• We should never use the term ″I was only kidding″ to justify nasty, spiteful, harmful, or put-down things we have said to someone else.

• Those words are still coming from the bottom of my heart.
• As we live in the age of the internet and social media, we are more aware than ever before that words, once spoken or published, cannot be taken back.
• It’s a good idea to put off sending that enraged, confrontational, or slanderous email or post until the next day.
• We all know how difficult it is to repair the harm we have done to others or to our own reputation as a result of words made without consideration, in the heat of the moment, or while our guard was down.
• To be brought to account by God for ″every stupid thing we speak″ is a far more severe matter.

• The difficulty is in your heart — lies, desire, greed, hatred: – Jesus.

Christ Appeals to the Human Heart – Pure in Heart

As we saw in the last essay on Theology of the Body, when Christ was debating with the Pharisees about divorce, he made an appeal to the beginning of the story.He took us all the way back to Genesis so that we might recognize man for who he truly is: God’s creation.A ″whole-person picture of man″ was transmitted to the Pharisees and to us through Christ.Unlike the Pharisees, who were focused on the sins of man and demanded concessions such as divorce from Christ, Jesus was focused on the righteousness of God.

• He was well aware that man was created out of love, and for love.
• He understood that man is far more than his frailty and abysmal condition.
• When Pope John Paul II delivered his Theology of the Body, he shared with us Christ’s image of original man.
• He realized that this was the point at which the tale of mankind began.
• In keeping with the narrative, John Paul turned next to the ″historical figure.″ Man from the Past Unlike the meditation on ″original man,″ which began with Christ’s dialogue with the Pharisees (Mt.
• 19:3-8), the meditation on ″historical man″ was based on a specific piece of the Sermon on the Mount: ″You have heard that it was said, ‘You must not commit adultery.’″ ″However, I believe that anybody who stares at a woman with carnal intent has already committed adultery with her in his or her heart.″ (Matthew 5:27–28) Most people are terrified by these words because of their harshness and seeming impossibility, but John Paul II asked: ″Should we dread the severity of these words or should we have trust in their salvific meaning, in their power?″ While these remarks may appear to be a rebuke to the majority, John Paul II pointed out that God does not mandate the impossible.

• As a result, he said, Jesus’ teachings against adultery of the heart demonstrate that obtaining pure love is both feasible and reasonable.
• Moreover, John Paul added, ″The reason we sometimes believe the opposite is because we grow so tied to sin and the harmful habits that result from it that we frequently become identified with our brokenness and learn to accept it as normal.″ We tend to believe that desire is a normal emotion and that to sin is merely to be human.
• The moment we begin to consider the Church in this light, we begin to suspect that she is out of touch with the realities of life.
• Nothing could be further from the truth, on the other hand.

• The Church is where we go when we need to be brought back into the real world.
• We learn in the Catechism that Jesus ″came into the world in order to restore creation to the purity of its origins″ (CCC 2336).
• The Christian message is typically limited to the forgiveness of sins, which is a mistake.
• While this is admirable and accurate, there is so much more to it than that.
• Redemption entails more than only the removal of one’s sins.

• Christ came to remind us of the good in our lives, not only to condemn the bad.
• He came to remind us that our bodies are valuable and that they have purpose.
• The fact that the human body did not become bad as a result of original sin was something that John Paul wished to impress upon his audience thoroughly.
• Rather, the meaning and perspective of what is good were constrained, violated, and disfigured as a result of the fall and original sin.
• This is why Christ uses his teachings to appeal to the heart; he understands that this is what is necessary to restore the harm caused by the fall.
• Jesus recognizes that the heart is the beating heart of a person, and that if the heart can be restored to its original completeness, then so can the mind, eyes, body, and soul, according to the Bible.

• According to Pope John Paul II, the human heart has become ″a battleground between love and concupiscence″ in the historical man age, which we are presently living in.
• The greater the degree to which concupiscence rules the heart, the more hazy the spousal significance of the body looks to us.
• Our understanding of the meaning of the body, as well as our understanding of ourselves and others as gifts, becomes clearer when we surrender ourselves to God and his love.
• Although choosing love is not an easy decision, Christ’s words guide us on our journey.

• Despite the fact that Christ’s statements on adultery in the heart are demanding, they are not just condemnatory, as stated at the outset of this article.
• Rather, they are a summons to a higher level of devotion.
• The Lord reminds us that, even in the midst of our weakness, when we are weighed down by sin, the call of heaven is planted even deeper.
• Lust as a Complication John Paul recognized that desire is a significant impediment to our pursuit of love, and he expressed his concern about it.

