Purpose University: Crazy Truth of Who You Are

thought-catalog-635846-unsplash (2).jpg

Each of us is on a journey through this broken and imperfect world. Things happen, needs go unmet and we quickly learn how to adapt and change to meet the needs and challenges, or we learn to hide ourselves, so that we won’t get hurt. Then one day, we wake up and realize we don't really know who we are. It’s as if we lost our true selves, somewhere on the journey.

What if we could re-discover who we truly are based on our Creator’s perspective and learn to walk confidently in His truth? What if we truly believed what God says about us instead of what others or even ourselves say?

This is a six-week course, where we will walk through Greater Ground's ebook, The Crazy Truth of Who You Are. Our face to face class will meet in the Kyle area. Our online course will have weekly, live video calls. Our video calls will be an opportunity to ask questions, process and share insights from the week’s lesson. We’ve learned true and lasting change comes by being part of a real and authentic community, where we can be open, listen, learn, have fun and speak life to each other.

Taught by Lisa McClanahan, Greater Grounds

LOOKING BACK TO MOVE FORWARD

God allows each one of us to live a unique story. Isn’t that amazing?  Each of us has a story like no other. Your story is your story. What is your story? What difference does it make today for you to reflect on the storyline of your life so far? How can insights about your story so far help shape your future?

In this session, you will begin to reflect on your unique storyline, and take a God’s eye view of your story. You will be given tools to organize your narrative lifeline, and tools to go deeper with it.  We will use the tools on the lifelines of the Patriarch Joseph (and/or the Apostle Paul)  to illustrate how these tools shed light on the life God has for you.

Outlining your story helps to organize it and gain insights from it.  But when the story includes secrets that have never been told, or  is hidden in emotionally-charged, disconnected flashes of memory that are hard to put into words, this contributes to blindspots. Blindspots influence how you act now, without  you actually being aware of them. Participants will be guided through a biblical version of the Johari Window Exercise, to identify how secrets and blindspots can be impacting their life and relationships now.

Biblical truths that will be affirmed through the teaching and exercises:

  • God never wastes anything. He can use all things he permits to happen to us, for his glory and our good. (Gen. 45:4-5; Romans 8:28)

  • God knows everything, so there is no need to fear secrets with him; He is with us, even in our darkest moments. (Psalm 139)

  • God uses others to help us see our blindspots; we need others to grow into the people he wants us to be (Hebrews 3:12-13; John 13:34)

Melanie loves learning – especially about Jesus and how He sees things.  She’s thankful that God is faithful to grow her through the different seasons of being a wife, mom, friend and volunteer. In between homeschooling and mentoring engaged and married couples alongside her husband, Melanie loves to speak the truth that nothing can disqualify Christ followers from the fullness of God’s love and encourage them to diligently live out their unique purpose in His Kingdom.  She appreciates a good pun, wearing flip flops, eating tacos and dreams of sewing more.  Melanie and her family recently moved to Dallas and are embracing the adventure of discovering God’s purpose for them in their new home.

From Come Away 2017:

"I love that I feel I made so many new friends who actually get me and I can talk to."

"God spoke so powerfully to me personally and through the conversations. The retreat flow was well paced and the freedom to do what we needed was a breath of fresh air."

"It was so beneficial to my walk with God. I want all my friends to experience the freedom that comes with reconciliation."

"When we come together to worship Him, we are changed. This was an extended time of doing just that...praising and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ, praying and seeking His face, peering into His Word, and sweet fellowship/communion with sisters in Christ. The guided prayer times were right on, and gave a forum for the Lord to speak to me personally and to get a Fire for His good purpose in my life."

BRAVE to Lead Pre-Conference

When God Chooses a Woman First by Dr. Laura Savage-Rains  This session will give you four keys to confident leadership gleaned from the stories of biblical women who were the first to experience or express God’s most important messages.

Breaking the Leadership Mold:  Embracing Your God-Given Design to Accomplish Your Purpose  by Lisa McClanahan    Lisa will unveil what leadership REALLY is, and challenge you to fulfill your God-given purpose as He specifically designed you.

Leading Scared:  A Biblical Model for Hesitant Leaders by Lynn Cherry   We are not always eager to lead and sometimes the things God asks us to do are so far out of our comfort zone. In this session we'll look at the life of one rather reluctant leader and uncover two things that hold us back and two things that help us move forward with confidence.

Leading the BabyloniansHow to Lead as a Christian Woman in a Secular Environment  by Denise Pierce  This session will help you think through:

  • Whether it’s ever appropriate to talk about your faith in formal settings with your employees/team members
  • Whether it’s appropriate to invite your employees/team members to faith-based activities
  • How to share the good news of the gospel in that community (or not)
  • Whether it’s appropriate to participate in workplace bible studies or other faith-based activities such as communal prayer
  • Whether to pray for your employees/team members and, if so, whether you tell them you are praying for them
  • Whether you need to “say” Jesus in order to “show” Jesus

Panel  ~  Ask your questions during the panel discussion which includes the BRAVE keynote speaker, Nicole Eunice.
