Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift ofthe Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).

People must believe in Jesus, confess their faith, repent, and be baptized for the remission of their sins in order to be saved.

God has such a deep love for you that He sent His Son to die on the cross in order to pay the penalty for your sin.

What determines whether or not you are rescued is how you respond.

This is the good news that Jesus and His apostles have been preaching.
