Background

The song was written by Crowder and originally released as a single. “There isn’t a single one of us who can’t empathize with and understand what it feels like to be chained and bound to anything,” Crowder explained about the inspiration for the song. We are well aware that we are not living in the freedom that has been granted to us through Christ. We have such faith in something as monumental as the salvific work of God’s one and only son, which is why this hymn is so upbeat and cheerful.

I got to witness a tangible representation of what it looks like to discover physical freedom, and that’s what this song is all about.

It is written in the key of A Major with a pace of 127 beats per minute and is entitled “All My Hope.”

Reception

A favourable review for the single was given by Joshua Andre of 365 Days of Inspiring Media, who stated that the faster pace and additional instrumentation provided the song “a richer sound and perhaps a richness and a depth that isn’t heard on the piano-heavy original version.” Andre also thought that Tauren Wells’ vocals added to the overall quality of the song.

All My Hope

A prodigal has returned, and I have been embraced by the Savior, I have felt fire from above, I have been down to the river, and I am not the same. All of my hope is placed in Jesus. Thank God that yesterday is no longer a part of our lives. All of my misdeeds have been forgiven. And the blood has cleansed away my sins. I’ve spent a lot of time in prison. I’ve been restrained by shackles and chains. However, I have been set free and pardoned. Also, I’m not going back; I’m not going to be the same person again.

  • All of my hope is placed in Jesus.
  • All of my misdeeds have been forgiven.
  • Bring him to his knees with a hammer.
  • Yes, Lord, that is correct.
  • Come on, sing along, since all of my hope is in Jesus.
  • Yes, I have received forgiveness for all of my sins.
  • Thank God that yesterday is no longer a part of our lives.

Yes, I have received forgiveness for all of my sins. Yes, the blood has cleansed me, oh, the blood has cleansed me. Authors of the song: David Crowder and Edmond Martin Cash Lyrics to “All My Hope” Music Services, Inc. is a company that provides music services.

History of Hymns: All My Hope – declares an abiding trust in God

“I have a firm foundation on which to build my hopes.” Translated by Fred Pratt Green from the German author Joachim Neander No. 132 in the University of Michigan Hymnal It is in the great and living Lord that all my trust is securely planted; he never fails to honor his word when I am in the most need of him. In God, I must put my complete confidence, in God who is always good and righteous. This hymn was composed in 1680 by Joachim Neander (1650-1680), author of the classic “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” (UM Hymnal, No.

  • The original German text may be found here (1903-2000).
  • He graduated from Liverpool University and was ordained as a British Methodist pastor in 1928.
  • However, despite his late beginning, he is widely regarded as one of the best hymn writers of the twentieth century.
  • It is possible that his success as a hymn writer was based on his previous experience as a poet throughout his life and professional activity.
  • John Wilson, a British musician and hymn tune composer, approached Green about retranslating this hymn from its original German.
  • Green was initially perplexed as to what was wrong with Robert Bridges’ 1899 rendition, “All My Hope on God is Founded,” but later realized that it was not a literal translation, but rather a work of inspiration based on the original language.
  • He consulted with Wilson, who advised that verses three and four be condensed to make them more concise.
  • There is some consistency between the two, however, in that the hymn tune chosen for theUM Hymnali is the same as the hymn melody that is generally associated with the Bridges translation, Herbert Howells’ MICHAEL, which is the same as the Bridges translation.

The first alteration occurs in the second line of the first stanza, when “our great and living Lord” is changed to “the great and alive Lord.” The second change occurs in the third line of the first stanza, where “our great and living Lord” becomes “the great and living Lord.” The majority of the remaining alterations simply replace masculine pronouns such as “he” with “God” and “his” with “God’s” or “the” and “his” with “God’s” or “the.” Another alteration in verse four is the substitution of “strong in deed” for “strong in deed.” Because it is a pretty literal translation of another poet’s poetry, this hymn is not a perfect example of Green’s style, but it does illustrate many features of his style and religion.

Only a few three-syllable words and one four-syllable word (“forevermore”) are used in the language, which is straightforward.

The hymn does feature one of his characteristic rhetorical inquiries, which is as follows: Tell me, who can put their faith in our human nature, which is frail and insecure?

