LOOKING BACK TO MOVE FORWARD
God allows each one of us to live a unique story. Isn’t that amazing? Each of us has a story like no other. Your story is your story. What is your story? What difference does it make today for you to reflect on the storyline of your life so far? How can insights about your story so far help shape your future?
In this session, you will begin to reflect on your unique storyline, and take a God’s eye view of your story. You will be given tools to organize your narrative lifeline, and tools to go deeper with it. We will use the tools on the lifelines of the Patriarch Joseph (and/or the Apostle Paul) to illustrate how these tools shed light on the life God has for you.
Outlining your story helps to organize it and gain insights from it. But when the story includes secrets that have never been told, or is hidden in emotionally-charged, disconnected flashes of memory that are hard to put into words, this contributes to blindspots. Blindspots influence how you act now, without you actually being aware of them. Participants will be guided through a biblical version of the Johari Window Exercise, to identify how secrets and blindspots can be impacting their life and relationships now.
Biblical truths that will be affirmed through the teaching and exercises:
God never wastes anything. He can use all things he permits to happen to us, for his glory and our good. (Gen. 45:4-5; Romans 8:28)
God knows everything, so there is no need to fear secrets with him; He is with us, even in our darkest moments. (Psalm 139)
God uses others to help us see our blindspots; we need others to grow into the people he wants us to be (Hebrews 3:12-13; John 13:34)
