We are part of a worldwide movement that is reawakening hearts to worship God and exhibit the love and power of God in every place we travel. As a group, we are enthusiastic about seeing campuses and cities transform as well as the transformation of nations. We have a mandate: to raise up, equip, and mobilize people who are coming to fulfill the call of God on their life. We accomplish this via the ministry of conferences, events, worship, campus ministries, curriculums, resources, and, most recently, the establishment of a local congregation.

Youth Group Days

A young man from Redding, California, said “Yes” to the Lord with a dream in his heart to raise a generation to love and serve the Lord by discipling countries. That hope became a reality when Banning Liebscher said “Yes” to the Lord. The inaugural Jesus Culture Conference was held in the summer of 1999 at Bethel Church in Redding, California, under the leadership of Banning Liebscher. It was the brainchild of our youth group. There were around 500 people in attendance, including personnel. God manifested himself in a mighty way.

Kim Walker-Smith, Chris Quilala, and Melissa How, who were the worship leaders in our youth group, would always be the ones leading the worship at these conferences.

The Name “Jesus Culture”

‘Jesus Culture’ is a moniker that came about as a result of a shopping expedition. Banning was going around the mall one day when he came across a hat with the logo ‘Counter Culture’ on the front. He loved the notion, but he didn’t want to develop a counterculture; he just wanted to raise one that was centered on Jesus. As a result, the term ‘Jesus Culture’ came to be used.

Our First Album

It was in 2005 that the worship in these conferences had become so intense that we thought it was time to try and record what was going on. ‘Everything,’ our debut album, was created by us. For the first several days of the conference, we recorded largely covers since we were just trying to get a feel for everything that was going on. On the original CD, we even included footage of young people praying.

Conferences in Other Cities

In 2005, we held our first event outside of Redding, in Atlanta, Georgia, for the first time. We came face to face with God in the midst of 300 fervent Christians. We taught and disseminated the young people in the same way that we had done in Redding, and there were healings on the streets as a result.

The teens and young people were overjoyed and encouraged by the fact that the Lord was using them in this way. In 2006, we proceeded to expand our conference offerings to include locations such as Orange County, Dallas, and other cities.

Our First DVD

In the next year, our Creative Director proposed that we make a DVD, so we borrowed a variety of cameras (including an old PBS broadcast camera) and produced our own DVD. Because we had outgrown our previous location at Bethel, this was our first time using the local convention center.

YouTube Clip Goes Viral

Kim Walker-Smith had recently returned from a year in Charlotte, where she had worked at ‘Morning Star Church,’ and she introduced us to the hymn ‘How He Loves,’ by John Mark McMillan. This is something we recorded for our DVD album ‘We Cry Out’ (2007). Even though Kim didn’t want us to utilize the lengthier speaking portion of the song, we couldn’t stop ourselves from doing so, and we’re glad we did. It has served a large number of people.

Nations

Our first international conference, held in England in 2005, was a great success. In 2006, we traveled to Australia, where we found 85 hungry revivalists assembled in Melbourne’s Federation Square. To date, over 90,000 people have attended events organized by Jesus Culture in over 30 countries around the world. These countries have included: Germany; France; Hungary; Denmark; the Netherlands; Switzerland; Ireland; Brazil; Columbia; New Zealand; and South Africa, and they have attracted more than 30,000.

As a result, in 2008, we made the decision to shift from the local youth group to an independent ministry.
The Lord summoned us to Chicago in 2011 to empower a generation that would bring about revolution in our country and throughout the rest of the globe.
It was an incredible experience.
The continued testimony from these individuals, as well as the hundreds of thousands of people who watched online, affirmed to us that God’s presence and power were released in a remarkable way throughout those days, marking a watershed moment in human history.

Empowering Leaders Globally

Our first international conference, held in England in 2005, was a milestone for us. A group of 85 hungry revivalists assembled in Melbourne, Australia, in 2006, when we visited. To date, over 90,000 people have attended events organized by Jesus Culture in over 30 countries across the world. These countries have included: Germany; France; Hungary; Denmark; the Netherlands; Switzerland; Ireland; Brazil; Colombia; New Zealand; and South Africa. The Lord was giving Banning more time to lead Jesus Culture in the direction that He was instructing us.

