How and Why Do We Require the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Whenever we think of Christ’s atonement, the images that come to mind are those of the garden of Gethsemane and the crucifixion. Although these are the most important events in our human history, there were other events that occurred before to the atonement that made the atonement necessary in the first place. We must go back to the beginning of the human tale in order to better comprehend why Gethsemane and the crucifixion are the culmination of the human journey.

The groundwork is in God’s laws

It is necessary to first comprehend how God operates in order to comprehend why things happen the way they do. He does his business in accordance with the law. Before anything can be made, it must first be defined and given the space to work within the confines of its own existence before it can be created. Consider the fact that God established principles of behaviour that we now refer to as the gospel that existed before we were given our spirit bodies. If one of God’s offspring were to commit murder while on earth, and if there had not been any law in place prior to the crime being committed that prohibited murder, then no reasonable punishment could be meted out for the murder of another person.

Before any blessing or punishment can be given, there must first be a law that defines acceptable behavior.

This is where I got the idea for the murder example that I just presented.

The boundaries of acceptable behavior must be established by rules that God has established, otherwise there will be no justice.
A set of laws is established for what will be formed before it is created by God.
This holds true for everything in the universe, as well as for all of God’s children everywhere.
Without laws, there can be no justice or mercy.
Everything in the cosmos is governed by the laws established by our heavenly Father.
Unfortunately, the regulations do not allow for pity or forgiveness, only for the administration of justice.

Anyone who breaches a law will be subject to the punishment of that law for the rest of their lives unless they can come up with a means to pay for their actions, and that payment will have to be accomplished in such a way that it is permanent and flawless.

Adam and Eve

This takes us to the incident that triggered the need for atonement, namely, the fall of Adam and Eve. There would be no need for an atonement if Adam and Eve had not sinned in the first place. Let’s start with a few terms and definitions. Whenever we speak of Adam and Eve falling, we are referring to their transition from a condition of grace, favor, and being in harmony with God’s rules to a position of disobedience and violation of those laws. They moved from being justified by God’s laws to being condemned by God’s laws as a result of their actions.

In the Bible, we are told that when Adam and Eve were formed, they were placed in the Garden of Eden to live.
Adam and Eve were born with eternal bodies.
If nothing had happened, they would have spent the rest of eternity in the same condition of innocence that they had when they were born, just like young children.
The Lord personally wedded Adam and Eve and instructed them about their roles and obligations as a result.
To put it another way, “Go have children.” The second legislation we were aware of stated that it was their responsibility to maintain the garden.
One of these was the Tree of Life, which allowed them to live indefinitely.
They were instructed that they may eat from any tree in the garden with the exception of one.

Not even touching the tree was permitted, let alone eating any of the fruit it produced.

That was a really straightforward arrangement.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly for a while.

As soon as Adam and Eve disobeyed one of God’s commandments, regardless of the reason for the disobedience, they were subject to God’s judgment under the laws that he had established.

For starters, they were no longer permitted to be in the presence of God.

Spiritual death is defined as the severance of the individual from their heavenly Father.

To experience physical death as a result of physical death, an immortal entity first had to become mortal.

They were separated from God on a spiritual level, which was the first death.

Now that they were no longer innocent, but could distinguish between right and wrong, as well as good and evil, they were allowed to have children, and their progeny would be exposed to both sorts of death.

They were free to choose their actions, but they were unable to control the repercussions of their actions.

Those ramifications were a result of the rules they broke, just as their happiness was dependent on the ones they followed. For us, life is no different than for others. Our penalties and blessings are all related to the rules that we follow or breach, and this is true for both good and bad.

An atonement is needed

What does this mean for the rest of humanity? As a result of Adam and Eve’s posterity being born into a condition of being cut off from the presence of God, and as a result of all of their descendants dying, everyone who came to mortality had only permanent death to anticipate. Under these circumstances, once we die, we become subject to Satan, and we would all be demons, or subjects to a devil, after we died. What a dreadful predicament to find yourself in. This is why people talk of the sting of death as well as the victory of the tombstone.

Our Father, to our great benefit, elected Jesus to be our Savior and Redeemer on the cross.
He is the only one who can do this.
We have no genuine understanding of what He went through in the Garden of Gethsemane.
We only know that He did it out of love for us and for our heavenly Father, and that He did it in order to save us.
The term “atonement” refers to the act of reconciling two parties.

How does the atonement work?

The belief in the atonement is the foundational conviction in the entire plan of salvation. Everything we do, say, and believe is influenced by it. It is not readily comprehended, and it is never completely comprehended. I’d want to briefly highlight four aspects of the atonement that I believe are important. 1.There is no need for remorse in the case of little children. The fact that they are still innocent, just as Adam and Eve were, means that they cannot be held accountable for their actions.

