How Long Did It Take The Wiseman To Find Jesus?

Did The Wise Men (Magi) Arrive 12 Days After Jesus’ Birth? Or Was It Much Later?

  • ″WHO Were the Wise Men?″ is a topic we’ve already explored.
  • as well as ″HOW DID THEY KNOW″ Let us now explore the question, ″WHEN DID THE WISDOM MEN ARRIVE?″ ″The Twelve Days of Christmas,″ a classic Christmas carol, is about the twelve days of gift-giving that occur throughout the holiday season.
  • Gifts are added to the list with each passing day, based on the day’s number.
  • The most famous feature is the ringing chorus of ″five golden rings,″ which is sung on the fifth day of the festival.
  • In addition to being a lovely tune to sing, ″The Twelve Days of Christmas″ also has a fun trivia question: How many gifts were presented during the song?

Because the gifts from each day are repeated (and added to the next day’s offerings), the total is 364!That is a significant number of presents. However, they are little when compared to the singular gift that God provided to the world when He sent His Son into the world.

A Theological Significance to the 12 Days of Christmas

The church has historically held that the 12 days between the birth of Jesus and the arrival of the Magi indicate the period of time between the two events. The celebrations begin on Christmas Day (or, in some traditions, the day following Christmas) and conclude with the feast of the Epiphany, which is celebrated on January 6th this year.

The Feast of Epiphany

  • This feast day remembers the day the three wise men arrived at Jesus’ home and presented him with gifts.
  • Some churches’ liturgical calendars refer to this day as ″Three Kings’ Day,″ which is a reference to the three kings of Saudi Arabia.
  • Some traditions also say that the Feast of the Three Kings commemorates the day on which John the Baptist baptized Jesus.
  • Is this, however, the case in reality?

What does the Bible say?

  • According to the gospel of Matthew, the Three Wise Men came from the Persian Empire (see Who were the Three Wise Men?
  • for further information).
  • While traveling to Jerusalem in search of the Christ child, they were guided by a bright light in the sky.
  • When they came, they approached King Herod and enquired about the location of the one and only ″born King of the Jews″ (Mat 2:2).
  • Then, guided once more by the light, they ultimately discovered the infant near the spot where the star had come to rest.

While church tradition holds that the Three Wise Men came at the birth of Jesus 12 days after his birth, Holy Scripture shows that this is not the case.

Arrival After The Dedication of Jesus?

  • Mary and Joseph carried their kid to the temple in order for him to be dedicated to the Lord, as prescribed by the Law of Moses.
  • 2:22 (Luke 2:22) As soon as the days of her purification stipulated by the Law of Moses were over, they carried him to Jerusalem to offer him to the Lord; the period for this dedication was expressly defined by the Law of Moses (Lev 12:2-4).
  • After the birth of Jesus, the days of Mary’s purification were to take place at least 40 days later.
  • A lady was considered filthy for seven days after giving birth.
  • A male infant was to be circumcised on the eighth day of his life.

After then, it was necessary to wait 33 days before a woman’s purification was complete.Following that, the young couple was to take their newborn to the Temple for dedication, as well as an animal sacrifice to present to the Lord in exchange for the mother’s purification.12:6 (Lev 12:6) If she is expecting a son or a daughter, when the days of her purification are completed, she must take to the priest a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering, and bring them to the entrance to the tabernacle of the congregation. The purpose of this offering was to make atonement for the woman and to cleanse her of any issue of blood. What an appropriate offering it would be to make ″a lamb of the first year″ and a bird of prey (a young pigeon or a turtledove).

This appears to depict Jesus, the Lamb of God, as well as the Holy Spirit, who appeared in the form of a dove, symbolically. There was also a provision created for individuals who could not afford to make a lamb offering. This type of situation allowed the woman to carry two turtledoves or two juvenile pigeons with her.

An Offering of Birds by Mary and Joseph

  • It is recorded in Luke 2:24 that Mary made an offering of birds (plural).
  • That Mary and Joseph did not have the sufficient means to purchase a lamb for their burned offering is an evidence of their financial inability.
  • It has long been speculated that if the Three Wise Men had visited 12 days after the birth of Jesus, Mary and Joseph would have been presented with the priceless gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
  • If this had been the case, Mary would have been able to present a blood sacrifice in the shape of a lamb to the Lord in order to cleanse herself.
  • The Wise Men could not have come before that period, based on the Bible’s description of the dedication of Jesus and the purification of Mary, which occurred at least 40 days after Jesus’ birth.

