Live performances

The song was recorded live at the Hillsong Conference in 2016, during a live performance of the song. During the 48th Annual Dove Awards, which were hosted at Allen Arena in Nashville, Hillsong United performed the song. Audience members were “on their feet with their hands in the air” after the performance, which got positive feedback. According to Ligertwood, when questioned about singing the song in an interview with Billboard’s Jim Asker, the majority of the audience members were already aware with the tracks since they were a part of the church and because we sing these songs in church on a daily basis.

Ultimately, we hope that the song will strike a chord with them.

Lastly, she shared her thoughts on her performance of the song: “I suppose that when I am leading the song, my voice is myself, but it is also my prayer first, that I am there to serve others and unite with them in the presence of God.” Individuals may feel their spirits being elevated when they make connections with you.

Really, it’s the beauty of singing anything about the majesty and power of Jesus that captures my attention. When individuals get together, it is liberating for them, as it breaks down barriers and fosters faith.”

Other versions

During the month of July 2017, the Voices of Lee, a “elite” a cappella singing group, uploaded a video of the song to their social media page. It was filmed in the chapel of Lee University in Tennessee, where the group is representing the school’s name.

Bible Verses for What A Beautiful Name

While I first disliked this song because of its repetitious chorus (which, in my opinion, epitomizes the 7-11 image of modern Christian worship), I eventually came around to it. First and foremost, the passages are strong and replete with allusions to God’s written Word. Second, the choruses are entirely accurate. We worship our Lord in the name that is lovely, amazing, and strong. To conclude, there are several melodies that repeat over and over again in the psalms. For example, I’m curious as to what current worship critics think of Psalm 136 and all of the “For His love endureth forevers.”

What A Beautiful Name

Even though I was originally turned off by the song’s repeated chorus (which, in my opinion, epitomizes the 7-11 caricature of modern Christian worship), I eventually became a fan. In the first place, the lyrics are strong and full of allusions to God’s Word. Second, the choruses are entirely accurate in their statements. We worship our Lord in the name that is lovely, great, and strong. To conclude, there are many songs that repeat over and over again in the psalms. The Psalm 136 and all of those “For His love endureth forever”s make me wonder what critics of modern worship think of them.

Is ‘What a Beautiful Name’ Biblical?

Even though I was originally turned off by the song’s repeated chorus (which, in my opinion, epitomizes the 7-11 caricature of modern Christian worship), it eventually won me over. First and foremost, the lyrics are strong and replete with allusions to God’s Word. Second, the choruses are entirely accurate in their content. Our Lord’s name is lovely, amazing, and strong. In the end, the Psalms are full of tunes that are quite repetitious. (I’m curious as to what current worship critics think of Psalm 136 and all of the “For His love endures forevers?”

1. What message does the song communicate?

The name of Jesus is a lovely, amazing, and powerful combination of letters. He is the Creator, one with the Father, a rescuer, who brings the Kingdom of God to earth, who is loving, who has beaten death, who is without rival or equal, who is the name above all names, who is a king, against whom nothing can stand. The opening lyric of Verse 2 is the source of the song’s difficulty. “You didn’t want Heaven without us,” the message reads. Despite the fact that I am convinced that Hillsong meant “You intended us to be in heaven,” the phrase has an air of man-centeredness to it, as if paradise could not exist without us.

Score:8/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

Everything’s all of it! *All lyrics have been released with permission. You were the first and most important word. In John 1:1, the author of the Gospel of John makes a reference to the beginning of the Gospel. One with God, the Most High, the Almighty Jesus’ claim that “I and the Father are one in the same” (John 10:30). See John 10:30 for further information. Your undiscovered brilliance in the cosmos God’s grandeur may be found in all of His creations. See, for example, Psalm 19:1-6 and John 1:14.

  1. See John 1:3, John 1:10, Colossians 1:15-16, and 1 Corinthians 8:6 for examples of biblical quotations.
  2. What a lovely moniker that is as well.
  3. His Hebrew given name “Yeshua” is derived from the Hebrew word “Joshua,” which means “to rescue” or “to deliver” in English.
  4. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior and King Matthew 6:13, 1 Timothy 6:15, Revelation 1:5, Revelation 17:14, and Revelation 19:11-16 are only a few of the passages that refer to Jesus as King.
  5. Isaiah 40:18-20 and Psalm 71:20-22, to name a few of probable references, are unparalleled in their significance.
  6. The Lord’s Name is Jesus.
  7. God desires everyone of us to come to the knowledge of the Truth (1 Timothy 2:3-4), that is, Jesus (John 14:6).

Moreover, He longs for us to repent (2 Peter 3:9) and to have a personal connection with Him (Acts 17:27, Romans 8:15, John 15:1-11, Romans 11:16-24).

While it may appear that heaven could not exist without man, this statement reveals God’s will, that His will is for heaven to exist even if there are no humans present in it.

