Jennifer Young Jennifer began performing at the young age of three blasting tunes of her childhood idols, Barbara Streisand and Olivia Newton John. Her passion for music evolved from sharing homespun melodies on her singing machine to her debut performance as Annie in her hometown theater at the age of eleven. That same summer, Jennifer was asked to perform a rendition of “We are the World” in Sweden through Children’s International Summer Villages. She continued developing her musical passion by performing in high school plays and attending summer workshops including the esteemed Tampa Bay Musical Theater Project where she studied with some of the “greats:” Seth Riggs (vocal coach to the late Michael Jackson) and theater stars, Anne Reinking and Tommy Tune. During high school, a series of life-altering adolescent challenges, including her involvement with Young Life and decision to commit her life to Christ, would give Jennifer a new song to sing and a powerful God honoring testimony. Following her senior year, Jennifer was awarded a music scholarship to Baylor University where she studied Vocal Performance and English. Upon graduation, Jennifer spent several years in the corporate world but then decided to follow her heart and mission to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through music. Jennifer served hundreds of churches in a concert setting spanning five continents. She took her message to China and Russia alongside Buckner Orphan Care International as she wrote the theme song for their international shoe drive. She also completed her first album appropriately entitled, “The Word through Music.” At the height of her musical career, Jennifer received devastating news. She would have to commit to three months of vocal rest due to overuse of her voice. This period of silence altered the momentum of the ministry and her soul. During this same season, Jennifer experienced a miscarriage and the death of her spiritual mentor. As a result, the Lord firmly redirected Jennifer to the reasons he entrusted her with the gift of singing as He shifted what had become a “performance driven heart” to a desire for spirit led worship. With a more centered outlook, Jennifer was asked to help create the vision and lead worship for the contemporary service at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. God then called Jennifer and her husband Jason to Atlanta Georgia with a job transfer. Jennifer experienced yet another musical growth season at North Point Community church (under the direction of Andy Stanley), as she discovered the benefits of shining for God from not only singing center stage, but also appreciating the skills and heart of those in support of the lead vocalist as a background singer. The grander lesson for Jennifer was recognizing that all worshippers play a vital role in the choir for God. Having moved back to Texas in 2009, Jennifer has been able to utilize her talents and skills in the nucleus of the Austin community. In addition to humbly serving at Austin Ridge Bible Church through their praise team and writing for their women’s blog (www.embraceaustin.com), Jennifer enjoys being an encouraging neighbor and friend, Co-Coordinating her local MOPS group and volunteering in her son’s first grade class. She also appreciates time with her precious children, Jackson and Julia, and her “hunk” of a husband, Jason, who remind her daily to smile and not get too stressed out about life. As of late, Jennifer’s ministry transitioned into a partnership with her sister, Stephanie, and the two have grown musically together through their Los Angeles based music production company called Eagle Ear Entertainment (www.eagleear.com). The duo collectively finds, develops, and inspires rising talent in the mainstream music scene. Of course, Jennifer doesn’t lose sight of her true calling as she continues to lead worship and speak for women’s retreats across the country and is praying about writing her first book. Jennifer boldly claims her life verse to empower others in the faith: |
