Jesus When He Was A Baby

Was Jesus Fully God as a Baby?

It is common to hear people remark about the wonder of Christmas as though the “magic” of the season disappears with the passage of time. Although the Christmas tree appeared to be shrinking as I grew older, I believe that with each passing year of my adult life, Christmas is becoming increasingly large, deep, lofty, and simply unexpected! The entire notion of God coming to earth, descending to live among us as one of us, and then dying for us is too much to comprehend just on the basis of the language we employ to transmit the Christmas narrative to the public at large on a first glance.

So, even as a newborn, was Jesus a complete and whole deity?

The Word Became Flesh

And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw His glory, glory commensurate with that of the only born of the Father, full of grace and truth, as He appeared to us (John 1:14). Despite the fact that God the Son (also known as the Word of God) came and lived among us, according to John’s words, He was full of God’s splendor because He was completely God. He did not develop into a divine being. He was the Almighty!

He Will Be Called Immanuel

In this way, the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw His glory, glory like that of the only born of the Father, full of grace and truth, as He appeared to them (John 1:14). God the Son (also known as the Word of God) came and lived among us, but He was full of the glory of God because He was completely God, according to the words of John. He didn’t develop into a godlike personality. He was the Creator of the universe!

A Baby in a Manger

And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw His glory, glory commensurate with that of the only born of the Father, full of grace and truth; and we worshiped Him (John 1:14). God the Son (also known as the Word of God) came and lived among us, but He was full of the glory of God because He was completely God, according to John’s teachings. He did not develop into a god. He claimed to be God!

Fully God and Fully Man

Have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had toward us, who, while He lived in the form of God, did not view equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and being created in the image of mankind. Being discovered in the form of a man, He humbled Himself by becoming submissive to the point of death, even death on a cross, in order to save others (Philippians 2:5-8). Despite the fact that Jesus was entirely God when He was a baby, He humbled Himself and was discovered in the form of a man, even a newborn infant.

Although He was large enough to succumb to death, He was also much too powerful to be dominated by it!

When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God came seeking for them and drawing to their attention to their transgression.

After then, He continued to make “breadcrumb” promises through prophesies that revealed more and more about His impending arrival until the day He arrived. And when He finally arrived, He chose to arrive in the form of a baby!

Why Does This Matter?

Keep in mind that His birth proclaims, “I am with you!” When you think about Christmas, the Baby Jesus, and the manger scene, allow it to serve as a constant reminder that His presence brings comfort and peace to those who are struggling or worried. Allow it to inspire service and humility in the face of the transgressions in your heart, and allow it to strengthen and anchor your soul to the trust that your God is with you in and through anything this world may throw your way. iStock/Getty Images Plus/kmevegas used for the photo credit Part of our wider Christmas and Advent resource library, this essay is focussed on the events leading up to Jesus’ birth and is available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

What was Jesus like as a baby?

Here’s everything you need to know: Jesus was God from the moment of His conception, although the Bible does not include much information about him when he was a baby. It’s possible that Jesus wailed like any other human infant when he was a newborn. Crying is not considered a sin (either as a baby or as an adult). When newborns are unable to communicate verbally, they rely on crying to communicate their requirements. Given that the Bible states that Jesus grew up in “intelligence and stature” like other children (Luke 2:52), we may fairly presume that He did not begin to communicate any sooner than other human newborns.

  1. Having a strong desire for your mother whether you are a newborn or even when you are older is not a sin.
  2. When Jesus was twelve years old, according to the Bible, He was discovered in the temple courts, answering the questions of the instructors (Luke 2:46).
  3. Perhaps this understanding began when Jesus was considerably less than twelve years old—we are unable to determine the precise moment since the Bible does not provide an answer.
  4. Jesus never committed a sin.
  5. It is very remarkable that God the Son (Jesus) became a person and went through all of the challenges of living in our world and in a body that was similar to ours, so that He might be our Savior if we believe He died on the cross for our sins, as we have done.
  6. He also became increasingly appealing to God and to the people around him ” (Luke 2:52).
  7. And when he reached the age of twelve, they followed tradition and took him up to the second floor.
  8. The fact that his parents were unaware of his presence in the group led them to go a day’s distance, but then they began searching for him among their relatives and acquaintances, and when they were unable to locate him, they returned to Jerusalem, where they continued their search for him.