Even though it was still under the umbrella of Bethel Church, ‘Jesus Culture’ was run independently of the church’s youth organization.

For our inaugural arena meeting, we were treated to three days of passionate worship, strong preaching, and ministry.

As fourteen thousand people spontaneously worshiped Him for about twenty minutes on the final night, we were filled with wonder.

It was verified to us by the continued testimony of these participants, as well as the hundreds of thousands of others who watched online, that God’s presence and power were released in a tremendous way to commemorate the passing of a generation during those days.

Move to Sacramento

Serving and supporting local churches both in the United States and overseas has always been one of the major foci of our ministry. Jesus Culture was born out of a youth group at Bethel Church, and we have been devoted to the local church in Redding, California for the last 18 years. In recent weeks, we were dispatched from Bethel to Sacramento with the goal of planting a local manifestation of Jesus Culture while also transitioning our church’s physical location. In addition, we are committed to the local church and think that God desires to see cities changed and campuses touched through the local church, and we are putting all we have into making that happen.

In order for cities and countries to be immersed in His presence, know the truth of the Gospel, and personally meet Him, God is resurrecting this generation in order for them to do just that.

What is Jesus Culture? Is Jesus Culture biblical?

Answer As a young organization in 1999, Jesus Culture grew into a movement that has gained widespread international recognition. Specifically targeted at young people, the music and conferences of Jesus Culture strive to bring them “to feel the passionate love of God” and send them back into their communities “totally inflamed and transformed” (from the official website). The ministry’s emphasis is on revival, worship, the power of God, and the “visible presence” of Christ in the world. It is based in the United Kingdom.

Bethel Church is a Charismatic church led by Pastor Bill Johnson.
One of the reasons for the large number of religious faiths is that human beings are all different and that one size does not fit all.
Youth for Christ was active in the 1940s; the Jesus People were active in the 1970s; and since 1997, we have observed the 268 Generation, also known as the Passion Movement, in action.
The Bethel Church, which is the cradle of Jesus Culture, preaches that one is saved by grace through faith.
According to Bethel, the “apostles’ teaching” found in Acts 2:42 does not necessarily refer to the teachings of Peter, James, and John, as some believe.
Obviously, this idea can lead to a reduction of the importance of Scripture and the acceptance of erroneous teaching.
There is a greater focus on having an undefined “personal contact with the love of God” than there is on repentance and faith in God.
Whenever emotional experience takes precedence over the explicit teaching of the Bible, we open the door to the spread of potentially destructive ideologies in our society.
In his teachings, Johnson asserts that Christians who are sick have “invited” the illness to enter their life, and that those who are not cured should “realize it’s not God’s fault” and pray for a “higher anointing” (from the official Jesus Culture website).
We give thanks to the Lord for anybody who, through their efforts, leads someone to trust in Christ.

To “prove all things; hold fast that which is good,” as the Bible instructs us in 1 Thessalonians 5:21. As Christians, we should scrutinize every doctrine and behavior, comparing them to the written Word of God wherever possible.

Musically driven Jesus Culture grows from California roots into global faith community

After listening to the song “Faithful Till The End,” three UCLA students, one of whom is recovering from meth addiction, glowed and moved together on Sunday. They were in attendance at one of three services held at Folsom High School by Jesus Culture, a musically oriented organization that originated in Redding and has now spread around the world. About 500 people in folding chairs and dozens more on their feet attended each service, nodding their heads in affirmation of Pastor Banning Liebscher’s blend of gospel and personal anecdotes preaching that people are not defined by their mistakes or dysfunctional families but by their decision to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and “act Christlike.” Liebscher came up with the name “Jesus Culture” after seeing a hat with the slogan “Counter Culture” in a mall and thinking it was a good fit.

The inaugural Jesus Culture Conference was organized by Banning’s youth group at Bethel Church in Redding, California, in 1999.
As of Sunday, the video for “How He Loves Us” had had approximately 18 million views on YouTube.
Despite the fact that we have traditionally been recognized as a youth ministry, the church has grown to include people of all ages, with an average age of 37.
Amanda Key, the event’s host, claimed she and her husband relocated from Houston to Sacramento solely for the purpose of joining the Sacramento church and being closer to the magic.
“I’ve seen broken bones being healed, stunted legs growing out, and back pain being relieved,” Key added.