As a result, Jesus, you brought Heaven crashing down.

See Matthew 4:17 and Philippians 2:5-11 for further information.

Your love was bigger than mine.

Christ’s love for us, on the other hand, forced Him to offer Himself for our sins (John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8), and His sacrifice was greater than our sins (John 3:16, Romans 5:6).

What could possibly divide us at this point?

Please keep in mind that intentional rebellion is not included in this list.

Absolutely nothing can match to this.

The Lord’s Name is Jesus.

Death was defeated by Jesus!

The curtain was torn in front of You.

Immediately after Jesus died on the cross, the curtain was torn in two.

You brought the brag of sin and death to a halt.

See Romans 6:9 for further information.

The exaltation of Your majesty This is seen in Revelation 19:1-6.

This phrase refers to Jesus Christ’s resurrection.

You don’t have a competitor.

Lines 1 and 2 of Chorus 1 and 2 are referenced again.

God, you are supreme now and forever.

In the name of Jesus Christ, my King, I address you.

The honor is all yours.

Yours is the most prestigious of all names.

What a commanding moniker that is.

In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior and King What a commanding moniker that is.

Genesis 1, John 1:1, John 1:3, John 1:10, John 1:14, Acts 4, 1 Corinthians 8:6, Colossians 1:16, and Hebrews 1:2 are examples of passages where this is true.

Nothing is impossible!

What a commanding moniker that is. The Lord’s Name is Jesus. What a commanding moniker that is. The Lord’s Name is Jesus. What a commanding moniker that is. The Lord’s Name is Jesus. For the sake of emphasis, the phrase has been repeated. Score:10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

The name of Jesus is a lovely, amazing, and powerful combination of letters. Many people will not grasp the rest of the song unless they have studied Christianity in depth; nonetheless, the fundamental point of the song will not be lost on those who are not familiar with the religion. A common misunderstanding of the first sentence of the second Verse is that some people believe that they are more important than even God! Score:7/10

4. What does this song glorify?

While this song exalts the name of Jesus, Hillsong’s interpretation of Verse 2 may lead people to unbiblical conclusions, thereby obscuring the message. Score:8/10

Final Comments

Hillsong Worship is an incredibly beautiful name. Although it is a breath of fresh air, it is not without its challenges. It is a work of art that is rich in Scripture and that does honor to the beauty, wonder, and power that comes from the name of Jesus. While I did not come across a single sentence that was not biblically or theologically sound, the opening line of Verse 2 may lead people to a man-centeredness that is not conducive to God’s glory. Despite the depth of theology contained inside this hymn, one single sentence makes it impossible to recommend for communal worship.

Hillsong Worship –

“What a Beautiful Name,” a praise song by Hillsong Worship that we all like, is one of our favorites. However, where did the inspiration for the song originate from? Brooke Ligertwood, a singer/songwriter/recording artist (who also sings lead on the CD) tells us about the inspiration for the song. Hillsong deconstructs the force behind the name of Jesus on their website’s blog, and after that is done, the name of Jesus is transformed into a palette of qualities that express how incredibly beautiful the name is.

  • The name of Jesus embraces more than we can wish or imagine—more beauty, more wonder, and more power than we can comprehend or comprehend ourselves.
  • As a result, we spent months creating the lyrics to riff on two primary scriptures — Hebrews 1:1-4 and Colossians 1:15-20, 26-27 — while remaining basic enough to make sense on first listen.
  • He is the light of God’s glory, the exact representation of His essence, and the creative conduit through which His power is channeled.
  • He is the miracle of salvation, the one who has reconciled us to God by his sacrifice.

What could possibly separate us now, Jesus? My sin was enormous, but your love was greater; what could possibly separate us now?

  1. What a fantastic name!
  2. The Name ofJesusChrist, my King, what a wonderful name!
  3. How lovely your name is, Lord, and how wonderful You are.
  4. Death could not hold you, the curtain was torn before your eyes, and you were hushed by the brag of sin and death.
  5. Because You have been resurrected to life You have no competitor, and you have no equal, since our God rules now and forever.
  6. Yours is the Name that reigns supreme above all others.
  7. The Name ofJesusChrist, my King, has a tremendous name.

Nothing can stand up against it.

Yours is the kingdom, and yours is the glory, so be it.

Jesus Christ, my King, has a great name.

What a commanding moniker that is.

Lyrics

Verse 1: What a magnificent name for a Savior. The Lamb of God, the Son of Man, who was slaughtered. Gratitude and calm, strength and optimism; a grace that extinguishes all dread. What a great name for a child. Verse 2: What a magnificent name for a Savior. The truth was revealed, my future was sealed, and my grief was cured. There’s love and freedom, life and warmth, and elegance that dispels all fears. What a great name for a child. Verse 3: What a magnificent name for a Savior. My soul has been rescued, and my stronghold has been lifted from humiliation.

What a great name for a child.

What a great name for a child.