After three days, they discovered him at the temple, where he was sitting among the professors, paying attention to them and asking questions of them. And everyone who heard him was taken aback by his comprehension and his responses ” (Luke 2:41-47).

Jesus as a Child

As she entered the crowdedtemple in Jerusalem, Mary carried the newborn Jesus in her arms. She and Joseph had traveled from Bethlehem to the temple in order to make a sacrifice of two doves. Jesus was around six weeks old at the time. Simeon, an old gentleman, was present at the temple. He’d been assured that he’d see the Savior at some point in the future. “It was revealed to Him by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death until he had seen the Lord’s Christ,” says the Bible (Luke 2:26). Simeon was overjoyed when he first saw the newborn Jesus because he realized the promise had been fulfilled.

  • However, not everyone was delighted at the Savior’s birth.
  • Herod was adamant on having no other kings in his kingdom.
  • Joseph had a dream in which an angel appeared to him and warned him of Herod’s intentions.
  • They transported Jesus to Egypt, where they believed he would be secure from harm.
  • Joseph worked as a carpenter for a living.
  • Jesus learnt how to labor side by side with Joseph.
  • Joseph and Mary were good stewards of the law, and Jesus learned from His earthly parents how to do the same.

When Jesus was twelve years old, Mary and Joseph accompanied Him to Jerusalem to commemorate the Feast of the Passover.

Women and men traveled in separate groups, while families gathered for meals each evening while camping along the road to keep each other company.

During the night, they discovered that Jesus had not joined any of the groups with which they were traveling.

After three days, they were able to locate Jesus in the temple.

The folks gathered in the temple were taken aback.

Jesus informed her that He needed to be attending to the business of His heavenly Father.

Jesus’ Childhood

25 Moreover, there are several additional acts that Jesus performed that, if they were all written down in chronological order, I believe that even the earth itself would not be able to hold the volumes that would be written. Amen. The Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) was published in 1982 by Thomas Nelson and is known as the New King James Version (NKJV). “> There were so many spectacular episodes in the life of Jesus Christ, according to John 21:25, that if they were all written down, the number of volumes would be incomprehensible.

We are fortunate in that we have four Gospel authors who have recorded a significant deal of what happened, including particular facts surrounding His conception.

There is a wealth of information in the Gospel stories about Jesus Christ’s life and mission.

  • What town did Jesus grow up in
  • What was Jesus’ personality like as a small kid and as a young lad maturing into an adult
  • Did Jesus have brothers and sisters or friends? Was Jesus a carpenter by trade?

While many of these concerns remain unanswered, the biblical story gives some hints as to what happened during these years that have gone unanswered.

Jesus as a child

Because of religious and political forces at work in Judea and the surrounding areas, the environment in which Jesus grew up was a difficult one to live in. Jesus’ birthplace, according to tradition (Luke 2:4-7), was Bethlehem, a city that has long been connected with the House of David. Jesus would not be able to spend much time at His hometown. Shortly after Jesus’ birth, Joseph and Mary took Him to the Temple in Jerusalem to be circumcised (Luke 2:22-38). Within months, the family will embark on a nightmarish trek to Egypt in order to flee King Herod’s killing onslaught (Matthew 2:13-18).

Jesus, on the other hand, did not grow up in the vicinity of Bethlehem or Jerusalem.

40 And the Child grew and had a powerful spirit, full with understanding, and the blessings of God were bestowed upon Him.

“> A comprehensive account of Jesus’ growth from infancy to twelve years of age is given in Luke 2:40: ” During this time, the Child grew and became strong in spirit, full with understanding, and the blessings of God were upon Him.

Jesus’ family life

Jesus grew up in a thriving, expanding family environment. The Gospel of Matthew makes it plain that Joseph and Mary did not have children before to the birth of Jesus (Matthew 1:24-25). The Bible, on the other hand, teaches us that Jesus had numerous younger half-siblings who were offspring of his parents, Joseph and Mary. Matthew mentions four brothers: James, Joses, Simon, and Judas (James, Joses, Simon, and Judas) (Matthew 13:55). In addition, there were at least two sisters (verse 56). The oldest of at least seven children, Jesus was the oldest of them all.