When it comes to nature, Green’s style and theological focus on stewardship of the world are shown by the language of the opening verse, which includes references to “time and season,” “whole creation,” “earth and air,” and “time and season again.” With its framing of our human imperfection with faith in God’s providence, this song for communion is a magnificent offering.

This hymn was composed only a few years before he and his wife relocated to a Methodist retirement home, according to the hymnal.

As a result, this song might be considered semi-autobiographical in nature.

Crowder’s fresh hymn “All My Hope” will move you

“All My Hope,” a song from Crowder’s 2016 album American Prodigal, had us fascinated from the opening gospel piano chords of “All My Hope.” The song’s melody differs from the majority of contemporary Christian songs, which frequently aim to create a tranquil ambiance or include pop elements into the Christian themes. The genuine worth of this song may be found in the simplicity of the arrangement and the sincerity with which the lyrics are delivered. Crowder and Tauren Wells, who is featured on the tune, are able to fully showcase their amazing vocals because of the soothing chord progression played on solo piano throughout the song.

  • Even yet, when the two of them sing together, they sound incredible.
  • It is only after that, when you hear him sing, that you are like, “I give up!” Just to hear this guy speak.
  • That is true, and I was thinking to myself at the time we were recording his piece of the record, ‘Hey dude, I’ll be in Nashville on such and such day,’ and that was the case.
  • Crowder was the lead vocalist of the David Crowder Band, which is no longer in existence.
  • Tauren Wells is a Christian singer/songwriter from the United States who was the lead man for the band Royal Tailor.
  • In the following interview, Crowder discusses his inspiration for the song “All My Hope,” which may be seen below:

Aprodigal returned has been held by the Savior, has felt fire from above, has been down to the river, and hasn’t returned the same way. All of my hope is in Jesus, and I am grateful that yesterday is no longer an issue. All of my misdeeds have been forgiven. • I’ve been heartbroken more than a few times, thank you very much.
  • Then He scooped me up and took me to see him.

Yes, I have received forgiveness for all of my sins. I’ve had my blood cleaned off of me. Come on, sing along, for all of my hope is in Jesus, and thank God that yesterday is over. Yes, I have received forgiveness for all of my sins. The blood has wiped away my sins, oh my sins.

Gold City ‘All My Hope’ Named #1 Southern Gospel Song of 2019

Nashville, Tennessee (USA) (January 10, 2020) New Haven Records recently welcomed the announcement that the track “All My Hope,” by Southern Gospel outfit Gold City, has been chosen the #1 song of the year. This award was given to Gold City’s song since it garnered the highest points on the Singing News Top 80 Chart from January to December of this year. Members of the group Daniel Riley and Chris West were given with a plaque by the New Haven Records family to honor this significant achievement.

  • “From the first time we heard this song, we knew we had to include it on the record,” Riley says.
  • Because this song has been used in worship by many congregations, the crowd erupts in applause as soon as we begin singing it.
  • In order to commemorate their legacy while also bringing their narrative to a whole new generation of Southern Gospel listeners, we’re devising plans.” In actuality, Riley and West were given with the plaque by New Haven Records at a one-day strategic retreat for the whole company.

Is ‘All My Hope’ Biblical?

Marc Olivier Jodoin captured this image. Any outstanding witness contains three fundamental components: the old life before knowing Christ, the new life after knowing Christ, and the transformation that occurs after knowing Christ. Personally, I find it interesting to hear people’s testimonies. Everyone has a story to share that is unique to them. It appears that I am not the only one who appreciates them! That is one of the reasons why testimonies are so common in Christian music. “All My Hope,” a song by Crowder (with Tauren Wells), is an example of this.

According to my humble opinion, our testimony would be rendered ineffective if any of these aspects were missing.

As a result, it should be subjected to a more stringent examination. Lyrics may be obtained on the website. New users should be aware that this is a different sort of review site! Before reading this review, take the time to learn more about the Berean Test and its evaluation criteria.

1. What message does the song communicate?

Having been broken, shackled, a slave to sin, and therefore a prodigal, he has been washed clean by the blood of Jesus and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. He is now free of shame and guilt, and all of his sins have been forgiven. His only ray of hope is in the person of Jesus. Score:10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

Everything’s all of it! An reference to Psalm 139:10 is made in the first line. Line 2: This may be a reference to Acts 2:1-4, which states that we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. It’s difficult to figure out what to make of line 3, which begins with the words “down to the river.” My best bet is that this is a reference to water baptism, which is referenced in multiple places in the New Testament (especially John’s baptism, the great commission, and the book of Acts), as well as in the Old Testament.