This is made more difficult by the fact that many individuals associate sexual desire with lust in general.They believe that Jesus’ exhortation against desire included an admonition against sexual attraction, pleasure, and passion, as well as against lust.This has made the fight against desire far more difficult, and it not only discourages individuals from pursuing God’s love in their relationships, but it also discourages those who do practice it.According to previous observations, if sexual desire is defined as lust and the sexual drive cannot be suppressed, then purity is not only harmful but also impossible to achieve.The good news is that real love, the type God desires for us in our relationships, does not suffocate sexual desire, but rather deepens and intensifies it.John Paul II urged people all across the globe to see that passion and genuine love are not antagonists, but rather complement one another.

1. Many people recognize how passion may strengthen and refine love, but only a few are aware of the increasing influence purity has on passionate love.
2. According to American theologian Michael Waldstein, one should avoid making an exaggerated difference between eros and agape, between sexual fulfillment and the unselfish give of one’s self in a relationship between a man and a woman, in accordance with Pope John Paul II.
3. To say to one’s partner, ″I devote myself to you just for your own good,″ would not be agape, but rather a smack in the face.
4. No amount of pleasure you may provide me is of interest to me.’ Sacrifice and sensuality are two ways in which spousal love may be shown.
5. According to what has been shown so far, the love that God has for us is a truly practical and worthwhile goal.

1. John Paul’s image of human love is an optimistic one that runs counter to the widely held belief, especially among Christians, that desire is the only acceptable way to perceive a human being’s physical body.

Giving in to this dismal thought is, in the words of John Paul, ″becoming a master of suspicion.″ In his subsequent statement, he says, ″We cannot stop at the simple charge of human heart on the basis of desire and concupiscence of the body.″ Man is unable to stop himself from putting his heart in a condition of constant and irrevocable distrust….
3. In order for man to consider himself called in the name of redemption, he must believe he has been ″called with efficacy.″ Historical man, although acknowledging original sin and its consequences, cannot be characterized only by this.
4. John Paul went on to say that it is critical that he does not perceive himself as hopelessly accused and surrendered to the concupiscence of the flesh in his ″heart,″ but rather that he perceives himself as being summoned with vigor in the same heart.

2. Purity can be classified as either negative or positive.
3. Positivity and negativity are two different types of purity that must be distinguished.
4. Many have been misled by a woman’s beauty, and by her beauty, passion is kindled like a fire, as Sirach 9:8 cautions.
5. ″Turn away your eyes from a shapely lady, and do not stare attentively at beauty belonging to another.″ As John Paul describes it, this is an example of ″negative purity,″ and they are a first step on the journey to loving as we were created to love.

Many people, however, remain there, and God desires for us to go even higher.He wishes that we turn our gaze away from that which serves as a temptation for us, in order to turn our gaze within and upward toward God, in order to learn how to view the other as a person.In the words of one priest, ″Purity of heart is not found first and foremost in what we turn away from, but rather in Whom we turn toward.″ God does not want his sons and daughters to live under the shadow of scrupulosity, but he does want them to be able to have a thriving experience of love that is enabling and sustaining.Life According to the Spirit, God’s most sincere goal for us is to live life as he created us to live it, since he knows that it is only in doing so that we can achieve our true happiness and satisfaction.According to John Paul II, in order to have a pure heart, one must become open to life according to the Spirit’s leading.As a fruit of the Spirit, purity is a quality that each individual is asked to possess in order to be productive in Christ’s service.

1. The process of beginning to live one’s life in this manner results in a transformation that goes much deeper than our outward behavior.
2. He accepted that man may have ″a true and deep victory″ over lust, but that this must first be realized in the human heart before it can be realized externally.
3. What does this look like in real life?

Original sin left man with a clouded brain, a weaker will, and a hunger that was out of control.Sin also causes man to lose sight of the spousal significance of his body.One’s eyes are opened to it when one lives a Spirit-filled life.The Pope stated that as a person’s awareness of this meaning grows, ″it opens the door to a more complete discovery of the dignity of the human body,″ according to the Pope.This life also assists us in regaining the internal freedom that we had lost when we surrendered ourselves to our passions; as we advance in virtue, choosing the good becomes easier and more enjoyable as our wants are properly regulated.

1. God’s Spirit reminds us that redemption is not about overcoming our wants, but rather about mending and altering our desires so that we seek after what is genuinely good in our lives.
2. Our subjective desires are only satisfied when they are in accordance with the objective meaning of the body, and we are only content when they are.
3. The choice between love and sin is the source of the conflict that historical man must contend with.
4. It is the battleground through which we must trek if we are ever to achieve the restored and enlarged glory that God has in mind for us as a result of the resurrection.

As a result, Christ makes his final appeal to the resurrection, which will serve as the basis for our next blog entry on the Theology of the Body.