Arrival When Jesus was Two Years Old?

  • Some believe that the Wise Men did not visit until Jesus was two years old and was residing in a home in Nazareth, rather than when he was born.
  • This is based on Matthew 2:11-11, to be precise.
  • When the Three Wise Men ″went into the home and saw the little boy,″ we are informed that they were ″astonished.″ When you combine that with Herod’s command that all children under the age of two should be put to death, it’s easy to see why some believe Jesus was close to two years old when the Three Wise Men came.
  • But is it possible that this is correct?
  • There is no evidence to back up this claim.

Furthermore, the translation of ″young kid″ seems unclear. The Greek term paidion, which is translated as ″little kid,″ is used by Matthew to describe a small child. An baby, a half-grown boy or girl, or a childling (of either sexe), according to Strong’s Dictionary, is defined as a childling (of either sexe). The assumption of Jesus’ age in accordance with Herod’s order is also dubious. In this case, Herod might have been ″covering his bases″ and going much beyond the age of Jesus, who would have been about thirty years old at the time.

Keep in mind that the Wise Men were meant to report back to Herod on their findings (Matt 2:8).He could have decreed ″two and under″ to ensure that Jesus would be murdered if six months or a whole year had gone before Herod noticed they had not returned.

The Wise Men “Came Into the House”

  • We know that Jesus was born in a stable, which was a facility that housed animals.
  • The location may have been a stable or a cave, but the most likely location was the bottom floor of a relative’s house, where animals were housed during the colder months.
  • The word ″inn″ that we translate as ″upper room″ comes from the Greek word for ″lower level,″ and it has been hypothesized that Mary and Joseph stayed in the lower level of a Bethlehem house, and after all of the guests who had been there for the census had left, the relatives invited Mary and Joseph to the upper level.
  • He and Mary would have stayed there until after they had visited the Temple and until she had been able to make the journey back to Nazareth.
  • (See also: Was Jesus Born in a Stable, a Cave, or a House?

for more information on this.) According to the Gospel of Luke, Mary and Joseph returned to their house in Nazareth after the dedication of Jesus in the Temple (which took place 40 days or more after Jesus’ birth) (Luke 2:39).As a result, it’s plausible that the Wise Men were guided to Nazareth by the star, but it’s improbable that their journey would have taken more than two years.

The Timing

  • It seems undeniable that the story of the Three Wise Men arriving 12 days after Jesus’ birth is inaccurate.
  • The time does not seem to be right.
  • Due to the fact that Mary and Joseph were devout Jews, should they have received the magnificent gifts of great value from the Wise Men, they might have sold part of the gold, frankincense, or myrrh and used the proceeds to purchase a lamb for the purpose of sacrifice to God.
  • Instead, they offered birds, with the offering intended for the impoverished who did not have the financial resources to purchase a lamb on their behalf.

Conclusion

  • So, how long did it take the Wise Men to get to Bethlehem after Jesus’ birth?
  • We simply do not know what to do.
  • The available evidence, on the other hand, is adequate to conclude that it was not 12 days.
  • It would have taken more than 40 days, but it would have taken less time than two years.
  • When it comes to Jesus, we know from the Wise Men that the right reaction is to bow our heads and worship him.

When the Wise Men discovered Him, they bowed down and worshipped Him, regardless of His age at the time.2:11 (Matthew 2:11) In entering the home, they saw a little boy, who they recognized as the son of Mary, and they fell to their knees, worshipping him; and after they had opened their treasures, they brought unto him presents of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

How long did it take the wise men to find Jesus?

  • Asked in the following category: General The most recent update was made on February 21st, 2020.
  • The wise men depicted in the Bible were Parthian Magi, or ″Parthian Magi″ in English.
  • In all, the distance between Parthia and Jerusalem is roughly 500 kilometers long.
  • This voyage would have lasted between 50 and 60 days by caravan, assuming there were no major delays or disruptions.
  • We Are Aware When they returned to Nazareth, they were greeted by When the wise men came to Nazareth following their journey through Egypt, according to Matthew’s narrative, they were welcomed with open arms (Matthew 2:22,23).