This includes anyone under the age of majority who lives outside the law and is incapable of taking responsibility for their actions, regardless of their age.
When people die without ever hearing the gospel, they will be saved if they would have accepted the gospel with all their hearts if they had the opportunity to hear it during their mortal lives.
Despite the fact that Alvin died before the restoration of the gospel, Joseph had a vision in which he saw Alvin sitting on a throne in heaven.

If they deny the Savior’s payment on their behalf, they shall be held personally liable in accordance with applicable legislation.
They will not be able to rely on the Savior’s suffering to ease the blow that will befall them.
In hell, people will suffer to the extent that their bodies are capable of suffering as a result of every evil that they have ever done.

The following is how Jesus portrayed their suffering: 17But if they would not repent, they must suffer as I did;18Which suffering caused myself, even God, the most high and most exalted, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and wished that I would not drink the bitter cup, and shrink back from the throne of my glory.

He will make a formal request of the Father on their behalf, pleading with the Father to forgive them for the sake of His Son, Jesus Christ.
As a result of the action and suffering of His loving Son, God grants us the opportunity to be forgiven.
No, but it does provide for the possibility of repentance.
That is certainly true!
Jesus provides mercy to us in the form of forgiveness for the commandments that we have broken along the way if we repent by obeying them and doing all in our ability to please God.
We owe everything to Christ, since if it weren’t for Him, we would be lost for ever.
We give thanks to the names of Adam and Eve for providing the conditions under which the atonement of Christ might be made available to all people.
Every one of us has the chance, if we choose to accept it, to become perfect in Christ’s image and to dwell with God for all eternity, never having to leave their presence again, because of His atoning sacrifice.

Why You Need the Atonement in Your Life (and it’s not just about Sin)

Many individuals only seek Christ’s assistance when they are in trouble. However, the Atonement is not just for the purpose of atoning for sins. Everything is covered by the Atonement. Health, Illness, and Injury

In the fall of 2016, I suffered a back injury. So that I could get out of bed and move around with my family instead of being confined to my bed.

He understood what it was like to have burst discs in your back.

The first time I felt calm and serenity in my heart since I was injured was the day after I received my injuries.

It seemed like there was a warm embrace enveloping me, like if someone was hugging me. I continued to attend to physical therapy and work on strengthening my muscles. When the 2017 winter semester started in January, I was able to go back to school. I was just happy that I could walk without pain.

Rejection

The agony of rejection is one of the many challenges that we must endure throughout our time on this planet. This is especially true for teens who are surrounded by their classmates. They are subjected to rejection based on their beliefs, the color of their skin, their gender, their interests, their physical shape, and their popularity, among other factors. When I was a youngster, I was subjected to a great deal of rejection because of my appearance. People who I considered to be my friends bullied me because of my size or because I was trying to do the right thing.

Jesus went through all of this for me so that He would be able to console me when I came to Him for help.
It is important for those who are experiencing this type of sorrow to understand that our Savior has also endured this type of anguish and that, through His Atonement, He provides the strength to bear it.
He instills in us the confidence that we didn’t realize we have.
We are aware that our spiritual development necessitates ‘resistance in all things’ (2 Nephi 2:11).

Addiction

Our spirits are being crushed as a result of this. Some of you may be familiar with someone who is addicted to pornographic material or illegal narcotics. The hold that these addictions have on people is tremendous. Whether this is a problem for you or a loved one, you must turn to the Atonement for help. It has the effect of “loosening the hold” that addiction has on you. To overcome this, turn to the Savior and get His strength through His Word. Many of my friends have struggled with substance abuse issues throughout their lives.

I have a food addiction that I can’t control.
That is taken care of by the Atonement!
This is the point at which we turn to repentance.
Does God’s Son, our Savior, and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, fully comprehend the ultimate cleansing power of the Atonement he committed on our behalf?
The Savior, in a supreme act of love, paid the consequences for our crimes so that we would not be obligated to do it ourselves.

For those who sincerely desire it, there is a route back to where they started. Repentance can be compared to a laundry detergent. Even the most deeply embedded stains of sin will be removed” (Boyd K. Packer, Cleansing the Inner Vessel).

The Atonement Covers Everyone

This is as difficult for me to believe as it is for everyone else. It’s incredible to imagine that God would care so much about us that He would send His Son to die in our place. In order to provide us with the comfort we require. When I was in high school, I had quit praying for various reasons. I had the impression that God didn’t care about me and that there was no way out. Why would I believe anything otherwise when I was constantly told that I was unworthy of anything? It was difficult to adjust to college life and meet new acquaintances.

