‘Jesus’ at Sight & Sound Theatre: What you need to know about the Lancaster County show

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world travel to Lancaster County to witness a play put on by SightSound Theatres. But this isn’t just any old show; they’re come to see something special. The 2,000-seat theater produces gigantic musical shows that bring Bible tales to life on a 300-foot-wide panoramic stage, using elaborate scenery, live animals, and the most up-to-date technology and visual effects available. More:Forbes magazine has ranked Lancaster as one of the top ten trendiest cities to visit in the United States.

According to a press statement, each production is completely unique, having been written, produced, designed, and built by roughly 650 employees.

A video on the SightSound website has director and writer Josh Enck explaining that “this is not a retelling of a known narrative at all.” “The manner that we present some of these miracles is so entertaining, so adventurous, and so whimsical that I believe it will completely enthrall the entire family in the tale,” says the director.

“Jesus” opened on March 10 and will run until January 5 at the Strasburg Theatre, which is located at 300 Hartman Bridge Road in Strasburg Township.

  • The high-tech set contains one of the biggest LED displays ever utilized in a theatrical performance, which is one of the largest in the world. Approximately 30 feet tall and 113 feet broad, it weighs 12 tons and stands almost 30 feet tall and wide. Peter’s boat, which is employed during the storm scene, is controlled by a computer and has the ability to rise 8 feet in the air and move back and forth with the waves – all while transporting Jesus and his followers
  • And The Galilean Hillside, which extends more than 100 feet broad and 15 feet deep, is the set piece with the greatest amount of movement. In order to produce the 882 costumes for the play, more than 4 kilometers of cloth were required. There are 368 outfit designs and 2,400 costume pieces in all, including 288 wigs, in the production. To create all of the outfits, around 14,000 snaps had to be hand-sewed together. Two hours and thirty minutes are allotted for the production, which has a cast of 45 people. Horses, dogs, pigs, goats, lambs, camels, and alpacas are just a few of the live creatures that will be included in the event.
  • Adult tickets vary from $59 to $79, while children’s tickets range from $26 to $36 for those aged three to twelve. Visit sight-sound.com for tickets and other information. The theater is located at the following address:

Sight & Sounds’ JESUS always worth the watch – both online, in person

BRANSON – The name of the town is Branson. With much of the country hunkering down in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak last Easter, the Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN) broadcast the free performance JESUS from SightSound Theater. The chance presented itself and my family couldn’t help but take advantage of it. We thoroughly enjoyed the concert. As a result, my wife and I traveled to Branson, Missouri, this past autumn to see JESUS in person. Watching JESUS is a lovely and rewarding experience, whether it is done online or in person.

  1. The show’s emotional impact is heightened by the musical soundtrack and sound/visual effects, which include an incredible slow-motion sequence that left me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
  2. From His affection for children to His righteous fury at the mistreatment of His Father’s Temple, to His control over storms and demonic forces, to His compassion for lepers and outcasts, viewers get a sample of the many facets of his personality.
  3. We are then reminded of the depth of the spiritual fight that Jesus must have undergone before asking, “Not My will, but Yours be done,” as He empties out His soul in Gethsemane.
  4. Despite the fact that the show is available online through SightSound TV (), witnessing the performance in person in Branson is highly recommended.

Observing in person, and taking in a complete panorama of the stage, I was only able to note how, when Jesus was crucified, the remainder of His disciples sang these lines from the Lord’s Prayer: “For Thine is the kingdom, Thou hast given it to me, and to the glory forever.” Indeed, Christ’s crucifixion served as a kind of coronation for the Messiah.

My attention and inspiration were captured and sparked by a scenario in which Jesus leaves his disciples to “save the one” lost sinner while I was watching online.

On the other hand, it was a positive experience in that it opened my eyes to new components of the play that I hadn’t appreciated as much on my earlier watching.

The good news is that SightSound will continue to show JESUS until the end of 2022 – so perhaps I’ll be able to make it back there at some point. However, if I am unable to attend, there is a beautiful video of the performance available online. More information may be found at.

Jesus in Branson, MO

The name BRANSON comes from the French word meaning “brother.” The free broadcast of SightSound Theater’s JESUS was broadcast on the Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN) during the COVID-19 outbreak that hit the United States last Easter. The chance presented itself to my family and we couldn’t help but take advantage of it, and we thoroughly enjoyed the concert. As a result, my wife and I traveled to Branson, Missouri, this past autumn to witness JESUS in person. Watching JESUS is a great and rewarding experience, whether you do it online or in person.

  • The show is available on DVD.
  • I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
  • At Lazarus’ grave, we see Him sobbing.
  • “Not My will, but Yours be done,” Jesus declares.
  • The breeze off the Sea of Galilee may be felt by those who are in attendance when Jesus walks on water and the action across the stage can be more clearly seen if you are in attendance.
  • When I saw the play in person, it served as a reminder to me that every performance is unique, with various performers and even varied patterns of movement across the stage.
  • With a changed cast and onstage movement during the Branson play, this sequence did not elicit the same emotional response in me that it had previously.
  • This simply increases my want to see the show again because each performance has a distinct punch.