  • In the event that anyone else has more insightful information, I am happy to listen!
  • It is self-explanatory, and it is supported by the Scriptures in Matthew 11:28-30, Romans 5:1-8, Romans 8:24-39, Romans 15:13, 1 Corinthians 15:54-58, and Philippians 1:3-6.
  • Line 2: Now that our sins have been forgiven, we may turn our attention to being the new man and woman that God intended for us to be (see Ezekiel 11:19, Romans 6:6, 2 Corinthians 3:18, 2 Corinthians 4:16, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:14-16, Colossians 3:10, and Ephesians 4:24).
  • This is because of Christ’s atonement (see Matthew 26:28, Acts 2:38, Acts 5:31, Acts 10:43, Romans 4:7, Romans 5:6-8, Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:14, Colossians 2:13-14, James 5:15, James 5:19-20, 1 John 2:1-2, and 1 John 2:12).
  • Lines 1 and 2: This refers to the enslavement to sin that is described in John 8:34 and Romans 6:6 respectively.
  • See the annotation in Chorus, line 3 for further information.
  • The whole bridge is a reiteration of the topics presented in Verse 2, lines 1-3.

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

There is forgiveness accessible. An unbeliever will undoubtedly have numerous questions concerning the altered life of a prisoner if they do not already know Jesus. It’s likely that the remark “I’m no stranger to the penitentiary” will be taken literally by the audience members. Score:10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

In Jesus, there is a transformation. Score:10/10

Final Comments

Not surprise, Crowder’s hit song hits the nail on the head (no pun intended).

This testimony, which is heavily Scriptural in nature, contains all of the characteristics that make a great witness wonderful, however it is maybe more suited to a 30-second place at church than than mainstream worship. Final Score: 10 out of 10.

Worship Wednesday – All My Hope Is In Jesus – with David Crowder and Tauren Wells

Photograph courtesy of Twitter and The Promise FM God bless you, Father, for you are our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, God has resurrected us to a living hope, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, which has been preserved in heaven for you, who are being guarded through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time, according to his great mercy. You rejoice in this, even though you have been grieved by various trials for a short period of time, if necessary, in order that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even when tested by fire—may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

  • My family and I did not grow up in a religious environment.
  • My mother had been feeling the strain of having to care for four children on her own for some time by that point.
  • Unemployed and unconcerned about others.
  • When our neighbors insisted on inviting us to church, we eventually agreed to their request.
  • A God who adored us.even more than our mother did, and her affection was ferocious.
  • and we simply didn’t see it.
  • A wildish small family with no religious background was welcomed into their home by those kindhearted individuals.

When David Crowder and Tauren Wells sing together, it brings back memories of those early days at that church for me.

We were also baptized jointly in a sawmill pond, which was a special occasion.

Songs that appeared to go on indefinitely, or at the very least until the Holy Spirit took hold of our souls The song “All My Hope Is In Jesus” by Crowder reminds me of the tunes that were popular at the time.

Those songs are full of promise, to put it mildly.

I was driving back home after doing errands earlier this week when certain memories flooded back into my consciousness.memories of a very difficult period in my life.

Those recollections of a troubled period wrapped themselves tightly around me at that moment, much like the bonds of sin I had known in those days, and I felt trapped.

The embarrassment.as well as the deception After believing falsehoods and choosing the world over the One who had chosen me, I had come to a point in my life where I regretted it.

“All of my sins have been forgiven, and I have been cleansed by the blood,” says the believer today.

–1 John 1:7 (New International Version) If you’ll join me in worshiping the God who holds us, who forgives us, and who forgets what separated us from Him, I’d appreciate it.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead gives us “a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you”.

on this day.

I’ve had a burning sensation from above.

And I ain’t the same anymore, having returned as a prodigal.

Thank God for the passing of yesterday.

I’ve had my clothes cleaned by the blood I’m not unfamiliar with the jail system.

The truth is, I’ve been set free and pardoned (and yeah, I have) and I’m not going back; I’ll never be the same again.

All of my misdeeds have been forgiven.