A person who works with wood is typically considered to be in this profession.

9, p. 384). This career would need talent, patience, and hard work, all of which Jesus would have learned from His parents and teachers during His youth.

Was Jesus a carpenter?

His parents were busy with the expansion of their household. Before the birth of Jesus, Matthew makes it plain that Joseph and Mary were not blessed with children (Matthew 1:24-25). However, the Bible teaches us that Jesus had other younger half-siblings who were offspring of Joseph and Mary, according to the text of the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew mentions four brothers: James, Joses, Simon, and Judas (James, Joses, Simon, and Judas) (Matthew 13:55). At least two other sisters were present (verse 56).

Joseph was a carpenter, and he was raised by him (verse 55).

As explained in The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, this term can signify “carpenter”—someone who works with wood—or even “builder” in an era and location where most dwellings were constructed of mud brick (Revised Edition, 2010, Vol.

384).

Jesus was raised in a religious home

Additionally, the Bible reveals to us that Jesus was raised in a family that was deeply religious, in addition to providing information on Jesus’ numerous siblings and Joseph’s career. His family was devoted to God’s instructions on the yearly religious holidays, which they observed without fail. For the feast of Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread, according to Luke, Jesus’ family would go to Jerusalem every year to be with him (Luke 2:41-42). It’s interesting to note that social scientists have now proven the advantages of growing up in a religious atmosphere for youngsters.

Pat Fagan is the head of the Center for Research on Marriage and Religion at the Marriage and Religion Research Institute in Washington, D.C., as well as a senior fellow at the institute.

Learning at a young age that there is a God and that each individual is created in His image fosters a healthy environment for children who are well-adjusted as they grow up.

Jesus was an exceptional Child

Jesus went through a natural maturing process similar to that of any growing boy, but He was specially endowed with God’s Spirit and favor from birth, allowing Him to be light years ahead of other young men when it came to grasping the Word of God and spiritual principles, a process that other young men did not go through. It’s interesting to note that Luke’s account of Jesus’ life includes a reference to something that happened when Jesus was 12 years old. A lot may be learned from this intriguing narrative, which can only be found in the Gospel of Luke, and we should pay attention to it.

  • The fact that Joseph and His mother were among the group was unknown to them;44 yet, believing that He was present, they traveled a day’s trip in search of Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
  • “> Jesus’ distinctive family, as shown in Luke 2:43-44, begins to reveal some intriguing insights into the dynamics of Jesus’ unique family.
  • How could they have gotten this far without comprehending what they were doing?
  • On the way back from Jerusalem, Joseph and Mary were clearly reliant on Jesus’ ability to act in a responsible manner.
  • In the event that He had been unpredictable or immature, they would have felt the need to keep a closer eye on His whereabouts.

They were taken aback when they saw that He had not joined the caravan. They spent the next day heading back to Jerusalem, where they hoped to find Him in good condition.

The fact that Joseph and Mary imagined He was going with another family or relatives meant that they didn’t question about His location until later in the day. Since there was no way they could have anticipated anything other than consistent behavior from their Son and a routine return to Nazareth following the Passover holiday, their actions were quite logical. They were taken aback when they saw that He had not joined the caravan. They spent the next day heading back to Jerusalem, where they hoped to find Him in good condition.

The boy Jesus at the temple

There is evidence to suggest that they discovered Him in the temple grounds on the third day following the feast. He was not playing with other guys, he was disoriented, and he was even afraid of being on his own. Instead, he was engaged in serious debates with some of the city’s most renowned instructors of the law, “both listening to them and asking them questions,” according to the New York Times. (46 As a result, after three days, they discovered Him at the temple, sitting in the midst of the instructors, both listening to them and asking them questions in return.

  • “>Luke 2:46 (New International Version).
  • “All who heard Him were astounded by His intellect and replies,” according to Luke’s report (verse 47).
  • Joseph and Mary were relieved to see that Jesus had been found in good health.
  • Mary was the one who asked the first question about what it all meant.
  • Whether it was because Jesus was created in her womb, or because she was the one who was more emotionally upset as a result of the days of searching, but Mary was seeking an explanation from her Son at this point.
  • “Son, why have You done this to us?” she enquired in verse 48.