The Heart of the Matter is a Matter of the Heart

Earlier this month, Rev.David Hearn, President of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada (C&MA), delivered a commencement message to our graduating class of 2019.Here are some of the more memorable points from his speech!What a leader does has an immediate influence on people who follow him or her.

• Congratulations on reaching this milestone in your academic career.
• We recognize your dedication, perseverance, and enthusiasm in completing your studies while also striving to be agents of change in a dark world.
• ″For this aim, the Son of God was manifested, in order that He may demolish the works of the devil,″ says the Bible’s summary of Jesus’ primary mission (1 John 3:8).
• The mission given to Jesus was the same as the one given to us today.
• More than just sound theology, more than just well-learned abilities, and a burning desire to share Jesus with the world will be required if you are to be leaders who will change the course of human history.
• It will need a heart of integrity to do this!

• When it came to the reign of King David, it was stated, ″He shepherded them with honesty of heart; he guided them with deft hands″ (Psalm 78:72).
• The heart of the problem is a matter of the heart, as the saying goes.
• In the Old Testament, the term for wisdom is hakmah (wisdom).
• It was a frequent term used to describe someone who has exceptional talent.

• Hakmah, a master artisan with great talent!
• Hakmah!
• You’re a talented musician!
• We are called to live hakmah lives, as the writer of Proverbs describes them.
• He catches this concept and applies it to godly life.

• He invites us to be competent in godly living, as he describes it.
• We are in desperate need of men and women who are filled with the Spirit of Jesus and who live virtuous lives.
• In his proverb, Solomon advises us to ″above all else, guard your heart, for it is the fountain of life.″ The heart must be guarded since it is the source of life’s direction (the wellspring) and must be protected!
• It establishes the scene for our life choices, attitudes, and behaviors!
• Above and beyond all others!

A heart of integrity is a SURRENDERED heart

″Therefore, brothers, in light of God’s compassion, I implore you to present your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God – this is your spiritual act of worship,″ says Romans 12:1-2. ″This is your spiritual act of worship.″ When you have a heart of integrity, it means that you have completely given to God!

A heart of integrity is a SENSITIVE heart

Since we are guided by the Spirit, let us maintain pace with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25). Maintain a gentle and receptive heart to the promptings of the Holy Spirit at all times.

A heart of integrity is a COURAGEOUS heart

As soon as they learned that Peter and John were unschooled, regular guys, they were taken aback, and they knew that these men had been with Jesus for a period of time.(See Acts 4:13 for further information.) The threat you perceive is greater than it actually is!Jesus did not die in order to keep us safe; rather, he died in order to make us dangerous!A by-product of recognizing our identity in Christ – it is about connection with Jesus – is the ability to be bold.

• Nobody save God and the Devil is aware of your existence, but no one else is aware of your existence!
• You have the same resurrection power that resurrected Jesus from the dead!
• Imagine how our lives would be transformed if we simply accepted what God believes about us!
• You have received every spiritual blessing via your relationship with Him.
• You were selected by God before the foundation of the world to be holy and faultless in his eyes because of your faith in Him.
• According to the riches of God’s love that he has showered on us, you have redemption by his blood, as well as forgiveness of sins, when you believe in Him.

• You have been sealed with the Holy Spirit via your relationship with Him.
• Everything, from authority to power to dominions, is now completely under our control!

A heart of integrity is a SPIRIT-FILLED heart

A heart that is filled with the Holy Spirit is the key to having a heart of integrity!″If anybody is thirsty, let him come to me and drink,″ Jesus said in a loud voice as he got up and stated.The Scriptures say that whomever believes in me will have streams of life water flowing from within him.’ He was referring to the Holy Spirit when he said this″ (John 7:37-38).We are all too familiar with the downward pull of the law of sin and death, but in Christ, there is a new law at work within us – the law of the Spirit – that is at work in our lives.

• Exactly the same force that resurrected Jesus Christ from the grave is at work in us, bringing us to wholeness, vibrant spiritual health, and kingdom-advancing triumph.
• A heart of integrity is not gained by striving more, but rather by trusting more in one’s abilities!
• For your heart is the source of all life and should be guarded above anything else.
• HAKMAH!

Search the Scriptures: Pure heart, pure words, pure actions

During his teachings on purity of heart, Jesus stated that ″Blessed are the pure in heart, because they shall see God″ (Matthew 5:8).This blessing, which is one of the beatitudes that serve as an introduction to the Lord’s Sermon on the Mount, serves as a powerful reminder to us that pleasing God entails much more than simply carrying out the appropriate activities.It’s a question of the heart.While mankind may judge based on external appearances, God looks at the core of the matter (cf.