As a result, the visit of the wise men, Joseph and Mary’s journey to Egypt, and their return journey all had to take place within 40 days of the birth of Jesus Christ. Also, do you know how the three wise men came to locate Jesus?According to Matthew’s version, the Magi were aware of the birth of the ″king of the Jews″ because of a star they had seen before they arrived in Jerusalem.″They saw the infant with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him,″ according to the text of Matthew 11: ″and they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him.″ Similarly, many wonder how far the Three Wise Men were able to view Jesus. The three wise men (the Magi) journeyed (by camel) an average of ten kilometers each day for two and a half years to reach the infant Jesus, according to legend.

It is estimated that this distance is 9,125 miles (one-way).What was the source of the wise men’s arrival? The origins of the Three Kings/Wise Men/Magi in the Christmas Story are explained here.

After Jesus’ birth, three Wise Men traveled to find Him, most likely from a region that is now either Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, or Yemen, or a region that is now southern Turkey and northern Syria, according to historical accounts.

How long did the wise men’s journey take?

  • ″WHO Were the Wise Men?″ is a topic we’ve examined previously.
  • as well as ″HOW DID THEY KNOW″ ″WHEN DID THE WISE MEN ARRIVE?″ is the topic we’ll be discussing next.
  • There’s a famous Christmas carol that many people sing throughout the holidays, but few people are aware of the significance of the song’s lyrics.
  • The song ″The Twelve Days of Christmas″ portrays the story of 12 days of presents that accumulate over time.
  • With each passing day, fresh presents are added to the original gift, such as ″a partridge in a pear tree″ on the first day.

The amount of presents that are added each day is determined by the day’s number. The most famous feature is the ringing chorus of ″five golden rings,″ which is sung on the fifth day of the festival. The song ″The Twelve Days of Christmas″ is a pleasant one to sing, but most people have never given much attention to the meaning of the 12 days of the Christmas season. In the past, the church has recommended that the 12 days begin on the day following Christmas (or in some traditions, the day after Christmas). The twelve-day period culminates with the celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany, which takes place on January 6th.

The Feast of Epiphany

  • The purpose of this feast day is to celebrate the day on which the three wise men arrived to see the newborn Jesus for themselves.
  • The day is hence referred to as ″The Three Kings’ Day″ in various churches’ liturgical calendars as a result of this.
  • Some traditions also say that the Feast of the Three Kings commemorates the day on which John the Baptist baptized Jesus.
  • Is this, however, the case in reality?
  • It is said that these Three Wise Men arrived from the Persian Empire, according to the gospel of Matthew (see: Who were the Three Wise Men?) They began their journey by traveling to Jerusalem in search of the Christ child.

Then, guided by a star, they ultimately discovered the infant in the location where the star had come to rest. The Wise Men are said to have come 12 days after the birth of Jesus, according to tradition. However, the Bible says that this is not the case.

Arrival After The Dedication of Jesus?

  • Mary and Joseph carried their kid to the temple in order for him to be dedicated to the Lord, as prescribed by the Law of Moses.
  • 2:22 (Luke 2:22) Then, when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought him back to Jerusalem, where he was dedicated to the Lord according to the laws of Leviticus (Lev 12:2-4).
  • In all likelihood, Mary’s cleansing took place at least 40 days after the birth of Jesus.
  • The mother was judged filthy for a period of seven days.
  • Following that, a man child was to be circumcised on the eighth day, and then 33 days had to pass before a woman’s purification could be completed.

In the following days, the young couple was to take their newborn to the Temple for dedication, along with an animal sacrifice, which they were to present to the Lord: 12:6 (Lev 12:6) And when the days of her purification are completed, whether she is bearing a son or a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, where the priest will receive them, as follows: Specifically, this gift was to be brought before the Lord in order to atone for the woman’s sins and to purify her of the problem of blood. It was so appropriate that it was ″a lamb of the first year″ as well as a bird (a young pigeon or a turtledove). This appears to depict Jesus, the Lamb of God, as well as the Holy Spirit, who appeared in the form of a dove, symbolically. There was also a provision created for individuals who could not afford to make a lamb offering. This particular woman was permitted to bring either two turtledoves or two baby pigeons to the event.

Because we are informed in Luke 2:24 that Mary made an offering of birds, we can assume that she did (plural). That Mary and Joseph did not have the sufficient means to purchase a lamb for their burned offering is an evidence of their financial inability. As predicted by legend, the Three Wise Men would have arrived in Jerusalem in 12 days, bringing with them the costly gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh for Mary and Joseph.