A lot of parents would automatically allow their frustration or anger to dictate their actions, and they might even lash out at their child for causing them so much distress, but she seemed to know that her Son had never been irresponsible or rebellious, and so she sought an honest understanding of what He was up to.

“I must be about My Father’s business”

As a response to His mother’s question, Jesus stated: “Why were you looking for Me? “Did you not realize that I needed to attend to My Father’s business?” (See verse 49.) When Jesus announced that He would be staying in Jerusalem, there was no previous notice given. Perhaps He hoped that Joseph and Mary would come to the conclusion that He had vital job to do and that they would not be alarmed when He was gone for an extended period of time.

Spiritual understanding

As a child, Jesus’ parents must have had some meaningful discussions with one other. His mother would have repeated the narrative of His birth, as well as what Gabriel spoke to her nine months before His birth, to the other members of the family. Jesus also possessed an unlimited amount of His Father’s Spirit (34). Because the one whom God has sent communicates the words of God, and God does not deliver the Spirit according to a metric system. (John 3:34) New King James Version (NKJV)The Holy Bible, New King James Version, published in 1982 by Thomas Nelson”>The Holy Bible, New King James Version, published in 1982 by Thomas Nelson”> He had a clear understanding of why He was on this planet in the first place.

  • Perhaps Jesus believed that His parents would take all of this into consideration on this particular occasion and that this would alleviate any concerns they might have had regarding His whereabouts.
  • However, they were unable to comprehend the remark that He made to them.
  • Now that His parents had returned to claim Him, Jesus understood that he would soon begin his life’s work and take on His Father’s responsibilities.
  • So He traveled with them to Nazareth, where he was subjected to their authority, but His mother kept all of this information hidden in her heart.

By then, he would be prepared to confront the most difficult trial a man might ever face in his life.

Why did Luke record the story of Jesus as a boy in the temple?

In His infinite wisdom, Jesus’ heavenly Father did not intend for His Son to begin His great public mission until 18 years after his baptism.

  • Joseph got another visit from an angel and heeded the warning by escaping to Egypt. In order to avoid Herod’s mandate to murder all men under the age of two (in the aim of eliminating the infant Messiah), this was done (Matthew 2:13-14). Joseph was directed by the Lord to return to Israel following Herod’s death. There, Jesus developed into a remarkable and wise little child much above his years (Luke 2:39-40)
  • And

A kind man, Joseph diligently cared for and oversaw the child and his mother in every way that a natural father would have done. He safeguarded them, supplied for them, and reared his son in accordance with the traditions of the Hebrew faith, among other things. Throughout his life, Joseph sought God and fulfilled God’s commands in order to care for the infant who would later be known as Jesus Christ. God appears to have selected Joseph as well as Mary, and this appears to be the case. WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS?

God, the Father, sent His only Son to fulfill that judgment on behalf of all who place their faith in Him.

It is possible to be rescued from judgment and to spend forever with God in heaven if you sincerely believe and trust this in your heart, accepting Jesus alone as yourSavior, and announcing, “Jesus is Lord.” What is your reaction to this?

Yes, I have made the decision to follow Jesus as of today. Yes, I am already a believer of Jesus, but I still have some doubts about the faith.

Baby Jesus Was Kind of a Dick

The nativity scene is the most important emblem of the Christmas season for Christians. For over eight centuries, believers have been captivated by the image of animals, angels, Joseph, Mary, and the Three Wise Men solemnly adoring the newborn Christ in his bed. The image is known as the Nativity Scene. Some early Christian legends, however, claim that the “soft and meek” infant of Bethlehem did not remain that way for long. Young Christ appears to have the potential to be a true menace. There are little facts about Jesus’ life in the Bible, particularly between his circumcision at eight days old, his journey to Egypt, his brief stint impressing people in the temple in Jerusalem when he was 12 years old, and his baptism at 30 years old.

Mr.

That makes perfect sense.

“”People desired additional knowledge about Jesus that the gospels did not supply,” says Tony Burke, a professor of early Christianity at York University.

What was his personality like as a child?” A large number of legends concerning Jesus’ childhood have been recorded or produced by early Christians, who were already hard at work constructing other non-canonical biblical books—think thegnostic gospels and many other apocrypha—to remedy this issue.