I believed that I was unlovable and that there was no reason for Jesus to have made the Atonement for my sins on the cross.
And how it would grow to be a source of comfort for me.
I was really homesick, and I was both frightened and afraid to be on my own for the first time since I’d left my family.
I was suffering from depression and anxiety attacks at the time.
She was just incredible.
She accompanied me when I went to see the Bishop, and she remained by my side on a daily basis after that, simply listening to me and assisting me in better understanding God.
The atoning experience of our Savior in mortality enables Him to soothe, cure, and strengthen all men and women worldwide; nevertheless, I think that He does so only for those who seek Him and ask for His assistance.

Young Women Lesson: Why Do I Need the Atonement of Jesus Christ?

You are a person who is physically and verbally violent and who has made death threats against others. As an illustration, suppose you have a buddy who is suffering from an eating disorder.
You discuss your concerns with your family and with a friend of the family.

You have done everything you can, and the Savior is well aware of this. You are at ease knowing that your efforts are sufficient, and you are confident that the Savior is thinking of your buddy and will assist him.

Part III. Hope for a better world

Organize a time for class participants to reflect on someone they have lost – either via death or relocation.

If they are unable to recall anybody who has passed away, ask them to think of someone they admire and would miss
You may also ask them to consider the destruction caused by the recent epidemic, as well as the spiritual impact it has had on those who have remained on the planet. Why the Atonement of Jesus Christ Was Necessary

The exact definition of the term “Atonement” is at-one-ment, which refers to the process of bringing something back together or reconciling something that has been divided. Why the Effects of the Atonement of Jesus Christ Are Conditional

God cannot compel His children to recognize Him or to accept His purpose since they are protected by the guaranteesagencyto. Many of His offspring have turned their backs on Him. The Atonement of Jesus Christ makes it possible for men and women to return to the presence of God after their resurrection, but only if they believe in Christ and seek to be reconciled to God. The Scope of the Atonement of Jesus Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ not only died in order to give Himself as a ransom for the sins of mankind, but He also took upon Himself all of the sorrow, grief, and suffering of every living being’s soul in order that every man would receive sweet comfort through Him. The Atonement is beneficial not just to the offender, but also to those who have been wronged—that is, the victims of the sin. The Atonement, via forgiving “those who transgress against us” (Matthew 6:12, Joseph Smith Translation), gives a measure of peace and solace to individuals who have been unwittingly victimized by the crimes of others.

The injured should do everything they can to get through their ordeals, and the Savior will “succor his people according to their infirmities,” according to the Bible.
Some wounds are so painful and deep that they can’t be healed without the assistance of a higher force and the prospect of full justice and reparation in the next life, which is not always possible.

Given that He was the Son of God, He inherited from His heavenly Father the ability to conquer death. Christ got the power to die from his human mother, Mary, who was a virgin. As a result, He was the only one who had the ability to lay down His life and then pick it back up in the resurrection.

Gethsemane and Golgotha

The physical components of Jesus Christ’s Atonement are frequently emphasized by Christians (including many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) when they speak of his sacrifice for our sins. They frequently speak of the crown of thorns that was placed upon the Savior’s head, His scourging by Roman troops, and the agony He endured when nails were hammered into his hands and feet, to name a few things. Certainly, these were traumatic tragedies, and they are significant components of the Atonement.

The night before He was killed, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane with the three apostles Peter, James, and John, who were the leaders of the Jewish community.

In His atoning agony, the Savior—the Light and Life of the world—saw blood pushed from His body as the crushing weight of the world’s sins forced it out through every pore.

“My spirit is terribly sad, almost to the point of death,” He told His apostles (Mark 14:34).

In passionate prayer, the Savior begged His Father to “take this cup away from me; yet, not according to my will, but according to thy will” (Mark 14:35–36), saying, “Take away this cup from me.” During long hours of prayer, the Lord poured out His soul, and His blood trickled to the earth from His body.

During this trying time, Jesus took upon himself the infirmities of all mankind and entered into a covenant with the Father and with all of mankind, promising to assist all who come to him in overcoming all sinful or negative characteristics and replacing them with positive Christlike characteristics, if they so choose.

The agony of Christ in the garden, when He took upon Himself the sins and suffering of mankind, is emphasized in Latter-day Saint scriptures.

The blood of Jesus Christ is a sign of the purifying power of the Holy Spirit, which is symbolized by the cross.

Mosiah 5:2 (Mosiah 5:2) This is the “Good News” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it is also the reason why no cross is displayed in any Latter-day Saint meetinghouse or temple in the world.

The Need for Atonement

God revealed to His people that He would accept one life as a replacement for another when He permitted Abraham to offer up a ram instead of his son Isaac (Genesis 22:13–14). Of course, the greatest replacement God has ever supplied is His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who was sacrificed on the cross for the redemption of His people more than 2,000 years ago today (Rom. 8:32). We will be basing our study on Dr. R.C. Sproul’s teaching series The Cross of Christ for the next week in order to go further into the atonement of Jesus Christ – the payment for our sin — in order to better understand it.

The crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus are without a doubt the most important aspects of the Christian narrative.
In fact, it is possible to claim that the New Testament, and indeed the whole Bible, is only concerned with explaining the importance of the crucifixion and nothing else.

Forgiveness implies taking the steps necessary to bring about reconciliation or the reunification of two parties who are at odds with one another. It entails making apologies or compensating someone for a violation, a wrong, or a harm that occurred. It is attempting to correct an imbalance that has been produced through wrongdoing. A breach of the law necessitates restitution, which can be accomplished by the payment of a fine or the service of a jail sentence. In certain cultures, the death of the offender of a particularly terrible crime is required as atonement for the crime.

Why doweneed atonement?

In the Bible, sin is defined as the violation of God’s rule and will. As a result, sin is incompatible with God and eternal life. In the Bible (Romans 8:6-8; 1 John 3:4-10) When the people disobeyed God, the formerly harmonious relationship between God and them was gravely harmed. You and I were among those who suffered irreparable harm that affected all generations. Because sin had come between God and humanity, they were no longer able to enjoy the close fellowship that they had previously had and that God so much desired.

In addition to bodily death, we will experience eternal separation from God in our soul as a result of this event.

That is how terrible the situation is.

How do we receive atonement?

There is only one thing that can alleviate God’s wrath against sin: the death of Christ on the cross. However, if God were to execute every sinner on the face of the globe in order to atone for the crimes they had done, it would spell the end of mankind. God, on the other hand, is a kind and patient God who delights in His creation, and especially in human people. He does not wish for them to perish, but rather to repair His connection with them and to enjoy fellowship with them in this life.

Atonement under the Old Covenant law

During the time of the Old Covenant, individuals might bring an animal to the temple to be sacrificed, such as a lamb. The animal has to be flawless and free of blemishes to qualify. The death of the animal in their place atoned for the crimes of the humans, and they were therefore pardoned. In order to atone for your sins, I have given you the life of thefleshis in blood, which I have placed on the altar to make atonement for your souls; since it is blood that makes atonement for the soul.” Leviticus 17:11 is a verse from the book of Leviticus.

The blood of animals, on the other hand, served as a symbol, but it was powerless to prevent humans from transgressing. It was necessary to atone for one’s sins over and over again. In Hebrews 10:1-4, the Bible says, It was obvious that something needed to be done differently.

Atonement and propitiation through Jesus in the New Covenant

It was Jesus who brought about the transformation, who was the Son of God but who “emptied Himself” and became a human person with the same human nature as all of us, which means He was tempted in all ways just as we are. However, Jesus was also born of God’s Spirit, and this Spirit followed Him throughout His life, providing Him with the will and the power to resist temptation, resulting in His never committing a sin. According to the Scriptures (Matthew 1:18-22; Luke 1:30-35; Philippians 2:5-8; Hebrews 4:15; and Isaiah 61:1-3) To conclude, Jesus was executed as a criminal, despite the fact that he was the only human being in all of history who was absolutely clean and free of sin.

Jesus was made the propitiation for our sins, which means that God’s overwhelming wrath against sin was turned aside from all people who put their faith in Him and His work on the cross.

A gift of grace

We are completely powerless to earn God’s forgiveness and salvation on our own. (Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9, among other passages.) Atonement via forgiveness is a free gift that is made possible completely by God’s kindness, love, and longsuffering, and which we must accept by faith. The Bible says, “For sin is the wages of death, but the gift of God is everlasting life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Paul writes in Romans 6:23. You may learn about the gift of grace that comes via Jesus in Romans 5.

True, we are all sinners, we have all transgressed, and we are all greedy and egotistical by nature, but this is not the case.

Sin has no future in eternity, and we would have no hope of surviving if it weren’t for the kindness and love of Jesus Christ, who offered His life to pay the penalty for our transgressions.

We will never be able to express our gratitude and praise to Him sufficiently for this!

What happens after we receive atonement?

The animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant only atoned for individual crimes committed since “the last time,” but they did not address the core cause of sin – the lusts and impulses to sin that are inherent in human nature. Because people were weak and transgressed on a regular basis, the cycle of sin and forgiveness continued indefinitely. The sacrifice of Jesus, according to the New Covenant, atoned for all of the sins of the entire world! However, it is the manner in which His life and death made this possible that is of critical significance to everyone who believe in Him and wish to follow in His footsteps.

God was able to achieve in Jesus what the Old Covenant law and sacrifices were unable to do: He was able to condemn sin in the flesh.

We can follow Jesus since He has commanded us to do so.

It was through the atonement that we were given the chance to start anew, and Jesus’ example and the Holy Spirit whom He has given us offer us the opportunity to conquer as He did and inherit all things with Him! 7th Chapter of Revelation