There’s a certain type of thing that may completely destroy a man.

I’ve been broken more than a few times, thank you very much.

As a result, I sing, “All my hope is in Jesus.” Thank God my yesterday is over (it is over, yeah) and all of my sins have been forgivenOh, I’ve been cleansed by the blood of Christ Oh, the blood has cleansed away my sins.

I’ve been held by the SaviourI’ve felt fire from aboveI’ve been down to the riverI’ve been down to the river “I ain’t the same anymore,” says the Prodigal Son. All of my hope is placed in Jesus. Thank God for the passing of yesterday. All of my misdeeds have been forgiven. I’ve Been Scrubbed Clean By The Blood I’m no stranger to the prison system. I’ve worn shackles and chains throughout my life. However, I have been set free and pardoned. I’m not going back, and I’ll never be the same again.

  • All of my hope is placed in Jesus.
  • All of my misdeeds have been forgiven.
  • I’ve been broken more than a couple of times, thank you very much.
  • Come on, perform a song for me.
  • Thank God for the passing of yesterday.
  • I’ve Been Scrubbed Clean By The Blood All of my hope is placed in Jesus.
  • My past is no longer relevant, and all of my sins have been forgiven.

The 22nd of March, 2018 edition of CCM Radio. Today, we’ll be taking a look at Crowder’s song “All My Hope,” which is now at number two on the20theCountdownMagazine. The chorus of today’s hymn is particularly effective since it is centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The verses are weak and a little ambiguous, but they aren’t terrible if you take out the first stanza. This song is provisionally placed in the Approved category because to its heavy emphasis on the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the solution to our sin in the chorus.

Lyric Video

When I was embraced by the Savior, I felt fire from above, and I went down to the river, I realized I wasn’t the same person. A prodigal son has returned. All of my hope is placed in Jesus. Thank God for the passing of yesterday. All of my misdeeds have been forgiven. This blood has cleansed me, and I’m no stranger to the jail system. I’ve been shackled and chained, but I’ve been set free and forgiven, and I have no intention of going back. I’ll never be the same after this. That is one of the reasons why I sing.

Bring him to his knees with a hammer.

Then He took me up and demonstrated to me what it is to be a true gentleman.

Discussion

A “witness” song, in which the vocalist communicates with the audience his or her theology or testimony of God, this song is performed in the style of a gospel song. Whenever possible, such testimony should be centered on Christ as He is presented in His Word. As a result, I am really relieved that this song did not fall into the humble-brag category of truly being “about me” while purporting to be about “what God has done for me.” Lyric 1: The song starts off poorly, with a weak and meaningless verse that appeals to emotional sensations rather than rational thought.

  • I’ve had a burning sensation from above.
  • Our salvation has been provided by the Savior, and God the Holy Spirit has given us trust in Christ via the preaching of the Word of God, washing us clean with water mixed with the Word in Baptism.
  • As a result, in spiritual symbolism, there is an emotional appeal.
  • When they were granted the amazing power of speaking in other languages, the scriptures tell us that they were surrounded by tongues of fire that descended upon them in adoration of God.
  • Let’s start with Genesis.
  • And then there was a sound like a great rushing wind that came from heaven and filled the entire house where they were seated.
  • And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and as the Spirit gave them voice, they started to talk in different tongues as a result.

And as soon as they heard this sound, the crowd gathered, completely baffled since they were hearing them talk in their own language, which was confusing.

People from Mesopotamia to Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the sections of Libya belonging to Cyrene, as well as visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs, may be heard recounting the wonderful acts of God in their respective languages.

These aren’t something that these folks had to envision happening; these are things that actually took place.

They were truly preaching the magnificent deeds of God in plain language, in languages that existed in reality, languages that were included in the scripture, languages that were easily understood.

This sort of thing doesn’t happen anymore, especially not in churches where incorrect theology is being preached openly and explicitly.

Because I am a Lutheran, I would want to assume that this is a reference to Baptism; nevertheless, I feel that it is more likely a reference to the symbolism that creedal baptists perceive baptism to be.

It is spiritual imagery or an appeal to an emotional experience, as is the case throughout the rest of this first verse.

A prodigal son has returned.

During this time, the prodigal son recognized the folly of his ways and repented of his wrongdoing, he was accompanied by his father.