Artist Biography

James Christopher Monger is the author of this piece. Jesus Culture, based in California, is a worldwide Christian revivalist youth outreach organization that leverages the power of song to deliver its message to young people throughout the world. TheJesus Culture Band, led by youth worship leader and pastorKim Walker-Smith, began releasing live praise and worship albums nearly every year in 2006, with the release of Everything. The band’s first album was released through the ministry’s own record label, Jesus Culture Music, and the band’s second album was released through the ministry’s own record label, Jesus Culture Music.

The music of Jesus Culture, which originated at Bethel Church in Redding, California, is well-known across the world for its lyrical force and passionate expression of faith. The group is known for being prolific composers, having recorded more than 30 albums as a collective and as separate artists, and earned a Grammy nomination for their 2018 album, Living with Fire, among other accolades.

Kim speaks up about her childhood in her first book, Brave Surrender, and how Jesus helped her discover genuine healing and release from the trauma of her past.
“My childhood was really chaotic most of the time,” Kim shared with Hope 103.2 during an interview.

Even after Kim had reached her adolescent years, it wasn’t until Kim’s third stepfather, George, came into the picture that Kim began to soften and the family’s instability began to ease.

The Power of Vulnerability

Kim is not used to discussing her background in such detail, but she knew it was time when she began writing this book. “Until this book, I’d never disclosed my entire life story publicly,” Kim said. “However, I have found that when I am completely open and authentic in worship, I am extending an invitation to everyone around me to likewise step into that same vulnerability.” And I believe that in order for us to truly be free, in order for us to truly experience God, in order for our lives to truly be transformed, we must be willing to be vulnerable.” Kim is now happily married and the mother of three children of her own, and the honesty of Brave Surrender provides great hope to others who have experienced catastrophic events in their lives.

The story of Kim, who has had to rebuild her confidence in men after being assaulted, is told in Brave Surrender, which emphasizes the need of combining spiritual rehabilitation with solid mental health counseling.

Jesus Culture Heresy False Teaching

Christa Black Gifford delivered a speech at the Jesus Culture La 2014 Conference. There were several factors cited that may cause caution, including the following: Bill Johnson is considered by Gifford to be her preacher. Bill Johnson is a charlatan and a fraud. Christa has a connection to William P Young, the author of the novel The Shack. The Shack features principles from the New Age movement. Because women were created in the image of God, God has a feminine aspect as well. “God has a feminine side, too!” The Trinity was completely exposed: “they were nude, they are naked, they were completely exposed in front of each other.” “Let us have children, let us give birth to life,” the Trinity said.

As a result, we have been created in the image of love.” Christa Black Gifford said she had a vision of Jesus in which she was separated from him by a wall of black smoke.

Because she had guarded her heart from him, Jesus revealed to her why she had been punished.

T.D. Jakes has said Trinitarians as well as Oneness Pentecostals consider him a heretic. That is because for years T.D. Jakes has denied the Trinity and attempted to keep both camps from labeling him as a heretic by using the same terminology as them but with different definitions.

The Trinity: There is one God who exists in three eternal, simultaneous persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is defined as follows: All three are manifestations of the same God, coeternal, coequal, and so on, but there is only one God, not three, and there is no one person who has assumed three modes or manifestations. TD Jakes’ description of God is as follows: “There is one God, the creator of all things, infinitely flawless, and eternally existing in three manifestations: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” (source) It is the use of the term manifestation in Jakes’ definition that causes confusion.

The Father is not Jesus, and Jesus is not the Father, nor is the Holy Spirit the Father.
TD Jakes has stated that Christianity drawing from Eastern Mysticism is not an issue for him (source).
Jakes’ teachings are a fusion of the Word of Faith gospel and the Prosperity gospel, which he calls the Word of Faith gospel.