If this had been the case, Mary would have been able to present a blood sacrifice in the shape of a lamb to the Lord in order to cleanse herself.According to this scriptural argument, Jesus’ dedication would have taken place at least 40 days after his birth, maybe even more.

Arrival When Jesus was Two Years Old?

  • Some believe that the Three Wise Men did not come to see Jesus until he was two years old and was living in a home in Nazareth when they came to see him.
  • We know this because it says in Matthew 2:111 that they (the Wise Men) ″went inside the home and saw a small child.″ The order of Herod, according to which all children two years old and younger shall be put to death, is also cited in support of the theory that Jesus would have been around two years old.
  • Is it possible that this is correct?
  • While some Bible readers believe that Jesus was two years old at the time of his death, there is no evidence to support this claim.
  • The translation of the phrase ″young kid″ is questionable.

The Greek term paidion is used by Matthew, and it refers to a childling (of either sexe), which can refer to an infant, a half-grown boy or girl, or a half-grown boy or girl. The assumption of Jesus’ age in accordance with Herod’s order is also dubious.Herod might have been ″covering his bases″ and going much past the age of Jesus at the time of his death, according to certain theories.

The Wise Men “Came Into the House”

  • We know that Jesus was born in a stable, which was a facility that housed animals.
  • The structure might have been a stable or cave, or it could have been the basement of a home where animals were housed during the winter.
  • Following their journey to the Temple in Jerusalem for her purification, it’s probable that Mary and Joseph returned to their Bethlehem home following their visit.
  • Jesus may have been welcomed into the upper chamber of the home 40 days after his birth, or Mary, Joseph, and Jesus may have been born among the animals because there was no place in the house (due to an influx of people owing to the census).
  • It’s also likely that the Three Wise Men were guided to Nazareth by a guiding star.

Mary and Joseph returned to their house in Nazareth following the dedication of Jesus in the Temple (which took place 40 days or more after His birth), according to the account in Luke.Luke 2:39 (NIV) As a result, once they had completed all of their tasks in accordance with the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their hometown of Nazareth.

The Timing

  • It seems undeniable that the story of the Three Wise Men arriving 12 days after Jesus’ birth is inaccurate.
  • The timeline is incorrect because, had the Wise Men arrived prior to the Temple’s dedication, Mary would have presented a lamb, rather than the alternate offering of a bird, if they had arrived earlier (the offering of one who could not afford a lamb).
  • Mary and Joseph were devoted Jews, and had they been given the wonderful gifts of great value by the Three Wise Men, they would have been able to sell the gold, frankincense, and myrrh and used the proceeds to purchase a lamb to sacrifice to God on the occasion of his birth.
  • It does, however, make sense that Mary and Joseph were able to travel to Egypt with Jesus because of the wonderful gifts they received from the angel Gabriel.
  • The Bible makes it clear that their journey into Egypt took place following the arrival of the Wise Men.

Mat 2:13 In a dream, the angel of the Lord appears to Joseph, telling him to get up and take the little infant and his mother to Egypt…

The Wise Men/Toddler Jesus View

  • The Three Wise Men/The Toddler The acts of King Herod at the time of Jesus’ birth appear to have influenced the way people regard Jesus.
  • When the three wise men came to him in search of the Messiah, he inquired as to when the star had first shown (Matthew 2:7).
  • The three wise men traveled to Jerusalem to pay their respects to Jesus before returning home.
  • Herod was ″extremely enraged″ when the wise men failed to return to him as requested, and ″sent forth and killed all the children who were in Bethlehem, and on all of its coasts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men,″ according to the Bible.
  • (Matthew 2:16 King James Version) Herod evidently concluded that Jesus had to have been born sometime around the time of the appearance of the star, or perhaps later.

The Three Wise Men/The Toddler Herod’s view is supported by the majority of Jesus’ followers.Their argument is based on three points: 1) Jesus was born when the star appeared; 2) Jesus is referred to as a young kid (KJV) in the wise men narrative (Matthew 2:8,9,11,13,14,20,21) rather than a baby; and 3) the wise men discovered Jesus in a house (Matthew 2:11) rather than a barn or an inn. While these arguments appear to be solid, a deeper analysis of the Bible and its underlying Greek language reveals several significant flaws.