• 1 Samuel 16:7).
• And, while we may deceive ourselves about the state of our hearts, God is never deceived by our deception.
• Proverbs 21:2 (ESV) states that ″every man’s path is right in his own eyes,″ but that ″the heart of a man is weighed by the Lord.″ In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus talked about the need of getting one’s heart straight with God, which was a reminder of what he had taught previously.
• While adultery is terrible, Jesus warned us that lust, which is an interior sin of the heart, was also a bad behavior (cf.
• Matthew 5:27-30).
• The act of murdering people was obviously wrong, but Jesus reminded out that Anger, another sin of the heart, would also condemn a person to Hell if committed (cf.

• Matthew 5:21-22).
• 2 Corinthians 5:10 says that we shall give an account for the acts we have done in the body, but that we will also give an account for the thoughts that are in our minds.
• As a matter of logic, the blessing that Jesus bestows on those who are pure in heart makes sense: if we are to be judged according to our hearts, then those who have pure hearts are those who will be let into paradise.
• The blessing granted, like numerous other beatitudes, is a figure of speech that refers to the redemption of the recipient.

• It is possible to state ″They will be in Heaven″ in a variety of ways.
• ″Theirs is the Kingdom″ is one way, ″Be comforted″ is another, ″Inherit the earth″ is another, ″Receive Mercy″ is still another, and ″See God″ is yet another.
• On the other hand, if our souls are not clean, it follows that we shall not be in paradise when the last curtain falls on this world (cf.
• Psalm 24:3-5).
• This was the warning that Jesus issued to the Pharisees and the scribes in the Gospel of Matthew.

• He informed His followers that they would not be able to enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless their holiness exceeded that of the Pharisees, which they did not (Matthew 5:20).
• Pharisees, he warned later, were blind guides who would lead their followers into disaster (Matthew 15:14), and that they were preventing themselves and others from entering the Kingdom (Matthew 15:15).
• (Matthew 23:13).
• While the Pharisees appeared to be religious on the outside, Jesus claimed that their hearts were filled with wickedness on the inside.
• He described this as a big part of the issue.
• As a result, Jesus offered them a colorful description, saying, ″Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!″ In this regard, you are like whitewashed tombs, which on the outside seem lovely, but on the inside are filled with the remains of dead people and all manner of filth.

• You too seem virtuous on the outside, but on the inside, you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness, as others see you (Matthew 23:27-28; ESV) ” The Pharisees were suffering from a ″heart ailment.″ Though such ″heart difficulties″ might be difficult for men to recognize at times, there are some warning signals that we can look for to determine whether or not we are suffering from such a condition.
• There is the obvious issue of sin to contend with.
• The Pharisees’ hearts were hardened against Jesus, and they harbored a desire to kill Him.
• Such behavior does not result from good intentions.

• According to Jesus, ″evil thoughts″ arise ″from of the heart,″ and ″out of the heart″ flow ″murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander″ (Matthew 15:19; ESV).
• The fact that we may fairly detect that a heart disease is at the base of the conduct when we observe a husband cheat on his wife, when a guy steals from another, or when we witness someone spreading falsehoods and gossip, may seem apparent, but it is still worth mentioning.
• Trying to convince ourselves that our hearts are in the right place while our feet are fast moving us down the wrong route will accomplish nothing.
• A pure heart will generate pure words and acts, and a pure heart will produce a pure heart.

Just as one cannot obtain salt water out of a fresh water spring or fresh water out of the ocean, we cannot get righteousness out of a wicked heart, and neither will wickedness come from a pure heart, neither will we get righteousness out of a wicked heart (cf.James 3:10-11).However, there is a solution; in fact, it is a very straightforward answer.In the Bible, we are urged to ″drench yourself in God’s presence, and He will come near to you.″ James 4:8 (ESV) says, ″Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.″ God offers a mechanism to cleanse our souls and wisdom with which to fill them with things that are pure and good, even when our hearts are depraved.It all begins with an admission of what we have done and why we have done it, followed by repentance as we draw near to God and allow Him to wash us clean of our sins.It is appropriate for us to pray constantly, as the Psalmist did, ″Create a clean heart in me, O God″ (Psalm 51:10).

The Lord looks at the heart

The LORD does not pay attention to the things that men pay attention to.Man is concerned with external appearances, but the LORD is concerned with the heart.1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV) What a beautiful reality; what a great love.According to the proverb, ″the LORD looks at the heart,″ then He sees every bruise, battering, and break that our hearts undergo.

• While some may not be able to see past our skin and into our suffering, God is able to.
• He is aware of our deepest scars as well as our most pressing demands.
• Because God is larger than our hearts and understands everything, we may put our trust in him.

• God desires healing for His children, including ourselves.