When someone chooses not to accept the Bible as their source of authority, they open the door to whatever form of teaching that they choose.
The only time gold dust is referenced in the Bible is in Exodus 32:15-20, when it is neither a miracle nor a blessing: “With his back to the mountain, Moses descended on his knees, holding in his hand the two tablets of the Testimony.
16 The tablets, on the other hand, were God’s creation, and the writing on them was God’s writing etched on the tablets.
The tablets were broken at the foot of the mountain as a result of Moses’ angry temper.

In a sermon delivered on January 20, 1994, a Pentecostal pastor named Randy Clark described how he would become “drunk” in the Spirit and burst out laughing uncontrollably while in the presence of God.

Bethel Church is known for manifestations such as gold dust, glory clouds and feathers

As a movement, Jesus Culture is more than simply a successful Christian band; it is also a Christian band that appeals to the younger generation of Christians. Jesus Culture began as a youth group at Bill Johnson’s church, Bethel, in Redding, California, and has grown into an international movement. The two of them are now traveling the world, encouraging Christians to seek experiences with God and His love, as well as educating them to operate in the supernatural realm, in order to raise up a new generation of revivalists.

In response to accounts of individuals levitating, being slaughtered in the spirit world, aura reading, and other weird activities, Wimber severed his ties with Calvary Chapel, according to Chuck Smith.

Should Your Church Sing Jesus Culture & Bethel Music? — For the Gospel

One of the most often asked questions I receive concerns Jesus Culture and Bethel Music. People with inquisitive minds have inquired, “What do you think about listening to the music or merely utilizing songs that are sound?” It’s a reasonable issue that ought to be answered in some way. Nonetheless, each individual must decide how they will continue. The next five arguments address the subject from a variety of different perspectives in order to pique your interest. Let’s start with the obvious theological reasons, and then we’ll go on to some practical consequences that might have an impact on your church and ministry, whether directly or indirectly.

1: Their movementleaders preach a heretical version of Christ

4: You could be limiting the creativity and talent of your church’s own band

If we stopped utilizing Jesus and Bethel Music and had to come up with our own biblically reliable music, how many songs would be composed in their place? When faced with the task of creating great-sounding music that is not on the lowered path of apostasy, how much more would we be driven to further levels of excellence? What next-generation global changers might emerge to be used by God in the music business if we encouraged them to compose homegrown songs in our churches and cultivated their worth in the community?

5: People need clarity on this issue more than ever before

Many people would automatically label our discussion of whether or not to sing Jesus Culture or Bethel music as legalism. But this is not the case. However, our Baptist colleagues may have some good ideas that the church might “borrow.” In the same way that most Baptists refrain from drinking totally in order to prevent even the appearance of evil, a church may consider refraining from singing music by heretical groups in accordance with the same guiding principle. Due to the fact that it has become such a stumbling point for many nowadays – much like alcohol – it may be prudent to use wisdom and caution in this matter.

Is it wrong to have a drink of wine every now and then?

However, it simply does not make sense to put one’s reputation at risk by being legalistic in an attempt to avoid being perceived as such.

If we just draw a strong line and move on from this situation, it will be over.

If anything, dealing with the issue of music is straightforward if one maintains a biblical perspective. Why would anyone want to be associated with anything that is not scriptural or is in question? Some New Testament principles that can be applied to this contentious subject are as follows:

Avoid becoming a stumbling obstacle to others (Rom. 14:13-23)
Avoid even the appearance of wickedness (1 Thess. 5:22)
And avoid being a stumbling block to yourself. The Bible says that dangerous persons should be silenced rather than promoted (Titus 3:11). False instructors should be identified and punished, not excused (Rom. 16:17-18)
Leaders have a responsibility to diligently protect their theology and personal life (1 Timothy 4:16).

While you may not agree with all of the arguments I’ve made here, I hope I’ve at the very least given you some food for thought as you chart your own course both at your church (whether you’re in leadership or not) and in your own life.

Take a Stand and Make a Statement! It appears that a new generation of revivalists is emerging in response to the cry of God’s heart. They are calling towns and countries back to the Lord, and they are pushing cultures to be transformed by the power and love of God. These revivalists within the Jesus Culture are a powerful force that must be taken into consideration. You shouldn’t anticipate them to fade into the background or vanish any time in the near future. They have only recently begun to appear.

They pay homage to those who came before them.
