The Lineage of David

For the purpose of answering the main question, let us first go over some of the prophecies that pointed to Jesus as the Messiah who would come from the line of David. “In those days and at that time, I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land”(Jeremiah 33:15). A stem will emerge from the stump of Jesse, and a branch will yield fruit from the root of his tree (Isaiah 11:1). As the Lord said, “the days are drawing near in which I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely, doing what is just and right throughout the land.” The kingdom of Judah will be saved, and the land of Israel will be secure throughout his reign.

What Did Jesus Think About the Messiah Being the Son of David?

It is clear from Jesus’ genealogy in Matthew 1:1-16 and Luke 3:23-38 that Jesus was the “Son of David.” In reality, the book of Matthew opens with the words, “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham”: “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.” (1:1, emphasis added.) The New Testament makes it very obvious that this Son of David is “the Christ” or “the Messiah,” as the phrase is commonly translated.

When the Samaritan woman at the well declared to Jesus, “‘I know that Messiah is coming,'” Jesus said, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ).
“It is I who speak to you,’ Jesus responded to her.
I am,” Jesus stated emphatically.

David says in the psalm, according to the text of Mark (12:36): “David himself, prompted by the Holy Spirit, said.” As a result, Jesus recites the following section of the psalm, which begins, “The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right side, till I bring thine foes under thy feet.” After that, Jesus cites the following scripture to establish his point: “David himself addresses him as ‘Lord,’ so how can he be his son?” It should be noted that David refers to the Messiah as “my Lord” rather than as “my son.” As a result, the Messiah cannot be a descendant of David.

When it comes to Christ becoming the Messiah, Jesus uses Psalm 110 as his proof text to reject the scribes’ belief that the Messiah should be a son or descendant of David (p.
added).
Consequently, those Bible verses that identify Jesus as the “Son of David” (Matthew 1:1-16; Luke 3:23-38) are seen to be inaccurate.
When Jesus questioned the Pharisees, “How is Hethen hisSon,” since David calls Him “Lord,” He was not disputing His qualifications as the Messiah, nor was He refuting the fact that the Messiah would be a “Son of David.” He was just expressing His confusion about the nature of the Messiah.
That was something Jesus was not disputing.
(Matthew 16:13, New American Standard Bible.) “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” Peter confessed to Jesus, who responded, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).
Answer: He was a divinity who took on the form of a human being.
They were under the impression that he would be a simple man.
In the event that he is the Christ, he will be recognized as David’s Lord (McGarvey, 1875, p.
194).
In an interesting twist, the author of Hebrews made reference to Psalm 110:1 in order to impress upon his readers the supremacy of Jesus over the heavenly kingdom (1:13).

Jesus did not acknowledge that He was the “Son of David” or that He was “the Messiah.” He was, in fact, both of these things.

Son of David: What the Genealogy of Jesus Tells Us

For the vast majority of Bible readers, reading a genealogy is about as fascinating as reading a telephone book in the morning. The whole New Testament, however, begins with the first chapter of Saint Matthew’s Gospel, which reads as follows: The genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David and the son of Abraham, as recorded in the book of Genesis. (Matt 1:1–3). Abraham and Isaac were the parents of Isaac, and Jacob was the father of Jacob, who in turn was the father of Judah and his brothers, who in turn was the father of Perez and Zerah.

Count me in as one of those readers who, like me, skipped over the genealogy and started over in chapter 2 of this Gospel when they first started reading it.

“Let’s face it: other people’s family trees are about as intriguing as other people’s Christmas films,” as one New Testament expert put it.

Since the time of Abraham, it would have included all of their aspirations and expectations about what God had promised to accomplish in their lives and what God had promised to do in their lives.

Even if there had been a CNN network in first-century Palestine, this small genealogy would have been the most talked-about topic on the network’s “Headline News.” Now, let us look at Matthew’s genealogy from a different perspective—from the perspective of first-century Jews who would have seen their whole past, future, and very purpose for being summarized in these few words.

Despite the fact that many persons are listed in this genealogy, David is the one who sticks out the most.

Another point of connection between David and Jesus is that they are the only two people who are granted titles in the Bible.

According to scholars, there is also Davidic imagery in verse 17, in which Matthew draws attention to the number of generations in the genealogy from Abraham to Jesus: the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, the generations from David to the deportation to Babylon were fourteen generations, and the generations from the deportation to Babylon to the birth of Jesus were fourteen generations (Matt 1:17).

Throughout Matthew’s gospel, he divides the generations into three groups of fourteen people each.
Allow me to explain.
They are used to represent not just letters, but also numerical values.
Because the genealogy is structured around three sets of fourteen generations rather than one, Matthew’s genealogy discreetly reveals Jesus to be the “thrice-Davidic Son of David” through the very form of the genealogy itself.
What is the point of all this attention on David?
In the book of 2 Samuel, God promised David and his successors an eternal dynasty, saying, “our house and your kingdom shall be established for ever before me; your throne shall be set for ever” (2 Sam 7:16).
In Psalm 2:8 and 72:8–11, 17 and 110:6, the Davidic monarch is prophesied to rule over all the globe, nations will bow down before him, and all peoples will experience blessing in his presence.
Jesus is referred to be a “son of David” in the preface to the genealogy, which follows.

Grounds for identifying Jesus Christ as the Son of David

His ancestors were human. 1:3 (Romans 1:3) In addition, see Mt 1:15. His birthplace was Bethlehem. Mic 5:2; Jn 7:42 are examples of biblical quotations. His healing ministry is one of the most important aspects of his life. Mt 12:22-23 (Matthew 12:22-23). Jesus Christ is more than a merely human king descended from David