“I am no longer deserving of the title of your son.” 15:21 (Luke 15:21) (ESV).

The chorus of this song is quite effective.

All of my misdeeds have been forgiven.

First and foremost, the epistle of the Apostle Peter comes to mind: 1 Peter 1:3-7 (New International Version) (ESV) God bless you, Father, for you are our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

You rejoice in this, even though you have been grieved by various trials for a short period of time, if necessary, in order that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even when tested by fire—may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

  • Now, Crowder returns to symbolism, pointing us that we have been cleansed by the blood.
  • Look at Chapter 7 for a moment.
  • ” As the angels gathered around the throne, the elders, and the four living beings, they dropped on their knees before the throne and worshiped God, exclaiming “Amen!
  • Amen.” As a result, one of the elders came up to me and said, “Who are these people, clad in white robes, and where have they come from?” ‘Sir, you’re correct,’ I remarked to him.
  • They have washed their garments in the blood of the Lamb, and they have turned them white.
  • Here is what Jesus said about the cup at the Institution of the Lord’s Supper as recounted in Matthew: Let us consider His comments on the cup.
  • There is therefore symbolism in Revelation, as well as the allusion to substance in The Lord’s Supper, which is Christ’s blood as part of the New Covenant, shed for the forgiveness of sins (Revelation 22:18).

Christ washes His Bride (the Church) at Baptism, as we witness in the Apostle Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians.

Paul writes in Ephesians 5:25-27.

Keeping in mind that not everyone who reads this site is a Lutheran, here’s how I’d go about linking “down to the river” and “washed by the Blood.” I’d want to draw attention to Holy Baptism, verse 2.

We have images in our minds of jail, shackles, and chains, and we have images in our minds of being set free from temporal bondage and being forgiven for our transgressions, respectively.

I’ve been restrained by shackles and chains.

That is one of the reasons why I sing.

The truth is that it is both at the same time, sinnersaint and saint.

As saints, we are recognized only by faith in what Christ has already accomplished on our behalf at the cross, not because of anything we have done or might have done.

While we wait for it to happen, we exist in the simul, simultaneously sinnersaints.

Some things just break a guy down to his knees, and there are some things like that.

Come on, perform a song for me.

Our major enemy is not the devil, though he is an outward adversary.

Romans 7:15–25 (NASB) (ESV) Because I am unable to comprehend my own acts.

Now, if I do something I do not want to do, I agree with the law and believe it is right.

Because I am well aware that nothing good resides within me, that is, within my flesh.

Because I do not do the good that I desire, but rather the bad that I do not desire is what I continue to do.

As a result, I have come to believe that when I desire to do what is right, evil is always close at hand.

What a miserable human being I am!

God be praised through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!

Galatians 5:16-17 (ESV)But I urge you to walk in the Spirit, and you will not be tempted to give in to your fleshly cravings.

Additionally, there is one other thing that is absent from the discussion in the third verse, and that is the discipline of our Heavenly Father against our sin, which causes us to be broken and fall apart.

In the book of Hebrews, we hear this clearly stated.

It is possible that you have not yet reached the point when you have bled your blood in the battle against sin.

“My son, do not take the Lord’s punishment lightly, nor should you become weary when you are rebuked by him.

God is treating you as though you were his sons.

If you are left without discipline, in which everyone has taken part, then you are considered illegitimate offspring rather than sons of the father.

Will we not be subject to the Father of spirits and live for a long time to come?

For the time being, all discipline appears to be painful rather than pleasant; yet, those who have been educated by it will subsequently reap the tranquil fruit of righteousness as a result of their efforts.

As a result, this third verse goes off the rails by just portraying a portion of the picture of what causes us to fall apart, for God, our heavenly Father, disciplines us as sons and daughters.

In addition, the third lyric of the song incorrectly externalizes the sin problem as purely external conditions rather than our basic sin issue, which is rooted in our very flesh and blood.

Conclusion

Because the chorus of this song places a strong emphasis on the Gospel, the pale allegorical nature of the lines is obscured, and I’m just placing this song in the Approved category for the time being. Hebrews 13:20-21 is a passage that says (ESV) Then, through the blood of the eternal covenant, may God, the God of peace, who raised up from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great shepherd of the sheep, empower you to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through the intercession of Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.

Amen.
