I walked today where Jesus walked a long time ago, on the same path. I walked along each road He had shown me, taking everything slowly and with reverence. The tiny slopes of Galilee, which remembered those clumsy steps, and the Mount of Olives, which held holy scenes, which Jesus had previously known.

My heart was unafraid as I walked into the Garden of Gethsemane.

On the Hill of Calvary, I ascended the Hill of Calvary, and on the Hill of Calvary, I climbed the Hill of Calvary, where He died on the Cross.

I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked

“I walked today where Jesus walked,” says the author. Tambuli, April 1984, number 36 For three glorious days, we walked on holy ground and felt the presence of the greatest person who has ever walked the face of the earth, Jesus the Christ, the very Son of the living God, and the influence of his teachings. As we approached the Holy Land, we read together the four gospel narratives, and then, as we left our room each time, we prayed that the Lord would deafen our ears to what the guide said about historical sites, but that he would make us acutely sensitive to spiritual feelings, so that we would know where the sacred sites were by impression rather than by hearing.

  1. Imaginatively, as we drove nine kilometers from Jerusalem’s walled city to the town of Bethlehem, nestled among the Judean hills, we could hear the strains of that sweet Christmas hymn: “O little town of Bethlehem, thou art a star in the sky,” we sang aloud to ourselves.
  2. The silent stars pass above thy deep and dreamless sleep; however, the everlasting Light shines through the darkness of the streets.
  3. As we stood on the hillside, where sheep were still grazing as they had nearly two thousand years ago, the significance of the story of the shepherds became clear to us in our minds’ eye.
  4. (Luke 2:8–11.) Presently we were, as it seemed, with the shepherds at the mouth of the cave hewn out of the rock now to be found in the basement of the Church of the Nativity.
  5. Down in the basement is the cave hewn out of the rock, which seemed to us to mark a sacred place.

The sacred incident that took place is recorded simply:“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:“And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matt.

A short distance away from the homesite of Martha and Mary is the rock-built tomb of Lazarus.

It was from this topmost peak that his ascension took place, and the two men in white stood by and said to the multitude as they saw him go up into the clouds: “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?

In the Garden of Gethsemane, one of the deeply spiritual places, there are eight old gnarled olive trees showing evidence of great antiquity.

We fancied we could hear again the agonized words of his intense suffering, which he described in a great revelation:“Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink.” (D C 19:18.) And then he had prayed, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” (See Matthew 26:39.) Time was now running out for us on our visit to Jerusalem.

  • We had followed the guide through the traditional hall of judgment, where the Master was beaten and sentenced to death by a tribunal that made mockery of justice.
  • But all of this, we felt, was in the wrong place.
  • (Heb.
  • And again, what we were seeing there did not agree with John’s description of the place where the crucifixion and burial took place, for John had said:“Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
  • It is owned by the Church of the United Brethren.
  • The garden was right close by, or “in the hill,” as John had said, and in it was a sepulchre hewn out of a rock, evidently done by someone who could afford the expense of excellent workmanship.
  • That tomb has a mouth that could be sealed by a rolling stone, and there is a stone track built to guide a stone as it was rolled across the mouth of the tomb.

Mary, after peering into the tomb, saw that He was missing, and she went out weeping bitterly.

She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.“ And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

Here on this mount Zion or in America’s New Jerusalem (our students of the scripture are not in agreement as to which) is to be commenced the greatest drama of the whole history of the world to usher in the second coming of the Lord.

I am he who was lifted up.

I am the Son of God.” (D C 45:48–49, 51–52.) The next morning, as we went over the rocky slopes along the Jaffa Road to Tel Aviv and to our airport, we beheld the work of returning Jews to make the “desert blossom as a rose,” as the prophets had foretold.

Larnelle Harris – I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked Lyrics

  • I took a trek today in the footsteps of Jesus
  • Years ago, I traveled down every road He knew, taking each step with reverence and taking it slowly. Those narrow passageways have remained the same over the years
  • The air is filled with a pleasant serenity
  • I took a stroll today in the footsteps of Jesus, and I sensed His presence there
  • My road took me through Bethlehem
  • It was a long journey. A reminiscence is always pleasant
  • The small slopes of Galilee
  • They were familiar with their clumsy little feet. The Mount of Olives, with its sanctified landscapes
  • That Jesus was aware of it previously
  • I witnessed the tremendous Jordan row
  • As in the past, I knelt today where Jesus knelt
  • Where He prayed all alone
  • In the Garden of Gethsemane
  • As I had done in the past. When my heart felt unafraid, I lifted up my heavy loads with Him by my side, and together, we climbed the Hill of Calvary
  • I climbed the Hill of Calvary
  • Where on the Cross He died
  • I knelt today where Jesus knelt
  • And I felt His presence near to me
