Andraé Edward Crouch was born on July 1, 1942, in San Francisco, and reared in Los Angeles, California. He was the son of Benjamin and Catherine Crouch, who worked as bivocational pastors. He has stated that he was given the gift of music as a boy when his father was summoned to serve as a guest speaker and pastoral candidate at a tiny rural church that lacked musical resources. He began playing for them when he was eleven years old. He composed his first gospel song when he was 14 years old, and in 1960, he created his first band, the COGICS.

He penned his first well-known novel.

Sandra, along with her brother, is a co-pastor of the Christ Memorial Church in Chicago. In 1985, she was awarded a Grammy for “Best Soul Gospel Performance, Female” for her work. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, she participated in a number of Motown recording sessions, where she played the tambourine. She sang the lead vocals on the gospel mega-hit “God Is Trying To Tell You Something,” written by Quincy Jones and co-authored with her brother Andraé Crouch and Bill Maxwell, and written by Quincy Jones.

Because of Andrae’s terrible stuttering, Sandra would frequently address the public on his behalf when he was younger.

Andraé Crouch kindled ‘new dimension’ of worship

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP) — Andraé Crouch, a legendary gospel songwriter and singer, has died at the age of 72, according to his family. In addition to his well-known songs, Crouch also wrote a number of gospel songs that have become standards and are included in the hymnals of both African American and Anglo churches. Crouch’s songs include “My Tribute,” “The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power,” “Soon and Very Soon,” “Bless the Lord,” and “Through It All.” “Jesus Movement,” which took place in the 1960s and 1970s and resulted in the growth in popularity of modern Christian and gospel music, had a key influence on his life and career.

Crouch’s voice became so closely associated with gospel music that if a mainstream musician or movie studio need a gospel song, they turned to him first for assistance.

Crouch’s work can also be heard on the soundtracks of films such as “The Lion King” and “The Color Purple,” both of which received Academy Award nominations for his writing, arranging and directing.

Crouch was able to create a unique melody and a sincere lyric while unapologetically declaring the Gospel in his songs – man’s sin; God’s love and faithfulness; Jesus’ death, resurrection, and approaching return — in a straightforward and unapologetic manner.

Earlier this week, Leo Day, dean of the school of music at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a gospel artist himself, wrote in an email to Baptist Press that he had used the Crouch song “Take Me Back” in a lecture to encourage students to remember their own personal testimony in order to make worship more meaningful.

Crouch began playing the piano and creating songs at a young age, and while still in high school, he formed his first music group, which became a success.

In addition, he served as senior pastor of the church that his parents had worked to establish in the 1990s.

After suffering complications from a heart attack, he passed away on Thursday, January 8, at Northridge Hospital Medical Center in the Los Angeles area.

“It’s difficult to envision the world without Andraé Crouch,” said Harland, who oversees the music sector of LifeWay Christian Resources, in comments related to Baptist Press.

Andraé collaborated with one of our authors, Tommy Walker, on a song named ‘Someday,’ which was released last summer.

“And the tears are tears of joy,” Harland expressed his happiness.

Andrae Crouch, Grammy-winning gospel singer and pioneer, dies at 72

In addition to being a Grammy-winning gospel singer and songwriter who began his career at the age of 14, Andrae Crouch also served as a pastor at the church his father founded in the San Fernando Valley. He died on Thursday at the age of 42. He was 72 years old. Crouch, a Pacoima resident with a history of diabetes and cancer, died Saturday after having a heart attack at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, according to his publicist, Brian Mayes. Crouch was a member of the Pacoima Police Department.

Andrae Crouch is a fictional character created by author Andrae Crouch. It was on this day in 1942 that Andraé Crouch was born. He was a Black gospel singer, composer, arranger, recording artist, record producer, and preacher who was well known for his work in the church. Andraé Edward Crouch was born in San Francisco, California, to Benjamin Crouch and Catherine (nee Hodnett) Crouch. He and his twin sister, Sandra, were the offspring of Benjamin and Catherine (nee Hodnett) Crouch. Crouch’s parents owned and operated Crouch Cleaners, a dry-cleaning business that also included a restaurant, a street ministry, a hospital ministry, and a jail ministry in Los Angeles, California, when he was a child.

Crouch is also recognized for transforming the sound of urban Gospel music, which was previously unheard of.

His impact has spanned a wide range of artistic disciplines.

When it came to solos on his projects, Crouch had a flair for bringing forth distinctive voices, such as El Debarge on “The Lord is my Light” and Táta Vega on “Oh it is Jesus.” He has collaborated with Bill Maxwell on projects for artists such as The Winans, Danniebelle Hall, and Kristle Murden.

Crouch was arrested in Los Angeles on November 12, 1982, for possession of cocaine after he was pulled over for erratic driving.

The police department decided not to seek charges.

Background vocals were provided by the Andraé Crouch Choir on three of Michael Jackson’s singles from 1987: “Man in the Mirror,” “Keep the Faith,” and “Will You Be There.” In Los Angeles, the song “Soon and Very Soon” was performed at the public memorial ceremony for Jackson, which took place at the Staples Center.

Since then, he has served as Senior Pastor at Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ in Pacoima, California, the church that his parents started.

He appeared in the Warren Chaney docudrama America: A Call to Greatness, which was released in 1995.