The Start of the Star

  • The Bible does not state that Jesus was born at the time of the first appearance of the star.
  • Those who claim He was are only speculating.
  • Despite the fact that Herod was a powerful ruler, he was unaware of Jesus’ birth.
  • Just because he ordered the execution of children under the age of two does not imply that Jesus was under the age of two at the time of the execution.
  • It appears that Herod also believed that Jesus may have been a newborn infant only a few days old, as he also ordered the execution of newborn newborns throughout his reign.

A Baby is Called a Young Child Too

  • Paidion is the Greek word that is used to refer to a small kid.
  • It is not limited to children under the age of three.
  • It’s also possible that it’s a newborn infant.
  • When John the Baptist was eight days old, the Greek word paidion was used to describe him (Luke 1:59,66,76,80).
  • It is used three times in the Gospel of Luke: when Jesus was born (Luke 2:17), when he was eight days old (Luke 2:21), and when he was forty days old (Luke 2:17).

(Luke 2:27,40).In fact, the word paidion is used of Jesus when the shepherds were there on the night of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:17), exactly one verse after the word infant (brephos) is used to refer to Jesus. As a result, simply though Jesus is referred to as a little kid (paidion) in the story of the wise men (Matthew) does not imply that he was younger than a newborn.

An Inn was a Room in a House

  • When people traveled during the time of the Bible, they remained in people’s houses as unpaid guests because hotels were extremely scarce.
  • There were no Holiday Inns or Motel 6s to be found here.
  • The law of Moses ordered the Jews to treat outsiders as if they were their own and not to take advantage of them in any way (Leviticus 19:33).
  • It was unethical of them to charge money to people who wanted to stay the night.
  • Given this, it is exceedingly doubtful that there was ever a guesthouse or a hotel in Bethlehem.

In the Bible, the phrase ″inn″ can apply to a guest room in a house as well as a hotel.Luke 2:7 is the only place where the Greek word for inn (kataluma) is rendered as inn.Other than that, the KJV translates it as guest chamber (chamber is an archaic term for room) in the other two instances where it appears (Mark 14:14 and Luke 22:11).It is clear from those passages that it is a room in a house, not an inn, that is being referred to.Many people, particularly in the Jerusalem area, erected guest rooms in their homes (often as a second storey above their original house with an exterior entrance and stairs) so that they could provide a place for visitors to sleep while visiting them.

During Israel’s three national holidays, Jews from all across the country flocked to Jerusalem and slept in residences as non-paying guests, bringing a unique flavor to the city.It was necessary for the individuals who had homes in Jerusalem and the neighboring cities to be hospitable during two of the festivals, which lasted a week on each. What is now referred to be an inn in Bethlehem was most likely a guest room in someone’s home prior to the time of Jesus.

Because the guest room was completely booked, Mary and Joseph were forced to sleep in the barn.Someone in the guest room is likely to have offered to sleep in the barn so that Mary and Jesus may be able to sleep in the home when the other guests in the guest room learned that Mary had given birth to Jesus. As a result, the wise men may have arrived on the day of Jesus’ birth and discovered him in a dwelling. The inclusion of a dwelling does not necessarily imply or imply that Jesus was not a baby when he was born.

But, for the purpose of argument, let us assume that everything in this section is incorrect.A hotel was located in Bethlehem, but there was no place for Jesus to stay in the inn. What kind of structure might this inn have?

  1. A thirty-story structure with a large illuminated sign on top that reads ″Bethlehem Inn″ that can accommodate thousands of people?
  2. No.
  3. In the twenty-first century, it was not the case in New York City.

It took place in Israel at the end of the first millennium BC.They didn’t have any skyscrapers back then. They had their own homes.

  • If there had been an inn in Bethlehem, it would have been in a house, and it would have been the same house that the three wise men visited.
  • Once again, the mention of a dwelling does not imply or imply that Jesus was not a baby when he was born.