Based on the language employed, Whitenton believes that it may have been a direct attempt to continue the story of infant Jesus contained in the canonical Gospel of Luke, which he believes to be the case.

In the course of translating or adapting these writings, additional components and stories were introduced, and even more tales began to circulate in separate folk traditions.

It is documented in the Infancy Gospel of Thomas that Thomas performed numerous miracles between the ages of five and twelve, including rescuing his brother James from a poisonous snake bite, stretching a beam to assist his father with carpentry work, and raising the corpse of a dead construction worker.

  1. A local scribe’s son gets on Jesus’ nerves, and he orders the youngster to “be withered like a tree,” meaning that he would not have leaves, roots, or fruit.
  2. An other incident occurs when Jesus condemns a youngster to death after accidentally bumping into him on the street.
  3. When Joseph attempts to speak with Lil’ Jesus about his inappropriate behavior, Jesus informs him that he is aware of the townspeople’s efforts to cause him trouble, and he blinds them all.
  4. At one point, Joseph bemoans the death of the child Christ, saying, “All those who provoke him to rage perish.” And that’s just one piece of writing.
  5. WATCH: Jesus of Siberia (in Russian) As far as we can tell, these gospels and other folk tales were not included in the bible until it was formalized in the 4th and 5th century by bringing together churches that had become state religions.

Specifically, he points out, “the difficulty for the InfancyThomas when it comes to dogma is that it opposes John’s Gospel’s narrative that Jesus’ first miracle was the miracle of the wine at the wedding in Cana.” Despite this, while some non-canonical books have fallen out of circulation or lost popularity over time, these accounts of a sometimes amazingly compassionate, sometimes awful child Jesus have survived for millennia in various forms.

Burke points out the infant gospels were found in dozens and dozens of manuscripts, according to Burke.

As a result, references to the miracles performed by the child Jesus may be found in abundance in medieval art.

The origins of this Christ to fill in the gaps in the core gospels are unknown, as is why centuries of Christians around the world have preserved this image rather than dramatically altering or removing it from the public square.

Several scholars, including Brandon Hawk, a medieval literature expert at Rhode Island College who is currently working on a translation of one of the infancy gospels, have suggested that medieval people may not have perceived these acts as vengeful curses at all, but rather as responses to what they perceived to be legitimate insults against God.

As Hawk explains, “the refusal of the Jewish characters to identify Jesus as Christ or to comprehend his miracles is intended to disgrace them.” The image was uploaded by Flickr user Waiting For The Word.

This means that medieval people in particular may have recognized a mirror of their own views on children in these stories: as irascible not-quite-adults, according to Dzon As a result of the tales, Jesus is humanized in this reading—he is converted into a maturing being who is learning to handle both his abilities and his human personality.

  1. is attributable to what we might think of as ‘growing pains,'” Whitenton continues, suggesting that the narratives depict his moral development as he matures into a man.
  2. It’s possible that the stories’ attractiveness and meaning have evolved from their initial rhetorical goal as a result of time and distance, with the effects varied depending on the period and place.
  3. “It was during the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter-Reformation that Western Europe’s interest in the gospels of the infants began to wane,” explains Hawk.
  4. In addition, Catholics who want to make their own reforms advocated for a return to the Scriptures.
  5. Other apocryphal traditions are still alive and well among European Christians and their descendants in the New World, although Burke points out that most of what survived was already part of established festivals or other comparable institutions at the time.
  6. That doesn’t rule out the possibility that modern Americans share the same impulsive, violent impulses that shaped this impulsive, violent young Jesus.
  7. Following the events depicted in this year’s biblical play The Young Messiah, we are still curious about what young Christ was up to at the time.

Despite the fact that modern man has brought the world stories of Jesus that are bizarre and violent, such as 2001’sJesus Christ Vampire Hunter(which you should watch at your peril), not even this irreverent and experimental age has come up with stories quite as theologically dense, narratively amusing, and morally disconcerting as the early Christians’ views of the young Jesus, asleep in his crib but ready to unleash his blessings and wrath on the world as soon as he wakes Mark Hay may be found on Twitter.