SightSound will be presenting JESUS through the end of 2022, so perhaps I’ll be able to return there at some point in the future. Alternatively, if I’m not able to attend, there is a beautiful video of the performance available online. Click here to find out more.

On May 20, 2020, a verified purchase was reviewed in the United States. We have visited Sight and Sound Productions in the past, but this is the first time we have watched a film produced by them. You will be transported directly to the theater, where you will witness one of the greatest and most thorough depictions of the life of Jesus Christ that has ever been put together. You are lured into it and have the impression that you have been right there in the presence of our Savior. It’s a beautiful piece of work.

  • How did they get Jesus to walk on water on stage?!
  • Emotional and realistic props, that massive background screen, the quality of the voices, and most of all, the message that spoke to my soul: He left the 99 when I was the 1!
  • The play is filled with examples of how Jesus not only reached out to everyone collectively, but also to each and every one of us individually.
  • Jesus is a God who knows and cares about you!
  • Christians are sometimes subjected to low-budget, low-quality Christian television series and movies – but Sight and Sound stands out for the high level of quality and professionalism displayed in their productions.
  • I can’t recommend this Christian firm highly enough to everyone!
  • Pay a visit to their performances in Ronks, Pennsylvania, and Branson, Missouri.

You will never be sorry, and you will be blessed as a result!

Purchase that has been verified Sight and Sound is responsible for some of the most spectacular stage presentations in the world.

The music is excellent, the acting is professional, the lighting is on the money (pun intended), and the computer graphics/background scenery/platform methods are straight out of a Hollywood production.

While some of those sequences are featured, the most of them are not of the expected variety.

It concentrates on specific miracles while interweaving them with a variety of other documented miracles that we are all know.

It is my belief that even if you are new to the faith or an atheist, you can still completely comprehend the Life and Purpose of Jesus as it is being played out in the Bible.

Instead than having a solo or choir perform by themselves, the songs are blended into the performance (most of the time at least).

You will shed tears of delight when you see the last moments.

It’s very great.

On May 29, 2021, a review was published in the United States of America.

I wasn’t disappointed.

However, I was dissatisfied with the final outcome.

As a result, it was unable to accurately describe any incident, and character development suffered as a result.

The walking on water moment was very breathtaking, but the rest of the show was a disappointment.

On May 24, 2020, a review was published in the United States of America.

I wanted to have it at my house so that I could watch it over and over again, but I was first underwhelmed by the streaming quality.

Maybe I’ll have to upgrade my browser.

The actress who portrays Jesus’ mother cried with the most authentic and unique cry I have ever heard from an actress.

That’s what I call acting.

Purchase that has been verified For Christian families, this is an absolute must-have.

On November 15, 2021, a review was published in the United States, confirming the purchase.

That is what I believe.

Consequently, the question becomes, “How can we tell it a second time?” Yes, this is of the highest caliber.

My memory is completely blank, and I can’t recollect a single song from my childhood.

It has a strong desire to be in the spotlight more often.

This will be a significant addition to the “Sight.” verified purchaseReviewed in the United States on June 2, 2021Verified Purchase The video production was much improved thanks to the efforts of Sight and Sound.

I adore the performing arts and this is one of my favorites; but, I have purchased other DVDs from Sight and Sound when the technology and editing were less sophisticated, making it difficult to “get into” the narrative line.

On the stunning presentation of Jesus, the subjects get up up and personal with him. Our family and friends have thoroughly enjoyed it, and we hope you will too.

Located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the heart of Amish country and with a logo that reads “Where the Bible comes to life,” SightSound Theatres is a family-owned and operated business. This company’s increasing repertory of Biblical stage extravaganzas — which includes performances based on the lives of Noah, Moses, Samson, Daniel, and nowQueen Esther, among others — places a strong emphasis on spectacle and stagecraft. It goes without saying that live animals are essential in presenting the stories of creation and Noah’s ark, but my family and I have attended their presentation of Moses, and there were a lot of animals in that show as well.

  • Originally scheduled for a Fathom release this year, their production ofJesus has been postponed because to the COVID-19 outbreak that is affecting the country.
  • (For further details, please see JesusEvent.com.) The magnificent walking on water performance, which takes place a little more than an hour into the 140-minute play and was shot in front of a live audience at their main theater, is the show’s high point.
  • Jesusprovides maximum spectacle and heightened emotions within a narrative framework that has been altered from the Gospels in a variety of ways that vary from stunningly compelling to doubtful in their accuracy and credibility.
  • Following the events of Matthew’s Gospel, Peter approaches to Jesus in this scenario, dips beneath the waters as he begins to doubt, and is miraculously raised up by Jesus and carried into the boat by Jesus.
  • Then Jesus calms the tempest, and it is at this point that John, rather than Peter, makes the dramatic confession of Jesus as the Son of God, a confession that is triumphantly echoed in song by the entire Twelve.
  • Jesusprovides maximum spectacle and heightened emotions within a narrative framework that has been altered from the Gospels in a variety of ways that vary from stunningly compelling to doubtful in their accuracy and credibility.
  • (The two episodes are linked in all of the Gospels, with the exception of Luke, who does not mention Jesus walking on water.) Probably not in the least.