The Wise Men Arrived in Jerusalem When Jesus Was Born

  • Matthew 2:1 provides one another argument in favor of the Wise Men/Baby Jesus viewpoint.
  • According to the Scriptures, ″When Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judaea during the reign of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem.″ (KJV) In this passage, it is said that the three wise men arrived in Jerusalem ″around the time of Jesus’ birth.″ They didn’t show up a year later, either.
  • They arrived shortly after he was born.
  • In Greek, the phrase ″when Jesus was born″ is an aorist participle.
  • When Jesus was born, it can be rendered as ″after Jesus was born,″ ″when Jesus was born,″ or ″when Jesus was born and.″ The use of aorist participles is common throughout the New Testament.

An aorist participle is one in which the action of the participle (Jesus’ birth) is closely followed by the action of the main verb (Jesus was born) (wise men came to Jerusalem). When Jesus was born and the wise men arrived in Jerusalem, there was no gap of more than a year, two years, or even a week or two between them.Only half a day’s walk separated Bethlehem from Jerusalem’s Old City. When the wise men arrived in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus’ birth, it didn’t take them long to make their way to Bethlehem.

We Know When they Returned to Nazareth

  • One other piece of evidence supporting the Wise Men/Baby Jesus viewpoint is Joseph, Mary, and Jesus’ return to Nazareth.
  • It only happened once, and both the wise men’s (Matthew) and the shepherd’s (Luke) accounts of the event record it as having occurred.
  • The shepherd’s account (Luke) makes it abundantly clear that they returned to Nazareth (Luke 2:39) very close to 40 days after Jesus’ birth, ″when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed,″ i.e., when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed (Luke 2:22).
  • When the wise men came to Nazareth following their journey through Egypt, according to Matthew’s narrative, they were welcomed with open arms (Matthew 2:22,23).
  • As a result, the visit of the wise men, Joseph and Mary’s journey to Egypt, and their return journey all had to take place within 40 days of the birth of Jesus Christ.

How old was Jesus when the wise men found Him?

What was Jesus’ age when the three wise men discovered Him?

Bible Answer:

  • The conception of Jesus Christ is recorded in Luke 1:26-56, and His birth is recorded in Luke 2:1-7 in the gospel of Luke.
  • In accordance with Mosaic tradition, Jesus was taken to the temple eight days later to be circumcised and given the name of Jesus.
  • Afterwards, in accordance with Leviticus 12:4-5, He was brought to the temple and consecrated to God 40 days after his conception.
  • The wise men, sometimes known as the magi, paid a visit to Christ some time later (Matthew 2:1-11).
  • The solution to this question may be found in Matthew 2:11, and Matthew 16:13–16.

Birth of Christ In A Manger

  • The gospel of Luke informs us that Jesus Christ was born in a manger because His parents were unable to find lodging in the local inn where they were staying.
  • In the meantime, she gave birth to her firstborn son, whom she wrapped in cloths and lay at a manger since there was no room for them in the inn.
  • 2:7 (Luke 2:7) (NASB) Phatne is the Greek word for ″manger,″ which literally translates as ″a box or crib where animals are fed.″ Because it was customary in those days to put animals on the bottom level of a building during the night when the weather was chilly, we know that Jesus was born either in a cave or on the ground floor of a structure.
  • It’s possible that the home was erected in front of a cave.
  • In Bethlehem, this was a regular occurrence.

The basement chamber served as a sleeping quarters for the family’s domestic animals at night. It is suggested in the following slides that Mary and Joseph were denied admission to the pleasant guest room and that Mary gave birth in the area of the home that housed the animals.According to Luke 2:8-21, an angel appeared to a group of shepherds, who then went to see Jesus after He was born later that evening.

Magi Find Jesus In A House

  • A few months later, according to the Gospel of Matthew, some magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem and inquired as to where the Jewish king would be born.
  • (Matthew 2:1-3; Mark 2:1-3) The Jewish chief priests and scribes were questioned by Herod the Great, the Roman governor, about the location of His birth.
  • Following a search of the Scriptures by the Jewish top priests and scribes, they informed Herod and the magi that the Christ would be born at Bethlehem (Matthew 2:4-8).
  • As a result, the magi traveled towards the direction of the light in the sky.
  • It took them to the city of Bethlehem, where they found the home where Jesus was raised with His parents, Joseph and Mary.

Following their entrance into the home, they were met by the Child and Mary His mother, and they immediately dropped to the ground and worshiped Him.Then they presented Him with presents of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, which they had opened from their riches.Matthew 2:11 (KJV) (NASB) In verse 11, it is stated that Jesus was residing in a residence.Jesus’ parents had apparently purchased a home, as evidenced by this fact.It is not true that Christ was now residing in a stable when the magi arrived, as shown in popular nativity scenes and paintings.