Joseph and Mary Bring Baby Jesus to the Temple

LUKE 2:21-39 (Luke 2:21-39)

  • INVITATION TO TEMPLE FOR JESUS, WHO IS CIRCUMCISED.

Instead of returning to Nazareth, Joseph and Mary choose to remain in Bethlehem. When Jesus is eight days old, his parents have him circumcised in accordance with God’s Law to the people of Israel. Leviticus 12:2 and 3 are examples of this. On that day, it is also customary to give a baby boy his first name to him. According to the instructions of the angel Gabriel, they name their son Jesus. Jesus has been alive for more than a month and is 40 days old. Where do his parents intend to take him now that he has grown up?

  1. According to the Law, a woman is expected to deliver a cleansing offering at the temple 40 days after giving birth to a boy.
  2. Mary is the one who does this.
  3. Joseph and Mary’s financial position can be inferred from this passage of Scripture.
  4. However, if the mother is unable to buy a ram, two turtledoves or two pigeons will be sufficient substitutes.
  5. An elderly gentleman approaches Joseph and Mary as they are entering the temple.
  6. God has revealed to him that he will see Jehovah’s promised Christ, also known as the Messiah, before he dies.
  7. Simeon picks up the infant and holds it in his arms.

Joseph and Mary are taken aback when they learn this.

— Luke 2:34 (NIV).

Anna, a prophetess of 84 years, answers the phone.

She arrives at the home of Joseph, Mary, and the newborn Jesus at precisely this time.

You can only imagine how happy Joseph and Mary are as a result of the happenings at the temple!

Why Did Jesus Come as a Baby? – Unfolding Faith Blog

The following is an excerpt from Why The Nativity? by David Jeremiah. New parents are entranced by their children during those early moments when they are unable to speak. They meticulously scrutinize every inch of their newborn child’s face with love and awe. No matter how much we prepare ourselves, the actuality of a new birth takes us completely by surprise. He or she is a brand-new member of the human race, and he or she is here, snuggled in our arms. Here is the future manifested in physical form; this is our bequest to the world.

  • Most of all, we silently express our gratitude to the Lord for providing us with such an incredible gift.
  • His arrival had been predicted not by physicians, but by angels in the form of a vision.

What makes you think a newborn may be the Son of God?

The necessity to save a collapsing, dying Israel was critical.

What is the reason, exactly?

Jesus is a one-of-a-kind individual because he was both completely human and totally divine at the same time.

Only by proving this to be true can he bring the Father in heaven and his children on earth back together.

According to this understanding, the Virgin Birth is a manifestation of his divinity.

Now we see that the Child’s infancy is an indication of his humanity in the same manner that his humanity is an evidence of his infancy.

Though he enters from heaven with perfection and holiness beyond the reach of any man or woman, he yet undertakes the entire human path, which even God in heaven had not undertaken.

After all, how could we possibly believe that he had undergone all of the temptations that we have experienced if he had skipped by the most difficult years of our lives when we are attempting to earn our adulthood?

To be honest, it wouldn’t have made much difference to us if he had emerged from heaven fully formed, showered in heavenly glory, and declared, “Here are my hands and my feet—please lay me on the cross because I am willing to die.” Instead, we view Jesus as a baby lying in a manger with his mother and father.

  1. As Jesus grew “in knowledge and in height and in favor with God and with all the people,” we picture Mary and Joseph looking at him, trying to figure out what he’s talking about (Luke 2:52 NLT).
  2. In the background, we hear his neighbors talking about him in whispers: “He’s simply a carpenter’s kid; we know Mary and his mother, as well as his brothers James, Joseph, and Simon—and we know his brother Judas.” “All of his sisters are right here in our midst” (Matthew 13:55-56).
  3. We can feel his affection for children, and we can trust him since he too had been a child at one point in his life.
  4. No credit cards or simple payment plans will be accepted as payment for our sins; instead, every single drop of blood and every harsh stroke of the whip will be used to pay the debt in full.
  5. In the event that He had been God alone, His sacrifice would have been cheap and ineffective.
  6. But He was both man and God, and as a result, He was the sum of all things.

Because He was God, we put our faith in Him with our lives. The reason we adore Him with all our hearts is because we know that He was once a little infant, wrapped in swaddling cloths, and sleeping in a manger.—