It’s not a big deal.

It is noteworthy that Peter is never referred to as “Simon,” nor is the name “Peter” ever mentioned as a surname given to him by Jesus.

At the Last Supper, Jesus hints to the meaning of Peter’s title as “the rock,” which occurs later in the performance).

“I gave him more than that,” Jesus responds in a mysterious manner.

The fact that James and John, the sons of Zebedee, also refer to themselves as “the Sons of Thunder” before ever meeting Jesus makes the allegation of anti-papal revisionism even more difficult to sustain — even if this is a nickname given to them by Jesus himself in the Gospels!

The sons of Zebedee and the sons of John (Peter and Andrew) are introduced as brawling competitors rather than as partners in this start.

When Peter becomes enraged at James and John for tangling his nets and taking his fishing place, he picks a fight with them, and both he and Andrew are humiliated in the resulting altercation, which is filmed on location in the Bahamas.

Peter’s empty nets are as much a source of frustration as the loss of the battle.

It’s a low time in the production’s early stages, and it’s possible that it’s the worst moment.

Using his cloak to shield the guy, Jesus pulls a bottle from his hands and briefly wraps his arms over him, causing the man to awaken somewhat.

“I gave him more than that,” Jesus responds in a mysterious manner.

It’s then on to Luke’s story of Jesus’ miraculous capture of fish, which includes a well-executed effect that offers us a peek beneath the surface as the fish circles the boat before being caught in a net, as well as the summoning of Jesus’ initial disciples.

Using a brief, bizarre reenactment (Jesus isn’t even there at first, yet the multiplication of loaves and fishes is ascribed to him), the play transitions into scenes from the Sermon on the Mount (which is ascribed to Jesus).

Despite the fact that the production takes an eclectic path that draws inspiration from all four Gospels, the overall feel of the play is mostly Johannine.

It is skilfully wedged between Jesus’ interaction with Nicodemus and the cure of the man born blind, prompting Nicodemus to ask out in song whether he also is blind.

The wives of Peter and Zebedee do express their delight that the boys have stopped fighting, but that is about the extent of the play’s interest in the themes of its own first act, aside from a couple of callbacks later on.

That’s a nuance that was missed in the initial bluster of “Boys of Galilee” (John the Baptist makes no appearance here).

In accordance with the Fourth Gospel, the purification of the Temple takes place early rather than late.

During the build-up to Jesus’ trial, Nicodemus exclaims, “Jesus is God!” – a moment of profound theological clarity that is possibly even too Johannine for John to bear witness to in his own Gospel.

In one scene, a guy who looks to be Mary’s pimp attempts to collect her, snarling that Jesus couldn’t possibly have transformed her.

Gregory the Great, is today widely considered to be unfairly disparaged.

The exegetical problems are acknowledged in a lighthearted line of dialogue regarding the confusingly high number of women named Mary in the Jesus account.) The most famous of the Marys is, of course, the mother of Jesus, whose dignified portrayal appears to reflect genuine ecumenical consideration.

Mary is asked whether Jesus ever caused her any problem as a child by the wife of Zebedee, prompting a beaming Mary to tell the story of the discovery in the Temple, one of the production’s efforts at casual comedy.

… The disciples range in appearance from blond Andrew to dark-haired Judas, who is troublingly the most Jewish-looking of the Twelve and, I believe, the only one who doesn’t wear a kippah (a Jewish head covering) (or yarmulke).

Her son John is a hulking black guy, whereas her son James, who is white like his father, is a lanky white man.

Jesus has reddish hair and a very Aryan appearance.

The agony in the Garden, which plays up the non-canonical idea of Satan tempting Jesus while he is in agony, is perhaps the most dramatically un-Johannine episode.

Jesus overcomes this temptation, and what follows is a startlingly quick amalgamation of Jesus’ trials and crucifixion, handled as a montage set to the well-known 1935 Albert Hay Malotte rendition of the Lord’s Prayer spoken by the mother of Jesus and John the Baptist.

(During the performance, a glowing nimbus descends on Jesus’ body and suffuses it — and Jesus sits up, drawing applause from the audience.) The manifestations of the Resurrection are restricted to the apparition to Mary Magdalene and the Ascension of the Lord.

What is perhaps the most regrettable aspect of thisJesusis how much of the implicit context and background to conflict in the Gospels is omitted rather than explained.

The quality of the costumes is also noteworthy.

Until the triumphant entry, when Roman troops emerge out of nowhere and make a comment about Pilate’s power over his people, Rome is not even mentioned in the play.

Instead, their beef with Jesus is based on his religious non-traditionalism, which they find offensive.

“Someone like you has no place in religion,” says the priest.

The only reference to disagreements over the interpretation of the Torah is a single incident of healing on the Sabbath that occurred late in the day.

Throughout the show, the stagecraft is spectacular and inventive.

The quality of the costumes is also noteworthy.

Despite the script’s dramatic and theological inconsistencies, this is an excellent accomplishment that goes well beyond the script’s shortcomings.