It was at this house that his parents had relocated from their previous residence near the manger. When the magi came to honor Him and give Him gifts, there were no shepherds or angels to accompany them.In verses 13-14, it is stated that the magi had departed and that Joseph had received a dream warning him to remove his family to Egypt.

Between the magi’s arrival in Jerusalem and their visit to the home, it is impossible to determine how much time had gone between them. However, it is exceedingly implausible that the events occurred in a short period of time.

All Males Under Two Are Murdered

  • When Herod learned that the magi had not returned to give him the specific location of where the Christ was residing, Matthew 2:16 tells us that he ordered the execution of every child under the age of two years.
  • When Herod realized that he had been duped by the magi, he became extremely enraged, and he dispatched a squad to slaughter all of the male children who were in Bethlehem and its environs, from two years old and under, according to the time that he had determined from the magi, in order to punish them.
  • Matthew 2:16 (KJV) (NASB) As we can see in verses 16 and 2, King Herod the Great came to the conclusion that the magi had seen the star two years ago.
  • As a result, Herod slaughtered all children under the age of two years old.
  • This would indicate that Jesus was around two years old when the magi came to visit Him.

See the article ″Are there any secular allusions to Herod killing kids under the age of two?″ for further information.

Conclusion:

  • Jesus was around two years old when the wise men, also known as magi, came to visit Him, according to the gospel of Matthew.
  • Everything that the Bible has to say is fascinating to contemplate.
  • In this particular instance, the age of Christ is significant because it allows us to better grasp the fulfillment of a prophesy in Jeremiah.
  • Jeremiah 31:15 is quoted in Matthew 2:17.
  • Then the prophecy of Jeremiah the prophet came to pass: ″A cry was heard in Ramah, wailing and profound sadness, Rachel sobbing for her children; and she refused to be consoled since they were no longer alive.

The Bible says in Matthew 2:17, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It is written, ″It (NASB) It is possible to comprehend why young children were slaughtered in the prophecy of Jeremiah 31:15 if we look at Matthew 2:17.We can express our gratitude to God for the numerous specifics He has provided us in Scripture.

  • The most significant distinction is that Christmas itself has both a religious and a broadly secular meaning in popular culture, whereas Three Kings’ Day is observed primarily by Christians and has no religious connotation.
  • It is also known as the Day of the Child (Da del Nio) in Uruguay, despite the fact that it is a secular country.
  • El Museo del Barrio observed that many of the activities linked with Three Kings’ Day, such as door-to-door holiday caroling (arrandas), the consumption of sweets, and the gathering of friends and family, are comparable to those associated with Christmas.

  • It was gold, frankincense, and myrrh that were used to make the goods themselves, which, according to the same source, were typical items used to ″respect a monarch or divinity in the ancient world.″ While the value of gold is clear, it is considered that the presents themselves have greater value than was previously acknowledged.
  • According to Simon Cotton’s depiction in Chemistry World, the frankincense and myrrh, in particular, may have had substantial utility beyond simply imparting a nice odor to the environment.
  • He stated that studies have been conducted on the analgesic qualities of myrrh molecules, and that the boswellic acid found in frankincense resin has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammation and arthritis.
  • ″Traditional temple burning of frankincense was practiced by the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks to represent the prayers of the people ascending to the gods.

Histories show that myrrh was more commonly employed in fragrances and medicines, for wound healing (it is still used in mouthwashes and toothpaste today), and for the preservation of dead corpses ″Cotton penned a letter.Additionally, according to Ortiz, each object represented an important sign associated with the birth of Jesus.″The presentation of gold to Jesus was intended to symbolize his status as king of kings.Frankincense was traditionally used in religious ceremonies or for prayer. They had come to pay their respects to the infant Jesus ″Ortiz expresses his thoughts on the subject.

″In addition, myrrh was utilized in embalming and in the afterlife. Its significance is that it demonstrates that Jesus Christ is willing to lose his life for our sake.″ El Museo del Barrio pointed out that the gold is traditionally attributed to Melchor, the myrrh to Balthazzar, and the frankincense to Caspar, according to popular belief.Of course, the COVID-19 epidemic will have an impact on the celebrations around Three Kings’ Day.
